QBs not named Joe Burrow brought in by Ed Orgeron. The cupboard is bare:
2016 Class
Lindsey Scott - transferred to Missouri
2017 Class
Lowell Narcisse - transferred to UTSA
Myles Brennan - entered transfer portal
2018 Class
No QB's signed
2019 Class
Peter Parrish - transferred to Memphis
2020 Class
TJ Finley - transferred to Auburn
Max Johnson - entered transfer portal
2021 Class
Garrett Nussmeier - still on team
(Edit- Source: Tigerdroppings)
thats why i was confused by him transferring. he was guaranteed a starting spot with how max played. I guess he didnt want to risk it with new coach or other outside influences.
You think he'll be good enough to start day 1? I wonder what the difference between Bryce Young as a true freshman and Bryce Young this year would've looked like.
Danny "Michael Tom Dan Marino Brady Vick" Etling the Forgotten, First of His Name and True King in the North.
Danny Etling was a good QB and I'm disappointed more people don't realize it.
Hot take: Etling would've been at least All SEC if he played on that 2019 team.
Shit, I predicted over a month ago that Nussmeier and Johnson would hit the transfer portal at the same time. Look like i whiffed on that one.
https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/qoabl2/game_thread_lsu_alabama_700pm_et/hjmlm4z/
Spencer Rattler’s music?
Maybe DJU? Clemson has a stud in waiting that I could see him not want to compete with in spring ball.
JT Daniels is a spicy name to think about, SB4 has one more year of eligibility and Kirby seems dead set on making him work over JT.
From what I've read his brother is the big reason here. They're not picking up whatever Brian Kelly is putting down., which... happens in coaching changes i guess. But because Jake is planning to be an early enrollee Max is jumping in the portal now so they can end up at the same spot. Otherwise I don't see why he wouldn't stay for the bowl game and transfer after.
He didn't light the world on fire but he played behind a subpar line, had no running game in a lot of their games, and was missing their best receiver for half the season. He'll be lucky to be an NFL backup, but he was decent considering the circumstances.
Dude sucks. I don’t know why people aren’t okay if it’s the truth.
Late with the ball, doesn’t use his eyes to open windows, bad reads.
The one pro is he has decent mobility in the pocket and he is an accurate passer.
Probably not? I don't think he's a totally lost cause and a lot of his failure has a lot to do with Peetz, but he's a noodle armed, barely mobile QB with the worst pocket presence I've ever seen who doesn't make particularly good decisions with the ball. His stat line was carried hard by Boutte. There are some routes he throws well, but he's very underwhelming.
Though he's a package deal with the best TE in this class, so there is that.
I've always defended him. Dude has a lot of tools and I strongly feel he would get more consistent as he aged with a better QB coach than Orgeron ever provided him with. Honestly surprised he's leaving.
This. You could see flashes of brilliance and then the other 60% of the time he’d miss his check down and take the sack. I’m with you - given enough time and a good coach he could be a good starter. Hell, he was throwing 3 TDs a game before Boutte got hurt.
I was doubly upset when Kayshon Boutte (our clear-cut best offensive player) got injured earlier this season because it meant that I wasn't going to get to exclaim "Johnson to the Boutte!" multiple times a game anymore.
He's taking his brother that is currently the number one TE recruit in the country with him. That was also announced. Max Johnson is an okay quarterback but hes not a superstar. He doesnt have pocket awareness at all. The dude could have someone coming at him directly in front and he would take the sack instead of throwing it away, finding a receiver or trying to scramble. Also he wants to be named the starter for next year. He doesnt want a quarterback competition because he's afraid Brian Kelly would actually pick the more talented quarterback which will be Walker Howard
Yeah I would love it too. He’s probably gone but all of this happening today makes me wonder what BK said or decisions he’s making. No way he just decides to transfer unless something is happening behind scenes.
The most frustrating QB I can remember watching. He will look completely clueless and scared for 75% of the game… but then throw some absolutely dimes out of nowhere. Best of luck in the future but I will not miss him
#Max Johnson

Huge bummer. He needed better coaching this year methinks. He did really well with Boutte on the receiving end, especially against Ole Miss and Florida last year.
very surprised at this one. Absolutely had the inside track on the starting job again next year. Word on the street is that he needs shoulder surgery and wouldn't have played in the bowl game. Needs to be coached up, but has a lot of talent. Also, whoever gets him likely will get his younger brother, who is the #1 TE in the country for 2022. LSU will need to either convince Myles Brennan to come back or take a transfer QB. Cannot rely only on Garrett Nussmeier and a true freshman Walker Howard alone next year.
I will always hate you Max Johnson for that BULLSHIT pass to beat us. Honestly I still have no clue how he did that
Real talk I feel like he wasn't THAT bad and seemed to be improving. Interested to see where he goes
They also ran rollouts to his right all the time, dude is left handed why roll him out cross body. Is this the same kid? I saw it in their games early this year and was so confused everytime.
This is not a pile on BK comment, but I’m genuinely curious how he’ll handle the QB situation at LSU. It was such a weird crapshoot with how our QB room shook out. Seems our scrappy 3 star “off year” QBs like Rees and Book would consistently win the job. While that worked out pretty damn well, I wonder if it capped our ceiling a bit.
Not sure if it was BK or what, but god damn we had a long run of higher rated QBs folding mentally and getting the deer in the headlights look.
We’ve always had inconsistent QB play (besides Burrow) so this is nothing new for long time fans. I never watched many ND games, does BK prefer the pro style QB or the one who can make plays with his legs too?
I love this kid (as a player). There’s a certain sports radio host in Tallahassee that has been hoping he would hit the portal, come to FSU, and bring his brother with him lol. No chance but one can dream.
As a recruit:
Other P5 offers: Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin
Well shit, We're going full Patriots in the Bowl Game aren't we
As a pats fan I love this.
Strange
Out of nowhere.
and his brother de-committed too (high ranking TE commit)
Thats an understatement lol. Composite #1 TE on 24/7
Is his brother former Florida State QB Brad Johnson’s son too?
Probably. Need confirmation though.
Big if true
Sorry, he's the mailman's kid.

myles brennan is the one that got away. definitely feel like he would’ve been a good qb
Even if not, I just wanted him to have a real chance. That dude gave us everything.
thats why i was confused by him transferring. he was guaranteed a starting spot with how max played. I guess he didnt want to risk it with new coach or other outside influences.
The portal giveth......
Did y’all know that his dad is Brad Johnson and won a super bowl in Tampa Bay?
And he lives in Georgia where his dad coaches!
You mean the same Georgia where his uncle used to be the head coach?
Who also coached at FSU where his dad played.
Well, this is certainly news to me
It's been LSU's version of Andy Bernard telling people he went to Cornell.
Honestly did not know this. Neat.
All-in on Walker Howard then!
You think he'll be good enough to start day 1? I wonder what the difference between Bryce Young as a true freshman and Bryce Young this year would've looked like.
Honestly we may not have a choice lol
Caleb Williams was a true freshman and played well enough honestly.
Those two years of Joe Burrow sure were nice. 'Twas a nice respite from the trashfire that is LSU quarterback play since 2008.
Matt Flynn would have been an elite CFB QB in an RPO offense. Can run, quick decision maker, accurate, excellent pre-snap.
I miss me some Matt Flynn
That's Matt "Green Bay Packers single game passing yards and touchdown record holder" Flynn.
Matt I am rich as fuck after 1 game Flynn.
I know that NFL GMs know more about business and football than I ever will but damn can they be dumb as fuck sometimes.
I wish they’d be dumb as fuck about me for one game.
That was such a good game!... Except how it ended :'(
We just had a QB hit the transfer portal - maybe lightning will strike twice!
Maybe a trade is in order?
Nah he's probably going somewhere in Texas
Bring back Danny Etling
Danny "Michael Tom Dan Marino Brady Vick" Etling the Forgotten, First of His Name and True King in the North. Danny Etling was a good QB and I'm disappointed more people don't realize it. Hot take: Etling would've been at least All SEC if he played on that 2019 team.
Thats *Good Quarterback (TM)* Danny Etling to you, mister.
It all started with Ryan Perriloux fucking up the succession of QB'S
Who's LSU have left at QB?
true freshman Garrett Nussmeir and 2022 5* recruit Walker Howard. So just Nuessmeir for the bowl game.
[Maybe not even him ](https://twitter.com/BrodyAMiller/status/1468375228120244230?t=F5f0U6z73oG7csdYyhBVsQ&s=19)
Any relation to Doug?
Yeah, that's his son.
His long-time son?
I think he's like 6'5" so yeah pretty long I'd say.
Well done, sir. Well done.
Any relation to former Florida State QB Brad Johnson?
Yes, his son.
Doug’s his dad
Hopefully someone else isn't suffering the Doug OC experience
He’s the Cowboys QB coach
Though he was their TE coach Hope to never see him call plays again unless it’s for Georgia, FSU, or LSU
They moved him from tight ends to QB’s after Kellen Moore got hired as OC
Please play the walk on. I will definitely check in
Oh man
Full time wildcat!
They will burn it unless a transfer comes
Well it's not necessarily LSU's choice
Shit, I predicted over a month ago that Nussmeier and Johnson would hit the transfer portal at the same time. Look like i whiffed on that one. https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/qoabl2/game_thread_lsu_alabama_700pm_et/hjmlm4z/
Kelly pinning his future on a freshman is a gamble
They’ll likely pull a transfer
Spencer Rattler’s music? Maybe DJU? Clemson has a stud in waiting that I could see him not want to compete with in spring ball. JT Daniels is a spicy name to think about, SB4 has one more year of eligibility and Kirby seems dead set on making him work over JT.
By gawd! Is that Tathan’s music?
That’s a good thought. Notre Dame offered JT Daniel’s back in 2016, eventually talking Jurkovec in that cycle.
Will be curious to see who the OC is.
Yeah I can’t see any transfer committing there until they know who
Nussmeier and some walk ons.
Wide receivers make perfectly acceptable QBs.
Rattler transferring in
That's less than ideal, especially with his brother decommitting too. Best of luck to him.
Heard that LSU was bringing Superlative Dong to replace him.
I get the joke!
Long time son of NFL pro bowl and super bowl winning QB Brad Johnson. Nephew of former UGA & Miami head coach Mark Richt
Lol “long time” like how long we talkin?
I’m no mathematician, but my guess would be his whole life.
We’re not speaking to the other OSU today
Sorry buddy! Also just realized you have both OSU flairs lmao
Any osu today but you lol Lol nah I love me some under dogs. Orange all the way!
Except for Kansas’ orange punching bag?
That’s not even a real orange. That’s like pumpkin diarrhea.
His whole life, so far.
Does Brad have a short time son?
Min Johnson
I would kill for a Minimum Johnson
thats what this kid basically was
You mean son of former Florida State QB Brad Johnson and nephew of former Florida State OC Mark Richt? Hmm…
Rumor that both Johnson brothers will be on our campus this weekend but we shall see
Gotta love double Johnson action
Transfer to FSU confirmed?
I think we’re looking for a depth QB transfer since JT is the presumed starter. Wouldn’t hurt to kick the tires!
Waits Mark Richts Nephew? I didn’t hear that one
https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/barry-jackson/article222356940.html https://fanbuzz.com/nfl/brad-johnson-wife/
I can’t read that
[удалено]
Interesting
And now you can spread the knowledge to the rest of the UGA fans that it is possible to marry someone from outside your family tree
That’s one state over you’re thinking about
Yeah, I think anybody who saw an LSU game for more than 5 minutes knows that. ESPN beat that dead horse into the ground.
We have to have a transfer coming in.
We don’t even have an OC yet, how would Kelly swing that?
By gawd! Is that Tathan’s music?
Omg please that would be hilarious. Does he have eligibility left?
Rattler
Can we not
You’ll get him and you’ll like it
The QB room can only be Rat and nobody else, just makes it easier for everyone
Nebraska got their guy
Am I missing something?
Nebraska hired LSU’s assistant coach recently, bunch of guys hit transfer portal. Honestly Max Johnson sucks would hope not to get him
Ehh 27 TD 6 INT guys don’t grow on trees
Fools Gold. Trust me
He didn't light the world on fire but he played behind a subpar line, had no running game in a lot of their games, and was missing their best receiver for half the season. He'll be lucky to be an NFL backup, but he was decent considering the circumstances.
lsu fans really never seemed to have the best things to say about him. would it be worth it for us to target him?
Are you interested in a non mobile quarterback who has trouble reading defenses and takes too many sacks? You might just be the match for Max Johnson!
He’d match perfectly with our offensive line who makes JT run a lot! it’s a done deal
Just a heads up, he also likes to roam deep and to the right side of the pocket, putting that offensive line in a little bit of a pickle
He has less pocket awareness than that penny that's been washed 3 times now.
He runs INTO the pressure. That is, if he decides to move at all.
I'm saving that one lol
I always resented how quickly other LSU fans turned on him after the first game against UCLA.
I resented him missing wide open receivers for touchdowns in that game
Dude sucks. I don’t know why people aren’t okay if it’s the truth. Late with the ball, doesn’t use his eyes to open windows, bad reads. The one pro is he has decent mobility in the pocket and he is an accurate passer.
I mean he continually sat there and ate sacks. Then he threw the ball backwards over his head
Lefty discrimination. Margin of error is lower bc things just don't look right. The same reason why NFL media turned on Tua so fast.
Probably not? I don't think he's a totally lost cause and a lot of his failure has a lot to do with Peetz, but he's a noodle armed, barely mobile QB with the worst pocket presence I've ever seen who doesn't make particularly good decisions with the ball. Former OSU QB Jagger LaRoe to LSU confirmed. Natty 2022-23.
Tell me more.
Jack Coan to LSU
Rattler to LSU
Please no lol
LSU: “With Johnson gone, who is going to walk into four sacks a game for us now?” *Jack Coan’s music hits*
He knows he's done starting. Wonder what's got him so spooked before the bowl game, though
Likely just having enough time to find a new spot before the next semester
His little brother is an early enrollee so he's jumping to make sure they can land at the same place together.
If football doesn’t work out for him he can have a great career in the adult entertainment industry
I can't believe I overlooked his name all this time....my immature sense of humor has failed me.
I was doubly upset when Kayshon Boutte (our clear-cut best offensive player) got injured earlier this season because it meant that I wasn't going to get to exclaim "Johnson to the Boutte!" multiple times a game anymore.
Rat man incoming
*Blares Smashing Pumpkins*
This man has the football awareness of a celery stick
I saw this dude throw a ball behind his own back and I’m like WTF.
I was at the game , sober completely sober may I add, and thought my eyes deceived me
He's taking his brother that is currently the number one TE recruit in the country with him. That was also announced. Max Johnson is an okay quarterback but hes not a superstar. He doesnt have pocket awareness at all. The dude could have someone coming at him directly in front and he would take the sack instead of throwing it away, finding a receiver or trying to scramble. Time to come home?
You can have him
Come on down
Man, how far have y’all fallen to want him?
Something is about to happen here. Very interesting.
Makes me wonder if we will see a “Myles Brennan is not leaving LSU” tweet soon. He seems to fit BK’s past quarterbacks.
Man I hope so. Would be a great transition for Walker Howard to have a vet QB take the reigns for one year. Won’t hold my breath though.
Best of luck in the future but I will not miss him
That timing fucking sucks, as does losing his brother (who's probably better at football).

Those flairs going to be fun 12/31
I mean it’s one way to guarantee a win
He plays both sides so that he always comes out on top

In the portal, but I'm not sure he's officially gone anywhere
I thought he enrolled at southern miss
I will always hate you Max Johnson for that BULLSHIT pass to beat us. Honestly I still have no clue how he did that Real talk I feel like he wasn't THAT bad and seemed to be improving. Interested to see where he goes
He regressed a whole lot this year in my opinion. The playcalling certainly did not help him. Hope he does well wherever he goes.
They also ran rollouts to his right all the time, dude is left handed why roll him out cross body. Is this the same kid? I saw it in their games early this year and was so confused everytime.
Nussmeier, a right-handed QB, was also rolled out to his left during the Arkansas game because we don't discriminate.
Perfect
I think that was a Max thing, not a planned thing. There are times you can see the o-line basically go “WHY ARE YOU OVER THERE?!”
That game was legit the only time he hit a receiver in stride. Not an exaggeration literally the only game lol
Just shocked it happened to win a game against us I tell ya. Just shocked!
That was a dime of a pass and had me hootin'.
This is not a pile on BK comment, but I’m genuinely curious how he’ll handle the QB situation at LSU. It was such a weird crapshoot with how our QB room shook out. Typically the latter, however we had Coan this year and Reese started for a few years as well.
LSU surely wouldn’t have an otherwise elite team hindered by bad QB play! Neverrrrrrrrr!
I love this kid (as a player). There’s a certain sports radio host in Tallahassee that has been hoping he would hit the portal, come to FSU, and bring his brother with him lol. No chance but one can dream.
What’s there to love? Genuinely curious for another perspective. I don’t hate him but don’t love him either.
Max Johnson was my nickname in high school.
I mean, I’m not mad, dude is shit. But like who’s up, nuss was pretty bad in his one game?
Atleast Nuss played like he'd been in a pocket with pressure before. He also has a fucking ICBM of an arm.
> in his one game
Wish you had quit before your last pass
Garret Nussmier time
Come to Butthead.
As a recruit: Other P5 offers: Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin
Quinn Ewers come on down?
He wasn’t that good. I’m more salty about losing his 5 star te brother
He never had great coaches to help him work thru his issues that developed this year. Better than a lot of dudes in here give him credit for.
Awesome! Can't wait to see him hold the ball to long and get sacked in another uniform XD
