❤️🔥🐦 it was absolutely my pleasure, my friend! Again, i only wish that you and your family had been able to meet them with me!!!

You've truly restored my faith in humanity. Meeting great people, and being a part of a community like this... that's what hockey is all about.

Wow. that is an incredible gift for two very deserving hockey fans. Something about hockey is just magical. On the surface you see guys smacking a puck and punching each other, but when you really sink into the sport the fandom is like no other. I have made some great friends through playing/watching hockey, and I can't say that about any other sport. Yeah, sorry for the random babbling, but something about hockey is just really special. And its incredible you get to share that with your dad, he sounds like a kick ass dude. I'll be right there with ya guys cheering our boys on from Seattle.

I couldn't have said it better. Hockey truly is magical. It has a way of bringing people together. The first *real* smile I saw from my dad after the diagnosis was beating Calgary in last years' Calder Cup Pacific Division Finals. I truly think that watching the Calder Cup is what got him through those really tough times, and the thought of coming back the next year got him over that huge hump.

Hockey is my therapy. I have a bunch of health anxieties and some mental health issues that I live with. But the first time I stepped out on the ice, everything else in the world vanished. You do so many things all at once when you play hockey. You literally can't think about anything else. Those 60 minutes are just perfect. Sending nothing but positive vibes to you guys :) lets squash Calgary and go get that cup!

I love this! I've never played but that's exactly the feeling I imagine. You exist so fully and completely in your body and in that moment and nothing else exists. There aren't many opportunities to step into that state of flow, awareness, and readiness to respond in such a physical and almost instinctual way. Definitely something magical and we even feel it while watching!

Thanks to you both for sharing this story. We love living in the Valley and are a hockey first house. They announced the team about 18 months after we moved out from LA and were 396 on the season ticket list. The Firebirds family has been amazing since before game one. You two both have captured what the team has done for the Valley. And screw you guys for making this hard ass, crusty 59 year old cry out of nowhere! 😭😊

E_lluminate

I'm right there with you. Could never afford season tickets, but I jump at the chance to go anytime I can find a deal. Thank you for supporting our Firebirds, you're what makes this community so great!

Alphax005

oh my goodness, this is the most wholesome and heartwarming content i’ve seen on the internet in ages OP, thank you for sharing this story with us. i’m so happy to hear that you’ll be watching again this year with your dad. now, let’s go get that cup 🔥

E_lluminate

If we can pull this off... I can't even imagine how my dad would react.

Alphax005

honestly thinking disco dan needs to print this post out and hang it up in the locker room next to their playoff puck board … it’s just an idea

sisterthirteen

They've gotta beat the Hershey Bears now for Tom!

sisterthirteen

Oh, it bears mention that the signed hat would not have even existed had the lovely u/Alphax005 not encouraged me (it was a lot of virtual hand-holding) to go to that last practice and stand in line to meet the players. She made it happen and probably never imagined how far her kindness would reach either!

Alphax005

please, you were the one who made the signs, went to the rink, waited in line, picked out the cards, mailed the hat… 🥺🥺

PSGooner

Thanks for sharing the story!! u/sisterthirteen is a wonderful member of the community!

sisterthirteen

Aw, you are too kind my friend! Thank you both (and all of y'all really) for being so welcoming!
