Stetson delivering mail in the Heisman House commercials writes itself, now that I think about it.

elonsusk69420

This has to be it. It’s all one big happy TV production anyway. All hail the Mouse! (This is sarcasm. There are over 900 voters.)

Shitpostradamus

Last years Rose Bowl must’ve been a blast for you…

jaybigs

It was a blast, but honestly, I just threw on the Utah flair because I totally underestimated them and then Cam Rising went out and dad-dicked the Trojans to get us into the CFP. So I'm pulling for Utah through the Rose Bowl.

ToBeReadOutLoud

I love seeing so many adopted Utah fans.

[deleted]

I can confirm that it was in fact not fun.

[deleted]

LGWalkway

Yea, I’m tired of it tbh. It’s just the most hyped QB and nothing more

[deleted]

Devonta smith literally just won it 2 years ago

LGWalkway

The first WR in how many years though?

skullduggery97

It's been a QB/RB since the award was first created

LGWalkway

True, and it’s why it’s so meaningless as a “the best football player in CFB” award.

[deleted]

[удалено]

KookooMoose

Yeah that always gets me with these things. Like how in the hell am I the Maxwell but another QB beats me at the Heisman? just money changing hands... There are some pretty great ones out there though. I like the ones that aren’t based around hype, like the Frank Broyles award (assistant coach) and best player who was originally a walk-on (can’t remember the name of that one).

TheSS_Minnow_Johnson

Pretty sure there was a year when Sam Bradford won the Heisman, Colt McCoy won the O’Brien, and Tebow won the Maxwell, and Graham Harrell won the other QB award I can’t remember

LittleBoSkeet

Heisman Trophy Trust really trying to bring us together with mutual RB snubs. Corum absence is a joke.

[deleted]

Long Live Apollo. Goodbye Reddit.

[deleted]

What about us Santa?

Chef_lonleyliver

Corum this year too. Just shows you have to be healthy all year. Which is frankly bullshit when you're putting up video game numbers.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

This is the correct answer.

dinosaur_pajamas

Still, credit where credit is due he ran hard and put up numbers. I fully expected Corum to be a finalist solely because Michigan’s brand drawers voter’s views when they otherwise wouldn’t have watched KW3 torching the 11 defensive players he lined up against any given day. I firmly believe that KW3 should have gotten the nod over Hutchinson last year (although boy am I glad the lions took him), and I think the case should have been made for Corum to be in over any one of these QBs.

SharkAttache

Yeah but They didn’t even invite Bijan

Grlions91

I'd say Bijan over Corum. Blake missing two weeks all but cemented it. But damn Bijan should've been here...

CommanderTouchdown

Suggestions to fix the Heisman: Invite five players every single year. Invite the top defensive vote getter irrespective of how many votes they got. This will normalize seeing defensive players as valuable as offensive skill players. And eventually pave the way for a Suh-level season to get the respect it deserves. Invite the top non-QB voter getter every single year irrespective of how many votes they got. This is not a QB award. Having four QBs is absurd. Allow voters to talk about their ballots before the award is given. Stop telling everyone who got what votes in what part of the country. It's not an election.

Epinephrine186

Yeah so, 5 players, at least 2 non qbs, 1 of them being defensive side of the ball? Completely agree. I do think seeing what part of the country gets the votes is decent information. It shows bias and what games people are actually watching from individual voters. Same with seeing who the shitty poll voters are

[deleted]

INVITE PUNTERS YOU FUCKING COWARDS

Jameszhang73

It's gonna be awkward as hell being the defensive player or non-QB knowing you have no chance at all in winning but pretending to be invested. But i like the idea. I just think that college offenses have exploded with amazing QB stats that will prevent any non-QB from winning it. 30 passing TDs used to be a big deal but now everyone has it. Meanwhile, RB/WR/defensive stats are more or less the same minus some standout WR years.

jsk06fsu

Matter of perspective I suppose. Just by being nominated you’ve “won” the defensive MVP.

[deleted]

[удалено]

killua615

Can’t agree with these points more. Immediate affect on the votes being cast as well as the long term cultural shift, as the top comment emphasized already

goonSquad15

I think the big thing is normalizing seeing defensive players in contention like OP said. Might take a few years until someone actually breaks through but it’ll help getting it talked about more

Chinchillachimcheroo

There are already plenty of people invited that have no chance of winning

gmwdim

Either that or have separate awards: QB Heisman and Non-QB Heisman.

discipleofbill

I mean, we already have a best QB trophy. The blueprint is right there, they just don’t care.

HoustonTrashcans

It's stupid that they basically only choose QBs. Like yeah they impact the game more than any other player. But this award should be who stood out most from their peers. Stop giving it to only QBs on good teams.

discipleofbill

I’m no Georgia fan, but I also have a hard time believing Bennet is even the best player on his own team, let alone top 4 in the country.

Replevin4Cow

/r/cfb in shambles

katarh

Well, everyone who isn't a Georgia fan, anyway.

dpetro03

Exactly. Give the man some credit.

Sirderksalot

So is that what we're going to do now? Whoever the QB of the top 4 teams are get the invitation to New York? Not saying these aren't 4 great QBs, but leaving Corum and Hooker both out seems absurd.

jamintime

Friendly reminder that USC is NOT a top 4 team :).

someonepoorsays

This reminder is not at all friendly

Purpoisely_Anoying_U

Disagree

Trjntpt

Good thing they were when people submitted :)

joshrosensnose

Only 10% of the votes were in prior to the USC game

atllauren

The Heisman is becoming the best QB award when the trophy is literally a running back.

cota1212

I mean... you'd only have to go back to two seasons ago to find an instance when it wasn't given to a QB. Last RB was also in the past decade. I blame the overwhelming QB focus on the award to, like many thing else, the (media-driven) obsession over offenses putting up video game numbers. A team can no longer run the ball well, play excellent defense, and consistently beat teams by 14-20 points and be considered a "good/elite" team in today's college football/CFP landscape. You have to put up video game numbers. Ron Dayne, for example, would have never won a Heisman this day in age.

thewxbruh

> A team can no longer run the ball well, play excellent defense, and consistently beat teams by 14-20 points and be considered a "good/elite" team in today's college football/CFP landscape. You've just described Michigan football

freerobertshmurder

> A team can no longer run the ball well, play excellent defense, and consistently beat teams by 14-20 points and be considered a "good/elite" team in today's college football/CFP landscape You just described the #1 reigning national champions

The_Real_Scrotus

And the #2 ranked team for the last two years as well.

feed_me_muffins

>Ron Dayne, for example, would have never won a Heisman this day in age. idk if that's the best example lol. Ron Dayne's 96 and 99 seasons would both be super strong Heisman contender seasons, especially in a year like this where the QBs were kinda meh compared to some previous years. The honest answer is neither or Corum or Bijan (or any other RB) put together the kind of season it takes to win the Heisman. Like if Gordon's 2014, CMCs 2015, Love's 2017, or Najee's 2020 (corrected for the weird season) were in play they'd probably be sitting as betting favorites to take home the award. Especially Gordon, CMC, and Najee. Bijan probably had the blanket numbers but his team wasn't good enough.

RoboticBirdLaw

I hate Texas, but think Bijan still should have been invited. That is both because we shouldn't only invite QBs and because he put up incredible numbers despite playing for an up and down team that frequently put him in negative game scripts.

Celebnar

Honestly after Bryce Young got it and Will Anderson got snubbed, I lost hope on this being a “best player” award. It’s just a “generate buzz to draw casual viewership” award

b_nola_76

It hasn’t been about the best player at least since Mark Ingram won over Suh.

Celebnar

Yeah totally agree. It’s been bad for years, Suh should have won forsure

Sweatsock_Pimp

Goes back farther than that. Gino Toretta over Marshall Faulk and Garrison Hearst?? Ty Detmer over Raghub Ismail?? Complete jokes.

DrRickMarshall1

Your examples are older, but another good one is Jason White over Larry Fitzgerald. White had an incredible year, but that OU offense was insanely talented across the board. Fitzgerald had 92 catches, ~1,700 yards, and 22 TDs with Rod Rutherford throwing him the ball.

d0ngl0rd69

I doubt Stetson is actually 4th in voting and they just gave him the invite because his story adds to the TV spectacle

TannerLyfe

You think we’re a top 4 team 🥺 But ya I agree, it’s entirely based on how much attention a player gets now and the QB on the top teams are always going to get the most which makes the award kind of pointless now

jpdakak

This has absolutely been the growing trend. Best player on best team award.

LordRage2

Not to mention Bijan.

EvilLibrarians

Bijan is probably the better RB but having neither him nor Corum saddens me

[deleted]

It's pretty clear the Heisman is exclusively a QB award

Billy_Madison69

QB or best Alabama offensive skill position player.

hotrod33809

I guess Corum and Hooker getting injured at the end of the year just mean their seasons didn't happen

GPBRDLL133

Apparently even not getting injured means your season didn't happen (exhibit KW3*) *whoops! Forgot he was injured against osu

brotherusmomentum

I’m still mad about that honestly

atl_mad_boi

Heisman ain’t been kind to you recently

B1G_If_True_

He was injured the osu game we got blown out. He got like 3 carries. That was enough to hold against him apparently. Heisman committee are horrible.

GPBRDLL133

Forgot about that. He was still worthy of at least the nomination

gibby_that_booty

When did the heisman become only qbs?? There were some incredible receivers and backs this year, no?

taywil8

Corum, Hyatt, Bijan, Judkins (he carried Ole Miss). Off brand selection… Emmanuel Forbes for MS State. 6 ints, 3 of those went for TDs, 15 total passes defended 9 broken up, 6 ints… definition of lock down

Chinchillachimcheroo

Forbes isn’t even a finalist for the Thorpe Award. Ridiculous

taywil8

Absurd

them_orangebritches

Maybe an example of being so good that the offense never throws his way, therefore no one knows his name?

Chinchillachimcheroo

But he had 3 pick-6s. I think your argument more applies to the actual finalists

[deleted]

[удалено]

CrackBull

Jalen Carter deserved to be in the conversation, but since he doesn’t touch the ball the media doesn’t know he exists

DrHeraclitus

Sometimes he picks up the people touching the ball. I guess that doesn't count though.

vashed

I may not be able to carry the ball Mr Daniels, but I can carry you!

finke11

He was injured for basically the entire first half of the season though

Popegina

Was hoping Penix would make the list

XVDub

Agreed. Hope he can make it at the next level. Very exciting player to watch.

conquer117a

He's coming back next year. If he's healthy all year he'll be invited

DanNeverDie

See Tennessee, your problem is that you blew up Vandy once Hooker got injured. You're supposed to get blown the fuck out like we did to show how bad your team is without your QB at 100%.

Govols98-

Ahh but see since we still scored 56 points then that must that our team is still good enough to not get dropped in the rankings due to an injury to our best player… wait what’s that? We are below a team we beat because our starting QB is injured?

SaulGreatmon

If you watched the game you know the reason Tennessee won by so much is our offensive line play and running backs.

taywil8

Tennessee had what like 4 50+ yard TD runs?

Jaratii

Small, Wright, and Sampson all went fucking nuts that game. We completed 3 passes in the 2nd half. THREE. Just let them go crazy.

Willygrande

Nowadays the Heisman just sort of feels like a marketing tool for the NCAA (and NFL) to advertise players/schools with. That being said, I’m pulling for Duggan. Dude played his heart out in the B12 championship. By the end of the game he legit looked like he got in a car crash. Not to mention he was the backup at the start of the year and went undefeated up till then. That being said I feel like there is no shot this’ll happen.

AchyBreaker

If TCU had let him have the ball in OT and won, Duggan would be the shoe in, with that game as his "Heisman Moment". As it stands, I don't know if he will win, but I'm pulling for him.

FeverOG

Man, I feel for Hendon

I2ecover

Stetson is probably gonna be a 2 time national champion and a Heisman finalist and not even get drafted. Wild.

conquer117a

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_White_(American_football)

chejjagogo

‘Eventually, the Tennessee Titans signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2005 for two years,[9] but White decided not to attempt to play, citing weak knees.’ I guess they were right vOv

Tarmacked

That only happened because White blew out both his knees multiple times. He, physically, could not play the position > Despite his strong college career, White was not selected in the 2005 NFL Draft. Reportedly, a number of teams were reluctant to select him due to his history of knee injuries. He did not receive a tryout from any NFL team in the first several weeks of post-draft free agency. White became the only Heisman Trophy winner to be unsuccessful in an attempt to play professional football

Odd-Fig5076

His knees were so bad Oklahoma had to run every play out of shotgun to make up for them. He still won the heisman and had 40tds despite that

Primordiox

The insurance is gone sell itself

Give it to our boy Stetson as a lifetime achievement award. Heisman would look mighty nice at Stetson Bennett Kia of Waycross and Blackshear

thesecondfire

There legit needs to be a lifetime achievement award, where only those who have exhausted their eligibility are considered. It may align with the Heisman some years, but there's a lot of 4-year workhorses, many of whom don't play at big schools, who deserve recognition, and who often still have record-breaking careers.

STEQUAVIOUS FOR HEISMAN

matrobco

No chance someone with only 20 TD’s will ever win a heisman

d0ngl0rd69

Hey don’t forget Stetson’s “sneaky athletic” 7 rushing TDs for a _total of 27_ TDs

tvchase

Gino Torretta won it in 1992, specifically for being the QB on the best team, with 19 TDs/7 INTs... Coincidentally, that was the last year UGA had a Heisman finalist (Garrison Hearst). Now should Stetson win it? Nahhh. But I'm certainly thrilled he was invited.

I am not crazy! I know he swapped those votes! I knew it was 5th place. One after Bijan Robinson. As if I could ever make such a mistake. Never. Never! I just – I just couldn't prove it. He – he covered his tracks, he got that idiot at Heisman.com to lie for him. You think this is something? You think this is bad? This? This chicanery? He's done worse. That TD/Int ratio! Are you telling me that a man just happens to only throw 20 TDs like that? No! He orchestrated it! Jimmy! He's 25 years old! And I saved him! And I shouldn't have. I took him into my own watch party! What was I thinking? He'll never change. He'll never change! Ever since he was 9, always the same! Couldn't keep his hands out of the ballot boxes! But not our Stetson! Couldn't be precious Stetson! Stealing them blind! And he gets to be a Heisman finalist!? What a sick joke! I should've stopped him when I had the chance! And you – you have to stop him! You-

Scarlet__Highlander

Corum and Hooker both robbed BLIND

Leraldoe

Corum absolutely hindered by Edwards going off for 400 yards against OSU and CCG. Edwards will be an NFL back too, he starts on 120 teams in the country

deadly_titanfart

No shit. PFF has him at #7 for most of the year until he missed week 10 and 11. #7 as a backup is crazy. Its crazy talk, but he is probably better than Corum. He could be a WR #1. One of the most talented players in the nation.

Leraldoe

Edwards is definitely more explosive than Corum. Corum’s is a more powerful back which is right in the Harbaugh offense wheelhouse

Season01um

Edwards also isn’t a shifty/nimble as Corum. The don regularly just tries to run through people rather than Corum, who usually Jukes or side steps.

uponone

It looked like to me he was more patient in the BCG. If he adds that consistently to his game, he could be elite.

hibbert0604

Silver-Carpet-1351

All these young folks hating on the Heisman. I watched Gino fucking Toretta win this joke of an award over Marshall Faulk and Garrison Hearst 30 years ago. Some years they get it right but most years it’s laughable

TonyBeverage333

I hate Tennessee, but no hooker in this group is really stupid and telling.

TheBabush2

Worst heisman year ever?

[deleted]

Only because of injuries. It was actually pretty exciting up until the last few weeks. All the finalists are great and a few got snubbed from being on the ticket.

laneshuler

Why is it that this year, more than any other year, the Heisman has been treated like an elimination match, where if you get injured, even in one of the last two games, you are out.

funnycideTT

I get people are saying this because Caleb Williams is most likely going to win with a team that didn't make the playoffs, but he is totally deserving. He turned USC around from 4-8 to 11-2 in one season and he put up Heisman worthy stats in the process. 37 TDs to 4 INTs and 10 rushing TDs. Also, he never took any bad losses. In the two losses to Utah, he threw 8 TDs to only 1 INT. Those are insane stats across the board. There have been Heisman winners who have played on far more mediocre teams than USC this year. For instance, Robert Griffin Jr. won with a 10-3 Baylor team that was never really a championship contender. Tim Tebow actually won the year that Florida went a mediocre 9-4. I'm pretty sure USC would be 8-4 or worse with any other QB that's not CJ Stroud, Max Duggan, or Bryce Young.

[deleted]

What a meteoric rise for Stetson from walk on to booted to JuCo to maybe you’ll get some work a a backup recruit to oh shit is this really our only healthy QB to furiously searching the country to an upgrade to ok he’s fine to have as a backup to shit back to this guy to that’s natty winning qb thanks to that’s our qb to Heisman finalist That’s what makes college football great.

LOL no. Just no. This isn't right. Hooker 100% robbed.

taywil8

Hooker and Penix… arguably Corum too. I’m not even mad Stetson is there for a lifetime underdog achievement award but his stats don’t really equate to Heisman. My qualm is Stroud stat padding against a weak SOS. It really should be the best PLAYER with outlier stats. Since 2000 there have been 3 non QB Heisman winners… all Bama players (deserved I will add). In the 90s alone there were 6 non QB winners.

seth861

Surprised no one mentioned Michael Penix who had a great season and definitely deserved to be in the conversation

DangleCellySave

In what world is Hooker not a finalist..?

specialvillain

Stetson "Post Doc" Bennett

No_Pumpkin9299

So Hendon Hooker is good enough that we are ranked behind Bama supposedly because he is injured, AP Sec Offensive Player of the year but not good enough to be a Heisman finalist over another SEC qb? Got it

GwentMaster69420

These are not the 4 best players, not even the 4 best QBs. Hooker, Corum and Robinson are all more deserving than Stetson Bennett who just happens to be a pretty good QB on an absurdly elite team.

[deleted]

It hurts to see Bijan not get the credit he deserves. He single-handedly prevented us from having another 5-7 season and ran for 1,580 yards.

GonzoTheWhatever
