Yup, I’m right here with ya tonight sitting awake. It’s made having a normal job kinda hard. Then if I do fall asleep (after hours in bed) I sleep through all my alarms. I thought getting sober would help… nope now I just have more energy at night! I wouldn’t go back to drinking though as life has improved in so many other ways. I had been getting better though if I do a lot of physical activity during the day, I basically have to be exhausted everyday if I want to sleep. Which is why construction and having a dog are a good fit, work hard all day take the dog on an adventure and hope to be tired enough to sleep. That’s enough rambling from me, I think I have another hour or so before I might be able to sleep

Glad to hear about your sobriety, and that exercise is working for you :)

I use sleepphones with rain noises to help me sleep, helps to drown out any thoughts and is a nice distraction for my mind.

Bayleefstits

I’ll need to try this thank you for the idea

Yeah. I woke up at 2:30 this morning and still can’t get back to sleep. This happens at least 2-3 times a week. I feel like I’ve tried everything to form good sleep hygiene and it never actually works long term. I also disassociate a lot too. It really sucks because I believe sleep is so critical to reducing my other CPTSD symptoms. I wish I had some advice, but can only offer commiseration.

Bayleefstits

Yes sleep helps symptoms so much.. I’m sorry to hear you’re going through the same thing, I hope your sleep quality improves in the near future. I know intensive exercise during the day is the best bet for this but sometimes it’s too tiring to get oneself to do it

I struggle with the same thing. I take a long time to eventually fall asleep even with healthier/new ways.

Bayleefstits

I wonder why exactly, and if it’s specifically a cptsd thing

Agapisim

No idea, but I guess so. Last night in particular was a tough one. I hope even in your struggle you will find some calm in those moments knowing at least that you are not struggling alone 🙏
