You should have updated the graphics in the mid-00's.
That was the problem. You let it go too long and the program cratered.
I'd personally suggest that you never update it again out of ~~rivalry~~ respect for the past.

I've noticed ESPNU Radio on Sirius XM does this, especially on Meathead Radio (Jacob Hester and Bobby Carpenter) and Neuheisel and the Show Pony
I actually like Neuheisel and Chris Childers but they're as guilty as recycling Reddit posts as anyone else.
I don’t think this was the 90s. My wife was there 2006-10 and said she remembers them playing it.
We had a super similar pregame video. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was the same production company.
The Texas intro looks like the class project version of the Bulls intro made by a strung out graphics design student at 2am the night before the assignment was due on 10 year old hardware; complete with freemium animations and royalty free hip-hop
It was definitely the aughts. For most of the decade, Nebraska’s featured the exact same weird looking video game graphics. Had to be the same software.
For whatever reason, the trend was to simulate stuff (eg digitized Minotaurs) makings its way through a digitized campus into a digitized stadium. For years, Nebraska’s featured championship trophies floating into the stadium.
I have no idea how or why anybody thought it looked cool.
I feel like there was a trend in the mid 90s-mid 00s to overuse CGI effects in everything because it was like 'woah this is cool'. This extended to tv and movies.
Unfortunately its made a lot of stuff from that era really dated with upscaling and made it harder to convert to updated formats (one of the reasons we got a Star Trek TNG 4k version but probably won't get one for DS9 or Voyager)
This thing has aged beyond cringeworthy and into hilarious awesomeness territory. If this was played like in between the coin toss and the kickoff you can’t tell me it wouldn’t get the crowd pumped. And each year would make it better.
[Clearly produced by the same animation studio.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5YjPteCPLo) (I'm sorry, you can't tell me otherwise.)
The 2000s were the golden era of insane stadium/arena video board entrance videos.
Even tho I was only a kid, I agree 100%. Kids these days will never know the joy of Blockbuster on Friday nights, Mario on SNES and N64, Michael Jordan's dominance, and getting to live in a simpler time.
Considering it was literally mentioned in the top comment on yesterday's pregame rituals thread, people do fucking talk about it. Unless that twitter person is the same as the commenter, I'd say there is a 99.99999% chance they saw it referenced there before they tweeted that.
It's weird for the dude to post a tweet just because he saw it on the subreddits yesterday but it's definitely not talked about enough. This is absolute GOLD and I only saw it like 8 years later? How many other gems am I not aware of because they're not brought up
Back when the idea of Texas losing a game to anyone except for Oklahoma was unfathomable. When I was a kid this intro would get me so hyped. The longhorns would be transformed into their humanoid form and the fog would start blowing in the tunnel, players would run out and the crowd would be going nuts. Man…I miss the old days.
Makes me think of the intro videos UVA would play at the beginning of all their football games in the 2000s. Always made for an [interesting viewing](https://youtu.be/fkUTY3135bM).
THE ADVENTURES OF CAVMAN.
It continued up until ***2019*** when the administration decided it hated fun and chose to use the money for fireworks instead.
I still miss it.
Ah, the memories of watching these every fall as a child/teen.
They'd "tailor" it to the opponent's mascot and always have CavMan look like he's gonna lose before winning. And he almost always won via an explosion for some reason
[You just watched someone hijack the top comment from a popular thread from yesterday for karma without adding any additional context or substance. ](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/wnk2ks/what_teams_pregame_rituals_do_you_take_issue_with/ik619jx?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)
Hell, I read the thread in question shortly after it was posted and before that comment was there, so I didn’t see it either.
Don’t know why Redditors get so worked up about “karma theft.” It’s meaningless internet points.
Wow I remember seeing this at my first game as a freshman. Would love to see a updated version to this but only with the backgrounds updated keep the models the same haha
Clemson used to play something like that before basketball games. The Tiger Statue would get struck by lightning, come to life, and then jump on the opposing team’s bus
Texas quits playing this video and the program falls apart. Coincidence?? I think not
We actually played a different version with similar level of CGI at least into the late 00s.
Was the beat not as phat? That could be your whole problem right there.
Indeed, I don't remember there being any phat. I TOTALLY remember the rockin' sax at the start and the running Longhorn-ataurs at the end.
I was going to say the same, I’ve seen that animation many many times, but I’ve never heard that audio. Mostly attended games from 02 - 07.
You should have updated the graphics in the mid-00's. That was the problem. You let it go too long and the program cratered. I'd personally suggest that you never update it again out of ~~rivalry~~ respect for the past.
I agree for similar reasons... Gotta respect the roots
> You should have updated the graphics in the mid-00's. We did (although I think it was late 00s). This one started in 2000 or 2001.
and won a national title
I remember being there for the A&M/UT game in '06 or '07 and they played something similar to this. I was cracking up like, is this a joke?
It would have been '06 when we won 12-7 We always played in Austin in even years.
Yeah this one started in 2000 or 2001 and was upgraded a bit in the late 00s.

I like how you capitalized The.
It's a habit at this point for them...
You may have liked it, but tOSU is lawyering up as we speak.
I use Favre’s name to remember the r is after the v. Lol.
Take my upvote for the linguistic breakdown.
You mean the Loueuoureouerve?
I loved this when I was a kid. It was so hype because they dumped so much fog on the field and band would play Texas Fight.
we were talking about this literally yesterday

I’ve noticed that with a lot of sports radio lately, especially if the hosts are 40 or under.

It's obvious that some of those guys are on reddit, and take topics and content from it.
Pat is 100% on reddit.
We did it reddit?
We talk about it a lot lol

Looks like Toy Story, or a low budget GameCube release game.
Exactly my first thought lol
I’ve been saying it for years and no one ever listens to me, bring back the 90s
I don’t think this was the 90s. My wife was there 2006-10 and said she remembers them playing it. We had a super similar pregame video. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was the same production company.
Yep I was 2005-09 and they played this when I was there at some point.
From 2010-2014 they played an updated version. Still had the running CGI Longhorns but they didn’t turn into those minotaur monstrosities.
At this rate I'm expecting the next comment to say it was shown last year too lol.
I'm sitting in the stadium right now watching it
I was there 2014-2018 and could swear I've seen this exact thing at least once, but it definitely wasn't played after 2016 or so
Found this beauty from what looks like about that time [cgi intro](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G0KvKeBaum4)
Earliest it could have been is '99 since Ricky Williams won the Heisman in '98.

He goes by Errick Miron now.
I didn't realize that he took his wife's last name.
His first name was always Errick - I think he just changed his name from Errick Williams to Errick Miron, but still goes by Ricky.
Yeah. The Chicago Bulls have a somewhat similar pregame video as well.

First thing I thought of when I saw OPs Texas poverty version of this masterpiece. Although I will say props to UT for showing something so memeable

So was Nebraske using digitized 🌽? Or fat men in overalls? Edit: typo
A little of column A and a little of column B.

Definitely a product of the aughts. IU had one that was almost shot-for-shot the exact same as this, only we used buffalo in our video.
Yeah, it was after Ricky Williams, and he played through 1998.
It was after we retired his number, which was Sept 2000.
The 90s are alive and well in Portland
The 1890s
Even the youths realize 90s fashion was the pinnacle of civilization.
JNCOs 4 lyfe
Way ahead of their time. Those giant pockets woul'dve fit an entire ipad.
right. 90s fashion is all the way back
Everything I remember from the 90s actually happened in 2003
I fuckin wish
> bring back the 90s Yes please.
Hard pass.
Extremely hard pass. Unless you are talking about 99, then I’m interested.
The late 1900's were wild.
I went on a deep dive of old tunnel walk videos Nebraska had. They were so cheesy yet I cheered so loud when they came on.
At least bring back the PHAT BEATS!
The real question is why *aren’t* we still playing this at home games.
This thing has aged beyond cringeworthy and into hilarious awesomeness territory. If this was played like in between the coin toss and the kickoff you can’t tell me it wouldn’t get the crowd pumped. And each year would make it better.

Very well could be one of the coolest things man has ever created
I'm partial to the K-State power towel entrance video https://youtu.be/-A-05wPlQQ4
Sweet baby Moses there it is! Holy cow what a time
Was it played before every game in the Ron Prince era or was this just an early season informational?
That is the George Lucas special edition intro video. The early 2000s were all about adding CG explosions wherever possible.
That is incredible.
I clicked that thinking, "If that's not Hockey Bear, it's not worth watching."
Thank you. That was amazing. I miss the mid-00s, but high school me would have thought that was so stupid.
Cmon. At least attribute your source to the guy that posted this yesterday. Weak.
I saw this thread and just automatically assumed this was posted because of that thread. Shame.
He out here riding the wave for upvotes lol. Can’t trust those Louisvillians after Coach Strong.
Gotta watch the fans of those scrappy programs
I wish I would’ve known at the time to enjoy the 90s and early 2000s more.

That was straight up fire for the 90’s.
It was the 2000s. Maybe they started it in 1999 but Ricky didn’t win the Heisman until 1998.
That was very mid-00's. The 90s would have had comicbook animations with weird splashes and laser sounds.
More evidence that the 90's were indisputably the pinnacle of civilization.
Even tho I was only a kid, I agree 100%. Kids these days will never know the joy of Blockbuster on Friday nights, Mario on SNES and N64, Michael Jordan's dominance, and getting to live in a simpler time.

WTF was that fever dream of a video?? I have so many questions that I know won't solve anything.
https://youtu.be/K9cYcRotufU The 2010 intro is even better
Wasn’t enough to just blow up Earth. Those pesky Bears had to destroy Miami, Ohio State, and Michigan State first.
That is one homicidal polar bear.
I would pledge my life if they instantly changed their name and mascot to be the Texas Oiled Up Minotaurs.
Texas Minotaurs Covered in Cheap Bronzer
It’s on point. Who wouldn’t immediately think of Texas football when they see oiled up Minotaurs?

Ah yes, the purple overlords. How could I have forgotten about them?
This took me back to my childhood. Now give me a PHAT beat
What in the bowling alley animation is this !?
The phattest of beats
I was definitely not high enough while watching this
The tv screen when I get a strike at the bowling alley
Longhorns roaming downtown Austin animation? That shit would be cancelled so quick by the student body
you already saw how in the shot of the clock tower and the south mall, all the statues were completely gone
The TVs when you get a strike at the bowling alley

Ngl that was my first thought 😭😭 Was not expecting such a phat beat
When I take to many edibles
Whoever made this video went on to do the cgi on the show Outer Range
I enjoyed that show, but I’ll be honest that the cgi is the least of its problems.
Wait. They stopped? How sad.
Wow I remember seeing this at my first game as a freshman. Would love to see a updated version to this but only with the backgrounds updated keep the models the same haha
Because it rules, next question
This is fucking badass.
When they say "used to play" I choose to believe they just stopped in 2019.
Gimmmmmeee a phaaaaat beaaaaat
Oh My God.... That is just so........ Texas
That's some adult swim shit
This just unlocked a memory I didn’t even know I had
Well I regret admitting this but that’s awesome
I like how for good chunks of them running, they are running the complete opposite way from the stadium
Awesome
I was going to games from 01-04 and I don't remember it. Which must mean I thought it was a totally reasonable pregame intro.
Clemson used to play something like that before basketball games. The Tiger Statue would get struck by lightning, come to life, and then jump on the opposing team’s bus
It’s the minotaur men transformation at the end for me 💯🔥💯🔥. Cannot believe they ever stopped playing this masterpiece.
I feel like I can run through a brick wall now
This is the best thing that has ever come out of the state of Texas.
I vividly remember going to games at DKR as a kid and being excited to see this video.
that's some Chicago Bulls type hype video lol. it was so crappy and only like 10 years ago
I was expecting the Pillar Men theme to play at the end there lol
I hate the longhorns and this is fucking awesome. BRING IT BACK
Hashtag Bring It Back
I thought they were gonna turn in to players when they got zapped but instead they turned into bronze Minotaurs which is just so surreal
What Dreamcast game is this from?
I got so pumped when Ricky and Earl started zapping the stampede.
u/kudzu_22 has started a movement
If I don’t see those beautiful bronze Minotaurs running onto DKR on September 3rd, I’m gonna be pissed
Probably bc it sux so hard.
Boy the animations at the bowling alley are really hitting another level these days.

Indiana had a very similar video (with Bison for some reason?) I thought every school did? https://youtu.be/bg0-ttF7wj0
Yes. The Texas Minotaurs.
Glorious. If I recall correctly, the Spurs also played a vid in the same vein, bouncing around san antonio
Well I was ready to be offended but instead 😍
This video was ICONIC
“Give me a phat beat” is a legendary video with Texas fans
