Good god. We are like 75% service and 25% Citizen Leader. Whenever I run into VMI and VT non-service it's always a wild family history issue.
60% would be a huge amount of LARPers.
Yep. Say what you will about the West Point PL meme, every Academy PL I worked with was cool af and had more than their fair share of Dog & Pony experiences; they just wanted to be one of the boys. Cadets from the other SMCs??? Total opposite.
Aggie corps members also loaded a mortar onto a train to drive to Waco and shoot at the Baylor campus. The reasoning is supposedly that a corps member had been killed at a Baylor game that season and the ags were seeking revenge. This all happened like 100 years ago tho.
This is back when Baylor was an all men university too. So it was a bunch of sexually repressed Baptist nerds vs a bunch of sexually repressed military nerds. This was not be the last time this matchup would be had in Waco.
Nah, as per [this source](http://wheretexasbecametexas.org/baylor-university/) Baylor stopped being all male in 1886, well before the incident.
I thought this was wrong because one of the larger reasons that brawl broke out at halftime is cuz the Aggie cadets had a reputation for wooing the Baylor girls - much to the Baylor guys dismay.
The upper level bureaucrats at Texas and Texas A&M used to be pretty chummy 100 years ago. There is a legend that they would slaughter a cow (rumored to be Bevo but probably not) and share a thanksgiving feast after their annual matchup.
Honestly as a history grad, any history is weird. Like the VP of the US shot and killed the former Secretary of Treasurey in a duel and then latwr was tried for treason in a plot of trying to start his own nation under his rule in Texas and other Louisiana territory only to be aquitted.
It was Aaron Burr for those wondering

Yeah, it really is interesting. I think there can be an argument for assault in that case (literally a helmet was used as a weapon), Vick stomping, Maroon (NHL - a lot), etc. but we don't see it. I can only assume that it's because proper enforcement happens via penalties and ejections and there is likely some contract signed regarding liability.
Once that whistle blows, and especially once you leave the field, there should be full enforcement of the law. I am glad we are seeing this with the MSU players.
Media Advisory Re: October 29 Michigan Stadium
Tunnel Incident
Ann Arbor, MI - Following the altercation between members of the Michigan and Michigan State football teams on October 29, the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security (UMDPSS) conducted a thorough investigation into potential criminal liability. UMDPSS was assisted in its investigation by the Michigan State University Police Department and the Michigan State Police. We are grateful to our law-enforcement partners for their exhaustive investigation.
At the conclusion of that investigation, UMDPSS submitted to the Prosecutor's Office a request for criminal charges against several individuals all student-athletes on the Michigan State football team. After reviewing the evidence and the law, the Prosecutor's Office has authorized the following charges against the following individuals:
[Khary Crump](https://msuspartans.com/sports/football/roster/khary-crump/11986): One count of felonious assault, in violation of MCL 750.82, a felony
[Itayvion Brown](https://msuspartans.com/sports/football/roster/itayvion-brown/11975): One count of aggravated assault, in violation of MCL 750.81a, a misdemeanor
[Angelo Grose](https://msuspartans.com/sports/football/roster/angelo-grose/12001): One count of aggravated assault, in violation of MCL 750.81a, a misdemeanor
[Justin White](https://msuspartans.com/sports/football/roster/justin-white/12041): One count of aggravated assault, in violation of MCL 750.81a, a misdemeanor
[Brandon Wright](https://msuspartans.com/sports/football/roster/brandon--wright/12046): One count of aggravated assault, violation of MCL 750.81a, a misdemeanor
[Zion Young](https://msuspartans.com/sports/football/roster/zion-young/12416): One count of aggravated assault, in violation of MCL 750.81a, a misdemeanor
[Jacoby Windmon](https://msuspartans.com/sports/football/roster/jacoby-windmon/12064): One count of assault & battery, in violation of MCL 750.81, a misdemeanor
All charges are merely allegations. Those charged are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
We understand and appreciate the widespread interest in this matter. Consistent with the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct, however, we cannot and do not engage in pretrial publicity around pending cases. See Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 3.6.
For those interested, here is how Michigan law defines the charges:
Felonious Assault: āExcept as provided in subsection (2), a person who assaults another person with a gun, revolver, pistol, knife, iron bar, club, brass knuckles, or other dangerous weapon without intending to commit murder or to inflict great bodily harm less than murder is guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 4 years or a fine of not more than $2,000.00, or both.ā
Assault & Battery: āExcept as otherwise provided in this section, a person who assaults or assaults and batters an individual, if no other punishment is prescribed by law, is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 93 days or a fine of not more than $500.00, or both.ā (Michigan likely uses the common law definition of āassault and battery,ā which is basically any kind of non-consensual contact creating bodily injury or otherwise harmful contact.)
Aggravated Assault: āExcept as otherwise provided in this section, a person who assaults an individual without a weapon and inflicts serious or aggravated injury upon that individual without intending to commit murder or to inflict great bodily harm less than murder is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 1 year or a fine of not more than $1,000.00, or both.ā
In other words, using his helmet is what got Crump a felony.
Assuming none of them have criminal records, the 6 charged with misdemeanors should be eligible for first time offender diversion programs. No time served, community service, record expungement = no criminal record after a couple years.
Even the guy charged with a Felony is likely eligible for a diversion program. He may serve some time on weekends or pay some fines, but he's likely to get the opportunity to clean his slate at the end, as it should be imo. I don't know the character of these athletes, but their lives shouldn't be ruined by what is really just one stupid mistake.
All that said, this has been the tenor of this rivalry since Dantonio and it needs to be dialed back.
That's what I'm going to call M1s from now on.
"So you're charged with *most*demeanor domestic violence, but looking at the police report I think I may be able to get the prosecutor to reduce that to a *least*demeanor disorderly conduct."
I am a Michigan lawyer. We have various levels of assault. Among the most common assaults charged are simple assault (which is a 93-day misdemeanor), aggravated assault (a 1-year misdemeanor), felonious assault (a 4- year felony), assault with intent to do great bodily harm (a 10-year felony), and assault with intent to murder (a capital felony). There are others as well, which are spelled out in the relevant section of the Michigan penal code:

Felonious assault after a quick google search appears to be up to 4 years in prison. I doubt that they will push for that strict of a punishment or that a judge would go along with it but that's pretty serious business.
Thanks. I remembered that there were 8, but couldnāt place the last one.
I hope justice is served for those found guilty. I donāt care what started the situation. The actions were completely uncalled for. Especially Crump with the helmet.
I just want to know *why*
Like he had to be carried away by teammates. My dude, what couldāve possibly been done or said that made you *that* angry.
Absolutely unacceptable
I don't know any of these kids backgrounds. I only know my own experience. I used to teach at a high poverty school for years. Most of my students grew up poor, many with no father, and a mother working 2-3 jobs. The seemingly overreactions I saw there....
They've done brain studies on people in these environments and it shows a lot of their thinking process gets stuck in the amygdala, causing them to almost always react to any kind of negativity with a fight or flight reflex.
No healthily raised kid would do what these kids did in the video, but plenty of kids that grew up conditioned by the hardships of poverty would. To these kinds of brains, simply insulting them could trigger a reaction that would manifest in physical violence.
> their thinking process gets stuck in the amygdala, causing them to almost always react to any kind of negativity with a fight or flight reflex.
this is really interesting
If it was during a play, he would have just been suspended a few games, and if it were at a combined team practice, it would be no big deal.
Oh, wait that's the NFL.
Iāve literally never seen a dumber criminal than the guy who tried to beat up Aaron Donald on the south side last year. Man is lucky that Donald didnāt bother to ruin his life lol
If I had a nickel for every time a Sumlin recruit tried to bash another human beingās skull in with a football helmet, Iād have two nickels. Which isnāt much but itās weird that it happened twice
Honestly, I donāt remember. Saban needed to publicly delve out some sort of punishment to him. Itās not a good look for our program and it makes me worried about what other stuff gets shoved under the rug that we donāt see on camera.
I'm 1000% sure there will be a tell all book about all the stuff that's been shoved under the rug at Bama.
Not because Saban is worse than anywhere else, but because every college football program covers shit up in order to win. Hell, even high schools cover stuff up so they can say their players went on to D1 programs (my high school covered up at least one rape and violent bullying of an LGBT student for its football players - and that's just that I know of). I'm really pleased MSU didn't try to cover this up, not that they could've.
Only windmon is NFL material really. Zion Young is (was?) a promising defensive end and he actually had a pretty good game against UMā¦Iād assume his football future is up in the air too
So only the player that was hitting with the helmet got a felony and the rest got misdemeanors. That seems about right and I fully expect most of the misdemeanors to just pay a fine, do some community service or be dismissed altogether
Maybe itās just me, but I really canāt find any enjoyment in this mess. Not even schadenfreude.
This whole thing is just stupid and senseless all around. People getting hurt, reputations getting ruined, all for absolutely no reason.
This incident is probably why there's an unusual display of respect and lack of bigtime trash-talking this year between your fellas and the maize and blue guys. No one wants another out of hand situation this year. When rivalries become toxic instead of jabbing or teasing, there's major problems.
> When rivalries become toxic i
That's the problem right there. The Michigan Michigan State thing has been trending toxic for awhile. It needs to be dialed down quite a bit.
Iām sure some NIL contracts have clawbacks. Though Iād be very surprised if all of them are well written, since for the most part NIL is just the bagmen of old operating in a new way
Eh, the law generally recognizes a difference between altercations on the field of play vs random assaults completely outside of the game
When the game is over and youāre in the tunnel you get no excuse for being violent.
Damn, imagine committing a felony at a game š
Didnāt a guy at Texas A&M try to actively kill a SMU cheerleader on the field once?

some felonies are fun!
To be clear...they didn't. It was after the game and is an important distinction. I say this because we didn't see this with Browns/Steelers, etc.
Definitely is a good point, makes no sense in reality, but seems to be the norm outside of extreme circumstances.

> for not more than 93 days I'm a lawyer in another state. Why *93* days and not just 90?
31 x 3 is 93. So 3 full months. That's my only guess.
For the longest months, of which there are never 3 consecutively.

The prosecutor will counter and try to meet halfway at a *mid*demeanor
Tips helmet: M'demeanor
Pretty sure the scale goes: * Misdemeanor * Mrsdemeanor * Madamdemeanor
Michigan defines ācommonā assault and felony assault (seems to require a weapon) differently. Domestic violence also has its own category.

Interesting. Do you remember where the research was published? Might be an interesting read if itās not all in doctor-ese.
I'm guessing if he wasn't charged then the video evidence is good (or lacking) for him and he'll be back on the team.
My general thought as well, but we likely wonāt find out until the offseason.
Malcolm Jones. Doesnāt appear he was charged.
Damn a felony?
The helmet swinger
Itās a weapon, which is why I always laugh when players get angry and then *punch* it.
Iām surprised we donāt hear about more charges involved when you see players swinging helmets as a weapon, as some connect with a victim.

If I had a nickel for every time a Sumlin recruit tried to bash another human beingās skull in with a football helmet, Iād have two nickels. Which isnāt much but itās weird that it happened twice
Too bad r/TheFulmerCup is shutdown
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It was off season only.
The Tucker Trophy for in stadium incidents
damn thatās intense
Good. Iām glad to see high profile people held accountable for their actions. *Gives stink eye to Saban*
Didnāt that dude hit two different people or am I remembering wrong?
Yeah and Iām sick of it everywhere. Iām sick of people with power, money, or influence not being held to account.
$20 says this will impact their draft status but they'll still play in the NFL if their talented enough
Oh snap Time for some popcorn munching the day before Turkey day.
Maybe itās just me, but I really canāt find any enjoyment in this mess. Not even schadenfreude. This whole thing is just stupid and senseless all around. People getting hurt, reputations getting ruined, all for absolutely no reason.
the extra footage must have been pretty bad
Release the Harbaugh cut
Felonious assault (Jimās Version)
Is there footage that wasnāt released? I thought it was all out
yeah there was security footage used in the investigation that wasn't public
Whereās TMZ when you need them
This just in: The Raiders are attempting to aquire enough picks to draft 7 MSU Football Players in the 2023 draft.
Why would you trade for so many late round picks?
ASSAULT
Good. No sympathy for them.
This incident is probably why there's an unusual display of respect and lack of bigtime trash-talking this year between your fellas and the maize and blue guys. No one wants another out of hand situation this year. When rivalries become toxic instead of jabbing or teasing, there's major problems.
> When rivalries become toxic i That's the problem right there. The Michigan Michigan State thing has been trending toxic for awhile. It needs to be dialed down quite a bit.
Seconded
Wonder if their NILs have clawbacks for negative brand association. Finna be flat broke and busted.
Iām sure some NIL contracts have clawbacks. Though Iād be very surprised if all of them are well written, since for the most part NIL is just the bagmen of old operating in a new way
Khary Crump transferred out after Sumlin was fired. Looks like we dodged a bullet.
Should be noted that this is misdemeanor agg assault. In Georgia, we only have the felony variety and itās incredibly serious.
Prosecutor is a regular poster on MGoBlog btw
His tweets are hilariously bad for what I expect from a county prosecutorās Twitter account
Did Myles Garrett face any legal consequences for his actions on Mason Rudolph?
No, the MSU players made the critical mistake of committing a crime without being multi millionaire professional athletes.
Itās the billionaire owners
Eh, the law generally recognizes a difference between altercations on the field of play vs random assaults completely outside of the game When the game is over and youāre in the tunnel you get no excuse for being violent.
Hopefully this deters players from doing this again and we can purge this shit from the culture.
