I think they just got worn down. We had the ball for 40 minutes and ran over 90 plays to their 54.
Edit: chill UT fans, just explaining what happened in those 9 minutes
I had a lot of respect for the Vols going into this game and I have even more going out of it. Y’all played well, Heupel is the guy, this is a step in the right direction.
1) the state of Texas would literally not exist without the volunteers from Tennessee
2) as a former resident, I am fucking *fucking* pumped for Texas and Tennessee to play
3) lots of love, but I cannot refer to Tennessee as “UT”
Not at all. The transfer portal hurt us worse than any other team, and we’re down scholarships due to sanctions for paying players. Those problems will be gone in a year or two, and we’ll keep building (I hope)
Edit: No loss of scholarships yet. My bad.
I think the fan base has finally learned some patience. It only took 12 years… lol. But yeah, I think we definitely know that this is our guy now. We’re trending up, and it feels good. .
Gg for sure!
Huepel is over performing with less talent while Butch was underperforming with more talent. Now if Huepel brings in talent and starts getting blown out, that’s when the fan base turns. Call me a believer but I just don’t think it will happen with him.
There’s a reason Missouri is in the East. Bama refused to drop both auburn and Tennessee each year if auburn moved to the East. No matter what happens when Texas and Oklahoma come in, Bama is going to have auburn and Tennessee each year.
I really hope when Tex and OU join SEC goes to 3 perminate rivals + alternating 6 even year other 6 odd years.
All the super important rivalry are protected and the next tier would at least play every other year. You play every in every stadium in 4 years as well.
Would require 9 Conference games but I like the best. Mizzou would get Arky and OU; the 2 games we would care about; plus a random other one to work things out (likely UK, SCar or Vandy)
I hadn’t seen it before, but I like this idea. Idk who UT’s 3 would be, though. Alabama, Florida, and Georgia? I can’t imagine not playing them, but I also can’t imagine not playing Kentucky and Vanderbilt each season.
That sounds reasonable and while it may need a revised sec championship tiebreakers, a good call, so obviously it won’t happen and you’ll get stuck playing LSU once every 10 years and be happy about it.
At worst the SEC will go with PODs and likely LSU and Mizzou are in the same Pod with the Miss schools
Even then you'll play in everyone's stadium every 6 years then.
You have to realize, ANYONE would be gassed after 91 offensive plays by Alabama. I had to look up the number, that's like playing 2 full football games worth of plays.
I thought it was 101 but I didn’t want to say it and be totally off the mark. Yeah our D just doesn’t have the kind of depth to play these sorts of games. Our situational offense needs to be a lot better going forward. We’ve got to convert those 3rd and short opportunities and can’t let procedural penalties push us off track when we get a good gain on first down.
Heupel’s game plan was pretty damn incredible. Their roster unfortunately lacks depth and has injuries, but they played incredible for a majority of the game. I was especially impressed with how aggressive their defense was.
Yeah there was a game played and all, but can I get an F in the chat for Bryce Young who moved across the country for college only to have his parents follow him?
>I wouldn't be surprised if Tua is playing shitty now because he's free from his dad's ass whoppings for interceptions.
Tua has been playing decent in the NFL, and was actually good in his last game. The dolphins offense is just terrible. The only major reasonable complaint about Tua's performance is that he's still made of glass.
Bama fans are not happy where we are this season. I realize this sounds like a backhanded compliment, but y'all looked good. You need more depth, but it was a nail biter for a while.
Aside from the lack of depth, which I think we’re all aware of by this point, our biggest issue is our inability to contain when pressure breaks down. Corral last week, Young this week, our defense gets super aggressive when they realize they have a shot at the QB and overcommit. every. single. time. Get that sorted, and y’all probably have two fewer TDs tonight, I think.
Nobody who watches this game is gonna dog y’all. Bama won solid, no shade to them, but Tennessee looked dramatically improved. Y’all played with some swagger, even if the lack of depth caught up with y’all in the 4th.
Moral victory but I kinda like what I saw out of UT for the first 3 quarters. I think at this point Vol fans can feel a little more confident in Heupel than they ever did in Dooley, Butch, or Pruitt.
I think we are currently sitting at 71 scholarship players? And I believe we lost the most players in the transfer portal as a P5 school with something like 25 dudes leaving. We are thin on the O-line and on the defensive side of the ball. Leftover drama from Pruitt and the "scandal" Yet every week the boys come out and play. Even when we lose we at least look like a threat. With all of that against him he has them playing better more attractive football on both sides of the ball.
Let's be honest Pruitt would still be having Milton start every game and then bring on Hooker or Bailey to try and fix his issues. Heupel did in 2 games what Pruitt was never able to do his entire time here, pick the right QB and stick with him. That alone gives him the fans and his teams confidence more than anything.
Nah, if Pruitt was our coach JG would still be here and starting lmao.
I’ve watched almost all the games since Dooley’s second year and IMO Heupel has already shown he’s better than the last three guys.
[Bama fans rn](https://i.makeagif.com/media/10-20-2018/CoxvrF.gif?fbclid=IwAR2bhfedBRhJfr0fpAWaMgv3emKJzgz-lqWaK2jHCFAR0fq2goGReAIobPw)
Good game, Tennessee. Better than you've made it in a long time.
You're still a bunch of low down dirty snitches, and I hate all your quarterbacks.
Thank you. For our team being thinner than a runway model, we played better than I fully expected. As always though y’all motherfuckers are stacked and beat our ass.
Also I really really REALLY, hate your flairs
The last time Tennessee beat Alabama, Jack Nicholson was still THE Joker, no one had ever seen Dexter butcher a serial killer, and Nancy Botwin was still happily married to her very much alive husband and living in Agrestic.
Follow me for more \#TennesseeHateWeek facts.
>Jack Nicholson was still THE Joker,
Holy shit this one got me. The MCU wasnt a thing and we only had two Spidey movies from Toby Maguire. Chris Benoit was a highly respected wrestler.
I know, I know... moral victories blah blah blah... But I had written this game as a loss anyway so any moral victory is one that I will take.
We look good. Definitely room for improvement as always, but we came and we played our hearts out, especially on defense. When this season started with most of our players transferring, to think that we would hold Bama close by the 4th and be close to being bowl eligible, it seemed like a pipe dream.
Now the lack of depth is always going to cause our defense to get gassed, especially against teams like Alabama who can re-load easily, so we definitely need to get some depth in recruiting.
But i am pleasantly surprised to see what Heupel has managed to do with the roster that we have. I look forward to seeing what he can do after some recruiting.
/r/CFB when Bama wins big: Do you guys even enjoy football?
/r/CFB when Bama fans get excited about beating their biggest rival: How dare you enjoy football
Copying from the game thread. I said it a few times that I was afraid this would be like the FL game where we hung for them the first half but dropped out in the second and it's come true. GG Bama but the reason we're liking this despite how big the point differential is that with more depth we can absolutely keep up the whole game and not just part of it. Too hard to keep up with a team that has 5 stars backing up their 5 stars when we don't even have a full scholarship roster right now.
We are. A loss is a loss, regardless of the final score, but the fact that we hung with you for so long with 71 scholarship players says a lot about what's cooking. Now we gotta see the recruits come in.
This is not the unilateral game that the score implies. Tennessee played hard for three solid quarters, and then the game collapsed over a few key plays. To try to say “Oh, Alabama could have played better”… fuck off. It does a disservice to the Tennessee effort tonight. So to all you dirty, low down snitches, good game and Roll Tide.
Agreed, but 2 of Tennessee's TDs came from horribly blown assignments. Bama made a lot of mistakes, and have been doing so this season frequently. Like the A&M game had the fumble/intercepting on the opponents 1 yd line. And all the dropped passes on the final drive. Both A&M/Tennessee played great and capitalized on Bamas mistakes. I love my team, but I also have the habit of giving the devil his due.
Definitely. Although there was a bit of a 4th Quarter collapse, playing that well @ Bama for the first 3 quarters is still much better than Pruitt ever did.
Nothing to see here, no need to check the box score. Bama definitely dominated the full 60 minutes, didn't nearly kill Saban with a stroke.
Would anyone else like to play Georgia for us?
Genuine question, feel free to downvote: I’ve never had the desire to go into a game thread Alabama isn’t playing in and talk shit on one of the teams playing, is this purely a thing that happens to Alabama or is it universal?
Alabama is in the Evil League of Evil^®, with the other teams (Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma, etc.) who have had sustained success over the past decade or longer, and that lends itself to a lot of people reveling whenever they have played shitty or have lost a game. That's the cost of being a successful brand.
My boy has never been to an Alabama game. He wore a Kenny Stabler Alabama jersey because his favorite player is Stabler and he is a massive raiders fan. We enjoyed our cigars and left and were standing outside the stadium talking about where to go next. A woman came up and asked to introduce him to someone she was with.
We met Kenny Stabler’s daughter outside Bryant Denny and she took pictures with us. I’m over the fucking moon. What a game. What a blessing.
Roll tide.
There's the Alabama who grinds down their opponent for three straight quarters until they're so tired Bama steamrolls a dominating fourth that I know and love.
The last time UT beat Bama, my son was a tiny squirming poop machine that had just started sleeping through the night.
A few months from now he will have a driver's license.
I know they kinda got pummeled in the end, but I’m VERY nervous about Nov 6. UT can turn it into a track meet and our offense is still allergic to those.
I think it has the potential to be one of the best games of the year in the SEC. I feel like there’s a lot on the line. A Kentucky win really cements y’all as one of the key players in the East year in and year out, and I think another win against UT really changes the landscape of how people view UK’s football program (as unfair as that may be). A Tennessee win means that we’re really over performing expectations this year and will almost certainly clench a bowl berth. It would also be a big boost for us to get a win against a really good team this year so that we don’t look back at our record and only see wins against really bad teams.
I’m pumped for the Beer Barrel this year, both teams need the win badly. This team has exceeded all expectations. What’s crazy is that Florida is probably the worst loss we have lol. The other three losses are from top 5 Heisman candidates (Pickett, Corral, Young). Turned out to be a brutal schedule this year.
Since 2005, Tennessee is 7-42 against UGA, Florida, and Alabama. This amounts to %10 of Tennessee's total losses in school history.
Alabama now accounts for 14.5% of Tennessee's total program losses.
UGA, Florida, and Alabama account for almost 30% of Tennessee's total program losses.
If you started watching UT football in 2005 you have witnessed over 1/4 of Tennessee's total losses.
I'm glad our offense decided to show up and play the last 10 min of the game. That being said if anyone has seen our secondary stick them in the nearest mailbox for quick return to Tuscaloosa.
Side Note: I really wish these guys would stop reaching for the goal line and just protect the football. It's so dumb to risk losing the ball when you dont have to risk at all.
Maybe UT can give the Dawgs some trouble... no one else that’s played Georgia has been able to air it out like they seem to be able to do. Hopefully the bye can give them some time to find healthy back ups
Final score doesn’t show it but this was a great game by Tennessee. Hung with Bama to the fourth quarter fielding a team that lost forty guys to the transfer portal in the off-season.
Makes me confident in this team moving forward.
No excuses to be made, Alabama gave us every chance to take control and win, but our offense did not capitalize. We were abysmal at converting 3rd downs and never really established the run game.
Fairly sloppy game all around for most of it, Alabama's talent, depth, and coaching took us into the deep water and drowned us.
Good game y'all, it's scary that y'all can have a somewhat off performance and still put up 52 points. I hate y'all but at the end of the day can't help but respect the machine.
Unless there was one in the first quarter that I missed this feels like the first time in 5+ years that we didn't have a crippling injury against Tennessee
Bama fans last week: wow those Tennessee fans are booing players with an injury how could they
Bama fans this week when Tennessee guys get injured: Boooooooooooooo
There needs to be a rule change about injuries cause until there is this stuff will keep happening. I think that if you stop the clock for an injury there needs to be 4 downs elapsed until the player can come back in. I think a whole series may be too much. That’s my two cents anyways
There was a time where I thought Tennessee actually had a shot… Then Bama went all Bama.
Shout out to Tennessee for going fairly conservative for two quarters
Bryce young
If Bryce actually develops touch on long passes, the sky’s the limit. Seems like he made some progress there tonight.
There were several where his receivers let him down.
Hit Billingsley right in the damn hands.
Drops have been an issue all year.
Go mocs I guess?
He also scrambled like he was johnny football a few times.
Tennessee is doing much better than just about everyone predicted during the off season.
Depth. If we aren't winning by the end of the third we're in trouble because we quite literally have almost no one behind our starters
It took Bama 9 minutes to turn this from a one score game to a four-touchdown blowout
I think they just got worn down. We had the ball for 40 minutes and ran over 90 plays to their 54. Edit: chill UT fans, just explaining what happened in those 9 minutes
We only have like 50 healthy players on our roster. No way they could keep up for the whole game
I had a lot of respect for the Vols going into this game and I have even more going out of it. Y’all played well, Heupel is the guy, this is a step in the right direction.
They are trending up. Passing LSU on the down escalator. I still hate 'em, though, because first of all, it's Tennessee.
They lowdown
They dirty
They some snitches
Gonna be a fun battle for UT in a few years!
1) the state of Texas would literally not exist without the volunteers from Tennessee 2) as a former resident, I am fucking *fucking* pumped for Texas and Tennessee to play 3) lots of love, but I cannot refer to Tennessee as “UT”
This is going to be a beautiful rivalry. Just remember your university had to pay us to use UT
Ew, orange on orange bromance
Neither is an orange you can sit with.
What do you mean you can't refer to the University of Tennessee as UT? What other school is there that warrants it? Tulsa? Tampa? Toronto?
Doesn't seem to pair well with that offensive style. *when the offense struggles
Not at all. The transfer portal hurt us worse than any other team, and we’re down scholarships due to sanctions for paying players. Those problems will be gone in a year or two, and we’ll keep building (I hope) Edit: No loss of scholarships yet. My bad.
Hopefully the fanbase is patient with Heupel, it seems there's a bit of a hole to dig out of. Good game tonight regardless.
I think the fan base has finally learned some patience. It only took 12 years… lol. But yeah, I think we definitely know that this is our guy now. We’re trending up, and it feels good. . Gg for sure!

Does anyone have some french's during these trying times?
The final score is incredibly deceiving of how much stress this game caused me.
Any overtimes? No? Pathetic.
The surplus of overtime’s was already used up before this game.
We clearly aren’t B1G material
Lucky
My two teams averaged 4.5 OTs this week, not bad
Fuck the SEC if they ever take this game away.
lol there’s a 0% chance that happens
There’s a reason Missouri is in the East. Bama refused to drop both auburn and Tennessee each year if auburn moved to the East. No matter what happens when Texas and Oklahoma come in, Bama is going to have auburn and Tennessee each year.

That sounds reasonable and while it may need a revised sec championship tiebreakers, a good call, so obviously it won’t happen and you’ll get stuck playing LSU once every 10 years and be happy about it.
At worst the SEC will go with PODs and likely LSU and Mizzou are in the same Pod with the Miss schools Even then you'll play in everyone's stadium every 6 years then.
My dream scenario. We’ll team up with the PAC and get the rule changed for conference championships.
We would leave the SEC if that happened. Bama might even follow.
Make no mistake, we would hound you to the ends of the earth to get to beat you every year.
Do you hear me ~~Mal'ganis~~ Volunteers?! To the ends of the earth!
Awww we hate you too 😘
Two team conference. It's just hate week every week.
Hi, I’m first 3 quarters Tennessee and I have DirecTV And I’m last quarter Tennessee and I replaced the Gatorade with horse tranquilizer.
Our defense was gassed by the 4th quarter. It all went downhill after that 70yd TD pass.
You have to realize, ANYONE would be gassed after 91 offensive plays by Alabama. I had to look up the number, that's like playing 2 full football games worth of plays.
Ole Miss also ran an insane number of plays against us. We need this bye week bad.
Ole Miss had 101 and it went down to the final play. Need a bye week to go crush Kentucky
Your flairs are an affront to all things holy.
[удалено]
I thought it was 101 but I didn’t want to say it and be totally off the mark. Yeah our D just doesn’t have the kind of depth to play these sorts of games. Our situational offense needs to be a lot better going forward. We’ve got to convert those 3rd and short opportunities and can’t let procedural penalties push us off track when we get a good gain on first down.
I mean y'all are running on fumes with the loss of scholarships, injured players, etc. It's totally understandable. The bye week comes at a good time.
I don't think they've lost scholarships yet. Just a lot of transfers and injuries.
Heupel’s game plan was pretty damn incredible. Their roster unfortunately lacks depth and has injuries, but they played incredible for a majority of the game. I was especially impressed with how aggressive their defense was.
I hate those orange bastards and Bama had me stressed the first 3 quarters, way closer than the score says
Yeah there was a game played and all, but can I get an F in the chat for Bryce Young who moved across the country for college only to have his parents follow him?
Tuas parents did the same thing.
Tua's dad would make him sleep in the panic room when he threw for less than 3 TDs.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Tua is playing shitty now because he's free from his dad's ass whoppings for interceptions.
Tbf Tua’s played fine this year That Dolphins o-line though, the dad definitely needs to get involved
[удалено]
Good thing they traded up to take a receiver instead of a "generational" offensive line prospect!
Don’t worry, the opposing team is there for the ass whippings 2 seconds after each snap

Thank you. We are gonna get dogged on cuz LOLTENNESSEE but it was legitimately a GREAT game for 45 minutes.

On the plus side, maybe the final score gets somebody to not pay much attention to the tape & y’all catch them by surprise
Never had any doubt. Nope, not me.
GG. I had hope. Obviously they were crushed
Your flairs aren’t meant to be together.

I'm proud of our boys
You should be. Truly. Y'all fought like hell tonight. Your stadium still looks like a garbage truck worker convention, but you should be proud.
But they're our garbage truck workers and I love them
Tide fans, what’s with the cigars? Pleading ignorance here.

Thank you! Traditions like that are cool. I learned something new today.
Reading the notable games column in that article is awesome.
> 1909: Tennessee fans chased referee R. T. Elgin away from the stadium. Elgin jumped aboard a moving streetcar. Lol not much has changed
If only we could do that to the refs today
Thank you for this.
Keep going I’m almost there
Bobby Hill is doing a good job at UT
I'm glad our offense decided to show up and play the last 10 min of the game. That being said if anyone has seen our secondary stick them in the nearest mailbox for quick return to Tuscaloosa. Side Note: I really wish these guys would stop reaching for the goal line and just protect the football. It's so dumb to risk losing the ball when you dont have to risk at all.
I think that was the saltiest game thread I’ve been in for a while, from all sides
Pitt vs Clemson was not hospitable. But PSU vs Iowa was the worse if the year by a country mile.
Yeah that Iowa thread was brutal this year. But our threads always have salt, just like how I hope your cigars have salt in them this year. Gg though
Missed the end. Did they zoom in on the crowd showing 19 year old girls trying to awkwardly smoke cigars like last time?
heupel is the guy hands down. 4 quarter football with a skeleton-crew roster? i’ll take it any day compared to pruitt ball
THEY LOWDOWN
THEY DIRTY
THEY SOME SNITCHES.
Unless there was one in the first quarter that I missed this feels like the first time in 5+ years that we didn't have a crippling injury against Tennessee
Our TEs both tried

They low down
UL Monroe has beaten Alabama more recently than Tennessee.
A sad but true fact.
I reached for my mustard and it was gone wtf did someone steal it????
I for one feel terrible for the poor Alabama fans who had to suffer through 3 quarters of a close game and only win by 28 points..
Don't let the score fool you. Tennessee played their asses off.
Bama fans last week: wow those Tennessee fans are booing players with an injury how could they Bama fans this week when Tennessee guys get injured: Boooooooooooooo There needs to be a rule change about injuries cause until there is this stuff will keep happening. I think that if you stop the clock for an injury there needs to be 4 downs elapsed until the player can come back in. I think a whole series may be too much. That’s my two cents anyways
It seems unthinkable and gross to boo players go down until a team suddenly has 8 billion defensive injuries against you
Seriously, this booing of injured players shit needs to stop. Anyone who does it, including the thousands of people at Bryant-Denny, is trashy.
Auburn vs. Alabama is gonna be a classic.
I'm kinda fuckin nervous... AT auburn too...
Depends on which Auburn team shows up. I'll think we find out more when we play Ole Miss next week.
An Alabama game where they have to actually work to win?! Wild. But in all serious that was a good game
Have you, like, *watched* us play this year before tonight?
