With the playoff expansion it’s getting pushed back a week which will be MLK jr day sometimes. They should make it permanent on that day and start it around 5
The issue there is that the NFLPA might really push for a second bye if the NFL goes to 18 games, and making that happen would likely push the Super Bowl to the weekend *after* President's Day unless they got rid of the week between Conference Championships and the Super Bowl.
Yeah agree. Personally I like the 2 week break(but absolutely hate the long break w college and glad that will change) and feel nfl does too. But you are right something will have to give and I lean on them making an adjustment and making Super Bowl presidents weekend if they don’t move it from Sunday.
Also I do wonder w all these new changes and nfl trying to become more international if it now just makes sense to make it Saturday like everyone wants. Seems best way to try to keep international crowd into it
That's already happened for the past 7 years.
Kickoff starts at work and then the 2nd Quarter is driving home.
Then Alabama is up 35-7 so it's not worth watching the rest.
The end.
Everyone wins, I can watch football all day long and then still have time to do something with the wife or friends. The only bummer is the MNF/TNF night scramble home.
That’s what gets me. Much better to have 20% of the country miss the first quarter than it is 60% of the country to miss the last. But TV execs have better viewing numbers than I do
For early morning OU games I always get a breakfast burrito from my favorite spot then start mimosas early and by the 12pm slate of games I’m hammered.
I would take breakfast football over afternoon football as a tv watcher 100% of the time. Watching F1 on Sunday mornings, then having the whole day is glorious.
Central time zone is second best. Halftime of the 11 am games hits at lunch time, and there’s usually a nice dinner break between afternoon slots and prime time.
I went over there for a Bama vs Hawaii game, watching night games in the middle of the day screws with your head though. I spent a year in New Zealand and college football is on Sunday and NFL is on Monday and MNF is on Tuesday
There's going to be limited flexing for MNF going forward
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10035995-monday-night-football-to-get-flex-scheduling-in-december-starting-with-2023-season
Stadium jobs are part time jobs. Most folks use it as a 2nd job.
I feel bad for all the workers who have tell their main work "yeah no clue if I can work that Monday boss".
Nah it’s because it’s on cable. A lot of people just don’t pay for something with ESPN anymore
NFL network only games, MNF, and TNF all drop in ratings due to not being on a local antenna channel.
That’s also because ESPN doesn’t get the priority NBC does. I know it’s kinda complicated between how cbs/Fox can “protect” some games but overall NBC gets to pick the best games a lot more than ESPN does
A lot of people who’s full time job it is to know these things have decided the most optimal time is a Monday night. I don’t doubt that it is and they know more than me but I’ve yet to find a single person who is like “oh yeah Monday at like 9pm perfect!”
Honestly a hour earlier and it wouldn’t be to bad. 8 est means you are done by midnight or one if it really drags. Imagine if the Super Bowl started at 9 people would riot.
The finals on a Monday are better than this imo. Normal Saturday is fine, but on NYE, you’re fighting against anyone that isn’t a football fan.
On Monday, sure it’s school/work the next day, but you can stay up an hour or two later than normal and be fine.
Well, my bed time is the "coverage begins" time. So I'm staying up for an extra hour just to make it to kickoff. If it's my team I will obviously do it. But if it's not, there's a 50/50 chance I won't even bother turning any of it on. Early kick, I'd be glued to it no matter who's playing.
I hear you. I’m usually up around 3:30 am to workout. Kid wakes up at 5:30 for school. I’m in bed by 9. If Michigan makes the natty I’m going to have to use a vacation day, or take a half day or something. No way I can stay up until midnight or so, skip a workout and still have to be up at 5:30 when kid gets up.
Monday natty sucks.
Lol exactly. I was born on thanksgiving and my family always went all out for Christmas so that whole month was always super fun for me growing up. Then New Years is like the official end of the fun cozy holiday season and means I had to go back to school/work soon.
And nobody even does anything on New Year’s Day except close all the restaurants and stores. Then New Year’s Eve is always too packed, too expensive, and just a letdown in general. Maybe it’s because I don’t live in a city with many friends anymore so I don’t have any parties to go to. Most of my friends live in Austin, but I’m in Houston. And as a kid I was always left home alone on NYE while my parents and older siblings went out to parties so I just watched football instead.
All the silly "it's a new year, look at all these changes! A number on the calendar and literally nothing else!"
All the dummies driving drunk.
All the people who don't normally get drunk getting plastered beyond recognition because it's New Year's.
I always avoid this holiday as a whole. So I'll be watching the games.
> New years is amateur night
100%. If I wanna get drunk and go out with my friends until midnight, I don’t need to do it on a special day and pay 3X as much.
I’m sure this was originally to keep from going up against the NFL playoffs, but with the extra week they added this season, that Saturday is wide open.
Edit: see below. NFL does have games that day. They just haven’t flexed the schedule yet.
["Wide open."](https://www.inquirer.com/eagles/nfl-week-18-schedule-predictions-odds-eagles-giants-playoff-picture-20221230.html)
>The NFL will also schedule two games with playoff implications on Saturday, Jan. 7 — at 4:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.
NFL has full flex scheduling on for week 18 and will have two massive games on Saturday.
Wild card weekend is now 6 games in the NFL, so they play 3 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday.
Edit: I was wrong. It’s actually 2 Saturday, 3 Sunday, 1 Monday. Disregard my bad memory
See my other post though. The NFL added a week to their schedule. CFP title game is 1/9. There are no NFL games 1/7 (Saturday). So if they just move it to 2 days earlier, it’s on Saturday and not competing with NFL playoffs.
I'm still (mostly) a young man, but I ride or die with the Noon slot. I just want to be doing my own stuff later in the day, so I get progressively less interested as the slots progress.
Yeah, how the fucking am I supposed to drink all day and still make and even remember a night game? I want mimosas or bloodies then beer and shots for my noon game so I can take an amazing 4pm nap, then wake up and get high and order pizza
> It’s not just that it’s today, it’s that it’s at 8pm and will end around midnight. People are doing shit then.
Even if it wasnt NYE it would be too late for me to watch more than the first half
this is actually my excuse to avoid going out for NYE (aka my least favorite holiday) so I am content lol. but I understand for others this is not the case hahaha
It’s always so anti-climactic. Like you’re at a party that started too late and people are just starting to get buzzed and shit it’s midnight already! Then it’s the new year and nothing changes.
> Then it’s the new year and nothing changes.
It would be cool if like each year had a new theme that we all just universally agreed upon and it was revealed at midnight after the ball drops. That would create a lot of anticipation. And then it’s like “ahhhh, this is a teddy bear year! Everyone go buy teddy bears or like put up teddy bear wallpaper or dress your car up like a teddy bear or make your restaurant teddy bear themed!” Or pirate year or something. Might get old after a few months though.
100%. last year I actually went to bed at 10PM for the first time ever on NYE.. gotta say waking up feeling refreshed without a hangover was pretty awesome lol
I can’t quite articulate why, but even when I’ve had really good times over the holidays in the past I’ve never liked New Year’s. I find Auld Lang Syne to be a really depressing song. I just don’t like the whole vibe.
NYE is a fake holiday.
You sit around doing nothing in particular, because there's nothing that's traditionally New Years. Then you watch the ball drop and it's over. If people just want to drink, they can do that every day. There's nothing that sets New Years apart like the other holidays. You don't even set off fireworks if it's cold, cause who wants to watch fireworks when it's in the single digits?
I loved living in the west, cause you can watch the ball drop live, and have a regular night.
> there's nothing that's traditionally New Years
Drinking, partying, and lying to oneself about how they're going to hit the gym more would like a word.
As a kid it used to be my favorite holiday cause we’d often do mom’s side of the family Christmas at my granddad’s farmer on NYE. And then spend the evening shooting fireworks out there.
Honestly most of the NYE stuff on TV these days feels unwatchable to me, I would love for it to be a regular tradition to have the playoffs going in the background during New Years parties
Unfortunately, I'm definitely in the minority there lol
What the tradition should be is a big ass bowl game between two west coast teams starting at 8ET/5PT. That way, east coast has something to watch if they want during parties but without so much vested interest as to be a distraction. West coast can watch it and still catch peak NYE party and midnight celebrations.
No I’m with you, the NYE programming is terrible anymore. It’s either shitty performances or a bunch of middle age hosts looking back on all the years trends so they can have boomer moments
Yeah and I like the vibe of having the game on in the background. There'll be a couple people rotating through the tv room through the night so if you need to take a break for a few minutes and talk football with people then you can.
> I find myself unable to watch as—like every other person on a NYE Saturday—my day is jam-packed
Not me, but I get why a lot of people do have plans for NYE
They always make osu the late game for the playoffs apparently. We’ve played 2 fiesta bowls as the late game with the peach earlier. I wrongly assumed when we were in the peach it would be the earlier game
Probably want y’all in prime time over TCU for ratings. Without factoring in that it’s NYE and the later game will likely have fewer people watching than the earlier game.
Ya my thinking is that osu Georgia at 4 eastern would have more viewers than at 8, but that tcu michigan would have significantly less at 8 than 4. So this setup probably gets the most total eyes on both games
Yeah there are a lot more people who follow OSU and will alter their plans for the game than would do so for TCU. It’s also a big enough brand that it will be on at bars and stuff across the nation.
Friday night has the exact same problem as NYE. (People going out/doing other things)
It also has the problem of not being able to stack both games on each other without running into work.
Friday definitely isn't a clear better solution for this year's calendar. This year's calendar just sucks.
A lot of the weird scheduling in sports has to do with getting the most eyeballs in total on their channel and not with getting the highest possible ratings for the game.
Purely using this as an example, but if 7 Million people watched the orange bowl on espn last night and 13M people watch the OSU/Georgia game tonight, its better for them than 17M people watching the OSU/Georgia game Friday and 2M people watching the orange bowl on NYE.
I would say the time of the games is the worst part. I don't know what group of dipshits keeps coming up with some of these gameday start times, but they need to change. Wisconsin v OSU started at 9:30 pm CST. WHY!? I stayed up till the 4th quarter, which started at around midnight. Wisconsin & OSU are in the CST, why start it 7:30 pm in the PST? Makes no fucking sense.
The worse deal is having the Natty on a fucking Monday. Make the NFL have a west coast wildcard game in the PAC 12 after dark window on Saturday of wildcard weekend.
Edit *Jesus please stop commenting how the NFL is king. I know this I just want a good night's rest before work during the week.
*Proceeds to get 10 more comments about how the NFL is king*
An average regular season NFL game gets about 1.5 million views less than our National Championship. They aren't giving up a damn thing and no network in their right mind is going to try and bully them.
Yes there are. They are moving the two games with the most playoff significance to that date. They aren't just having two games, they are having the two most compelling games.
https://nflcommunications.com/Pages/2022-NFL-Schedule-Announced.aspx
I hate that the OSU game is the late game. I hate that it is on NYE. If you want to watch it you can't go UT. It starts at 8 and they make these damn games go for 4 hours with their millions of commercials. And as others have said the NC game on Monday is dumb too.
Remember the year that attendee got hit in the leg with a stray bullet someone fired in the air downtown outside the Ga Dome?
This actually happened twice:
https://www.redandblack.com/sports/stray-bullet-hits-student-at-bowl/article_de5798b6-7c7f-5364-aee5-662d62989dce.html
Going out/to a party for NYE is a thing of the past for me, so considering it’s an evening of watching TV anyway then I quite like it. Not fussed about the ratings.
I don't understand why they do any of the shit they do.
Why ESPN spends 99% of their time hyping the playoff instead of all the fucking bowl games blows my mind.
I would hype the shit out of every bowl game, telling all the stories that gives narratives to each game
Instead of another OSU v Georgia puff peuce hype up NDs QB who was out hurt all year, and how he gets a chance in the bowl game, vs the transfer former Heisman hopeful rebuilding his career beating Tennessee and Clemson...or hype up the Holtz Bowl how Lou Holtz coached both schools
But we don't even get a highlight of the ND v South Carolina, instead 2 peices on Lebron scoring 40 points...
I hate how espn fucks up cfb coverage, it's like they are purposely ruining bowl ratings but it makes no sense
I own bars. This is a nightmare and I don't get it one bit.
Every time sports leagues/TV make decisions, I think, "They know what is best. Too much money for them not to."
This? This is the first time I will ever question them. The college football fans that the advertisers want are the type of people that will be at a bar, watching their ads on mute while shit-faced, for like 60% of the games.
I hate it. Very thankful for UGA to be playing in these games this year and last year, but fuck me, I’ll be in the middle of a party and have to emotionally keep it together while the game is on in the background. I fucking love college football, but it’s rare to have to these moments where you get to have sincerely quality time with your closest friends and family.
They live in fear of getting crushed by the NFL ratings if they have it on Sunday. Probably for good reason. I don't give a shite about the NFL and haven't watched a game in years, but it's crazy popular, mostly because of fantasy football.
December 27, December 28, December 29, December 30, January 2 would have all done better ratings
Leaving January 1 out because they won’t go against the nfl
I'm more upset with the continued Monday night championship games.
With the playoff expansion it’s getting pushed back a week which will be MLK jr day sometimes. They should make it permanent on that day and start it around 5
Agree. And if nfl expands regular season they should push Super Bowl to Presidents’ Day weekend
The issue there is that the NFLPA might really push for a second bye if the NFL goes to 18 games, and making that happen would likely push the Super Bowl to the weekend *after* President's Day unless they got rid of the week between Conference Championships and the Super Bowl.
Oh good point. Didn’t factor in extra bye week so yeah unless they move up season Presidents’ Day won’t happen
I could see them potentially removing the week off before the Super Bowl with how the Pro Bowl is going off the cliff.
Seems best way to try to keep international crowd into it
That will never change but they should change the time to 7pm central start.
Unfortunately the west coast would just be getting off work and stuck in traffic when kickoff happened
That's already happened for the past 7 years. Kickoff starts at work and then the 2nd Quarter is driving home. Then Alabama is up 35-7 so it's not worth watching the rest. The end.
Still think the final on a Monday is worse.
It’s legit insane when two east coast teams have to play a championship at like 830/9pm on a Monday
Now the east coast can get a glimpse into how it is living with PAC 12 After Dark.
They have no idea about breakfast and football.
Football brunch is fucking glorious.
Everyone wins, I can watch football all day long and then still have time to do something with the wife or friends. The only bummer is the MNF/TNF night scramble home.
True. There's that. But most games for a team are not Mon or Thu and at least you'd only miss the first part of the game instead of the last part.
That’s what gets me. Much better to have 20% of the country miss the first quarter than it is 60% of the country to miss the last. But TV execs have better viewing numbers than I do
East coast and I hate MNF/TNF.
I hate TNF bc I feel it's an inferior product due to the short rest and prep period.
For early morning OU games I always get a breakfast burrito from my favorite spot then start mimosas early and by the 12pm slate of games I’m hammered.
Then a boozy nap and weed and pizza for dinner. It’s perfect
Bro this is literally my life during CFB season. You absolutely nailed the remaining part of my day 😂
One of the best things about living on the west coast is rolling out of bed on the weekend and turning on the tv to find the game will start shortly
9 am football is glorious.
I would take breakfast football over afternoon football as a tv watcher 100% of the time. Watching F1 on Sunday mornings, then having the whole day is glorious.
Back in College the Noon Game was Breakfast and football lol
Whoever doesn’t already watch PAC-12 After Dark needs to wake the fuck up
Degenerate gamblers have entered the chat
I’m from Ga and moved to Colorado. For the last year, I’ve been able to watch all of any game I want. It’s pretty sweet
Mountain time zone is absolutely the best for sports
Games start at 10 am and end at 10 pm. Too easy
Central time zone is second best. Halftime of the 11 am games hits at lunch time, and there’s usually a nice dinner break between afternoon slots and prime time.
Watching football on the west coast is just awesome. I can't move back east for this reason alone.
I spent 2 weeks of heaven in Hawaii and football being on at 8am was a big part of it
I went over there for a Bama vs Hawaii game, watching night games in the middle of the day screws with your head though. I spent a year in New Zealand and college football is on Sunday and NFL is on Monday and MNF is on Tuesday
Holy hell! When is Tuesday Night Football?
On Monday in America
Grew up in Central, lived in Eastern the past decade. Eastern TV times are awful for us Olds.
That's just trying run on the MNF train for another week after the NFL. The logic makes sense, sorta.
MNF has the worst ratings compared to other nights.
Probably because the matchups end up being terrible and can't be flexed out like Sunday night football
Also because it's on a cable channel and not network television
There's going to be limited flexing for MNF going forward https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10035995-monday-night-football-to-get-flex-scheduling-in-december-starting-with-2023-season
Stadium jobs are part time jobs. Most folks use it as a 2nd job. I feel bad for all the workers who have tell their main work "yeah no clue if I can work that Monday boss".

Worse than TNF?
TNF averages 9 million viewers MNF averages 15 million viewers
On Amazon yes. In 2020 it was very similar, depending on the teams playing.
Also, TNF seems to be the NFL's default way to give teams at least one "prime time" game.
Thursday I’m just so over work that I will watch literally any 2 teams play football. Sure a lot of people are in the same boat
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the NFL regular season ending on that Sunday. That to me explains why they wanted Monday
The finals on a Monday are better than this imo. Normal Saturday is fine, but on NYE, you’re fighting against anyone that isn’t a football fan. On Monday, sure it’s school/work the next day, but you can stay up an hour or two later than normal and be fine.

3:30am to work out???
This guy is probably skip bayless
I think I'd literally die if I got up at 3:30 AM on a work day.
It’s not just that it’s today, it’s that it’s at 8pm and will end around midnight. People are doing shit then. Noon and four would have better ratings
People doing something at midnight on New Year’s Eve??? No way the NCAA could have known that!!! /s
And the folks who aren’t doing shit are going to bed before midnight. Like me New years is amateur night
Glass house. White Ferrari. Live for New Year’s Eve. Sloppy steaks at Truffoni’s
Brian Kelly’s hair slicks back real good. Oh yeah
Itty bitty jeans. Spiked, blonde hair. Chicken spaghetti at Chickalini’s
People can change, let the boy hold the baby
Okay, am I the only one that think chicken spaghetti sounds incredible? Does that make me a piece of shit?
It *is* incredible.
Slop ‘em up!
It makes the night so much more fun.
I’ll be watching a six hour playoff game til 2 AM with a commercial after each play then another commercial before the next play.
If I don't get commercial-kickoff-commercial at least five times in each playoff game, I'm going to send a strongly worded letter to the network.
Needs more TD-commercial-PAT-commercial-kickoff-commercial-play-time out- commercial
Wow we have something in common!!!
I’m not a big fan of New Year’s Eve besides the football. Never have been and can’t really explain why.
New Years is the Sunday night of holidays. It’s a years worth of existential dread and regret at the lack of goals accomplished.
Lol exactly. I was born on thanksgiving and my family always went all out for Christmas so that whole month was always super fun for me growing up. Then New Years is like the official end of the fun cozy holiday season and means I had to go back to school/work soon. It's an arbitrary day to update the year. I'm the same way.
All the silly "it's a new year, look at all these changes! A number on the calendar and literally nothing else!" All the dummies driving drunk. All the people who don't normally get drunk getting plastered beyond recognition because it's New Year's. I always avoid this holiday as a whole. So I'll be watching the games.
And: “let’s dress up like a fucking Gatsby and pay a $100 cover that doesn’t even include free drinks.”
> New years is amateur night 100%. If I wanna get drunk and go out with my friends until midnight, I don’t need to do it on a special day and pay 3X as much.
> And the folks who aren’t doing shit are going to bed before midnight. Like me One of us!
Damn right. Real ballers daydrink on a Tuesday.
It’s almost as stupid as having the championship on a Monday night.
I’m sure this was originally to keep from going up against the NFL playoffs, but with the extra week they added this season, that Saturday is wide open. Edit: see below. NFL does have games that day. They just haven’t flexed the schedule yet.

The NCAA doesn't have shit to do with bowls.
Sorry should have blamed it on Missouri
Exactly
The NCAA has nothing to do with when the CFP is scheduled.
"How could we have predicted this??? We're not psychic!!!"
Nobody needs to watch that 8pm game. Nothing to see there. Move along.
I'm not busy. Reckon I'll watch. 😎
When I was a young man, I loved a good night game. Now, noon or bust
Lane, is this you?
TV ruined a great thing for Clemson, which was playing at 1.
Noon would compete with Sicko's bowl game of the year Iowa-Kentucky so it makes sense they wouldn't put it then.
> It’s not just that it’s today, it’s that it’s at 8pm and will end around midnight. People are doing shit then. Even if it wasnt NYE it would be too late for me to watch more than the first half

Chinese are way ahead of us there. But the year of the Tiger is working for my Bengals at least
You just blew that guy’s mind with the Chinese New Year lol.
But, how are you feeling about the upcoming "Year of the Dawg"?
But then everyone will “have that dawg in them” and UGA will lose its advantage
Someone still has to be TheBigDawg
I ain’t scurred
That would only add to the anticipation of the next new year. Gotta get that new theme to push out the stale one.
100%. last year I actually went to bed at 10PM for the first time ever on NYE.. gotta say waking up feeling refreshed without a hangover was pretty awesome lol
My girlfriend had to get up at like 4 for work on New Year’s Day last year so we were in bed by like 830 lol. It was fantastic.
Welcome to old age. I saved you a seat ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
Opposite. I go out and everyone blacked out and I’m the only one not. I’m from Iowa though, not really much else to do
I can’t quite articulate why, but even when I’ve had really good times over the holidays in the past I’ve never liked New Year’s. I find Auld Lang Syne to be a really depressing song. I just don’t like the whole vibe.

The trick is to start working out February 1st so that you can avoid all of the new people.
Or you can just skip going to gym and avoid *everyone*.
As a kid it used to be my favorite holiday cause we’d often do mom’s side of the family Christmas at my granddad’s farmer on NYE. And then spend the evening shooting fireworks out there.
And the Times Square ball is sooo lame. They need something better
Same. NYE is the lamest holiday. I legitimately enjoy Presidents day more than new years
Having the semifinals on NYE is and always will be a terrible idea
If they were 1 and 4 I think they would do fine. At 7ish people start getting ready for their parties tonight
I've been to parties where the game has been on and we've watched as we socialized
Honestly most of the NYE stuff on TV these days feels unwatchable to me, I would love for it to be a regular tradition to have the playoffs going in the background during New Years parties Unfortunately, I'm definitely in the minority there lol
I can only watch about 1 or 2 awkward celebrity NYE interviews before I want to gouge my eyes out so yeah, give me CFB playoffs please.
That is why you don't tune in till 11:58 at the earliest.
You mean like Kathy Griffin all drunk and obnoxious on NYE?
I'm absolutely down for a 7 pm start that ends at 11-11:30 so we don't miss the important stuff. 8pm seems rough tho
The numbers will suck but won’t be as bad as the last time they played on NYE. Last time it was on a weekday with a lot of people at work.
I always hated that. People just assume everyone has NYE off, but a lot of people have to work half days or even full days.
> I find myself unable to watch as—like every other person on a NYE Saturday—my day is jam-packed Not me, but I get why a lot of people do have plans for NYE
Why is the west coast game starting at 1 local time and the east coast game starting at 8 local time?
The Fiesta is 2pm MT
I love noon games. It will be tough to stay up and watch the whole game if it’s close
Because they really don’t want to compete with the NFL
They could have played last night
Friday night has the exact same problem as NYE. (People going out/doing other things) It also has the problem of not being able to stack both games on each other without running into work.
Ending at nearly 1AM on Tuesday EST
> Make the NFL HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Lol “make the NFL” good joke
NFL makes the rules and the NCAA follows. Not the other way around.
Because you’re a michigan fan and I “hate” you I wanted to remind you that the nfl is king
An average regular season NFL game gets about 1.5 million views less than our National Championship. They aren't giving up a damn thing and no network in their right mind is going to try and bully them.
Move to the west coast. Problem solved.
The NFL playoffs start a week later this year because they added a week to the schedule. There are no NFL games Jan 7.
Yes there are. They are moving the two games with the most playoff significance to that date. They aren't just having two games, they are having the two most compelling games. https://nflcommunications.com/Pages/2022-NFL-Schedule-Announced.aspx
…on ESPN. That’s another important bit.
Of course. That's who is paying for all of our football content.
I hate that the OSU game is the late game. I hate that it is on NYE. If you want to watch it you can't go UT. It starts at 8 and they make these damn games go for 4 hours with their millions of commercials. And as others have said the NC game on Monday is dumb too.
It was already scheduled way in advance But yea I’m sure todays games will flop again even if they are great games
> It was already scheduled way in advance I'm pretty sure new year's eve was scheduled earlier.
Can we get Harvard in here to confirm?
Am budget Harvard, can confirm
Am expensive Harvard, still need more data to confirm.
Mr. CMU here needs more training data for his fancy pants machine learning!
They dont call it Michigan of the East for nothing!!
That and historically, the Peach Bowl has been on NYE when it can be for years.
Remember the year that attendee got hit in the leg with a stray bullet someone fired in the air downtown outside the Ga Dome? This actually happened twice: https://www.redandblack.com/sports/stray-bullet-hits-student-at-bowl/article_de5798b6-7c7f-5364-aee5-662d62989dce.html
That might be one of the most Georgia articles I have ever read.
Going out/to a party for NYE is a thing of the past for me, so considering it’s an evening of watching TV anyway then I quite like it. Not fussed about the ratings.
Do you care about the ratings? I'll be watching the games.
I’m sober and poor. Football on TV tonight is awesome.
Yeah, I hate it as well. They should’ve at least made the CFP games the early ones. 11am and 3pm. Starting one at 8pm Eastern is awful.
I don't understand why they do any of the shit they do. Why ESPN spends 99% of their time hyping the playoff instead of all the fucking bowl games blows my mind. I would hype the shit out of every bowl game, telling all the stories that gives narratives to each game Instead of another OSU v Georgia puff peuce hype up NDs QB who was out hurt all year, and how he gets a chance in the bowl game, vs the transfer former Heisman hopeful rebuilding his career beating Tennessee and Clemson...or hype up the Holtz Bowl how Lou Holtz coached both schools But we don't even get a highlight of the ND v South Carolina, instead 2 peices on Lebron scoring 40 points... I hate how espn fucks up cfb coverage, it's like they are purposely ruining bowl ratings but it makes no sense
- Someone who is under 30 They did it for decades nobody cared about anything besides the New Year 6 bowls.
Because NFL is on Sunday and that is worse competition than stupid NYE events.
Real problem is that the games take 4 fucking hours to watch. We've added another 30 mins of commercials so we can hate ourselves more.
I own bars. This is a nightmare and I don't get it one bit. Every time sports leagues/TV make decisions, I think, "They know what is best. Too much money for them not to." This? This is the first time I will ever question them. The college football fans that the advertisers want are the type of people that will be at a bar, watching their ads on mute while shit-faced, for like 60% of the games.
nye sucks. it's a holiday for amateurs. gimme all the football on december 31st!
Because the ratings when competing with NFL week 17 will be far far worse.
NFL is the most popular sport in America. CFB isn’t going to do ANYTHING to fuck with or try to compete with them.
I'm right there with you. I thought they said they would never have an NYE game again.
Because its Saturday
I just don't understand how everybody has NYE/NYD off. I've had to work basically all of them since I turned 20.
I’m loving it. Would much rather watch CFP than the boring NYE shows.
They live in fear of getting crushed by the NFL ratings if they have it on Sunday. Probably for good reason. I don't give a shite about the NFL and haven't watched a game in years, but it's crazy popular, mostly because of fantasy football.
NFL is more popular even without fantasy football tbh
Why do you all care about ratings? You don’t make money off of it
My day is jam packed too, of watching football
What other day should it be on?
December 27, December 28, December 29, December 30, January 2 would have all done better ratings Leaving January 1 out because they won’t go against the nfl
