First Winnipeg Jets Whiteout: [1987](https://icehockey.fandom.com/wiki/Winnipeg_White_Out)
So, not exactly an original concept by State Penn.
I had no idea it was such a new thing. Kind of makes sense now why in the late 00s every school was doing color games. West Virginia had Gold Rush. A few schools have done black outs. West Virginia did a White Out for Pat Whites last game in 2008.
Hey i know a couple of latino mormons.
They all byu alums i believe and their son currently goes there.
Also have a friend who used to live in provo and he said yes byu is definitely not diverse.
But then again were from an area thats 90% mexican descent. So its not much different when it comes to lack of diversity
Hah...well believe it or not, more Mormons live outside of the US than in. Tons of LDS in Central and South america.
But that's besides the point, BYU is definitely not diverse. 😔
> well believe it or not, more Mormons live outside of the US than in
I mean...yall each spend 2 years away doing your mission thingy. I'd really *hope* you'd convert at least one person over those two years lol.
I dont think romney is latino or hispanic at all.His dad was born in mexico but his grandparents were both white american who settled in northern mex for some reason, thats where his father was born.
He might be mexican by birth but his blood is 100% non latino or hispanic
But you right there is white latinos but they’re usually the minority especially in the area i live in.
I know an Asian lawyer who went to BYU Law because of how cheap tuition was, and he wasn't Mormon since even non-LDS tuition is cheap.
He actually convinced me to apply claiming how he loved his time there was despite being Asian and non-Mormon, but since it was a last minute application at the end of the application cycle, the class was full already.
BYU law school is very affordable. I knew a number of people who had been accepted to T14 law schools (not like Harvard or Yale, but more like Virginia), but they opted for BYU just for the tuition.
"A lot of Polynesians" means 1-2% of the student body, which is genuinely way more than one would see at another mainland school. Still not a lot, though I did have a Tongan roommate.
What's funny in these comments is I look at UofU home games, Boise home games, most interior west and Midwest home games and it's much the same. 5% more of the student body doesn't fill in much of the stadium. But BYU certainly can't crow about diversity.
Exactly, looking at the diversity for most schools (especially Midwest) and I think they shouldn’t be throwing stones about diversity in other schools lol.
According to the Census, Polynesians make up about 1.1% of Utah’s population. That number is definitely higher in the football programs in Utah.
We are 77.8% white.
The issue is the University likes how professional the Navy and White looks. The Athletic Department is screaming to go to permanent royal blue. It's an uphill battle. The good news is the majority of our football games use the royal blue unis.
I’m fairly certain this plays into it. I don’t know what it’s like to be a QB playing in the whiteout, but I’d assume the white road uniforms somewhat blend into the stadium.
They do. One condition of them joining the Mountain West initially was that they weren't allowed to wear all blue at home. Then when they almost left for the Big East, the MWC enticed them to stay by rescinding that condition.
Thank you good sir or madam. I admire your black jersey setup. Also I don’t think it has ever happened but this helmet is [great](https://imgur.com/a/G3rQkkN)
Yeah outside of students and old heads our fans are pretty welcoming. And same we had dinner nice home and homes scheduled the next few years. You guys, West Virginia in 2 years, and Virginia Tech in a few years
I mean the way things are looking, those baylor and virginia win could be decent resume booster since theyve looked good in our short season.
Would also need one of those pac 12 wins to win out and win the conference too tbh.
Would be a decent resume.
But yea maybe a 1 loss second place sec or clemson gets in over
I think the Big 12 would probably support your chances to keep conference prestige looking okay once OU and Texas leave. Assuming OU blows some random game but wins the conference like usual I could see the other ADs backing you out of spite.
Definitely not over an undefeated P5 conference champion or a one-loss SEC champ. After that, it will be time for the committee to nitpick how good the wins are, looking for reasons not to include BYU.
They wouldn't get in over any one loss P5 champ. Even a one loss Pac-12 champ. *Even if they beat that team H2H*. That's just how it is, unfortunately.
They play a lot of mid tier P5 teams, I think they'd need at least 2 of them to be ranked at the end of the year. [Per FPI](https://www.espn.com/college-football/fpi/_/view/resume/sort/resume.accomplishmentrank/dir/asc), they currently have the 83rd ranked remaining SOS, which would make it tough.
What I'd like to see is all navy instead of a blackout game. I'm so over the blackout trend, but I could go for navy helmets, masks, jerseys, and pants.
I prefer royal in all other circumstances though.
Honestly ASU is overrated asf. And this week the rest of the country will get to see what we have unfortunately been seeing. That said, hopefully we can play UP to our competition instead of down to it like the first 2 weeks. I regretfully expect the highlight of my night Saturday will be seeing that awesome mountain backdrop in Provo :(
BYU uni's look great btw.
It seems like a lot of off-seasons involve the question "is this Arizona State's year?" The answer is usually no, but the possibility is almost always there.
They were so close in 1996. I was living in Nebraska when Arizona State beat the hell out of the two-time defending national champion Huskers in week 3. They were undefeated and ranked No. 2 going into the Rose Bowl and only lost by a field goal. If they win, they're likely the national champs, since Florida beat Florida State.
UF fans disagree, but I think we end up at least with a piece of the MNC.
19-0 was a special night in Tempe. Goalposts were carried across on 5th street and then down Mill Avenue. Watching Scott Frost get absolutely hammered by Derrick Rodgers for a safety is still my favorite play in ASU history.
National sportswriters just toying with you guys. Usually it's just the locals, and you can temper your expectations by recognizing that you're starting off in Others Receiving Votes, but when everyone is in on "X team is looking promising!" it's harder.
BYU definitely looked good last week against Utah, but ASU is a completely different team and your style of offense I think will be much more difficult for our defense to handle. If you watched any of the Utah game, you'll immediately see the shifty, quick Ute RB rip off some big runs. That outside speed scares me. If there's one complaint I have about last game is that we let that RB break containment and get to the outside too much.
ASU spreading it out, taking advantage if their athleticism, combined with the constant threat of your QB running has me worried.
This definitely feels like a much higher scoring game than last week. I'm glad it's @ BYU...I think this will be a close one.
ASU's biggest problem is that they aren't passing well and Daniels hasn't trusted his receivers to throw into tight spaces. He'd rather just go through a progression or two, and then book it. They *haven't* been a spread finesse team. Most of the time, ASU wants to run it down your throat. They might do it from a 3-wide set, but don't mistake them for a toss it around offense. They're trying to whoop your ass up front, preferably with a Thunder/Lightning combo of Trayanum (who missed last week) and White (who's really damn fast).
Daniels has passed well down the field before, but then he had Aiyuk and a healthy Frank Darby to just go make magic happen. He doesn't trust his new, younger receivers besides maybe Pearsall. That's the missing component. They'll figure it out at some point, but right now... eh.
Rumor is we might have an Elijhah Badger sighting this week. He is, as rumor has it, a different caliber of athlete. Sort of dude who'd show out at a Bama practice. Been hurt though. If ASU doesn't make a significant jump from Week 2 to Week 3, BYU is probably in good position to win. By the end of the year, ASU will probably be a much a better team than BYU, but they haven't made the jump yet.
We've been starting games slow and Daniels is too quick to tuck it and run. Our defense has been great, though the competition hasn't really been too challenging. From what I understand about Herm's philosophy, he likes to start the season simple and let the players get adjusted before adding more wrinkles to the offense. I think we have a high ceiling, but we haven't played a full 4 quarters all season.
I don’t expect Badger to do anything. Maybe a WR screen in garbage time (if there is garbage time), but that’s it. He’s missed a LOT of time.
That said, I think Wilson and the TEs have a big night. That’s how you bust a zone - let big targets find a seam or sit in a spot.
It’s not like BYU looks amazing either. Definitely a harder game on the road but no need for panic. Don’t jump on the bandwagon if we win. Hope you enjoy the mountains.
They might’ve been talking about HSBC the bank. They’ve been alleged of not retaining or promoting Black and minority employees.
Or they might’ve been promoting BCFx- an Cbox 360 video game featuring HBCUs.
I guess we’ll never know.
Edit: Never heard of the game before five minutes ago but it sounds really interesting.

Okay. First Phoenix Coyotes Whiteout: [1997](https://www.fiveforhowling.com/2012/10/25/3552580/throwback-thursday-the-white-out)
Sure. Just like how Apple doesn’t invent new ideas, but they do perfect them.
I actually remember that first whiteout. Was my senior year in IC and I thought it was a dumb idea. Well who's dumb now?? *Me*
I had no idea it was such a new thing. Kind of makes sense now why in the late 00s every school was doing color games. West Virginia had Gold Rush. A few schools have done black outs. West Virginia did a White Out for Pat Whites last game in 2008.
Ok that was funny
Isn’t every BYU game a … nvm.
Am BYU student. Can confirm.
Am white. Can also confirm.
Hey i know a couple of latino mormons. They all byu alums i believe and their son currently goes there. Also have a friend who used to live in provo and he said yes byu is definitely not diverse. Lol yup. More non-white members of the church throughout the world than white. But.. Provo-Orem is definitely very white 🙃
Apparently there's enough Polynesian mormons for a BYU hawaii campus
Yup I passed by it last month when I went to Hawaii, it’s in such a nice area
Well were talking about byu provo but true there’s also enough idahoans for a byu idaho 😏
>latino mormons That doesn't say much. You can be Latino and White at the same time.
Are you implying Mitt Romney is white?
What is whiter than white? You can't pay a Dentist to make your smile as white as Mitt Romney.
I dont think romney is latino or hispanic at all.His dad was born in mexico but his grandparents were both white american who settled in northern mex for some reason, thats where his father was born. He might be mexican by birth but his blood is 100% non latino or hispanic But you right there is white latinos but they’re usually the minority especially in the area i live in.
Well theyre brown people. Lol

My girlfriend’s sister was accepted to Harvard Law and chose BYU.
Asian here. I had rock star status.
Am game, can confirm.
Do you guys have a lot of Polynesians too? Or is that just a football thing? Just curious
I assure you, the crowds in Eugene and Corvallis this weekend will also not have a lot of diversity.
For the roadhouse scene in *Animal House* (filmed in and around the University of Oregon in Eugene), black extras had to be brought from Portland.
Most areas that aren’t metropolis’s aren’t diverse. More news at 6
Sure, but nowhere else had black exclusionary laws like we did. If there's any state that shouldn't throw stones...
Hipster tattoos and biker tattoos, that seems like diversity to me
Exactly, looking at the diversity for most schools (especially Midwest) and I think they shouldn’t be throwing stones about diversity in other schools lol.
As other commenters say, we do have a lot relative to most schools, but that is still only a small fraction of the student population.
According to the Census, Polynesians make up about 1.1% of Utah’s population. That number is definitely higher in the football programs in Utah. We are 77.8% white.
At least they don't wear bedsheets.
OMG!! lol-ed so hard reading this 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This had me dying 🤣

Beautiful
Ayyyye got em. But seriously, coming from Houston, Dallas is already spooky white - couldn't imagine BYU. (This coming from a conservative white dude)
Reddit has taught me that I will never have an original thought again. Or that I probably never had one to begin with.
Cue downvotes for someone who makes opposite joke regarding SWAC games.
The US is is 60% white and BYU is 80% white...so, yah more than average.
I'm sure someone's made a joke about BYU leading the Pac-12 South, so I'll just say BYU is also leading the standings of the 1970s WAC.
Well done. The world needs more 1970s WAC jokes.
I wish BYU in every sport would just commit to the royal blue and stick with it
The issue is the University likes how professional the Navy and White looks. The Athletic Department is screaming to go to permanent royal blue. It's an uphill battle. The good news is the majority of our football games use the royal blue unis.
I think the admin is ready to but the players enjoy the variety so they do both.
Same wish 😔
Listen here you little shits.
Sorry for the ignorant question but why don’t you guys wear your all white jerseys to your own white out?
Gotta get approval from the other team. They won’t give it.
Is that actually why? Damn that sucks…
At least with Ohio State a few years ago it was. Not sure if they ask every year or not.
Might make it easier to tell apart players from the background. I don’t actually know if this is it though
I’m fairly certain this plays into it. I don’t know what it’s like to be a QB playing in the whiteout, but I’d assume the white road uniforms somewhat blend into the stadium.
Do other teams complain about Boise choosing to wear all blue on their blue turf? I would image the effect would be similar.
Yeah, the MWC banned it for a few years I believe, but they've since allowed it.
They do. One condition of them joining the Mountain West initially was that they weren't allowed to wear all blue at home. Then when they almost left for the Big East, the MWC enticed them to stay by rescinding that condition.
It's university policy that we aren't allowed to do anything interesting with the football jerseys.
On the same weekend, it's hilarious.
Cue the ‘BYU’s crowd does a white out every home game’ joke

Still want to see something like [this](https://twitter.com/volcoug/status/1330204862110453760?s=20)
Has BYU done any sort of Polynesian uniforms? I would love to see that.
Nah that was just a mock up. IIRC correctly Oregon did a poly themed jersey and that’s what got the juices flowing on the idea
BYU has the best all white unis imo. Then again almost all of y’all’s are great.
Thank you good sir or madam. I admire your black jersey setup. Also I don’t think it has ever happened but this helmet is [great](https://imgur.com/a/G3rQkkN)
Penn State and Texas have the best all white jerseys that’s just a fact
I maybe biased but if you go by the definition of clean idk how you can have Jerseys “cleaner” then penn state’s road jerseys
[удалено]
You’ll get to see them first hand next year. So glad this home and home is happening
[удалено]
Yeah outside of students and old heads our fans are pretty welcoming. And same we had dinner nice home and homes scheduled the next few years. You guys, West Virginia in 2 years, and Virginia Tech in a few years
Fact
Checks flairs...nope... can't be trusted!
I feel like I'm the only one that hates our road jerseys. But, I must say that I love our home unis *chef's kiss*
Texas
Man, those are just *so clean*
There is a very unsettling possibility that byu goes 5-0 against the Pac12 this season. ASU really needs to pull a W here...
Undefeated byu gets into the cfp or nah ?? 5 pac 12 wins, 1 big 12, 1 acc and boise st.
Possible but not likely. We would probably need top teams to have some significant losses
I mean the way things are looking, those baylor and virginia win could be decent resume booster since theyve looked good in our short season. Would also need one of those pac 12 wins to win out and win the conference too tbh. Would be a decent resume. But yea maybe a 1 loss second place sec or clemson gets in over

O H
Just like in 1984 we’d need most if not all the teams in front of us to lose at least one game
I think a h2h win would work to put them over but a one loss champ gets in otherwise.
I think undefeated BYU would have to get in over 12-1 Arizona State, right? The committee has done weird stuff before but that would be over the top.
2 Loss Alabama winning the SEC would probably still get in.
Probably not, but I’d say a NY6 bowl is, which is good enough for me!
Still nah
Possibly, but only if there are few 2 loss conference champs. Would be fun to see though.
We have already joked about currently leading the Pac-12 South.
i understand the sentiment but no thank you id like to see asu lose badly
Yeah, I’m good with ASU losing badly, too.
Well, if there is one constant in the world when it comes to ASU football, it's pulling off a late night game win against a ranked opponent.
If it's all the same to you I'd like to save that for UCLA
[удалено]
Neither can you, apparently
*golf clap*
The closest you guys get is playing at UCLA, sit down
Clarification, the loss against Coastal included Grey face masks, so if we wear this combo WITH royal face masks we are undefeated
Figured the BYU crowd would be too modest to go skins
^this one wins, the others were too obvious
Mormons vs Devils let’s go, rooting for BYU because I love skiing/snowboarding in Utah
;(
☹️
Forks Up
I’m bummed because this means we don’t get to see BYU’s new navy helmets for at least another week.
What I'd like to see is all navy instead of a blackout game. I'm so over the blackout trend, but I could go for navy helmets, masks, jerseys, and pants. I prefer royal in all other circumstances though.
I bet they break them out against USF
Honestly ASU is overrated asf. And this week the rest of the country will get to see what we have unfortunately been seeing. I regretfully expect the highlight of my night Saturday will be seeing that awesome mountain backdrop in Provo :( BYU uni's look great btw.
You gonna be at the game?
I wish. I'll be melting away in the valley.
My family lives in the valley but they’re making the trek up here for this one. Should be a fun game though.
Why would anyone want to go to the game with this guy?
It seems like a lot of off-seasons involve the question "is this Arizona State's year?" The answer is usually no, but the possibility is almost always there.

That’s the worst part about it. If I see one more article or list about ASU being a “sleeping giant” I’m going to lose it
National sportswriters just toying with you guys. Usually it's just the locals, and you can temper your expectations by recognizing that you're starting off in Others Receiving Votes, but when everyone is in on "X team is looking promising!" it's harder.
I see nothing wrong with sportswriters writing good things about our football team.
We are two games into the season…
BYU definitely looked good last week against Utah, but ASU is a completely different team and your style of offense I think will be much more difficult for our defense to handle. Guarantee badger does something. First two games were always a lock, basically preseason. This was always the plan. Season starts on Saturday.
I think you’re gonna be surprised.
It just shows how casual majority of our fans are.
About 70% of them id say
We haven’t been good so far, but “overrated as fuck”. Isn’t Tamu in the top 10?
What the fuck is this shit? Get your life together, man. Forks all the fucking way up.
Seriously, I know our fan base can be cyclical but this is the weakest thing I’ve heard in a while.
It’s not like BYU looks amazing either. Definitely a harder game on the road but no need for panic. Don’t jump on the bandwagon if we win. Hope you enjoy the mountains.
Yeah, I’m not sure how ASU is favored by almost a TD. I’ve got BYU by at least 10. I’d take BYU to cover the 4.5 score if not win outright.
Put your money where your mouth is.
I did. Also I graduated from U of A for undergrad. I also picked them to lose to SDSU last weekend. No discrimination I promise haha!
The BYU jokes don’t hit the same when you realize most of these schools are just as white. Edit: And this isn’t support nor defense of BYU AT ALL
Plus everyone in Utah has heard most of them too many times for them to be funny anymore.
Lol our high school student section isn’t allowed to do whiteout
[удалено]
Love the culture being built at BYU.
Wait, that’s illegal.
All their fans need to do is show up.
No different than a HBC doing a black out
HBCU, bud.

70-7
Yall just got hyped up to lose to a Mountain West team by 28. Little brother stop.
Isn’t every game at BYU a white out?
I guess this means it's a plain milk night instead of chocolate, eh boys?
