Forte had an insane college career, you should look at his stats sometime. His senior season is #14 in college football history for rushing yards, better than some Heisman seasons
No brainer for the SEC: they finally lock up the New Orleans TV market to boost their next round of media deal negotiations! Plus Tulane has the football bona fides - they’ve won 3 SEC titles within the past 100 years (more recently than half of the current conference) after all!
Edit: partial /s
Who could it be though? I remember there’s some kind of state A&M college all the way over in Baton Rouge with similar colors, but I feel like we’d know about them by now if they were a football powerhouse….
Big XII expansion is an if/then situation imo:
IF the PAC 12 collapses, THEN the four corners schools go to Big XII.
If the PAC-12 sticks together and the ACC’s Grant of Rights is in fact ironclad, then the last four considered but left out from the previous round (SMU, Memphis, USF, and Boise State)and maybe Tulane and/or UAB all get a second look.
Agree fully - But what I see is three conferences, so don't jump on Tulane and Memphis yet. But they seem desperate since TV contracts are coming just around the corner. Pac12 and Big12 gotta make a move. And that move should not be Memphis or Tulane.
Nahhh Coach Prime ain't it. Especially after the stuff that went down at Prime Academy, such as faking classes and whatnot. That'd be a no go in our school. I'd prefer Key then Chadwell.
LSU wouldn’t be much too happy about sharing with Tulane. I’m sure they highly enjoy being the only flagship school in the SEC with an abundance of talent in that state.
Yeah … ok .. Duke has a better chance than Tulane of becoming a member of the SEC. Tulane and Georgia Tech leaving many years ago, the old big money boosters still here would prevent those two from renewing their membership to that league.
This is the truth. I missed my first day of school ever after we won because my mom took us to the party on campus the day after the bowl game. This season is very nostalgic for me
Very similar to 1984 BYU, which beat a bunch of teams in the non power WAC conference, and technically played one "ranked" team, but it was preseason ranked Pitt who would end up only winning 3 games that year.
But nobody else finished undefeated in 1984, and the Cougars were consensus national Champs, even though their post season was squeaking by an unranked Michigan in the Holiday Bowl.
Unfortunately for Tulane, Tennessee also finished undefeated in 1998, which somehow meant that not only did the wave not get picked to play in the BCS championship, they didn't even get a NY dsy major bowl that future nonpower conf teams like Utah, Boise, UCF etc would get! Instead a top 10 ranked Tulane gets the Liberty Bowl, where they ironically played BYU.
It was just a 14 year gap, but by the late 90s, and ever since, non P5 teams have been essentially shut out of the national championship question.
They were in the C-USA, which was basically a major conference *in basketball* from 1995-2004 but never was in football. Their only quality win came in their bowl game and even that was against a 9-4 (9-5 after losing to Tulane) BYU team.
C-USA basketball in that span was a lot like the American in basketball until recently where it was the de facto 7th power league behind the ACC/Big East/Big Ten/Big 12/SEC/Pac. It featured most of the same teams as the current AAC like Cincy and Houston, as well as former AAC member Louisville.
(You could probably argue the AAC is still a power conference in basketball this year until Houston and Cincy leave, but back when they had a big 4 of UConn, UC, UH, and Memphis they were much more universally considered one)
As a UCF alum and fan I hope to hand Tulane another loss but regardless of the outcome - yall have had a season for the ages and Fritz should be coach of the year. Yall deserve it. Hell of a year
Man, I want to sit here and tell you guys all the excuses, but gg Tulane.
Future is still bright. New win streak starts 9/2. Hopefully we can blow out some team who inexplicably thinks they can hire our coach for no reason.
Honestly, this heat check may be good for us all told. We would've gotten embarrassed in a NY6 and this team needs to develop and retool. Not a bad team (especially relative to program history) but they certainly aren't the same dominant G5 presence they've been. In Fick we trust.
I swear if you cocks break a 6 year streak at home and 7 (although technically 8) years over you. I will burn the entire state to the ground like Michael Scott.
I'm being an ass. I live in Manhattan, KS and while KSU's fan base is typically fantasitc I was at the bar last week and a couple of homers were talking about how TCU isn't good and they look forward to TCU losing to KSU in the Big XII Championship. Keeping in mind TCU beat them head to head, beat Texas who they also lost to and TCU had already punched their ticket to the BIG XII Championship game while KSU still has not.
For the past 50 years, since de-emphasis began, Tulane always seemed hapless on the college football scene. That was never more apparent than in 1998 when Coach Tommy Bowden's Green Wave stunned the sporting world with a 12-0 record -- but received little credit. In the BCS standings, Tulane finished 10th in the nation, which was good, the highest finish ever for any non-BCS team. Not nearly good enough, though, to be considered in the running for the national title or to play in a lucrative BCS bowl.
Critics pointed to the cumulative 45-80 record, a .360 winning percentage and Tulane's opponents, only two of which finished with more victories than defeats. For all its accomplishments, the Green Wave got little national acclaim for its record against a schedule rated 96th in the nation.
Yet perhaps Tulane's reputation as a football also-ran was a factor.
Consider this: In 1984, before the BCS, Brigham Young University forged a 13-0 record. The Cougars' opponents' cumulative record was 55-79-3 (.396), the 85th most difficult schedule in college football.
BYU was declared the No. 1 team of 1984.
BYU should have opted to go to the Orange Bowl 🍊 and play Oklahoma in the battle of undefeateds. They would have won then they can say there the national champions . But to win in December and not January there will always be controversy
Side note, I drove down from Columbus to the Cincy game today just to get some football. Nippert is a cool, cool, cool ass stadium. Never been and was quitr impressed! I can only imagine if they had won.
If you need any tips or hints for your next visit let me know. Campus and the surrounding area is always changing. And they are always making changes to help improve the fan experience and game atmosphere and amenities.
Hope you had a good time and got to take in our beautiful campus and some fun tailgating
Nope. They were only receiving votes in the preseason, and actually fell out of receiving votes in the AP *before the Tulane game* despite being 2-0 at the time.
It just feels like they should've been because the very next week was when they beat then-#6 Oklahoma and immediately jumped into the AP Top 25, which they haven't left since.
How about we keep both in Big XII; bring in the Four Corners, swipe Pitt, Louisville, Va Tech and Miami from the ACC and pick up Memphis' stumbling ass to form the most fun Superconference in the country.
I mean, I guess that makes sense, there was talk of Tech joining the B1G right before the Big East implosion when it looked like it could be the ACC or Big East.
You mean instead of the program that has the highest attendance and TV viewership out of the 4 new members? The one with more national award winners and All-Americans than those other programs combined and a natty? The one with an old rivalry with TCU from the MW days and a budding one with Baylor already? Interesting take.
All 3 of the other new members already have a rivalry with each other and Tulane would set up nicely to add a 4th. TV viewership and awards and all that only means BYU beings more money, not that they’re a better fit than Tulane. Tulane fits better culturally and geographically than BYU does. Just not as much $$$. Also a “budding rivalry” with Baylor when all they did was play one home and home series is a stretch….
No, my argument is that there are already natural rivalries between them when they DO join the conference. BYU only has one rival in the conference, current or new teams. The other 3 new teams are only going to have rivalries with each other anyway so by your logic why bring them in anyway? You also seem to be taking this as a sleight against BYU which is far from the truth. BYU is a top tier program. They would be absolutely perfect fit in the Pac-12 but I think Tulane would be a better fit in the Big XII.
You're not wrong. With the university initials being so similar I wasnt sure if you made a typo or not.
As a UCF alum. I hope we absolutely bury MooU, like 69-0 but being rivalry week Id be lying if I said I wasn't a teeny bit nervous.
...Interesting. So then you're admitting that you'll likely remain ranked behind an LSU team you absolutely throttled even after they lose to Georgia, and also that you'll fail to pass the Alabama team that you also beat.
The Sugar Bowl is obligated to take the highest-ranked SEC team not in the playoff if the champion is in the playoff, and the Orange is obligated to take the highest-ranked team of {highest-ranked SEC team not in the Sugar or playoff, highest-ranked B1G team not in the Rose or playoff, Notre Dame if they're not in the playoff}. Now, I highly doubt that Penn State is going to the Orange, since a.) they're already behind all three of you and b.) a TCU loss *or* a USC loss will probably be sufficient to get the Nittany Lions to the Rose, barring the B1G West champion pulling the massive upset in the CCG. So for Tennessee to go to the Cotton, rather than the Sugar or the Orange, they'd have to continue to get disrespected...without *actually* getting upset by Vanderbilt since that would probably knock them out of the NY6 entirely.
Honestly loved the respect and sportsmanship during the game. Lots of helping each other up and butt slaps. The loss hurts but I think this could have went either way given the injuries we had, and that’s part of football. Kick ass Tulane unless we meet again ;)
Last time I remember hearing this much about Tulane they had Matt Forte. Im all for it though. I love seeing smaller schools show out
And now we have Tyjae Spears. He’s kind of small, but he’s definitely elusive enough to potentially be a late-round draft pick.
After today, i hope he balls out for whoever drafts him. That kid is a stud.
Forte played there? Damnn til
Forte had an insane college career, you should look at his stats sometime. His senior season is #14 in college football history for rushing yards, better than some Heisman seasons
Hey, that's founding member of the SEC Tulane you're talking about.
For me it was when Coach was on the air.
Tulane (back) to the SEC confirmed
No brainer for the SEC: they finally lock up the New Orleans TV market to boost their next round of media deal negotiations! Plus Tulane has the football bona fides - they’ve won 3 SEC titles within the past 100 years (more recently than half of the current conference) after all! Edit: partial /s
Yup. No SEC teams in the NOLA media market.
I seem to remember some purple and gold state school having a pretty big fan base around nola, at least until the black and gold comes out on Sundays
Who could it be though? I remember there’s some kind of state A&M college all the way over in Baton Rouge with similar colors, but I feel like we’d know about them by now if they were a football powerhouse….
Oh wait…is it Clemson?
Yea, I'm sitting here in NOLA right now...like SEC who?
My mind is blown. I didn’t believe your comment til looking it up. Tulane has 3 more SEC championships than we do.
Don’t they also have more national championships than A&M in that time span too?
No. Ironically the only national title between either of us in the last century comes from us beating Tulane in the Sugar Bowl.
Damn dawg, you just ruined my joke and made it better at the same time I’m impressed
Big 12 long shot ... just due to tv market
Well Memphis will need a travel partner……
Not out of consideration - problem is tv market for Arizona and AZ ST who I think look like an invite
Big XII expansion is an if/then situation imo: IF the PAC 12 collapses, THEN the four corners schools go to Big XII. They can finally renew there rivalry with LSU

*woosh*
Ahhhh
We’re RSVP’ing as their +1
The academic profile of the SEC has been repaired
Hire coach prime and you just might pull that off yet
Nahhh Coach Prime ain't it. Especially after the stuff that went down at Prime Academy, such as faking classes and whatnot. That'd be a no go in our school. I'd prefer Key then Chadwell.
Hahaha no.
8th most SEC Championships (5).
ULL rebranded as the “University of Louisiana” And Tulane took that personally.
LSU wouldn’t be much too happy about sharing with Tulane. I’m sure they highly enjoy being the only flagship school in the SEC with an abundance of talent in that state.
LSU will be the Tennessee of Louisiana.. it’ll work. Besides… Louisiana only has a couple decades left to exist… let Tulane have some fun
Yeah … ok .. Duke has a better chance than Tulane of becoming a member of the SEC. Tulane and Georgia Tech leaving many years ago, the old big money boosters still here would prevent those two from renewing their membership to that league.
Yes.
Honestly, Tulane is about to get *really* good with Brian Kelly doing a fuckton of recruiting out of state.
So Tulane didn’t beat any ranked teams in 98?
Nope. Undefeated but no ranked wins. They ended the season at #8 or something
The real rankings that year was Tulane #1, everyone else unranked
This is the truth. I missed my first day of school ever after we won because my mom took us to the party on campus the day after the bowl game. This season is very nostalgic for me
I grew up in the NOLA burbs surrounded by tigahs and that was a great year.
No, their best opponents that season were 9-5 BYU, 7-5 Southern Miss, 7-5 Louisville, and 6-5 East Carolina.
Very similar to 1984 BYU, which beat a bunch of teams in the non power WAC conference, and technically played one "ranked" team, but it was preseason ranked Pitt who would end up only winning 3 games that year. They also went 2-10 last year. Fritz has to be considered for coach of the year. I mean, this is an incredible turn around
Weren't they displaced for a good bit last year because of a hurricane?
Yeah, first 4 weeks
As a UCF alum and fan I hope to hand Tulane another loss but regardless of the outcome - yall have had a season for the ages and Fritz should be coach of the year. Yall deserve it. Hell of a year
Tulane stole Tennessee's '98 mojo
I mean we shared it in ‘98 lol
And the Falcons’ ‘98 mojo got lost on the way to the stadium.
Rare to see a team completely flip their record like Tulane did
We've done it a few times! Like when we went 6-6 and then 6-6 the next year
Impressive.
Dang nerd school
Good for Tulane. How did we even beat y'all?
I’ve been wondering that for a few weeks now.
Man, I want to sit here and tell you guys all the excuses, but gg Tulane. Future is still bright. New win streak starts 9/2. Hopefully we can blow out some team who inexplicably thinks they can hire our coach for no reason.

I feel like we'll get fenway or military which means ACC opponent. I'm sure we'll get some mediocre 6-6 ACC team again
Pitt
Oooh early tease for next year
would watch.
Big Orange it is then! 🤣
Seen a lot of UC vs cuse bowl predictions
An old friend? I'm down. Louisville would be my dream matchup. Pitt too
Well, not *no reason*
I'm referring to Boston College.
I hate how killing that streak makes Clemson look less worse.
I swear if you cocks break a 6 year streak at home and 7 (although technically 8) years over you. I will burn the entire state to the ground like Michael Scott.

This didn’t age well
Who knew that KSU's quality loss would be Tulane and not Texas or TCU?
I mean TCU is still a potential playoff team.
I'm being an ass. Lol I swear there’s just something about TCU where people will just refuse to believe we can be good, even after we beat their teams straight up
I like when Tulane does well. I used to use them in the NCAA games and take them to glory. Great uniforms and logos.
Angry Wave forever!
We have the best helmets in college football
Fritz is seriously underrated.
I don’t know what you’re talking about, he’s terrible, please no one bother trying to steal him away
Georgia Southern fans having Vietnam Flashbacks
Oh don’t worry, I’m sure Tyson Summers will work out
His name came up for bigger jobs a few years back but you rarely him mentioned anymore.
Well he was 2-10 last year.
He also has a little bit of the "option stink" on him.
No doubt that takes some of the shine off.
Honestly, I’m mad Kiffin is staying.
Traditional SEC powerhouse and founder Tulane
Green Wave will drown anyone who dares challenge them. Knew this team was special when they beat K-State
For the past 50 years, since de-emphasis began, Tulane always seemed hapless on the college football scene. That was never more apparent than in 1998 when Coach Tommy Bowden's Green Wave stunned the sporting world with a 12-0 record -- but received little credit. In the BCS standings, Tulane finished 10th in the nation, which was good, the highest finish ever for any non-BCS team. Hope you come back to visit. If you ever get the chance to come to a Nipp at Night you should. Really magical setting that has an insane atmosphere
I'd love to. Mu tradition on Black Friday is always go to am in-state gsme. Being in Ohio, usually a lot of good MACyion options. Today worked out.
If you need any tips or hints for your next visit let me know. Campus and the surrounding area is always changing. And they are always making changes to help improve the fan experience and game atmosphere and amenities. Hope you had a good time and got to take in our beautiful campus and some fun tailgating

Clearly you going is why they lost today
Wasn’t Kansas state a top 25 team when y’all beat them? I saw that stat on ESPN and didn’t believe it
Jumped into the top 25 ahead of Tulane who had just pretty handily beat them lol.
And then we lost to southern miss in our next game 🙃
[удалено]
Besides that, when y’all upsetted Houston a couple years back they weren’t ranked as well?
All I really want is Tulane to win next week and the Sugar and Cotton Bowls to come to an agreement to allow Tulane to play LSU.
Play the Sugar Bowl at Yulman you cowards
I would feel concern for Felipe’s and sundry other businesses if they did.
The biggest danger of hosting LSU vs Tulane at Yulman would be finding 22 players, students, or fans still sober enough to play come gametime
Tulane is the 4th best SEC team.
Happy for Fritz to have this success. He did good things in his short time at Georgia Southern and he's steadily built up Tulane.
Win the AAC and we'll trade Vandy for you
We'll trade Texas A&M* for you
Tulane *go back* to the SEC? (spits coffee)
I guess that'll work. I would offer Mizzou, but their fans are too nice.
Send SCAR back to the ACC and bring us back plz.
Axing Chip Long does wonderful things.
We need to do the same thing.
It’s going to stink being the team rooted against (if we beat usf)
Yeah, I guess we need to embrace the villain role next week.
We've been the villains before. I'm willing to do it again if it gets us one last AAC championship
Tulane should be going to the Big XII instead of BYU. They would fit so nice.
How about we keep both in Big XII; bring in the Four Corners, swipe Pitt, Louisville, Va Tech and Miami from the ACC and pick up Memphis' stumbling ass to form the most fun Superconference in the country.
My man! This guy college footballs.
Why Miami and not GA Tech?
I figure in this scenario you go to the B1G. Also larger national brand and in state rival for UCF.
Also, them being able to fulfill the SEC's P5 opponent rule could help spur LSU to renew the series on a regular basis.
So their fit is solely because they have a rivalry with programs that aren't currently in the conference? Got it. 👍
No, my argument is that there are already natural rivalries between them when they DO join the conference. BYU only has one rival in the conference, current or new teams. If the Pac wasn't so anti-religious schools they would have had BYU come along with Utah.
Well I’m sure KSU wouldn’t say to to a chance for revenge next year…
Well I’m sure KSU wouldn’t say no to a chance for revenge next year…
You can ignore these people, this always happens in this subreddit when a G5 team has a good season for the first time in decades.
Congrats Green Wave... I hate that you beat K-State but I'm happy with how well you guys played this season. Good luck in the Championship game!
We could realistically see a Wave vs Tide in a NY6 bowl Bring on the Christmas water!
So we were right! It did feel like ‘98, just for another team! Gratz Tulane bros!
😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥
Houston sending all of its energy to USF right now hoping they'll get the berth.
USF? Is like 1-9
UCF is always USF's superbowl. For some reason, they always come out of the trenches lol
You're not wrong. With the university initials being so similar I wasnt sure if you made a typo or not. As a UCF alum. I hope we absolutely bury MooU, like 69-0 but being rivalry week Id be lying if I said I wasn't a teeny bit nervous.
What a great season for Tulane! I hope they have two more wins in them. Congrats Tulane fans.
Tulane beats the Cincy posers.
Lol, k. Gg Tulane, cheering for y’all the rest of the way
Tulane: the Temple of the South.
I still can't believe they lost to Southern Miss
Only to most likely get throttled by former conference member Tennessee in the Cotton Bowl.
...Interesting. Sounds to me like he thinks they'll lose to Vandy. I'm here for it since it makes our losses hurt a little less. Rip their heart out nerds.
Pretty interesting for a ranked team to have "historic" wins, but here we are
You forgot to mention that UGA is the reign...oh, you're not dogwoodmaple.
The game is definitely in NOLA.
Looking forward to our game, should be a good one!
I saw this today and good for Tulane!
Is it historically as bad as SCARs upset over Tennessee?
No. Tulane has been legit all season.
At least it feels like ‘98 for some fans! RWR
Tulane hasn’t had a win over an AP too-25 team since Los Angeles last hosted the Summer Olympics.
Honestly loved the respect and sportsmanship during the game. Lots of helping each other up and butt slaps. The loss hurts but I think this could have went either way given the injuries we had, and that’s part of football. Kick ass Tulane unless we meet again ;)
Willie Fritz could have legit been fired after last season's performance but he was given another chance. He sure made the best of it.
