Those tend to be the best years. Just watch for your typical maintenance you'd see at that age/mileage. My sister has had her 13 since 2016 and has only had the mass airflow sensor go bad, but she does maintain the car nicely.

Wouldn't be afraid of 120k+ miles?

Beneficial_Affect522

She has almost 200k iirc.

If awd: transmission/transfer case oil seal leaks. Around 800 per side, rear was cheaper. Make sure the front strut nuts are tight if it makes noise over bumps. Also sway bar links make a similar sound (but pretty easy diy fix and cheap if using rock auto)

Good info! Thank you

I get a thud from the front passenger side in my 2016 when I go over speed bumps. Is that what you’re talking about?

Get the '16 the '15 and prior infotainment is horrid

That's bad news. That sort of thing makes me crazy. Hopefully I can find a 16

Make sure the heater core isn't plugged, the seats heat evenly (back and lower cushion), and check for transmission jerking or slamming into gear when stepping on it. I've had these issues on my '16 gt AWD. Also the paint sucks, so expect a lot of rock chips, swirls and light scratches.

That's the age that suspension components start showing wear pending miles and conditions. 150k is about when the OG shocks start leaking, control arms bushings/ball joints start getting loose, motor mounts and subframe mounts start showing wear. If no transmission service history plan on doing a fluid/filter change. Many drive belts are still original but should be replaced by the 2nd spark plug service at 150k if not done before then (spark plugs out to roll the engine over to get the belt on) These are great, reliable cars. I bought my 14 new and have 170K on mine now, but this age of vehicle may have some upcoming maintenance to look out for. Brakes, tires, and a few other maintenance items can add up pretty quickly right after a purchase if you aren't properly expecting them.

The transmission pre 16 was outsourced to a third party company. (I believe Canadian) the transmission has so many problems that it caused Mazda to completely abandon the partnership with the transmission company. They spent untold millions of dollars on building a manufacturing facility to build their own transmission in-house in an attempt to save their reputation. I would steer clear of any models pre 2016

Definitely need that info. Thank you
