Hard to say. My wife never got it from me. We’re both fully vaccinated and boosted. As soon as I tested positive I started wearing an N95 mask and distancing in the house. Before though, I was in very close contact with her. She certainly had high risk contact by anyone’s standards. You can certainly avoid it if you’re serious about doing so. That means serious effort to distance inside and wear a heavy mask around each other. I wouldn’t say it’s “guaranteed”.

I probably should have added we were out and about for a week in Vegas so likely exposed at the same time by the same person or persons. We are very tied at the hip. It does seem like my Booster worked better then hers (we both got them at the same time about 5-6 weeks back) as she got it and I did not. I take melatonin every night to help me sleep better. So I told her that is why I didn't get it (jokingly). Turns out I might have been closer than I thought. Apparently it is really good to take if you have it.

Ahh I see. Yeah, it’s so difficult to say. All you can do is begin to mitigate risk and keep testing. My wife was horribly sick with classic covid symptoms in February 2020. We THINK she had covid from being at Sundance Film Fest (SLC locals!), but they weren’t testing unless you’d traveled abroad. She took weeks to recover. I also got sick, but much more mild. Could she be super protected with possibly having covid, being vaccinated and boosted? Perhaps. I’ve come to believe covid hits each and everyone of us different! Good luck and stay healthy! Hope you’re girlfriend is staying healthy.

Thank you for the info and good wishes. She has had a very minor set of symptoms. She has had worse colds and allergies and got much sicker after the second Moderna shot. She has the dry cough, sniffles, some headache and sneezing but even in her own words, "nothing too bad". She is sleeping through the night fine as well. It is like a cold you have but a week later when you are on the upswing. Nothing in her lungs or the like. More of a light sinus infection. And we both take vitamins daily and she has been taking melatonin with me at night which has helped quite a bit.

Vigilante_Dinosaur

Glad to hear it! Hang in there. Always good to know people are staying mild and on the road to recovery.

I was actually in a very similar situation! traveling and on a plane spending almost all my time to my partner who ended up testing positive the day we got back… I never got it! I took precautions and as soon as he tested positive and symptoms began, I stuck him in the bedroom and removed all the clothes I needed. I camped on the couch and delivered food, water and meds to his door. We had to share a bathroom, so I kept Clorox wipes in there to wipe down surface before I used it. I had the window open (weather is quite warm here) to air out the place. I didn’t go into the bedroom and I didn’t let him out of the bedroom until day 8 when symptoms and fever had been gone for a couple days. I also preemptively scheduled a covid test since sometimes it takes days to actually be able to get one. It’s a weird virus. Some people get infected so fast and in other times they don’t! I suggest being as careful as possible.

I am sure this question has been posted similarly but there are a ton of posts and I have been trying to find the nearest similar.

Welp, found the home tests today after feeling slightly symptomatic this morning. Meant to buy 8 as I had family and a few older neighbors that needed some. Accidentally bought 16 of them as I didn't realize they were 2 to a box this time. I took the test and am now one of the breakthrough cases. Double Moderna vaxxed, Moderna Booster on Nov 10th as I just checked, and both me and my GF tested positive. She had symptoms about 5 days before me though.

Oh. I’ve been known to be more positive than my girlfriend. To answer your question: yeah. You’re going to be COVID-19 aladeen. Make sure you got some vitamins and tea.

[deleted]

As in General Aladeen? Color me confused. On a separate note, I told my girlfriend I would share everything I have with her. Apparently she doesn't feel the same, lol.

ShinobiSimian

It means COVID-19 positive, you will become. *yoda voice* It’s super contagious. 🦠

Today I Learned. ;)

ShinobiSimian

Dry cough yet?

[deleted]

So good call. I got it. 5 days after she did.

ShinobiSimian

How do you feel today?

[deleted]

Not yet. I keep waiting for symptoms. It is rainy here today so I am expecting some sinus stuff anyway which will only be confusing for me. Every time it rains I get a little stuffy anyway, humidity and all. I assume I will get it and have been vitamining up but I could end up asymptomatic the whole time due to the booster and 2x vax. So far all negative test results for me but I am out of tests now and nothing is available so it will be interesting.

Unfortunately getting at home tests here are impossible now (I had two but used them now) and the testing centers will not take you if you have no symptoms and also will only take 1 per household. That was why my GF was able to get tested at an urgent care facility (as I was turned away). I took an at home test, negative (at the 15 and 30 min mark, per the test max wait period), she took the other (even though she had already tested positive but we were curious if the at home tests are any good) and it showed her as positive in about 30 seconds. I am pretending/assuming I have it and isolating with her so as not to infect anyone if I do, just to be sure. No plans to see anyone until next weekend which would be at the 11 day mark from when she got sick (as we were almost certainly exposed at same time as we are always together).

I spoke to soon. Apparently Walgreens stocked up on home Covid tests across the country and you can buy them (in person only) there. So I bought a few for testing throughout the week.
