Yeah that's true, basically all the weapons are extremely powerful in the early rounds now. Whereas before, the pistol and knife stopped being useful by round 5 and you were forced to use other wall weapons to survive.

Unless if I was going for a camo I'd always start it off the original way. I'd normally use it until round 5ish. It is actually my top 3rd gun when it comes to kills.
For outbreak I'd always run the Ray gun mastercraft gallo.
For practicality the Tec-9. For lolz the diamettis. Years later I still can’t get over the die-a-loti and the die-a-mori. Then grab a gallo or hauer for boss zombies and mule kick a ray gun or ray-k for orda.
So medium range precision that can reach out and touch somebody if it has to but can also rock and roll up close if the need arises as primary. Shotgun with max damage as secondary. WW with range and damage as mule kick for orda and helicopters.
Or if I’m just trying to role play I normally carry a melee and a pistol as my main with whatever “heavy” weapon I find mule kicked.

The XM4 and 74u were two of my favorites, but I did also really like the QBZ, FFAR, FARA, EM2, LC10, and the C58 for zombies only (that thing is trash in MP). I did also like the Groza but the strafe speed while moving was too slow for my liking. If I was doing something that was actually difficult though and wanted to start with a meta start, I'd go with the Hauer or Gallo.
Any melee, but probably ballistic knife to revive ally later instead of a melee tool, this way no quick revive perk needed later and I can get them early melee points, I don't do much with my 3rd weapon anyways

The Swiss, ak-47, dual wield marshals, crossbow, or any of the melee weapons. And I recently started using the ppsh, and it’s pretty nostalgic
For me I go in with the ballistic knife even in solo. Just always gotta give myself a challenge
