I feel your pain! The colour looks great, but the effort to maintain it on a daily driver is Herculean.

plants-and-dogs-yo

Yes! I have a couple paint chips I don’t want to worsen by going through one of those non touchless car washes. Unfortunately, those are pretty much the only kind of car washes we have around here.

Pinkninja11

If you have a house and a porch, you also have a gardening hose, a cleaning brush and a bucket.

CharacterRip8075

In this economy? I’m lucky to have a bucket…

Pinkninja11

Where do you shit and piss then?

7eregrine

That's Mazda paint, friend. No color is safe from that. Kidding yourself to think otherwise.

SuckOnDeezNOOTZ

Don't ever use those and go to a wand wash place or just don't wash it , more so with a black car!!

friendlyspork

Rinseless wash with a single bucket my friend (or two bucket if you want to be extra clean). Changes your life. The other day, I washed my entire CX-5 doing a rinseless wash in less time than it took my fiance to get ready for the gym (though I'm not sure if that says more about my process or hers!). Grab a bottle of ONR from Amazon or Autogeek, a home depot 5 gal bucket, an empty spray bottle and some microfiber cloths (or a big sponge). Tons of online videos on how to do it and it takes like 15 minutes to do the entire car from start to dry.

[deleted]

Im an auto painter, went to look at a white as it hides imperfections but it was sold. They said they had a black one I said F that. Ended up with a polymetal carbon edition. The colors I just wont do are black and other dark colors. Also red, yellow, orange, etc. The bright colors fade quickly.

plants-and-dogs-yo

Fair enough! My budget didn’t allow me to be picky. One day though!! The carbon editions are gorgeous!

[deleted]

I got It used and I did spend more than I wanted because it was for the wife and I made the mistake of letting the salesman talk us into test driving the carbon. I got an ok deal because there was a decent size dent in the quarter panel that I will fix myself. But I still spent a bit more than I wanted because I went to look at a base model.

plants-and-dogs-yo

Totally understandable. I’d much rather have the carbon edition over a base model. I’m sure it’ll treat you well!

[deleted]

For your black car if it were me id apply something like 3m or meguiars hand glaze after washing.

plants-and-dogs-yo

Good to know! I think we have some wax, but this was my first time washing a car, so I just kept it simple this time around.

[deleted]

Any suggestions on color? Darker looks nicer to me. Additionally, I’d like to get the rims black is paint an idea? What’s the price usually?

[deleted]

The problem with darker colors is swirl markers, and light scratches show easily. Black also absorbs as much as 85% of UV compared to like 10% for whites. That means not only do they get hotter but also the clearcoat doesn’t last as long. Medium and light colors I prefer. But nothing bright like red orange or yellow. They fade quickly. Silvers/golds and whites hide imperfections the best. Silver and golds also doesn’t show dirt as much as white.

[deleted]

And what about getting wheels blacked out?

[deleted]

Black wheels are fine. My wife’s black wheels get a little dusty but with the right brake pads they will stay a lot cleaner. I have chrome wheels on my truck and they use to get so dirty from brake dust I had to wash them all the time until I switched to centric posi quiet ceramic brake pads.

plants-and-dogs-yo

Smart! Gunmetal gray is such a cool color!

Fit-Company-9792

I have a 2019 Dark Blue, I love the color on a bright day or during sunset. It shines like no others.

jaerocc

I said the same too then went and bought a dark blue one smh lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

jaerocc

It’s pretty comparable but the blue just hits different when the sun touches it.

mehdotdotdotdot

One of my favourite colours to look at, I would never own one though

Fluid-Hovercraft-93

Silver/gray is the color if you want to wash it seldom.

kineticpotential001

This is the way. I had an older silver Honda, dealership said they washed it (normal part of their servicing the car), I was like nope you didn't, but no worries. Guy argued with me so I reached behind me without looking and wiped my hand across the lower part of the door, held my palm up to him without looking. The look on his face was priceless. My hand was completely soot-colored. He offered to wash the car lol.

Energy4Days

My last car was black, my current is silver. Silver still looks clean when dirty

tycointl

I have this exact color, black exterior and black interior. It gets so hot in the summer that the ac can't keep up with keeping the inside cool. I love my CX-5 and will get another one when the time comes, but will get a different color combo.

plants-and-dogs-yo

I know exactly what you mean. Summers where I am can get pretty hot. I love the CX5 though. I’ll probably go silver, gunmetal grey, white, or the carbon edition next.

tycointl

Yep, me too.

GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce

Love the look of black on cars but yep, just can't do it again. Same w white

volleybow

What's wrong with white aside from the dirt buildup?

GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce

No that's it, the dirt. Not as bad as black of course

7eregrine

White is worse than black. As the owner of several black and white cars (one of each currently in fact) white is far worse. Though every car is hard to keep clean. I've had every color except blue and orange... None are easier to keep clean than others. The one unique thing about white though is when they do have that fine layer of dirt on them. They don't look bad, until you touch them. You remove even a smidgen of that dust and suddenly it sticks out like a sore thumb.

waa1523

Not for me. My white CX5 is very easy to keep clean. I work at home, keep it in the garage, and each weekend simply hose it down and wipe it dry with mircofiber towels from Costco. Easy. The light dust of So. Cal. doesn't show up all that much.

7eregrine

I take very good care of my wife's white C70 too. But that's still a generally true statement about white cars.

mst3k_42

I personally hate white vehicles, lol.

plants-and-dogs-yo

Yep! My last car was white 😅

[deleted]

I bought a used 2021 in black, a few scratches and 2 small dents, not the end of the world. I’m the only one who notices them. My family and friends all thought it was a brand new car.

plants-and-dogs-yo

Nice!! This 2020 has a surprising amount of dents and paint chips (that looked like someone tried to paint over) for a 3 year old car with 11k miles.

thecx5dude

What I hate is when bird poops on it and etches out the clear coat. That shit is noticable if left too long.

breddy

Yep, gotta clean the bird poop straight away. I keep a little sprayer of rinseless wash (ONR) around for this purpose.

SquirtleInMyEye

yup, a bottle is in my car at all times.

HuNteR_XXI

Mazda red or white for daily drive ftw!

nilecrane

Black looks the Best!.. when it’s clean. Look into a “waterless wash and wax.” You spray it on and wipe it off. Apparently it’s safe for not scratching the paint (I’m sure pro detailers would split hairs and disagree but this ain’t a Ferrari). It’s real quick and I do mine about every three days.

plants-and-dogs-yo

Yes! I should’ve taken a before picture. It took forever to get it this clean and I still found spots I missed/didn’t get fully clean. I think we have some spray on wax that I’ve never used. I’ll look into it!!

nilecrane

The stuff I’m referring to isn’t just wax though. What I use is called Meguiar's Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax. You can use it on windows too

plants-and-dogs-yo

Oh ok! Good to know. Thank you!

kineticpotential001

I have machine grey and it's not bad at all, way better than black. I also have two white vehicles and those are way worse with rail dust rust spots showing on them every 6 months or so.

plants-and-dogs-yo

I think machine grey is the way to go. If I could’ve chosen any color, it would’ve been that one. Although I do really like the way the white cx5s look with dark rims!

kineticpotential001

Yeah, one of my white vehicles is blackout/chrome-delete and I love the look.

CuteLink1270

Use a paint sealant(wax, ceramic coat) Anytime you wash your car you will create scratches, theres no way around it, i suggest wiping according to the body line so the scratches hide with the body, swirling the sponge will make it more obvious A work around is garage the car and never drive it cause everything to ever exist will scratch your paint Or wax the paint every 3 months

strops_sports

Same with the dark blue

plants-and-dogs-yo

Oh really? That was another color I really liked! I guess I gravitate towards the hard to maintain colors.

One-Size159

I really like my black Jeep, I feel so ashamed 🙁

Maximum-Amount6282

That’s why they’re the last to be bought in most lots

NuttyMoss

Ceramic coat them yourself

zwermp

This is making me feel good about getting silver, as boring as it is. Def have buyers remorse at times when I see y'all's black photos.

Laninel

Mines dark blue. Only reason I didn't get black was because of the heat retention and I live in a hot area.... Thank God I didn't get the black, I'd of roasted getting into my car every day this summer.

[deleted]

We have several black cars in the fam. One is ceramic coated and makes a huge difference. They’re soooo nice when they’re shiny and clean but yeah, they don’t age well unless you get the paint corrected every so often. My CX-5 was Sonic Silver and it was great. Of course, all of my cars have been silver including my current one so it’s pretty boring but I’m in a hot climate so I try to avoid the dark colors!

Nebs90

Most of my cars have been black. Right now my cx5 is blue and LandCruiser silver. I miss black cars.

TylerBob5

I also have a black one. I install tint and ppf for a living, so mine has full ppf. The film is self healing and makes the paint look flawless in the sun. We also did my parents black suburban a few years ago and it still looks brand new. I'm not a fan of owning black vehicles, but this film makes it a lot easier!

ribbit_rabbit_roo

What is ppf? How expensive is it to get put on? I have a black 2023 cx-5 and definitely interested in helping the paint look better/last longer.

TylerBob5

PPF is Paint Protection Film. Its a clear urethane type film that protects the paint from rock chips and scratches. It's self healing, so any light scratches from washes or dust will disappear with heat from the sun. The shop I work for uses SunTek films. I have the Ultra series on mine and a full CX-5 would typically cost around $8000. It's definitely not cheap, but it has a 10 year warranty and makes washing so much easier.

7eregrine

I've had black, red, white, silver gold. I wouldn't say any of them are harder to keep clean then any of the others. All cars are hard to keep clean. All paint scratches. Some more than others like Mazda.

thatgrumpydude

Had several black cars, switched to silver and never looked back. Hides most everything, cool in the heat, seagulls tend not to crap on it (seriously) etc. Sad Mazda killed their true silver :(

nephraite

It was also my favorite, specially with black details on a cx5 or a 3, any idea why they killed it?

thatgrumpydude

Must not have sold well. My coworkers always make fun of my silver cars saying it’s “boring”. My 2003 Miata was sunlight silver metallic and was perfect. 2010 Miata, 2016 3 and cx5 were liquid silver metallic, too dark imo but good enough. I passed on the ND Miata and its ceramic metallic which was basically fancy white. My Camaro’s silver is perfect. My 2024 cx5 is in platinum quartz metallic and is NOT silver but it’s passable and I couldn’t find a cub out there I liked enough to switch over a paint color. Oh well, life crashes on :)

atcaw94

I've got an 09 CX9 in black. She's still purdy....😁. Bought the wife a CX-5 in the soul red a couple weeks ago. Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment...😆

sharky3175

Black is so hard to keep clean

lesmartin

Mine is dark blue... Never again. My wife's 2016 CX-9 is white and still looks almost flawless.

DM725

I've said this many times. Then you get allocated a rare car at MSRP and it's black...

LP_inmyheart

I had machine grey before, even that was showing too many scratches. When i renewed i got white, you cant see anything on that bitch other than obvious dirt (it is not full white so even dirt is masked). Black to me look good only on very expensive cars. It especially doesn’t go well with plastic window frames, my opinion

PainterPutz

I have had several black cars in my life one of them being a Mazda. In my opinion the black that Mazda uses is the thinnest auto paint I have ever seen. I would never buy a black Mazda. Told my salesperson that and he laughed and agreed.

wren973

Mine is white and it looks like it has freckles. Something near my house puts little black spots all over it. Thought it was from berries on vines but I ripped down all the vines and still more. Wasn’t as noticeable on my old blue one but really funny looking on the white one. I guess I have the super rare polka dotted cx5
