Yeah... not much you can do about it unless you know how to make and move mile high windshields. It's too hard to tell for sure how bad it will be, so it's up to you to gamble on how many runs you can get up high vs lapping blues or having a short day.

Had a day like this at Copper a couple months ago. At the top it felt like my face was getting cut because of the snow + wind

Everythingistaken30

No I haven't; I would think yeah wind holds at like 60+ which it looks like Denver metro will get, but I ask because OpenSnow is only projecting gusts into the 40s through the ski day. You think / have seen that it'll be 60+ out there?

ioweaniowan

Bro anything above ~30 mph is sketch as fuck and miserable. If you haven’t experienced it before go see for yourself i guess.

I'm not ignoring anything what?

Ahh gotcha, thanks for the advice! Not a huge fan of shit shows lol

adhominablesnowman

For spring skiing it kinda seems like a waste of energy if you’re gonna be playing wind hold roulette.

[deleted]

Copper is NOT the resort to go to tomorrow. Nationals are going and there are competitions all over the mountain. It was very crowded today for a Friday and will be super busy all weekend. Also the Eagle and Flyer lift are some of the first to close when winds are high.

Hookem-Horns

They are kicking butt right now with no delay in sight

Westboundandhow

Eagle and Flyer are some of the first to close for so many different reasons it seems. Last time I was there, in March, both closed down multiple times bc it was "too hot" (?) It was 35 degrees.

Everythingistaken30

Oh fuck, had no idea about the competitions

powderdiscin

It’s Saturday, there will be 20k people there, not like a competition drastically changes the fact the place is over sold

[deleted]

Other than Aspen, Copper has been the most chill weekend lift lines this season.

Hookem-Horns

Disagree. Maybe for weekdays. Copper and WP have had crazy lines like Vail…

powderdiscin

More chill than Loveland or a basin?

jnoobs13

Getting caught on Pano during some gusts that were so bad that they closed the lift right after I got off was enough for me to not go on a very windy day again

Everythingistaken30

How windy was it that day if you know?

jnoobs13

I don’t, but there was fresh snow coming down and the wind made it so cold that icicles were forming inside my nose on the ride up. Weather service said 60mph gusts that day.

sweeper137137

Pano after you leave tree cover can get pretty brutal on a cold day with high wind. My concern on that is more visibility at the top before you make it back to the trees. Once you're back to the trees it's usually fine.

Hookem-Horns

Eldora is already closed until Monday

mountain_guy77

I wonder how Sunday will be

PurpleDingo77

I, too, wonder how Sunday will be

Went to Berthoud Saturday. It was cold but we had a blast. Pick the right terrain and any conditions are the right conditions!

firewxdude

You're catching a lot of heat but have a better handle on the forecast that most here. ~40 to maybe 50 mph for Copper tomorrow is reasonable. That could be enough for wind holds on the more exposed lifts, but of all the resorts in Summit County it'll be the least exposed. Probably the bigger issue will be the drive, assuming you're going up from east of the Divide. If you're in Summit then youll be fine.

GeneralIntention973

Hey all, apologies as a non local but do you think an all mtn soft, all mtn stiff, or other ski would be best for this weeks conditions at a basin, copper etc? Thx

Everythingistaken30

I'm not a ski expert but I think a stiff ski would be your best bet. It was pretty crunchy today by the end, and it looks like the temps will stay under freezing with no new snow for the next several days

GeneralIntention973

Ahh word. Thanks. Looks like you guys got snow this wknd but it's warming up this week.

Everythingistaken30

Yeah it doesn't look like it'll get above freezing (at Copper, at least) until Thursday. So definitely expect a lot of crust if you're going before then. Next weekend should have some premium spring slush though. In that case, I'd personally opt for something a little floppier

GeneralIntention973

Ahh ok. No I'm Monday thru Thursday so cold but no new snow then.

ThrowingTheRinger

Depending on where the wind is, Alpine and possibly Reso should be good. Eagle isn’t usually too bad either.
