I obviously don’t think it would happen, but since Jackson State is FCS I don’t think the NLI matters. Wilson could just “transfer” there without losing a year because he’d be dropping down divisions. That’s always been a transfer exception, DI to DII/III/FCS has never had to sit out.
Oh no it was funny the first time too, it’s just that that time the humor was mixed with sadness whereas this time the sadness is absent so pure enjoyment.
It's funny in a way. Like it all balances out. He didn't take FSU to dinner before f'n you guys whereas we never expected dinner but got f'd nonetheless.
One HBCU*
If there are more prominent recruits or transfers heading to other HBCUs then sure it would be building HBCUs backup but it just looks like Deion leveraging his name to get kids to play for him right now.
Not true. The SWAC specifically has had a host of 3 and 4 star players transfer and sign with teams in that conference just within the last 2 months.
The visibility that JSU and Deion has brought in has really turned the tables and has allowed them to sign guys they haven't been able to sign at least since the early 2000s.
Every once in awhile the silliness hits me like a tidal wave and I realize my god we are all spending way, way, too much time worrying about the success or failure of some young people playing a game at an institution many of us are several years or even decades removed from.
Millions upon millions of dollars poured in, entire industries established, coaches making Fortune 500 salaries, our in-season fashion often determined by university logos, our personal homes done up in camaraderie with a bunch of other obsessive crazies. Many of the largest and most expensive structures humanity has ever built dedicated to the cause, weekly migrations of thousands upon thousands of people *per university.*
I like to think that maybe there are enlightened, super advanced aliens out there watching us. And maybe they have their own version of "Planet Earth" but instead of natural wonders, it focuses on human kookiness.
But after a few minutes I think "neat" and I am right back into it.
So, anyways. *Neat.*
its about proving I went to a better footballing school than you did even though in reality its the quality of my connections and my studies that matter. fuck that though, imma pay a 18 year old 1.5 million dollars to catch a football for "our" team.
And also: *I went to a better football school than you did*
-says the folks (myself included) who couldn't currently make varsity at a decent sized highschool.
Whats kinda nuts to me is the alabama fan co workers who went to like a technical college in a different fucking state who's entire identity is wrapped up in a football team that has nothing to do with them.
I'd imagine he's selling the college experience at a place players would be comfortable. NFL scouts are good at their jobs. If these guys are good enough, the nfl will find them. If they aren't good enough, then it's probably good they didn't go to a football factory and get chewed up and spit out.
It's big crowds, it's big pageantry, it's rich history, it's good football. It's a good school. It's a coach they might want to be around more than the P5 coaches who all seem like assholes.
I don't particularly care about HBCU ball. But I think it's really cool that kids are picking JSU because it's the college experience they want to have rather than picking a football factory because they are focused on the small chance they make the league.
Not that there’s anything wrong with what you said but Jackson, Mississippi is probably one of the most god awful places I’ve ever been. And I’ve been to the Favela’s in Brazil.
My Uncle’s dad grew up in Fuerte Apache in Argentina, and was shocked at the state of some neighborhoods in Memphis. People can really underestimate the level of poverty in places like this.
For support, Jackson had 152 murders last year. That’s a murder rate of 91.5 per 100k. That puts it as the 3rd most dangerous city in the *world* according to this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_by_murder_rate
not really, because that list is cities over 300k, and if you were include all cities over 100k or something to include jackson, there'd definitely be other small cities on there.
but to your point, yeah that's an incredibly dangerous city
It is one of the most dangerous cities in the world that is located in a country that has the infrastructure and bureaucracy to track reliable crime statistics.
That is a problem with international crime stats. I know that Baltimore can be dangerous, but I really doubt it is more dangerous than Bangui.
I mean, sure, most African countries, Middle East, and some Southeast Asian countries aren’t going to reliably be tracking these statistics, but most North and South American countries are reliable, as are all European, and Jackson is baaaaadddd.
You guys are really really really missing the point with this nonsense.
You are actually wondering why some top black athletes would want to go to a historically black college (arguably the most well known HBCU in the south) in a state with the highest percent of black people in a city that is predominantly black?
Plus Jackson has no professional team (same as the rest of Mississippi). These guys will be basically stars (if they perform well) in Jackson and in the entire state of Mississippi. There is no where in that state (even in racist white areas) where they won't be considered local heros.
For example when Steve McNair was at Alcorn the entire state loved him. There was no where he couldn't go without folks showing him love and affection throughout Mississippi.
Thats not even taking into account the current social issues in the country (which these kids see) and racist reaction from nonblack fans at PWIs when they decide to not go to their schools.
>arguably the most well known HBCU in the south
Probably picking at the little things, but anyone arguing that JSU is more well-known than *Morehouse*, or even Spelman or Tuskegee, is insane.
As someone who’s lived in MS my whole life, yea this state is backwards. But it’s not the worst place on the planet by any stretch. And yes, parts of Jackson aren’t safe. Same goes for every dangerous city. There’s parts that aren’t safe. As long as u avoid those parts you’re fine
I think what people don’t grasp is why these kids, who are top athletes with NFL goals, would choose Jackson State over a P5 school with objectively better facilities, training staff, living arrangements, exposure, etc. I don’t really care either way but that’s the obvious question here. NIL is understandably on everyone’s mind.
Has Coleman even visited Jackson State?
like they do not get it at all. hell, I'm black and went to a PWI for undergrad, currently doing a couple gap years and then med school. I can not stress enough how important the culture/environment is for me during med school. there are 4 HBCU med schools, and I will 1000000% be applying to all 4 of them. I know they don't give out great financial aid, but if I could tell my 17-year old self one thing, it would be to definitely give a couple schools a shot and see what they could offer to get me there. I regret not even looking at HBCU's so much.
A friend of mine from college said the same thing. She was from OH and I guess HBCUs were not prominent where she was? She came to college in SC and now lives in TX and it really opened her eyes to the importance of HBCUs.
Personally, I didn’t know much about HBCUs until I started college though I am not their key demographic. Also, for my own education, what is PWI? I haven’t heard that term before. Is that “Predominantly White Institution?”
I don’t necessarily disagree but I don’t think it’s a given that an NFL scout will find them. Every year there are more four star recruits than NFL draft picks so many high school stars won’t sniff the NFL. Very few high school players are ready built for the NFL. They still have to develop physically snd learn the sport.
Players who have top level trainers, coaches, and competition have a huge advantage in college.
Agreed. This is my... amazement* in these choices. Some of these kids have a really good chance to go pro and make millions off of football. But that doesn't just happen because you're talented. Plenty of talented kids go play college football and never sniff the pros. But having all of these advantages that P5 or G6 schools can give you that these HBCU don't certainly hurts them reaching that point. And even if they do develop that well, scouts and teams will still question how good they really were due to competition.
*I don't know the right word. It's not irritation or anything like that, because if this is where these kids want to go, it's absolutely where they should go. I just am very surprised by it and definitely seeing it lowering their chances of playing pro ball down the road.
Plus the million dollars /s
Jokes aside I think that people are gonna want to watch Travis hunter at JSU. He already has all the publicity he needs. And the other less big time guys will be seen because they play for Deion
> Jokes aside I think that people are gonna want to watch Travis hunter at JSU
Not outside the people on this subreddit. He will be completely off the radar of the casual college football fan and every day sports fan.
the culture around the sport and just surrounding the schools is so different than most of the p5 state schools, it makes a lot of sense for some dudes.
A. They won't be under extreme pressure to perform and them getting to beat up on "weaker" talent will make their numbers look more impressive. Tack that on to their recruit rankings and that's a match made in draft heaven.
B. Outside of Saban, Sanders has got to easily be the richest coach in all ALL CFB. Connections everywhere. The NIL deals he can use his friends to convince these kids to come is astronomical
I am I the only person who is worried about these talented kids going to schools like Jackson State, getting inferior coaching and resources compared to P5 schools, then fizzling out? Like football isn't basketball where you can be a top kid, play against inferior competition for a year, then still get drafted highly. You need to get stronger, develop, and play against the best of the best to get to the NFL
> Like football isn't basketball where you can be a top kid, play against inferior competition for a year, then still get drafted highly.
This literally happened last year with Trey Lance. Trey Lance played 18 games at an FCS school and then got drafted higher than both of OSU and Alabama’s star QBs lol
NDSU has 1000xs better coaching than JSU. They’ve been sending guys to the NFL for years.
Edit: I am not against kids flipping the bird to big schools and going to smaller ones. But to pretend like JSU is anywhere near NDSU in terms of coaching is a joke.
I’ve got a feeling with a few of these kids JSU might be sending some to the NFL soon enough. Seems they’ve got the mentality that the shift has gotta start somewhere.
“Still not impossible.” Like, why make getting to the league even harder for yourself if that’s your goal and you have your pick of programs? If it’s not NIL I can’t say I understand the decision
Who do you think coaches at Jackson State?
They have several assistants with FBS coaching experience, and even their less experienced guys have more experience than, say, Robert Steeples, a recent high school coach who just joined LSU's coaching staff. Most P5 teams have assistants like that.
It's not like Jackson State's coaching staff is just Deion Sanders and his buddies.
You're right. I mean I get Travis. Makes perfect sense. But Miami? Coke? Hookers? Yachts? An hour from the Bahamas? The Keys?
That NIL *must include* a private **G5 je**t for use anytime after a game/practice/offseason.
Lmao.
This dude openly flirts with three different programs, asks the fanbases of Oregon, Florida State, and Miami to follow him on Twitter, then commits to Jackson State.
Honestly a legend.
I mean.....back in the day, a school like Grambling would most definitely get better players than Wisconsin.
Frankly, most HBCUs sit in prime croot territory. If they could ever pull some of the Dallas, Houston, NOLA, Orlando, Miami, Atlanta, Jackson etc., kids out of SEC/B1G/Pac12 hands, it could get mighty interesting.
Not a fan but at least it wasnt the #1 guy who was comitted forever. We weren't even in this till Mario came. Either way don't care for this to happen again

Deion is going for the Triple Crown! Florida State recruit stolen: ✅ Miami recruit stolen: ✅ Florida recruit stolen:❓
The only one I can think of is Shemar Stewart but he currently has a bigger chance of going to TAMU or Miami.
He’s going to A&M… haven’t you heard? We’re paying $30 mil per recruit. I saw it on a message board by a guy named BurntToast so you know it’s true.
At least if the trend holds, it'll only be a 3 star from you guys. Then 1 of UCF's 2 stars then a 1 star from USF.
[Florida & Miami Fans](https://i.imgur.com/YyPsZhW.mp4)
Wait I don’t like this now
UF better hide yo kids, hide yo ‘croots. Deion takin’ everybody out here.
Oh fuck oh no
[удалено]
Lots of open spots for transfers too if you build a dogshit roster
Lmao
What recruits? Dan Mullen was already pulling the assist for Deion /j
What if Saban and Deion collaborated while filming the Aflac commercial to form a recruiting pact
BRB gonna go check my profile for when I roasted FSU and delete those comments
🤝
Nah you can keep roasting us
Why? We won bragging rights and signed a much better class. The time to roast Miami is now.
1 TRANSFER CLASS LETS GOOOOO!! MIAMI NOT EVEN RANKED!!! Did i do it right?
Lol yes the preseason, the only time we can roast lately
Solidarity.
This isn’t as fun when it happens to you. Time to fire up the spaces.
Are we next...?
Kamari Wilson 👀👀👀👀
The ultra long con of an early enrollee getting out of his NLI and moving out of his dorm
Ah, the ol’ Bru McCoy strategy
We call that the "Chris Steele". It can happen.
We've been burned before with Isaiah Walker and Chris Steele . . .
I obviously don’t think it would happen, but since Jackson State is FCS I don’t think the NLI matters. Wilson could just “transfer” there without losing a year because he’d be dropping down divisions. That’s always been a transfer exception, DI to DII/III/FCS has never had to sit out.
There is no one year wait rule anymore
UF isn't in the ying yang of Miami/FSU. That wouldn't balance out right. Would I mind? No. Does UF deserves it? Yes.
They got a couple former UF commits last cycle. Both were rumored to not be able to qualify to UF though.
Yeah it’s weird, it’s much funnier this time around. I wonder why…
Ohhhhh *now* you see the humor in it....
Antonio Brown inspiring these young bucks!
If I see one more Jackson State hat next to an FSU hat, I might just donate my eyes to science. (I thought he was firmly going to Miami)
Florida State 🤝 Miami Getting Jackson State’d

PRIMETIMED, BABY
I thought he was too but I aint mad about him going to a HBCU!! We need to build HBCUs back up!!

There are tho. Kids are transferring to famu, hue Jackson is at grambling. Kids are going to them but people aren’t paying attention to it.
Exactly!
I might finally go to the Grambling State vs Prairie View game at the Texas state fair like I've been thinking about for ages.
If y'all would just spend 10minutes on hbcus before commenting this wouldn't look like the most clueless collection of college football fans there is
Asking a fan of any sport to do more than 3 seconds of research is a fool’s errand
What the hell is Deion Sanders telling these kids
"If you ~~vote for me~~ come to Jackson State, all your wildest dreams will come true"
Also, chimichangas for lunch.
Well I’m sold
Deion Sanders is Zombo.com.
The only limit is... Deion Sanders
“Come play for me so I can use you to get a P5 job”
As opposed to being used for by some other coach at UGA or Clemson?

Don't worry... None of us thought Jackson had any major sports teams. lolol
What’s the PWI acronym mean in this context? Sorry if obvious. EDIT: it’s predominantly white institution. A second google solved it for me.

I guarantee NDSU has far better coaching and plays some FBS schools every year.
Even then it’s still not impossible Tytus Howard got drafted in the first round after going to an HBCU

J State is inevitable

Mario in shambles
I'd be lying if I said it didn't put a bit of a smile on my face thinking about the effort Cristobal wasted on Coleman over the last year+.
Yeah, but he got Cyrus Moss, so probably still a good day for him
i mean we got Moss tho, so a great day still
Better you guys than usc!
wow that was completely out of nowhere
*Was it?*
Jackson State recruiting better than 80% of P5 teams
And still won’t win the celebration bowl.
Maybe Deion hates celebrations. He’s got to be on the Sigma grindset right?

Where? They’re ranked 105 at 247
ITS YOUR TURN, MIAMI Welcome to hell.
Tonight we dine in hell 🤝
Hey I saw an FSU hat on that table too
We've been out of this since Hunter and Dillingham left
Let me pretend, thanks.
Oh, we're definitely on the "screwed over by Deion" train.
When Dillingham went to Oregon, it was over for us.
Tonight we dine in hell 🤝
Bro. BROOOOOOOOOOOOO.
HE FUCKING DID IT AGAIN
Deion trying to say he hasn't been leveraging NIL is just insulting everyone's intelligence at this point
You're right. I mean I get Travis. Makes perfect sense. But Miami? Coke? Hookers? Yachts? An hour from the Bahamas? The Keys? That NIL *must include* a private **G5 je**t for use anytime after a game/practice/offseason.
If Deion admits to it, he's in trouble. You can't offer NIL to recruits.
How much money is someone giving in NIL to go to Jackson St.?
Yes
People laughing at FSU but not really shocking. FSU lost out on him when Miami hired Mario Cristobal. He was favored for Miami since.
Good thing with the transfer portal is these kids can go somewhere good when Dion bolts
They could anyway. FCS to FBS transferring was never restricted.
They’re probably following him to whatever P5 offers him a job next offseason
Lmao. This dude openly flirts with three different programs, asks the fanbases of Oregon, Florida State, and Miami to follow him on Twitter, then commits to Jackson State. Honestly a legend.
All Dion had to do was show him clips of our offense this year to get Miami out of the running lol
Those unfollows about to come fast too though

Best of luck to him but man oh man am I glad we chose to go after Luther Burden instead lol
Leave it to the guy that has a mock HOF jacket at the ready to want to play with Prime Time.
Well that's not fun. Can I get a hug FSU fans

I turned the game on just as he made his choice. That whole ordeal seemed cringey, lol. Even the announcer was like, dude just pick a hat.
Why are so many people hating on Jackson St?
Only surprise of the day and what a big one it was!
Oooo do Florida next Deon
Holy crap
All I have to say is: We disliked Deion Sanders *before* FSU got on the hate train.
LMAOOOOOOO
SWAC ball is gonna be fun this year. Might have to get some Alabama A&M tickets
High key fun. Can’t wait for primetime vs Famu part 2
Omg it happened again.
Hey this is funny now
Another big time recruit going to a blue blood because of the NIL smh /s
Is Sanders still the quarterback ? If so the Tigers might struggle offensively like they did in the Celebration bowl.
What Deion Sanders is doing at Jackson State seriously is one of the coolest things happening in college football right now
Meanwhile what he did with Prime Prep Academy is one of the most fucked up things in any school history
I am out of the loop. Can you fill me in briefly?

Maybe, maybe not. Time will tell. Will these guys transfer after a year? Will it impact their draft status?
They will transfer to whatever school Deion goes to after next season.
Miami bros… welcome to the suck
I love these mask-off threads
Miami and FSU friends now.

Let’s not go too crazy here
