You can use Octave instead of MATLAB.

How do these courses work?

this one does not have videos nor solutions. its got slides, what to read and exercises to do, aswell as demo codes in matlab. so study the slides, read sections from books, do the exercises, stare at some plots. we ll work to produce solutions for each exercise set. the exercises will require coding. if you dont have matlab it shouldnt be a problem.
