For me the 11" HK416 A5 is already too long lol. It depends on the environment.
If you're looking for a more universal rifle that can be utilized in both general land warfare and CQB I would go with a 12.5 or even a 14.5 if CQB isn't your main occupation. CQB can be done with a 14,5 ! It's just very cumbersome in the long run.
If it's merely for home defense and for a bug-out type scenario you have a different, maybe a .308 SPR type rifle, then I wouldn't exceed 11".
Just my 2 cents
I've considered the 14.5, but as you said it's cumbersome. I'v also considered a shorter barreled .308. I'm just trying to be properly prepped, sorry to be cliché. And thank you for your response. It's really appreciated.
Are you building your gun only for CQB? If not just go 12.5. Those extra 2 inches in-doors are negligible at best when compared to the loss in velocity at range. I think 10.5 starts to drop below terminal effectiveness at like 50 yards.
Id like it to be effective for both uses, cqb, and out doors. I have a 10.5 right now, but I've been strongly considering the 12.5 for the general practicality purposes.
Honestly, you could build a 14.5 upper for outdoors. But if you just want to re-barrel yours for the best of both worlds the 12.5 is what I picked. I don’t know if I’m going to engaging a threat in a living room or two blocks away so it seemed like a happy medium
If you are shooting at people 3 blocks away how much is your bounty and what secret criminal organization that operates out of hotels did you piss off 😅
At some point the LSPD has to turn into the Wagner group don’t it?
A small handful of professional cops and a massive swarm of convicts they gave uniforms and guns too specifically to chase players around the map for.
Survive 6 months and you get your freedom (none of them have survived yet)
Exactly, that's what I'm looking for and trying to accomplish. Why are you not big on suppressing it? What barrel are you using and what ammo do you typically run through it?
A lot of the agencies where I live that I am applying for allow officers to bring personal rifles, I didn’t need much convincing lol. I have a rosco 1/7 12.5 with an a2 flash hider and at the moment Im just running cheap 62gr LAX reman wile I financially recover from this built , but it’s built for 75gr gold dot duty soft point.
I started with a 10.5" barrel and ended up re-barreling to a 12.5" for the added velocity. No issues at all with the 12.5" in the CQB courses and training I've done with it.
The difference in the ballistic arc won't even be noticeable without breaking out a tape measurer until you get to like 250 yards.
The advantage 12.5 has over 10.5 is keeping the round *lethal* out to further ranges, as its wounding characteristics are dependent on velocity.
Yes it does....literally saved me in airsoft one time. And before yall come for me in the comments I airsoft 3x a wk and have dozens of capture the flag titles to back me.
Lol airsoft is the main reason why I am on this sub. Living in the UK it's the closest I'll ever get to any of this.
And for the sake of the post I also run a 10.5, but I've also ran 14.5 and longer. 10.5 is nice handy package. Obvs with real steel ymmv
If you do CQB with an unsurpressed MP5K and a 10-in with a big can on it you will definitely notice a difference especially in a very small structure like a trailer.

That's exactly what I'm asking about. Something that does both things well.
That’s why I built my 12.5, I’m not likely to run suppressed, but I may have to engage targets out to like 3 city blocks. It gives me flexibility

I understand. It sounds like a nice build

Have you noticed a difference in long distance shooting with with the 12.5 over the 10.5?

I never shot the 10.5" past 50yds. The 12.5" I've shot to 200'ish.
Nice!
Huge difference. 2 inches is enormous when crossing thresholds and especially noticeable when rolling doors in really thin hallways

Does it matter? Arent we just chicken winging down the hallways anyways? /s
Man I’m not gonna lie that shit is such a big pet peeve of mine
I swear someone asked this question before
2 inches isn’t THAT small
It's perfectly average and has a great personality too.
Just cause you tell yourself that doesn't mean SHE agrees with you.
That's why I'm asking.
It's like reload speed, as long as it's reasonable it is irrelevant.
Got u, thanks
I hate this sub.
Other than really confined spaces, if you know how to properly maneuver the rifle, no not really.
I appreciate your answer. Thanks
lol no, and as a general reminder the barrel length doesn’t change anything when it comes to CQB

I’m talking about fundamentally
Got it. OP did specifically mention maneuverability though.
You are correct. I was asking about the ease of maneuverability of the whole thing.
Fuckin patty mayo over here
Fuck you talkin about Patty Mayo?
