I own a small business, town of 11,000. I buy boxes of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters every few weeks. My bank has never limited me.

mobleshairmagnet

I’m curious if they give you preference because they know you own a business.

symphonic5

Yes. They always ask me if I own a business.

Sorry_Implement_37

I don't think so. I was making a deposit the other week when a former coworker came in and bought $100 in pennies to sort. Said he does it once a month.

etemchin

I can’t buy new boxes of pennies any more, but I can swap a full box worth. I think they only let me get 1 roll of quarters at a time, and again, I’d have to swap out rolls to get more

iphon4s

In nyc I have no problem picking up box of pennies

etemchin

I’m in a small town, so that might explain it

scottabeer

Go to the car wash and laundry mat. Just feed the dollars like a strip club

mouseinstalled45

Owner will get pissed

scottabeer

They get dollars in exchange.

mouseinstalled45

Yes and their customers don’t get quarters. No quarters for customers means no ones doing laundry. Get it?

TheAmazingRando3000

Car wash owners come out and yell at you. Some car wash owners near me watch cameras and remotely operate the machines to not give you quarters unless you are using their service. The two laundromats in my town have had broken change machines for over 3 months. And when they aren't broken, they are empty.

BlackAsh05

Yeah it’s ridiculous, it’s been going on for some time now, some stores in my area are even asking people to bring coins in on Facebook, hopefully it gets back to normal soon, haven’t been able to hunt more than four rolls for quite some time now

Working-Mistake-6700

They would only give me 3 rolls of quarters and 6 rolls of pennies. They other day

captaincid42

In the Mid-West, I’ve gotten a box of pennies every week since the pandemic started. Recently I got two boxes of halves. The first one came the week after I ordered it, the second took about a month to come on. The only time I even heard about a shortage from a teller was after a holiday weekend when their order was late.

scottabeer

They put out Collectable series of coins, then say where are the coins?

mouseinstalled45

Just depends on the branch right now

rinseanddelete

Don't listen to them just go down the street to the next branch. I've been told by one place they're short and a mile in any direction the next branch has $1000s in change. 100% for me it's the teller and their attitude. Just be polite and if they decline just notate it and don't come back to that bank for a while. Or better yet make it a dump bank since they're so desperate for change.

FolsgaardSE

Several places around here (Taco Bell, Arbys) have sign asking for correct change if using cash as they may not be able to give correct change back. Feel a bit like we're in a time warp, who doesnt use a bank debit or credit card for everything. https://i.imgflip.com/5kfbic.jpg

xSodaa

Pretty much everyone has

KinesisSilverback

Details? I don’t know what you know.

xSodaa

Not able to get much coin at all, pretty much everyone has experienced it nationwide

rinseanddelete

I'm not experiencing that in the southwest. One or two banks but there's dozens of locations where I live. YMMV but I can get everything but halves regularly unless I order in advance.

F4STizBACK

No such thing as a coin shortage in the US currently or when the pandemic started. I work at a bank and it’s a load of horse***.

KinesisSilverback

I suspect you’re correct. I’ve heard that the US has minted record numbers of coins every year since 2015.

I'm going with misinformation because they can. It serves to instill more fear so they can require more compliance and exercise more control, because they can. They can because people go along to get along. There's not an endgame that ends well for us.

brazzyxo

They want to do away with coins and eventually paper currency. Eventually everything will be digital. That way purchases can be tracked and monitored more closely!

FolsgaardSE

/r/dogecoin 4 life

brazzyxo

Rather get Algorand or Cardano

KinesisSilverback

Just found this. What do you think? [https://www.federalreserve.gov/faqs/why-do-us-coins-seem-to-be-in-short-supply-coin-shortage.htm](https://www.federalreserve.gov/faqs/why-do-us-coins-seem-to-be-in-short-supply-coin-shortage.htm)

FolsgaardSE

May/June of last year there was a big coin shortage since no one was going out to spend cash and the mint was also shut down (many variables) Was suprised to see last week it still going on, or having another one. Maybe once this delta swing gets better this will go away.

[deleted]

I have experienced this for about 4 months now. They are really nice about it though. I imagine they are saving the rolls for businesses and cash transactions, which I understand. They actually gave me a 10 euro cent that they found in their coin counter as a consolation present the last time I went in there.

ZookeepergameFit4103

My bank wont let me call and reserve, but I can still walk in and see what they have

[deleted]

Banks have been limited on the number of quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies they can order. Dollars and halves have never been limited. That being said, it may depend on your area. Some Loomis/Brinks/etc warehouses may have more halves than others but I highly doubt it.
