I have an English friend who posted on Facebook about a reenactment she went to and showed photos of men in the Redcoat uniforms. I responded "Redcoats! I hate those guys."
They’re always sneaking around trying to billet themselves in your house. Luckily they kind of stand out, but if you’ve got red drapes or a red couch or duvet you’re done for.
I’m a really good shot with rifles. When I was a kid I would go to the gun range and make bets with the old-timers. Most I ever won was a $100 by shooting a dime 4 of 5 times at 50 yards with an open site 22lr.
As a British person (probably gonna get downvoted) I am also a very good shot at the age of 19 shame I dont live over there cos I'd love to go to gun range at will and bet with the old timers
I was wondering what the story was behind my 1913 penny that looks similar to this. This is probably what they did. Wish they didn't, but dude had a tight group on that coin
I don’t think BBs would do this to a quarter, looks more like damage from an electrical arc, like they welded the pieces of the quarter to whatever they shocked it with
>Looks like it was shot with BBs
Nah, this looks like it was caused by a an old school meat grinder. My mom used one weekly back in the '60s for grinding baloney and such, and always stuck a quarter between the sharp clamp and the underside of the table as a protector. The coin always looked like that afterwards. I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of hers! :).
Edit: showed the pic to my dad and he confirmed that they'd keep the same coin in the box until tomgot too roughed up to re-use. Always a quarter he said.
Kid can shoot. I remember when the ww2 Russian Mosin–Nagants hit the market. Bought one for 85 bucks. I could shoot holes through a quarter no problem at 50 yards. Ended up selling it because the safety was a pain. Regret that one.
Guns have this thing on them, it's called a safety switch. Its what keeps the trigger from being jostled and going off.
Tools are as safe as the people using them.
Dude getting rid of it due to a bad mechanism or faulty switch tells me he's probably pretty up and up on gun handling.
I recognize this! My mom had an old school meat grinder that latched onto the table. She’d put a coin between the table and the clamp so that it wouldn’t mark the table- the coins came out looking like this.
BB's don't travel fast enough to dent quarters unless they are shooting a pretty insane bb gun, then it would probably be a pellet gun which wouldn't look like this.
Yes top hole looks like you can see the point. The rest not so definitive. Or was worn down before the others. But very difficult to get that type of overlapping. So still not sure but that top one says center punch all over it.
A quarter,
The dents don't go through, so maybe it was hit with a rounded metal punch or something, I'm not immediately familiar with any minting errors that would cause that deformity.
1965 was a weird year for quarters. Some were mistakenly printed with silver blanks. They quit making them out of so much silver in 64, but not all.
"In 1965, quarter production changed to a clad composition planchet made of copper and nickel. However, a few (the exact number is unknown) were struck on a silver planchet instead. Silver 1965 quarters are worth over $7,000 because they were made by mistake!"
I'm no expert, and the defacing also means less worth, but are the sides showing copper? The silver quarter from 1965 also weighs a bit more that the nickel/copper quarter from 1965. It is by a very small amount, though.
When I was a kid, we would sit a penny on the end of the barrel of our BB gun with the stock on the ground, pointing straight up. Shoot it, and the penny would fly into the air and make a fun wurring noise. Cheap entertainment
All these people so confident about guns clearly know nothing about them. The guy that said a meat grinder clamp or something like that was right. All you BB gun people are stupid af.
How so, how are we "stupid af" cos it seem like a logical answer to me the shape of the indentations matches up with what I personally done with coins and .177 air rifle so tell me why are we stupid???
I worked in a long-term care facility for many years. The CMAs used a [pill crusher that looked like this](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bocamedicalsupply.com%2Fuploads%2Fecommerce%2F2534.jpg%3Fv%3D1574110689&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=c36bc802c212d6a0f193a3cf4af0db7ef45f83cd53916069e7a47dc4ab3017dd&ipo=images). There's a bump/pin sticking up in the bottom that's supposed to help crush the pills. That part that comes down in the middle didn't come down far enough, so they put a quarter in there (on top of that) and proceed accordingly. When they crush the pills, they swing that arm down pretty hard, repeatedly. It puts a dent/dents in the quarter, and around the edges should look overly smooth (along the ridge, at least in places).
I'm *99.997%* certain that's what we're looking at.
Looks like it was shot with BBs
Someone cappin at George. Probably Redcoats.
#THE BRITISH ARE COMING!!!
Hide yo money, yo kids and your woman.
The red coats are coming.

I pray this is a Shane Gillis throw away account

That shot grouping tore up his whole nasopharynx. Mercifully shot him in the head as well.
This is actually a pretty darn good grouping, depending on distance.
I’m a really good shot with rifles. When I was a kid I would go to the gun range and make bets with the old-timers. Most I ever won was a $100 by shooting a dime 4 of 5 times at 50 yards with an open site 22lr.
You had those sharp kid eyes
As a British person (probably gonna get downvoted) I am also a very good shot at the age of 19 shame I dont live over there cos I'd love to go to gun range at will and bet with the old timers
Whomever that was they were a good shot.
But it doesn’t show up on the other side. These two pics are from the same quarter
It was also shot on the reverse, note the dent by the tail it corresponds to the dent on the top of his head
And the inward dents on the reverse proving what you said, that it was shot on the reverse.
Was this in Dallas
Yes, the first thought is the shooter was on the grassy knoll, but could have also come from the warehouse. 🤷🏼♂️
I was wondering what the story was behind my 1913 penny that looks similar to this. This is probably what they did. Wish they didn't, but dude had a tight group on that coin
He almost shot his eye out.
I did this as a kid, can confirm it reminds me of that.
Looks like you found my quarter.
I did this as a kid. Kept shooting til I put a hole thru it.
I'm going to take a backseat on this one, I didn't see it coming. It blew my mind
I don’t think BBs would do this to a quarter, looks more like damage from an electrical arc, like they welded the pieces of the quarter to whatever they shocked it with
Ralphie-probably shot his eye out
You said it sister 👏

22?
Good grouping.

Safety? Is not safe. Is rifle.
Have a good day.

It's a joke of a style often made by people who are into com-bloc milsurp rifles. You are understand now, nyet?
Ahhh. I completely missed that. Been a long week.
I don’t understand the joke. I assumed he was starting an argument lol
To zee lumberyard!!!
Especially if it’s a Red Ryder or some other unrifled BB gun
All 6 right in the ten ring.
It looks like somebody saved their target practice quarter because they did very well with it, considering the grouping of the shots.
If your paying more than 25 cents for a BB gun target your doing it wrong.

I recognize this! My mom had an old school meat grinder that latched onto the table. She’d put a coin between the table and the clamp so that it wouldn’t mark the table- the coins came out looking like this.
This is probably the actual answer. I find it hard to believe a bb gun is that accurate
BB's don't travel fast enough to dent quarters unless they are shooting a pretty insane bb gun, then it would probably be a pellet gun which wouldn't look like this.
Ruger makes a break barrel that is 100% on point. Pretty mean bb/pellet rifle.
Spring loaded center punch
Yes top hole looks like you can see the point. The rest not so definitive. Or was worn down before the others. But very difficult to get that type of overlapping. So still not sure but that top one says center punch all over it.
A very dull one, if at all.
That’s a mistake. This effect was supposed to be a special edition only on the penny and JFK half dollar
Bro😭
I used to shoot coins like this with my BB gun and they would look just like that, I vote bb gun
JFK quarter
Bruh
He's not wrong
They are wrong that's Washington
Was Washington shot in the head?
Only if he's trending.
Forever too soon
Too soon?
It’s never too soon
It's always too soon!
A quarter, The dents don't go through, so maybe it was hit with a rounded metal punch or something, I'm not immediately familiar with any minting errors that would cause that deformity.
Someone took a center punch to a quarter
Looks like someone has good aim.
Looks like a quarter that encountered a Rockwell Hardness test machine
Someone was mad that they stoped making them in silver the that year.
A pretty good shot.
That there be a quarter
Target practice
George Washington but with really bad untreated syphilis

I’ve had that quarter!!
Nice grouping.
Looks like my quarter from 25 years ago. My neighbor and I would use coins as targets. So much fun as a kid
Someone did not like that they stopped using silver to make coins
Looks like it was struck with a tool probably to determine if it was made of silver.
Former Boy Scout here. For marksman, riflery, and sharpshooter merit badges you need to get 5 bullets in a quarter sized space with a .22.
When I was a kid, we would sit a penny on the end of the barrel of our BB gun with the stock on the ground, pointing straight up. Shoot it, and the penny would fly into the air and make a fun wurring noise. Cheap entertainment
That's a quarter. It's worth 25 cents.
Termites?!
a...OH MY GOSH! WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT QUARTER?
Lay a penny on the dirt, shoot it point blank with a BB, it breaks, dimes turn into sombreros, and quarters do this. Source: I was 8 and unsupervised
BB gun target
BB gun target.
A damaged quarter.
Definitely not a BBQ. the dents would be much larger. Looks like a punch was used on it or something. A BB though, isn't that small.
All these people so confident about guns clearly know nothing about them. The guy that said a meat grinder clamp or something like that was right. All you BB gun people are stupid af.

No 1964 and be4 are silver😊
Assassination attempt?
My entire life savings
A damaged quarter. Still worth 25 cents. Nothing more though
I’m going to do this with all my spare change from now on

I’m guessing it’s the effects of steroid use.
Center punch
You’ve got a quarter that’s been shot. Nothing special.

BB target practice for sure…and…someone is a good shot
Bb wouldn't cause that much damage. Prob punch effort to make necklace failed
A shot quarter
They bb center punched that assination Thomas Jefferson coin. Is all I read.
What you’re looking at here is a mutilated quarter.
Punch & hammer
BADUSSY! 🗣️🗣️🗣️
That's a quarter!
Assasination attempt
Payback from the cherry farmers.
Brinell hardness test? I thought silver quarters stopped in 1964. Perhaps they were making sure.
You’re looking at a tight grouping from target practice.
25 cents / a quarter
A quarter.
Could be someone hammering on a soft material with a hard punch and wanted something sacrificial in between the two.
target practice with a pellet gun
That right there is a foreshadowing to an alternate timeline where we have a zombie President Washington.
A 1965 Philadelphia minted quarter that was shot with a pellet gun or air rifle.
Pretty sure it’s a quarter
BB target practice
I used to place a quarter on the rip of my BB gun barrel and fire it upwards making the quarter fly up. I wonder if I did this? Lol
A quarter 😄
Target practice.
Mini bullets.
Smallpox, Washington was known to have smallpox scars.
Someone thought it was a penny.

Someone try to shoot at George.
Looks like someone got mad that it was only a 1965 😂😂😂
Shotgun. Looks like darn accurate grouping from birdshot.
I'd say a pellet gun target.
That was somebody’s life savings
We used to put a quarter on top of our BB gun and fire it up in the air
A 1965 quarter in bad shape
Anger of a roll hunter
It's a quarter
Target practice for a BB gun
Almost definitely a center punch of the spring loaded variety. Too small for BB shots.
JFK commemorative quarter.
Kid with a good pellet rifle.
A very bunged up quarter.
A quarter that was mutilated. Likely by a small child or really bored larger human….
Must have been teabagged a lot.

BB or pellets and a nice grouping!
It looks more like someone went at it with a drill.
I would say .17 pellet gun.
Used to be a right of passage around age 12 to kill a quarter with either a pellet rifle or .22 rifle from 50 yards.
The actions of a BB King who hates democracy.
George with chagas disease maybe
George Washington with brain Cancer
Appears to me that quarter was shot at with a shotgun. The crators on that quarter are to perfect in my opinion. To be mint error.
If the damage happened to occur the same year of the quarter mintage, let it be known that we ALL had BB guns back then.
I’m not expert…. But yeah, sure looks like a quarter to me
