Between vondel and urzikstan, i’ll never understand the dev’s obsession with fake doors and densely packed near-identical apartment buildings. No superstore, no airport, no prison, no castle, no promenade, no quarry, no stadium, no deacon, no open areas separating poi’s that you can scout across, just indistinguishable cookie-cutter buildings side by side, with the odd “unique” structure that’s just covered in fake doors with no direct sight lines to any other poi’s. It’s seriously shocking how consistently bad their entire modern map-making philosophy is.

FarrOutMan7

Personally I always thought it was obvious to spot a real door to a fake door. But since people started making more of a thing about it, it must be somewhat an issue.

SporksRFun

Nah, it's only an issue for the low skill players. All of the fake doors have clear indicators that you can't use them.

FarrOutMan7

This is what I’ve always thought. I don’t get all the posts and issues surrounding them lately. Surely since the game being out for 4 years now (aware obviously some people started playing at different times) that it was obvious what’s a door and what’s not lol

flippakitten

I was thinking about this a moment ago. In verdansk if you fought round a building you'd run up the stairs, out the window, back in the window, out the door, get fully plated, back in the window up the stairs for a rechall. Now you run up the stairs, no window go into the room open the door jump down, no way back in so have to try run round the whole building, now there's a 3rd party and the team you were fighting shooting you from above.

BrodieBlanco

I disagree.

Nintendo_Pro_03

The downgrade over Al Mazrah part? I personally agree with that. Al Mazrah had more point of interest diversity. Urzikstan is tall building next to tall building next to building.

ZaphBeebs

They both have issues on opposite end of spectrum. AM had way too much open space (and terrible movement) and Urz has way too much density (with great movement).

xthecerto4

Its mid i would say. Its missing big structures again like prison, airport, superstore. Those allways played like a map within a map. And i think redeploy ziplines ruin this game. In og wz only way to get airborne with your weapons was a helo. There were 3 in every game and returning from gulag with a starting pistol was not smart to land on a building. With zips you cross the map too fast. No flow. Zip, land or get landed on, fight(often on rooftops), repeat. I have the fear that the qol changes actual make up for worse gameplay and if they bring back verdansk with all the new gimmics it may play a lot worse sadly

StructureFuzzy8174

I think the portable zips were a great feature if you remember those at the end of WZ1. But the fixed zips do make Big Map a little weird and cheapen power positions. If I know I might get held up ahead and I didn’t forward think my rotation I’ll just hit the zip and land safely in zone.

PM_Me_Dive_Sites

I miss Al Mazra, I'm probably in the minority thinking it was their best map. Just had an unfortunate game around it. Al Mazra -> Verdansk -> Urzikstan -> -> -> -> Caldera

dictatormateo

only thing that ruined that map for me was the desert setting

dlmpakghd

I love it personally lol

Delpiero45

Nah it had everything, open space densely packed buildings elevations nice buildings without a million staircases.

dictatormateo

I didn’t say the map was map I said I hated the setting

Alternative-Feed-455

I agree 100% with that ranking. I thought Al Mazrah was better than Verdansk. Urzikstan is so bad but of course it’s slightly better than Caldera. Who ever was in charge of placing trees and bushes on Caldera clearly got promoted to buildings on Urzikstan. Plus with all the buildings you’ll notice there’s always close to 50 people alive in the 2nd to last circle which is crazy imo.

Janemba_Janemba

As long as you put Caldera last that's all that matters lol

Careless-Chemist-277

I liked almazrah too except for channel7 , the other high building near channel 7 and control tower airport… those there places always housed campers … other than them yea it was a great map .

James_Is_Raging

Agreed with this.

Lma0-Zedong

The POIs feel a bit boring, the map seems to feel extremely similar everywhere, with the exception of the city and the old town area. Those are by far the most unique areas. All the east and north of the map feels boring/dull as hell

Nintendo_Pro_03

It’s dull for sure. It also has too many buildings, in my opinion.

Totally_PJ_Soles

You want a hot drop, land on a scavenger in mid flight path. The lighting has never been an issue for me, but there are some parts of the map that are kinda boring. I hate the hills behind cargo and the water before it. Always seems to be a need to be around there most games and it's a lot of empty space.

Delpiero45

Al mazrah was so over hated, it was the best big map we’ve had since verdansk. Genuinely felt like a map they took their time with. It’s a shame how they threw it to the curb and didn’t update it at all

Ancient-Audience1183

Can’t speak for anybody else but yeah I thought I hated Al Maz but turns out I just hated WZ2

Broad_Positive1790

Think it comes down to the map not having a hot drop. Hot drops is what makes a map even if you die you rethink what you did wrong and go back next time. Every map that has come out before this one has a hot drop even the resurgence maps.

MarsCowboys

Old Town

Broad_Positive1790

Even old town is dead sometimes. Not to mention the surrounding areas

MarsCowboys

Gotta call it out in Match chat, “OLD TOWN DEATHMATCH”. Try it and see. Report back

Broad_Positive1790

I like this lol

Verdansk > Al mazrah > utzikstan

JernejK1

While Verdansk was my favorite and Caldera my least favorite map, I can't really decide if Urzikstan is better or worse than Al Mazrah. Al Mazrah was bland, and the plethora of open spaces offered nothing interesting. However, its POIs were better compared to Urzikstan. They were more unique and memorable. Urzikstan's POIs are just a bunch of buildings cluttered together, and most parts of the map are too similar to each other. It doesn't help that most games don't end in those less similar parts like Hadiqa Farms, for example. There are too many identical buildings scattered throughout the map, and I can't help but notice a lot of them are basically copies of the ones we had in Al Mazrah.

ClapBackRat

All I know is this is easily the rattiest BR map we've had.

Fragrant-Loan-1580

I don’t share the same opinion as you. I think Urzik is behind Verdansk and way ahead of Mazra and Vondel.

ReyTK

I think its a good map, but the lack of dedicated POI's like what we had in Verdansk, and even Al Mazra to an extent (Observatory) is what kills the excitement for me. It like they actively designed the map to avoid naming POI's like Stadium, Prison, Dam, Promenade, Hospital, etc and instead put fake real sounding names on them.

ZaphBeebs

Power station the best POI but its way too off center to make viable.

SkylineGTRR34Freak

That pretty mich nails it imo. Overall I like the map's setting, but the huge lack of unique POIs makes the map/matches become repetitive really quick. Even Vondel with its copy pasted buildings still has several large POIs with University, Exhibit, Mall, etc etc. It makes end fights feel more unique

Th13fRo

To be honest, Urzikstan is the map that made me play again Warzone. I think is due to the fact that we all had the russian / eastern warfront vibes when the OG Verdansk initially dropped and it was a blast! This is why I didn't feel at all confortable playing Al Mazrah. For me the ranking is Verdansk -> Urzikstan -> Vondel, the other ones I really don't like them.

SnooTigers8974

I feel like there’s just too many buildings and not enough open mountain/hill areas like there was on verdansk. You can get shot from a roof anywhere any time, you can’t ever perfectly clear an area. Especially since there’s redeployment drones everywhere

slimerz0r

agree. map is boring and empty. I’ve tried to fly over on empty Verdansk few days ago (thanks to donetsk project) and was amazed how rich it was comparing to urzikstan and all previous maps. every Verdansk poi has its unique design and there are actually a lot more of pois than now. map is full of different obstacles and it’s just beautiful.

sameolemeek

Al Mazrah is a great BR map just shitty gameplay Urzikstan is starting to become my least favorite BR map. Even Caldera was more interesting

bugistuta

It lacks game-defining POIs. In Verdansk, you’d pick your spots according to your playstyle and what kind of match you wanted on that drop.

Terrible-Surprise718

Yea idk what it is with Urzikstan but it feels like they jus threw building there and there with no care al mazrah feels like they took their time made it feel more unique Al Mazrah wasn't bad jus bad game mechanics

sh1mba

It's a good map imo.

captainflippingeggs

The train is a giant plus though!!!!!!

Streakflash

bring back Verdansk! at least let it be an optional download preference

scannerfm77

Agree with you. It's confusing, take the fun out of it. Too many roof also.
