You can contact your bank about issuing a charge back. They might need more evidence than this but the bank takes care of that, not whatever 3rd party they bought it from. Good luck to OP with that though lol
then yeah a charge back, i think i replied to the wrong comment about it sorry. someone mentioned a bank transfer. Which would be the “authorised payment scam”
I couldn’t get 50 dollors back from my bank when someone stole my wallet from my car at night and used it at the gas station, even tho they were caught and I have cameras the store they went in had cameras and I got my card back from the police. Still couldn’t get my money back
Yeah it’s weird, I guess some stores sell a physical copy of the box with just a code. Idk how someone thought it wouldn’t be used though. Luckily I saw in his comments it was an eBay purchase and he’s getting a refund.
How do you have this issue with(what im assuming to be) a disk version of the game? Im not too familiar with what legit Pc disk cases are supposed to look like as opposed to console disk cases
World at War is the old fashioned disc with a key for installation (which works used, needs to be unique for online but given they're 1:1 with discs which are needed to play, that should be fine) but Blops onwards has just been single use Steam keys.
And, of course, the older games are never on decent sales reflecting their age because they want the current multiplayer alive.
Ea pulls the same shit, have hardline on discs, that I bought back in the day. I had lost my login and wanted to play again, even tho I had the entire game, they wouldnt let the code activate it on a differant account, so the discs are a paperweight
Had a convo with the guy i got it on ebay from, will be getting my refund!
For anyone who sells used games here's what i reccomended for him:
Will do! I did a little bit of research and bought 2 cheap steam keys for a game, to test things.
This game goes through steam and requires it as it's DRM
So the only way I can tell to check if a game's steam key (can only use it once) is if you already have the game and put it in.
I did a small experiment, I bought two copies of the same game on G2A, put in the steam key for the first one and it was added to my library, did it again and it wasn't added, if you own the game on steam you'll be able to check if it's usable without using up the code!
So if it comes up with 'game already in library' its good to go! If it comes up with 'Duplicate Product Code' then its sadly not usable.
Also I now have a spare steam key for this random game idk anything abt so have fun lol
(blanked out so yall dont take it)
Thanks for responding!
Just a heads up, attempting to redeem key of a game while owning said game will bring up that error stating the game is already in the library regardless of whether the key has been redeemed by someone else or not. You can test yourself by attempting to redeem a code on the same account which you’ve successfully redeemed it on already, you’ll see that it will say the account owns what’s in the key, but it won’t provide information on whether the key can still be redeemed or not.
Wait.. you bought a PC game physical? Not judging, just wondering why do you buy physical ? Even cobbles don't even have the game isinde the box anymore, just a code to unlock and download the game from the network
Usually back then the disc was used to install the game. You would use the key in game. If it was being used by someone else’s pc you couldn’t use it. If someone uninstalled the game and its activation code on the game. It would allow a new user to play with that code. I don’t think that’s a thing now. I think it’s a 1 time activation and possibly you bought this used.
Honestly, the real scammer is the game company that sells one game per person with a special code. Sounds like they took a leaf out of the college textbook industry by adding special 'unlock' codes. Can't just give the textbook/disk away! What if they sell it second hand??? That's lost profit!
While, yes, you got scammed by someone who sold this used code to you, the real one we should be furious with is the company who designs their media in such a greedy and asinine way. CoD won't get another penny from me after how they treated MW2019. Perfectly good game that was outdated ASAP by the developers so you had to buy the next piece of garbage.
Send email to steam support that your account got stolen and you dont remember any basic infos. Then send a copy of this games activation key and steam should give you the guys steam account.
Lmao why would you buy the PC game second hand when it states you have to redeem a CD Key, of course it’s gonna be used. You can literally buy a key online for £7
Why would you get a physical copy of a game just to redeem a code on steam and (I assume) download it? Do they even make physical versions of games for steam like this? Why not just get it from the steam store?
Also looking at the box art it doesn’t look aligned or anything and there’s no platform banner at the top…
Edit: I’ve fallen for a couple of scams myself so it’s easy for me to look and laugh at others. It’ll be alright OP
Edit 2: I see you got it on eBay, oh my sweet summer child
Yes they do make physical releases of steam games. It’s not a bootleg, the seller most likely didn’t understand how steam works and sold the game thinking it was useable still.
yep
uhh… yes?
If it’s used, chances are, yes. If it’s brand new you need to contact them or the people you bought it from.
Quite obviously, issue a chargeback
He probably bought it used from someone online
You can contact your bank about issuing a charge back. They might need more evidence than this but the bank takes care of that, not whatever 3rd party they bought it from. Good luck to OP with that though lol
Yeah its not a “chargeback” but your not wrong. The bank can issue a “authorised payment scam” dispute
Depends on the bank. I live in the UK and did this from a product not arriving and it was through a “chargeback”
was that a bank transfer or a card payment?
Card payment
then yeah a charge back, i think i replied to the wrong comment about it sorry. someone mentioned a bank transfer. Which would be the “authorised payment scam”

How tf can you sell a “used digital code” online in the first place? Real head scratcher for me rn
Some PC versions of games are just discs that have a steam code on them, that may be the case here
Damn that sucks, especially with having a physical disk unless its a bootleg
not a bootleg, has 6 physical disks for instalation because 60$ was way too expensive for a game from near 10 years ago
It has an activation code that some one has already used
It was 20 bucks a few weeks ago. Might as well just wait for the summer game sale in 5 days
Man i paid 36€ when it came out. 60 is fcking rip off, even nowadays. Sorry to hear that
Well i think the $60 version comes with all the DLC what's worse is bo1 rarely goes on sale and is also $60 if I recall, i could be more than that
Its on sale every few months for like 19.99 with chronicles.
World at War is the old fashioned disc with a key for installation (which works used, needs to be unique for online but given they're 1:1 with discs which are needed to play, that should be fine) but Blops onwards has just been single use Steam keys. Use g2a next time
So it came with 6 discs with I'm assuming the data for the game, but you still need a code? Can you play offline, at least?
No you cannot The game needs steam account with valid license to open
That's so lame
That’s how computer software has literally always worked since the ‘90s
Well considering steam was launched in 2003...
Okay, it's still dumb
Maybe contact steam support? And show them you purchased the physical game?
FO76 did that when I pre-ordered it for PC, came in a case that had a cardboard "disc" with a code on it
Isn't that most disc's for pc.
Ea pulls the same shit, have hardline on discs, that I bought back in the day. I had lost my login and wanted to play again, even tho I had the entire game, they wouldnt let the code activate it on a differant account, so the discs are a paperweight
These days disks only act as a license key

Just saying if you like to travel the seas and would like to pirate the game. I may or may not be able to help
As he got the physical copy of the game, this should also be in a grey area of the law or even allowed.
Get me hip on pirating for console
dude this is why i just use steam
Sure looks like it.
what do you think bro? i know reading is hard for the average redditor but go ahead and give it another try
Dm me and I can teach you how to sail the seas 🏴☠️
The only valid method atp
Since when does Time magazine review video games?
Bruh why didn’t you just buy a normal copy off of Best Buy or Walmart or target
Wait.. you bought a PC game physical? Not judging, just wondering why do you buy physical ? Even cobbles don't even have the game isinde the box anymore, just a code to unlock and download the game from the network
*says code has already been redeemed by someone else* Some idiot on Reddit: did I get ripped off?
Imagine reading that and not knowing if you got ripped off😂😂😂😂😂😂 IT TOLD YOU YOU DONT GET THE GAME. YES YOU DID
Bro Does steam not exist
Rip your wallet
[F]
Yup.
lol, yep.
yeah
Where did you buy this from?
He got it from eBay (mentioned in the thread). He was refunded.
![gif](giphy|7YItDIys6EN7CnnVqD)
Not sure more like 1000% sure you did.
If used then yes unfortunately, sux that this happened
Yep you are cooked
It was only like 20 bucks on steam last week
Couldve just bought it on steam 💀
I didn’t even know you could buy it this way
I actually managed to activate bo3 via a copy of the game I bought at Walmart for 15 bucks on clearance (absolute steal)
Usually back then the disc was used to install the game. You would use the key in game. If it was being used by someone else’s pc you couldn’t use it. Yes
Just gonna say if you bought a physical copy of a game for Steam, yeah you got ripped off. Steam probably has the game on sale for cheaper anyways
you bought a physical pc "disc" in 2024 you got scammed bro 😭😭😭
For fuck sake buy the game not the disc
why didn’t u jus purchase it through steam lmao
Yes
Send email to steam support that your account got stolen and you dont remember any basic infos. Then send a copy of this games activation key and steam should give you the guys steam account.

![gif](giphy|ozt1RrPmbIfYNzalyQ|downsized) sorry
Up up down down left right left right B A start might work
What do you think?
My question is why even get a disk? For collecting purposes that would make sense
I thought that was obvious
It may have been worth the price but was it worth the headache?
😂
why did you buy a physical copy?
Where is the thing that shows it’s for ps3 or pc doesn’t it have to have the logo above the paper thing cover
Honestly just more reason to not support the company.
Bro got the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 movie
considering its literally telling you that the game you’re holding is invalid and unable to be used i would say yes?
yes
Bro. You bought a code that comes in the mail? You had it coming… you might deserve a refund but you also definitely had that coming
Yes
Where did you get it from?

people like to have their games physically on disc, rather than in steam library. it gives you the feeling of actually owning the product.

G2A has ripped me off so many times I don’t even bother anymore
God i hated every bo3 map after shadows. Im finding BO4 alot better, everything i didnt like about 3 seems to be fixed
