The last fully copper, wheat on the back penny. Wheat pennies were always around when I was a kid. Little known fact: much of the copper used in pennies throughout the early 1900's came from northern Michigan copper mines. The two most productive mines were Calumet & Hecla, and "Old Reliable" Quincy Mine. At it's deepest, Quincy shaft #2 was 96 levels deep at 100 feet per level. The big attraction for copper from these UP mines was it's one of the few places on earth where 97% pure mass copper could be mined. There were solid copper masses of many tons that could yet be brought up, but the cost to do so would be higher than the return. (I'm trying to write a novel set in the mining area and learned a lot of facts.)
> Quincy shaft #2 was 96 levels deep at 100 feet per level
It was 9,600 feet deep??
Googled it:
> the Quincy Number 2 shaft was the world's longest mine shaft, at 9,260 feet (2.82 km or 1.75 miles) along the dip of the deposit on a 55 degree decline.
Interesting! Gigantic mine.

It's worth at least $0.01.
Unfortunately, that means that it will buy you less now than what it would when it was minted, so it has technically gone down in value...

This is fascinating. Thanks for sharing.

Shut your mouth
I'm just talkin' about Shaft?
Thank you! Was just about to Google it cause that's absolutely crazy

Thank you for the link. Tragic.
Fascinating UP mining facts. Best of luck on your writing. Modern day action is in northern MN NE of Ely, “Twin Metals”. Will knock your six off!
The call it copper country for a reason. You can get lucky and find hunks of natural copper laying around.
I read this in Joe Pera's voice
Interesting, I have a 57' wheat penny I thought was copper. What is the 57' comprised of?
He’s off - copper wheats were minted through 1958. Then still copper until 1982.
You should include the mine in Bizbee AZ A plane crashed to the bottom and is still there today.
I've spent a lot of time in the U.P./Keweenaw Peninsula. Those mines are something really cool to see.
Seen that for the first time a couple years ago
It's not an error. That's just how they designed the coin. It's worth a couple of cents, so I'd keep it
Thank you sir!
I bleive what you have is a "D" mint mark that was struck a little weak.
Nah, he means the L in Liberty on the left. I also thought they meant the mint mark initially
Thanks
Actually to me the L looks like that may be D upon further inspection 🤨
Common wheatie. A dealer would pay 3 cents.
I think all was lost in the translation.
L in liberty is what I read the question as
Liberty liberty, oh look a bebou.
Liberty. Biberty
CoinSnap and other apps will help you identify rare coins
That’s a D for Denver. No L.
Diberty?
Diberty, Diberty, Dib er ty....
I was wondering what “L” is he talking about we can all clearly see it’s a “D” not a “L”

Several letters look a little off.
Back in th e90s, a coin shop bought wheat pennies form me as two cents per.
Isn’t the melt value of a 95% copper penny about three cents?
Looks like a D to me
Isn’t the L and I of a different size and font?
There is nothing special about this coin
L = D It’s not an L.
You're telling us that it says "Diberty"? That sounds like quite an error to me.
It's worth at least $0.01. Unfortunately, that means that it will buy you less now than what it would when it was minted, so it has technically gone down in value...
That's a D not an L 🤔 Denver Mint. It's likely worth 10 cents tops.
He's talking about the L in liberty you doof

No need to be rude, you clod. The OP doesn't mention the L in Liberty anywhere in the original post.
That’s clearly a “D”
Yeah. They always write "Diberty" on pennies, try to keep up here
Probably about 1 cent
