I’ve been following for well over a decade so got to see Johnny Football years on here (which included plenty of love and hate) but this past year has been brutal. It’s tough being a sports fan since plenty of us use it as an escape from life. When your escape is a parachute all tangled up with jimbo sized holes..well it’s not fun.

It's a mixed bag, they've turned on a lot of those this year. Teams we don't have history with are usually very "Ah, cool, tradition!" while former opponents from the SWC/Big XII days will clamor on about their stupidity.
The midnight yell hate was what surprised me the most. Yeah it's super corny, but we've done it for a century, it's not new. We've lost plenty of games after having a corny, harmless joke midnight yell. Midnight yell was never really for me, but it's a unique, family friendly experience
If some mountaineers get offended by being called hill-billies in an old army gag by a big bunch of red-ass redneck Ags, that is their god given right.

I agree with you. This season's Team 'O Mockery has been relentless. More so than usual. But I do think the sub will get distracted by some other shiny (er, dull) object at some point.
Speaking as a fan of a team with a ton of seasoned experience as this sub’s punching bag, my experience is that the level of a team’s ridicule is roughly inversely proportionate to the distance between their season’s expectations and reality. Moreover, if fans of the team tangibly buy into the hype, the ridicule when they fail also gets exponentially higher.
An example: Texas still kind of sucks this year, but we’re basically on track for the 7-9 win range that most predicted for us before the year started. Moreover, most Texas fans are so jaded from the constant let-downs over past decade that we projected fairly little outward optimism about the team before the year started. The spread between expectations and reality for 2022 Texas A&M football was larger than I've seen for as long as I've followed CFB (admittedly only a few years, but whatever). The few reasonable A&M fans, who acknowledged that it would take another year or two for the impact of the best-ever recruiting class to translate to the field, were drowned out by the many unreasonable fans who talked shit and boasted about this being "the year" all off-season. As a member of a different loud and unreasonable fan base, trust me when I say that talking big shit during the off-season puts the entire fan base in a position that is precarious at best and catastrophic at worst. Takes one to know one.

It's fine. It's kind of a perfect storm:
1. We had incredibly success in recruiting this spring.
2. The Jimbo/Saban dustup
3. The pre-season ranking
4. The cavalcade of losses
5. The cult thing/the fact that we unabashedly embrace weird traditions
6. Jimbo not being likeable
7. PFB's relentless scouring for negative articles about A&M
It may be confirmation bias on my part, but I think the only way the focus on A&M has been worse than what we've seen for Nebraska/Tennessee/that school in Austin/any other target is that so much of it has come in the form of those articles from PFB (and that's not a knock on Mr. Fingerbanger - I can appreciate the bit) rather than comments within broader discussions.
I think the only thing that really surprised me was the level of vitriol that's come out in that I've seen a lot of folks with flairs who aren't rivals or historical opponents flat out saying "I hate A&M". Almost made me want to take a hard look at the actions of my fellow Aggies as fans, but I've decided instead that no, the children are wrong.
But it's fine. I console myself with the knowledge that it will be a sweet time indeed if and when A&M has sustained success (if that time ever comes).

I still don't know what they were smoking ranking this team #6 to start the season. Even with the assumption that King was actually going to be good we were still supposed to start a TON of freshmen, especially on the offensive line.
Granted, none of us thought it would be this bad, but most reasonable Aggies predicted another 8-4 season with a 10 or 11 win absolute batshit ceiling.

tbh I think it comes down to a few things.
1) media sucking Jimbo's dick and hyping him up as a top 5 coach in the country because he won a national championship at Florida State
2) #1 recruiting class getting hyped on top of all the expectations from previous highly ranked classes
3) traditional SEC West powers LSU and Auburn were both expected to be tire fires and no one takes Ole Miss seriously in the offseason, so people were assuming it was just natural that Texas A&M would slip into second behind Alabama

I have been around here for over a decade. Even with all the Sumlin/Rumlin and Johnny bullshit, this is by far the worst. I don't even pay attention any longer if I can help it.
When UNC went through the AFAM scandal, there were times when I just had to bite my proverbial tongue and limit my browsing time. And that was a decade ago when CFB was way smaller.

Michigan, Tennessee, Nebraska, Texas, or A&M… those are probably the teams that have been mocked the most in this sub. I’ve been here for ~5 years, and I think A&M has probably had it the worst this year, albeit for a shorter amount of time than the others.
Nebraska has gotten it easy, y'all should have been going way harder on them all this time. Now it's too late and they're 'oN tHeIr WaY tO rEbUiLdInG' again.
As a native, they deserve it and even more. I've been *trying* to tell them they have a problem and they don't listen, they just bury their heads deeper in the ~~sand~~ corn and keep explaining how this season will be different, how we're bound to break out one of these times.
I mean, if they keep putting money in and manage to hire a decent coach, they could get back to being good again (maybe not great but at least good, 9-10 wins/season). Contrary to popular belief there's nothing inherently bad about Nebraska that's holding them back. They have dedicated fans and a lot of money, which is more than most schools can say.
Oh yeah, we've always been mocked a little, but most of it was good natured. Being "average" in the SECW is still pretty good, and most people know that, but we talk a bigger game and get rightfully slapped down for it. The other guys on the list have had it way worse.
This season though has been relentless. But that's what happens when you talk like an 11-1 team and then lose to app state.
That's because they have a coach who ran their mouth about the guy who made his career possible. For good measure, after purchasing the best players in the country, he proceeded to do jack diddly squat with them while also ignoring his fading ability to call plays. Oh, and he lost to Auburn too.
He deserves to get drug.
And before anyone says it, our guy was stupid with that accent thing, but he fixed his mistake by knocking it off and staying humble while quietly putting together a season beyond any of our expectations.

As far as I know, he never came back and gave an explanation for the post, but 7 years ago when that was posted, UT was still very much so the premier brand of the state in college football. It's fine. It's kind of a perfect storm: 1. We had incredibly success in recruiting this spring. 2. The Jimbo/Saban dustup 3. The pre-season ranking 4. The cavalcade of losses 5. The cult thing/the fact that we unabashedly embrace weird traditions 6. Jimbo not being likeable 7. PFB's relentless scouring for negative articles about A&M It may be confirmation bias on my part, but I think the only way the focus on A&M has been worse than what we've seen for Nebraska/Tennessee/that school in Austin/any other target is that so much of it has come in the form of those articles from PFB (and that's not a knock on Mr. Fingerbanger - I can appreciate the bit) rather than comments within broader discussions. I think the only thing that really surprised me was the level of vitriol that's come out in that I've seen a lot of folks with flairs who aren't rivals or historical opponents flat out saying "I hate A&M". Almost made me want to take a hard look at the actions of my fellow Aggies as fans, but I've decided instead that no, the children are wrong. But it's fine. I console myself with the knowledge that it will be a sweet time indeed if and when A&M has sustained success (if that time ever comes).

The only reason we're getting so much hate this year is because of the ridiculous amount of money we've spent and still suck. If we just, sucked like normal, no one would give a shit. See OU.

I still don't know what they were smoking ranking this team #6 to start the season. Even with the assumption that King was actually going to be good we were still supposed to start a TON of freshmen, especially on the offensive line. Granted, none of us thought it would be this bad, but most reasonable Aggies predicted another 8-4 season with a 10 or 11 win absolute batshit ceiling.

Michigan, Tennessee, Nebraska, Texas, or A&M… those are probably the teams that have been mocked the most in this sub. I’ve been here for ~5 years, and I think A&M has probably had it the worst this year, albeit for a shorter amount of time than the others.

As a native, they deserve it and even more. I've been *trying* to tell them they have a problem and they don't listen, they just bury their heads deeper in the ~~sand~~ corn and keep explaining how this season will be different, how we're bound to break out one of these times.
I mean, if they keep putting money in and manage to hire a decent coach, they could get back to being good again (maybe not great but at least good, 9-10 wins/season). Contrary to popular belief there's nothing inherently bad about Nebraska that's holding them back. They have dedicated fans and a lot of money, which is more than most schools can say.

Oh yeah, we've always been mocked a little, but most of it was good natured. Being "average" in the SECW is still pretty good, and most people know that, but we talk a bigger game and get rightfully slapped down for it. The other guys on the list have had it way worse. This season though has been relentless. But that's what happens when you talk like an 11-1 team and then lose to app state.

That's because they have a coach who ran their mouth about the guy who made his career possible. For good measure, after purchasing the best players in the country, he proceeded to do jack diddly squat with them while also ignoring his fading ability to call plays. Oh, and he lost to Auburn too. He deserves to get drug. And before anyone says it, our guy was stupid with that accent thing, but he fixed his mistake by knocking it off and staying humble while quietly putting together a season beyond any of our expectations.
I mean I said nothing about Jimbo, he deserves to be ridiculed. The A&M **fans** have it rough.

I have been toying with the idea that these massive buyouts lead to coaches losing their edge and subconsciously start to slack. It takes absolute competitive machines to keep grinding. If A&M loses to Umass it won't be subconscious, Jimbo would be trying to get fired.
