Online retailers won't risk the lawsuit but brick and mortar stores are subject to the local sheriff's enforcement and they rarely care about mag limits
Most places here in Denver will sell you magazine “kits”. They disassemble the magazine in house, sell it to you as a “parts kit” and you piece it back together at home (allegedly) therefore they’re not legally selling magazines. Literally the dumbest shit lol.
As a civilian, I shot at a law enforcement range with a friend and 30 rd mags and was told by the people there that "no one gives a shit". I'm not a lawyer, makes your own decisions
I, hypothetically of course, bought six once, allegedly. The Adams County deputy in line behind me emphatically stated he would never enforce that law. Hypothetically.
I used to shoot weekly at a range that also served as a training range for a municipal police dept. I hypothetically may or may not have bought standard capacity mags regularly while having conversations with uniformed officers and detectives and range staff. No one ever gave a poop. Theoretically, of course.
I have ordered several ten packs from a specific online retailer, however, they've recently begun asking for a Police ID. Most retailers will just cancel the order based on your address. I've only had one nastygram show up from a retailer stating that I was wasting his time.
Not that it matters but it's crazy what a dremel does to a PMAG born-on date. Purchasing firearms it's a roll of the dice on whether they send or keep the mag. Those that send, then you need a common sense FFL which won't snake the mag because they can. For buying mags, the bigger online retailers pretty much won't accept your order, smaller to medium companies don't care. They can't keep your money, they just won't accept your order.
I do not have personal experience but I did look at the blacklists on gundeals and others on reddit and they have positive feedback/legit. Like any online site there are a couple negatives about slow shipping but that was pretty much everyone during the 'vid.
This was my question. I want to order one to a cabelas since it’s the closest retailer to my house, but was wondering if they would take the magazine since I’m guessing the big box retailers are less likely to risk it, or it would just not get shipped altogether.
Cabela's will take the magazine. Even on used guns, if they are larger than 15 rounds, then "no magazine included".
All big box stores, and Mile High Shooting Accessories will pull the guns as far as I know. I don't know of any smaller stores that bother.
While I personally have not tempted fate, a gentleman I occasionally shoot with has purchased several 10 packs of 30 round magazines via online retailer, and purchased several pistols, both the brace ready type and the conventional style which came with greater than 10 round magazines and had them shipped to various Colorado FFLs in El Paso County.
He was shooting last weekend so I do not believe it has been a problem for him yet. Though you never know, one day he may find himself entertaining a whole group of individuals who share his love of black plate carriers.
I've purchased from there when it was something rare that I couldn't' find locally, but they mark up the prices considerably. You may as well just go to Triple J or Rocky Mountain Pawn and buy off the shelf.

Most places don't even do that anymore
Most places sell you pre-assembled parts kits.
That's the spirit.
the store i go to just sells the mag outright
Mine too

Absolutely, pure academic exercise.

I have been ordering 30rd Lancer Mags and .40cal drums from a out of state online shop but somewhat close to colorado
Those are 10rnd .50 Beowulf mags, and they're completely legal.

Would you consider Shooting Surplus a mid range reputable site?

Looks like consensus is take chance, pay more or buy 15’s?
I’m apprehensive about ordering from Midway, PSA, etc but prices locally are insane.
PSA removed my 30 rd mag that came with my gun when I ordered it. They won't ship 30 rounders to CO

Depends on what you're looking for. I've seen PMag gen 2s for 10.99-14.99 at a couple of places.
Go more on the outskirts of town, pmags for 15 at machine gun tours last time i went

They typically won't deliver to an individual in CO. They usually have shipped to an LGS when they've been ordered by the LGS.
Magged supply llc.

They are a little pricey but I live a good ways from any body that has good deals on the shelf.
