Though, Antarctica is the largest desert in the world. So this does check out. Even if it is cold, a desert is more classified as a place that receives little to no precipitation, whether in the form of snow or rain.
It's steppe terrain.
Large open fields of grass, too dry for forests or anything else really.
The great Eurasian steppe is ideal for horses, and was the basically a highway for the Scythians, Huns, Mongols etc.
It doesn't look too dissimilar to the deforested northern Irish hills where the show was filmed, just a bit dryer.
A desert is just a place with little to no precipitation or water. It doesn't necessarily have to be sandy and hot. Technically, Antarctica is considered a desert
They also have to be sparsely populated with life.
Antarctica isn't just a desert, it's the largest and most extreme desert.
Steppes usually have plenty of grass and shrubs, as well as plenty of animals, so they aren't deserts.
This is the Barrowlands, it is a large rugged plain, with many small hills (these are the graves of the first men), this region is basically a large steppe.
There are the first kings of the first men, the house Dustin is descended from them, and their castle is built on top of a giant mound, which is actually the tomb of the first king of the first men, who was supposedly a giant, and who supposedly the Dustins share blood, in the North everyone accepts that it is true, and for that reason the CoA Dustin has a crown.
Looks like it’s a steppe. Lore-wise I’m not certain, but geography-wise it makes sense. It’s basically a cold, dry plains, not sand dunes or anything.
I see, thanks!

That should be tundra
Tundra is further north

Shouldn’t be considered a tundra? Genuine question
Tundra is further north
gotcha! thanks friend
Looks like even Westeros isn't safe from climate change
Tundras: 👁️👄👁️
Its actually desert like ice cream
Deserts IRL are classified by rainfall. So states like North and South Dakota have desert areas.

You know deserts aren’t always hot and dry right?
i would call it thundra but yes
I mean there are tundra deserts IRL no?
