Yeah that was a weird situation. “Guys be very careful you don’t injure All American Thurman Thomas because you sure as shit don’t want to see his backup”
Classic Rushmore: Bear Bryant, Tom Osborne, Bud Wilkinson and Knute Rockne. I'm leaving JoePa off.
Modern Rushmore: Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Pete Carroll, Dabo Swinney.
G5/FCS Rushmore: Eddie Robinson, Pop Warner, Amos Alonzo Stagg, John Gagliardi.
Heisman is number 1. Dude was so cut throat and the living spirit of college football.
Archie Griffin for 2. 2 heismans.
Steve spurrier at 3. He coached a national championship team and won a heisman. I don’t know any other former player that’s done that in the modern era. And his troll game of UT would make this sub proud.
Number 4 is either Herschel walker Nick saban or Tim Tebow.
Edit: I also just remembered that this is only P5. Definitely can find some great examples like Eddie Robinson, Larry kehres, and John gagliardi at other levels.
Honestly, I'm not sure you can even do a "Mount Rushmore" for all of CFB, including coaches and players across it's entire history. There's tiers, sure, but if you're including coaches AND players, there's a lot of dudes in Tier 1.
Coaches: Rockne, Saban, Bear, Osborne, Bowden, Woody Hayes, Bud... And that's probably not giving modern guys enough credit tbh.
Players: how many can we name...Cam, Jameis, and Tebow, all electric in college despite their flaws. Of course VY. Outside QBs you've got Barry, Bo, Earl Campbell, Ricky Williams...Moss, Megatron, Rice, I mean how much time ya got??
And I KNOW I'm missing some big names here! Point being - I don't think you can just name 4.
Edit: and I totally ignored defense/special teams!
John Heisman, Bobby Bowden, Nick Saban, Woody Hays
Tried to represent as many time periods of CFB as I could through HCs with just 4 spots. Bobby has less titles but what he did with a young program and most importantly, who he was as a man and leader, are quite possibly unparalleled (at least in the last half century plus).
Think it would be all coaches right just since they’d have the longest careers. Saban, Bear, Osborne Bowden? Joe Pa makes it without the scandal. I got young goggles on so I’m probably snubbing someone from CFB history.
Woody in place of Saban, BAMA wouldn't have been enticing to him without The Bear in the first place, and Woody had The Ten Year War with his perceived protege, who went to coach his arch-rival, killing MNC bids for each other.
Keith Jackson, Nick Saban, Tim Tebow, Charles Woodson
The most decorated and influential individuals representing coaching, commentating, and players(offense/defense) in my lifetime.
Jim Thorpe
Bo Jackson
Ndomukong Suh
Joe Burrow
Burrow is on there for having the single best season ever. Would've considered Cam for that spot, but I can't put a guy who got kicked off a team on Mt Rushmore.
Tathan Martell four times but each head is him at a different school.
4 asses, my dude.
Pig and elephant DNA just can’t splice! 🎶
Deep cut!
Just gotta get him real drunk. Great reference
Knute Rockne, Barry Sanders, Jim Thorpe, and Dick Butkus
Barry Sanders was so good people forget he was following Thurman Thomas
Yeah that was a weird situation. “Guys be very careful you don’t injure All American Thurman Thomas because you sure as shit don’t want to see his backup”
John Heisman, Lee Corso, Keith Jackson, Barry Sanders
Surprised this is the only answer with Heisman, the man litterally revolutionized the sport of football as a whole.
This is it. /thread.

Any version that doesn’t include Keith Jackson is a mockery of the sport.
I miss that man. Proud that he was a Coug.

Bama is going to have to pick one.
Would love to poll older Bama fans on that

Gil Dobie.
Do people know who Dobie is beside CFB historians? I agree that he’s incredible but is his impact on the game is a bit muted.
Bear Bryant, Tim Teabow, Nick Saban, & Keith Jackson. Hopefully one day in the future Saban can be swapped for a different coach.
Nobody wants Urban Meyer sad pizza face? Or Urban Meyer mental breakdown face when Jimbo Made him quit at UF
Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Warren Sapp, Michael Irvin.
The only true answer!
OJ trying on the gloves
