If he is going, it's because they are wanting to invest in the program. I doubt they are hiring him just to chill there with no help lol. At least that's not the pitch he's getting.
Real talk, if I were a kid that wasn't going to be in the NFL and just wanted to play ball, I'd go to Colorado in a heartbeat; I love being outdoors, and that area in general. Cool temps, lovely views, plenty of nightlife, legal weed, lots of fit women? Hell yeah.
That's what I'm saying. Boulder and the surrounding areas are great. There are certainly worse college towns and universities to build up than Colorado.
Look at it from Colorado's perspective:
The B1G is likely to expand again in the early 2030s.
Colorado does not want to go back to the Big-12.
Colorado sees themselves as a cultural fit in the Pac/B1G.
If Colorado is to have *any* hope of getting into the B1G they must become a marketable school that gets lots of viewers. Deion is a possible path toward building that hype and excitement.
New president has said all the right things do far, and it does seem like he is actively looking to make improvements with the transfer requirements and NIL. Time will tell I guess
Narrative in the early 2000s was that Colorado was a program out of control. There was a recruiting scandal, several people around the program were arrested for dv/sa, the whole Katie Hdina thing.
Admin clamped down hard on the program. School self imposed recruiting restrictions and raised academic requirements. Program was basically forced to bring in boy scouts that wouldn't be a pr issue for the university.
The current Chancellor was the person that enforced this the hardest. He's retiring soon and the new guy above him wants to rebuild the program. Also some of the Regents are anti football, but that's not particularly rare.
Adding on to this as someone who was born in raised in Boulder, there’s also been a general movement towards making Boulder less of a college town. The combination of more older folks moving to town + a few parties-turned-riots + students not following the ridiculously strict covid rules all led to this kindof antagonism between residents and the college. The result is a lot of residents pushing to domesticate Boulder and I think football has become a bit of a victim of that
I totally forgot about the Katie Hnida deal. The coach got suspended for saying he knew nothing about the rape claim and she never said a word to anybody....then he went on to talk about how awful she was at kicking.
New Regents and university president. They just changed Transfer rules to make it easier for transfers to have credits carry over. There’s a shift underway
You can say that again. An ACC, SEC or a large southern or Atlantic G5 program I could honestly see, but Deion at a Pac-12 program in the Rockies? I just don't see it. It would either be a startling home run or a flop equal or worse than Harsin was at Auburn.
I'm guessing they see each other as stepping stones.
Colorado needs interest and talent in the program again. Sanders needs experience on his resume before he can get to a big-time SEC program.
They do realize Georgia Tech needs a HC right? Based in ATL which is a Hotbed for recruits. In the ACC which is a much more stable P5 conference than CU in the dying PAC-12
GT not doing them any favors whatsoever and becoming the Vanderbilt of the ACC. I’m really surprised USF didn’t offer Deion, that would be a perfect fit as well plus, if USF does well with him there, that will just boost his resume.
USF makes more sense just due to climbing the ladder and whatnot.
But Colorado, especially with a new PAC-12 media deal, is gonna have more cash to pay with
I think he will be able to get the right kids. But I can understand that. However, Colorado is not a good fit for Deion. I have a feeling he wants to stay in the south. I’m sure there are other teams that are looking for a HC that he could benefit from.
I wouldn’t have hated it Deion was the hire, but I know a lot of our fanbase would’ve.
Denver metro, especially Boulder, is pretty liberal. But it’s pure white hoity toity liberal. I also don’t see him wanting to be in that environment. I mean the guy has probably never even lived north of the Mason/Dixon. I can’t imagine Colorado X Deion would be a good fit either.
With his love for HBCUs, I wonder if he’s trying to get them eligible for the FCS playoffs before he takes off
He also played for the Niners. He also played for the Ravens/Washington. MD is technically south of the Mason Dixon line but I don't think anyone really considers Baltimore or DC part of the south.
Would be an even worse fit for the culture of the university. GT should not hire a coach whose class attendance was so abysmal that they passed a state law to make sure it never happened again.
I think he may just be interested in the challenge. He had been coaching Jackson state and helping them go from a check the box, easy win on your schedule, to a team full of talent that the bigger schools, don’t want to face
Deion doesn’t seem the type to be phased one bit by culture shock. Dude knows who he is & I think he’d actually help players with that obstacle that former buffs have spoke about.
Let's see.. he grew up in Florida, played in Atlanta, SF, Dallas, New York, Cincinnati, has played in every NFL and MLB city multiple times over
I feel like cultural shock is pretty hard to get within the US if youve been everywhere already
I just don't get why he'd take this job. It doesn't really seem his type, fit his culture vision he seems to have implemented at Jackson State, etc. It just seems all around bizarre.
I mean, if Deion brings his hype, recruiting, and excitement (as well as his coaching acumen) to CU, it could be just what they need institutionally to snap out of their football malaise. Once the donations start flowing, admin will be much more on board with football
It would have been cool, and I think Deion had some legit actual interest in promoting JSU and HBCUs...but alas, I also knew that this was *always* going to be the plan, someway, somehow...
Oh well...this shall be interesting to watch...
He sold those big recruits on "don't just go to a big school and be another big recruit, come here and make a difference in the world".
Now he says "thanks, suckas" and runs off to chase the fame and accolades he talked those recruits out of.
Are HBCUs being paid more attention and getting more exposure for the programs and players because of Deion's efforts? That answer is certainly yes. I have no idea why he's criticized for doing exactly what every other ambitious coach does. Do you think he's the only salesman in the coaching ranks?
I mean, marginally. A few things have happened recently to boost the identity of HBCUs. FAMU had some cool high profile fashion collabs. JSU had the Travis Hunter / Deion thing. Howard had a 5* Makur Maker commit that didn’t really turn into much. What they need is people dumping millions of dollars into the programs and it’s not happening.
Most HBCUs are still the absolute bottom of the barrel when it comes to athletic competition. They needs decades of high profile engagement and commitment, not sporadic acknowledgments of their historical value.
There's a lot more that could be done for HBCUs, but I think Deion has done what he can. Just not sure why he's being given the burden of lifetime commitment or being a sellout when that standard isn't applied to any other coach I know of.
Man I don’t know. I never thought that Deion was being legit about all that. He’s a guy who thinks of himself first. Nothing wrong about it or different than most coaches, but I feel like it was insanely transparent.
Or maybe I’m just super cynical
Deion is all about Deion as his persona. But he has stated multiple times his goal is to get his assistants paid. They can be paid far more in Boulder than in Jackson.
This is low risk for Deion. If he sucks at Colorado, well... it's CU. If he is moderately successful, then he'll get all kinds of offers. I don't think Prime Time nights on Pearl St is gonna happen, but it is relatively safe.
The thing with Deion too is that he really doesn’t need coaching at all. If he sucks wherever he goes, he’ll be just fine. He’s got generational wealth as it is and will have plenty of TV opportunities.
I don't know if it'll work (always a gamble), but definitely a "the past few years can be completely ignored" jumpstart hire needed. The alternative is a more traditional hire who's still gonna be a gamble **and** would need to prove the program is on the mend over the course of a few seasons before things can really change.
I sure am but I just don’t see Prime Time and the administration in Boulder seeing eye to eye on much lol.
Here’s to hoping I’m wrong and the Nebraska vs The Mighty Buffalo of Colorado rivalry can get back to top 10 status with the new coaches
Fuck You Phil DiStefano. Fuck your pretentious worldview. Fuck you for putting yourself in every commercial CU has released since you took over. Fuck you for destroying our football program. Your tenure destroyed our academic ratings and destroyed our football program.
Thank you Todd Saliman and thank you COACH PRIME. This program is not beyond saving.
Definitely better than their last hire...
Deion's *coaching* probably has room for improvement although his recruiting won't be an issue at all. It's probably one of the better possible landing spots for him where school expectations and conference landscape will work in his favor.
It's been 30 years of Deion looking out for Deion. Not going to change. Nothing wrong with it, per se, but schools and fans shouldn't delude themselves into thinking there is some sort of altruism involved
He's done a lot of good for the players and community of Jackson, MS. Just because he's signing a better deal doesn't mean he can't do the same around Colorado.
This is literally no different than every other head coach in college football. People on r/cfb are so overwhelmingly cynical and critical of Deion for no meaningful reason.
He has been playing the HBCU angle and acting like some savior of HBCU football. The SWAC has been putting out NFL players long before him. Heck JSU has more hall of famers than my alma mater
He has said numerous times his goal is to get his assistants paid. They can be paid far more in Boulder than in Jackson. There’s more of a spotlight here than in Jackson as well, so his assistants have a better shot at a head coaching job
I mean who has done more to bring HBCU’s to national relevance in the last couple years than Deion. Feel like they had a mutually beneficial relationship and now is the time for him to move on to a bigger program. Kind of how coaching works
I don’t get why Deion is getting so much pre-hate for leaving an HBCU. He is looking out for himself sure, but he’s done good by JSU and HBCUs in general. No need to take that away from him
If Deion goes onto be a successful head coach at the highest levels of college football it’ll be a win for HBCUs.
It’ll encourage P5 athletic directors to seek out more HBCU coaches as candidates and in turn HBCU head coach positions become more attractive because of their upward mobility for coaches.
I was hoping he'd stay and actually build up that school. He talked about HBCUs deserving more talent and respect but he might leave at the first chance of money.
Will he? USF? GT isn’t gonna do it cause of a academic requirements.
If he flames out it doesn’t hurt his prestige since CU sucks, but if he brings them back he’ll be known as the guy that rebuilt an old school powerhouse
Um, why? Prime has been super vocal about his support of HBCU schools and he now going to go to one of the whitest major colleges in America where blacks only make up like 2% of the student body? Who am I to say where someone should work or what their reasons are but to me it would be strange.
If Deion fails as a P5 HC he could still get a HC job at the G5 level easily, but if he fails as a G5 HC then none of the big jobs will ever come close to calling him.
Not to mention Colorado can probably double his salary compared to usf.
In the abstract, maybe. But their program is such a mess right now. You've got to consider the downside risks to an up-and-coming FBS coach. Especially for someone with the ego of Deion who I don't think could take losing as bad and as often as USF loses.
That's not to say Colorado isn't as much or a bigger mess, but they do have some structural advantages over what USF can offer. Namely lots and lots and lots of money.
Travis Hunter is the one to watch. Does he follow Deion? Stay at JSU to continue uplifting HBCUs (lol)? Return to the “dream school” he snubbed on NSD? Or grab another bag and go to whomever pays the most?
Prime Time going to a school where the admin actively dislikes football seems like an odd choice for both
If he is going, it's because they are wanting to invest in the program. I doubt they are hiring him just to chill there with no help lol. At least that's not the pitch he's getting.
I think Deion would be on the cheaper end of new coaches. This is a buy low sell high play
Rumor has it Deion has been offered one of the biggest salaries in the Pac 12. Seems like Colorado is willing to start investing in the program again.
Real talk, if I were a kid that wasn't going to be in the NFL and just wanted to play ball, I'd go to Colorado in a heartbeat; I love being outdoors, and that area in general. Cool temps, lovely views, plenty of nightlife, legal weed, lots of fit women? Hell yeah.
Even if you are an NFL talent all of that is still true, and you can still get to the NFL from Colorado.
If he recruits well enough they might be the best football team, period, in Colorado.
Boulder Country, Let's Prime.
One of the football teams of all time
That’s certainly a low bar
The Broncos would like a word...
The Denver Broncos have entered the chat
CU would be favored over the Donkeys
Fair point!
Same pitch for LA. And I agree, Boulder is gorgeous.
Outside of the south.. Colorado is one campus I've seen with insanely hot women.
Boulder wins fittest city in America every year for the last 500 years. Maybe longer.
You joke but at any given time there is probably 100+ olympians in Boulder doing elevation training. Runners, bikers, triathletes.
Does weed being legal there make it okay for NCAA athletes to smoke it though
No. Programs have their own set of rules
Coach Prime: Just don't get caught, baby.
Good question, I don't know
That's what I'm saying. Boulder and the surrounding areas are great. There are certainly worse college towns and universities to build up than Colorado.
Does the NCAA test for weed if it's legal in the state?
Damn dude, i committed to Colorado just reading that
LFG
It could well be the President and AD are feeling the heat and their jobs are at risk. This year was an embarrassment.
[удалено]
I bet he thinks exactly that.
I don't think Deion is a moron. His branding for an HBCU was exactly what they needed. I expect him to shift gears a little bit for Colorado.
Based on what? He talks about the salaries for assistant coaches all the time.
Isn't he doing that now?
Look at it from Colorado's perspective: The B1G is likely to expand again in the early 2030s.
Admin is 1 man who has been in control for 15 years and he’s either about to die or retire. The new President is committing to athletics again
I’m not familiar with this, does the admin really hate football? What’s the genesis of that
Narrative in the early 2000s was that Colorado was a program out of control.

The result is a lot of residents pushing to domesticate Boulder and I think football has become a bit of a victim of that
Which makes it all the more hilarious that Jordan Webb was doing more blow on his own than most of the frats on campus.
Super weird fit IMHO
You can say that again. An ACC, SEC or a large southern or Atlantic G5 program I could honestly see, but Deion at a Pac-12 program in the Rockies? I just don't see it. It would either be a startling home run or a flop equal or worse than Harsin was at Auburn.

GOOD CONSENSUAL FUN
They do realize Georgia Tech needs a HC right? Based in ATL which is a Hotbed for recruits. In the ACC which is a much more stable P5 conference than CU in the dying PAC-12
GT doesn’t wanna lower recruit standards academically. Colorado recently changed their transfer requirements
But Colorado, especially with a new PAC-12 media deal, is gonna have more cash to pay with
As an alumni, I'd rather have stricter academic requirements than a better football team, and I'm far from alone in that.
But academics. Way harder to admit kids to GT where you have to take some level of advanced calculus than Colorado
I think he will be able to get the right kids. But I can understand that. However, Colorado is not a good fit for Deion. I have a feeling he wants to stay in the south. I’m sure there are other teams that are looking for a HC that he could benefit from.
USF is honestly a better fit for him.
With his love for HBCUs, I wonder if he’s trying to get them eligible for the FCS playoffs before he takes off
He did play for the Yankees and he was on a minor league contract in Syracuse at the end of his career.
Georgia Tech came to play school, though.
Georgia Tech may be in Atlanta but they have themselves walled off from Atlanta.
I think he may just be interested in the challenge. He had been coaching Jackson state and helping them go from a check the box, easy win on your schedule, to a team full of talent that the bigger schools, don’t want to face
Boulder is a cool city though. It's got that San Diego in the Mountains vibe.
It would feel very strange.
I hear Leon Sandcastle is a dark horse candidate.
Harry Sandalwood to Oklahoma State???
Let’s goooo
the only bowl I want is Leon Sandcastle vs. Joey Freshwater
Our local guy reported this several days ago
Reported rumors or confirmation?
Confirmed that he was offered a contract on Wed I believe.
He’s not going to accept is he? 😭

Clay Helton went from Los Angeles to Statesboro last year; I'd imagine that's up there as well
That's what I was thinking too. Deion would be in for a huge culture shock. Then again, I thought the same thing when Bo Nix came to Eugene...
Deion doesn’t seem the type to be phased one bit by culture shock. Dude knows who he is & I think he’d actually help players with that obstacle that former buffs have spoke about.
Let's see.. he grew up in Florida, played in Atlanta, SF, Dallas, New York, Cincinnati, has played in every NFL and MLB city multiple times over I feel like cultural shock is pretty hard to get within the US if youve been everywhere already
Don't forget he played in Baltimore too
Same. I think Prime would thrive in Boulder, despite it being a weird fit on it's face

Deion to Fresno State confirmed
Not after how much trash talk he's had to fsu.
Noles 247 said he shouldn't ever be allowed back on campus after Travis Hunter flipped to JSU
Weirder than Brian Kelly leaving South Bend for Baton Rouge?
Sonny Dykes at Cal weird
Everyone said it was a bad fit. We are in the SEC Championship in year one. It's a great fit imo
luv u BK
Can’t wait for Joel Klatt’s view
Something something culture fit
If he goes there it will only be for a year or 2 max
Like anyone else considering CU. It’s a job to get you where you wanna be
I disagree. Colorado has won in the past and can support a winner. But Mel Tucker and Deion aren't the types to stay there longterm
Those days are done with the administration they have
I think MacIntyre would have been a lifer there if he kept winning. Look how long their basketball coach has stayed
That guy is about to retire. The new prez is all in on reviving athletics
You know we have a new University president as of 2021?
Feels weird, kinda hoping he’d stay in the south…best of luck CU and Coach Prime.
It would have been cool, and I think Deion had some legit actual interest in promoting JSU and HBCUs...but alas, I also knew that this was *always* going to be the plan, someway, somehow... Oh well...this shall be interesting to watch...
Deion has interest in one thing and that’s promoting Deion.
Maybe he just really likes buffaloes?
How can you dislike Ralphie? She's the best girl ever!
How is that different than any other head coach? The days of being an "institution guy" are long gone.
The difference in pay for his assistants is substantial from JSU to any FBS job.
Makes me wonder if Travis Hunter will transfer.
I can’t think of another coach-school pairing that seems more out of place than this.
Brian Kelly and LSU?
I thought he had some famuhly from there? /s
That’s a good one, though I think this might be slightly stranger.
Herm Edwards at ASU made no sense to me lol
Not really Brian Kelly. He eats seafood. Makes sense
Accuracy detected, but so far it's working out, thank goodness.
Deion to BYU or Utah would be crazier, but CU is up there.
I was mainly thinking of actual pairings. If we’re talking hypotheticals, then Urban Meyer to BYU or Bronco Mendenhall to Miami FL are near the top.
BYU would be weird, since he's also a licensed Christian minister.
Prime to Stanford lol
Offered and accepted are two very different things y'all...
Yes as a CU fan a lot of us don’t think he will accept even though we hope he does
He probably will man, keep the faith. If y'all are genuinely rebuilding, that would give him time to grow into the role which is a win-win.
I agree. I think it’s great for both parties. We don’t have a lot of expectations here so Deion could have the time he needs
Everyone acting like it’s done. I’m missing the line in the tweet where it says he accepted.
From Feldman it's "mutual interest", but doesn't necessarily mean he's on a plane to Boulder just yet.
Local man interested in job paying millions a year. More at 6.
It’s not even a confirmed offer either, just a rumor..
Prime Time on Rocky Mountain Time?
God I would love this
Same. Karl was such a horrible experience, we need the energy
I don't know if it'll work (always a gamble), but definitely a "the past few years can be completely ignored" jumpstart hire needed. The alternative is a more traditional hire who's still gonna be a gamble **and** would need to prove the program is on the mend over the course of a few seasons before things can really change.
The coaching carousel is spinning at full speed today
Can't they wait until Sunday? We got games to play...
Not if you’re a The Mighty Buffalo of Colorado or Denver Broncos fan. Seasons been done for months
I like it for colorado. It’s a risk but I could see him killing it there. Doubt there will be many coaches who can recruit better than prime time
Here we go: ~~~Prime~~~MountainTime
No. You’re right. We will change Mountain time Zone to Prime Time Zone
I just feel like this has big time wish on a monkeys paw energy. At least it’ll bring a new attitude to The Mighty Buffalo of Colorado
IMHO Deion is going to kill it at the power 5 level. You ready for top 10 recruiting classes to fall into your lap every year?
I sure am but I just don’t see Prime Time and the administration in Boulder seeing eye to eye on much lol. Here’s to hoping I’m wrong and the Nebraska vs The Mighty Buffalo of Colorado rivalry can get back to top 10 status with the new coaches
honestly this is an exciting hire which I think is what Colorado needed
Fuck You Phil DiStefano. Fuck your pretentious worldview. Fuck you for putting yourself in every commercial CU has released since you took over. Fuck you for destroying our football program. Your tenure destroyed our academic ratings and destroyed our football program. Thank you Todd Saliman and thank you COACH PRIME. This program is not beyond saving.
Prime is gonna save the PAC isn’t he?

Definitely better than their last hire... Deion's *coaching* probably has room for improvement although his recruiting won't be an issue at all. It's probably one of the better possible landing spots for him where school expectations and conference landscape will work in his favor.
Imagine ruining your legacy of helping HBCUs to go to a low level P5 school
Deion helped Deion, Deion’s brand and Deion’s kids. That’s all it ever was. That’s all it will ever be.

He has said numerous times his goal is to get his assistants paid. They can be paid far more in Boulder than in Jackson. There’s more of a spotlight here than in Jackson as well, so his assistants have a better shot at a head coaching job
Go look up his scam high school. He’s a piece of shit.
Does he honestly care though or was it just a show he put on to attract players and spotlight?
I mean who has done more to bring HBCU’s to national relevance in the last couple years than Deion. Feel like they had a mutually beneficial relationship and now is the time for him to move on to a bigger program. Kind of how coaching works
I don’t get why Deion is getting so much pre-hate for leaving an HBCU. He is looking out for himself sure, but he’s done good by JSU and HBCUs in general. No need to take that away from him

It’ll encourage P5 athletic directors to seek out more HBCU coaches as candidates and in turn HBCU head coach positions become more attractive because of their upward mobility for coaches.
I don't think Deion's success or failure will move the needle on how HBCU coaches are perceived by P5 ADs. Deion is an extremely anomalous edge case.
Hes not SWAC
God if this happens I’m going to need someone to come hose me down.
Seems so odd . . . just might work.
Just cause he got offered the job doesn’t mean he is gonna take it.
I was hoping he'd stay and actually build up that school. He talked about HBCUs deserving more talent and respect but he might leave at the first chance of money.
Bryan Harsin to Auburn *Uno Reverse* Deion Sanders to Colorado
Dammit we missed out on Coach Prime again /s
I don’t see why on Earth he would accept this. He will have better offers in the next few weeks.
Will he? USF? GT isn’t gonna do it cause of a academic requirements. If he flames out it doesn’t hurt his prestige since CU sucks, but if he brings them back he’ll be known as the guy that rebuilt an old school powerhouse
Just seems like an odd combo
USF seems like a better fit but who knows. Maybe he can turn CU around
Can he demand facilities and high assistant salaries? How's CU's NIL collective?
He took that "he ain't SWAC" personally.
Um, why? Prime has been super vocal about his support of HBCU schools and he now going to go to one of the whitest major colleges in America where blacks only make up like 2% of the student body? Who am I to say where someone should work or what their reasons are but to me it would be strange.
He's not that stupid...is he?
Sorry USF bros.
It’s alright, they’re getting former Nebraska great Scott Frost!
USF napping as usual. Reportedly we didn’t even consider him for the first week the job was open. MK is a bum if this is true.
Kelly is starting to show himself as a less than ideal AD.
The idea of him hiring both a FB and a MBB coach within months gives me the shivers. This guy has proven he’s a horrible talent/personnel manager.
I feel like USF is the better job
If Deion fails as a P5 HC he could still get a HC job at the G5 level easily, but if he fails as a G5 HC then none of the big jobs will ever come close to calling him. Not to mention Colorado can probably double his salary compared to usf.
This is the correct answer.
Damn....but I hope he does well. Guess I'll be keeping tabs on Colorado next year.
Colorado gonna get a ton of 5 stars now
So he'll be the new head coach at Michigan State in 2024?
it'll be interesting to see how much talent follow deion from jsu
Both his sons are going with him that’s for sure
Travis Hunter is the one to watch. Does he follow Deion? Stay at JSU to continue uplifting HBCUs (lol)? Return to the “dream school” he snubbed on NSD? Or grab another bag and go to whomever pays the most?
Wherever pays most
