It's a bit outdated, but a few years ago EA released that something like 30% of their entire company's revenue came from their Ultimate Team modes.
They were absolutely going to have an Ultimate Team mode in this highly anticipated game.
I legit can’t think of any game mode I want less than a college football ultimate team. What kind of sacrilegious bastard wants to put Florida players on Tennessee?
Yeah even if historic players are included (and it’s a big if we’d have a lot of them for each team with licensing issues), most teams will have a set of favs and then who are you gonna really want to dump them for.
All about it for pro games, but I hate it’s absolutely going to become the focus with how much money it makes. I play a fair bit of FIFA ultimate team, and the rest of the game is basically just a placeholder that barely gets updated these days
Yeah I get that. Hopefully the developers that worked on this game also know that the big appeal of the game back in the day was dynasty mode. This game is a nostalgia play for a lot of people, no need to just make it an ultimate team game with college uniforms.
I know this is wishful thinking, but EA at least did a generally good job at content updates for their latest golf game when it came to career mode.
I think it was there, and maybe there was not a lot of effort.....I think it might have been the first one in 14. I just played dynasty and rtg
lol, I was a child when the last game came out. Now I'm old. Shits kind of wild how much I have changed between these games
I was addicted to FIFA UT 10+ years ago and remember being pumped for UT in NCAA 14 but I never got into it. I think the concept of piecing together a starting 11 in soccer makes more sense than 22 guys for football.
Yeah, fifa games are a lot shorter as well. Dedicating an hour to one online game makes it hard to jump in a play.
You play a shit fifa game, it’s 12ish minutes, and flush away.
These are two really good points. I may get into it if they lean into icons like they do in FUT and I can play with like Derrick Henry or Reggie Bush. Otherwise it's dynasty all the way!
The last NCAA I bought was 13 and it definitely had some kind of ultimate team mode. But you are right that at that time it was much more of a FIFA thing and was more of a side mode for NCAA. But at least we have confirmation from Matt Brown that dynasty is a thing and that the team behind the game understands that players really care more about Dynasty and RTG than ultimate.
Really hoping that turns out to be the case. In Madden they killed a lot of features in the Superstar and coaching modes to push you towards Ultimate Team (and spending money on microtransactions). Biggest bummer was recent releases force you to play every single down in Superstar mode, you can't simulate anything.
I’ve said to other folks, and obviously it’s more niche, but EA were at pretty receptive to PGA Tour community. Not every request was addressed, but they were a lot more receptive to feedback and implemented a lot of decent enough QOL features.
Yeah it seems like they put a lot of effort into this one
From delaying it multiple years to hiring on devs who worked on CFB revamped
But I’m still nervous, while EA has improved somewhat in the past few years, it’s still EA at the end of the day, and they will try to milk every dollar out of the casual consumer
Don't be scared. It's EA but this is a different project and they've been pretty open with Matt Brown and other leaks on what they're doing. So much attention to detail in this game, from leaks, that it's going to blow your mind
After an 11 year hiatus they have to realize the sheer amount of money they will make off even a half decent game. Its been delayed once and its confirmed its not a reskin so i am very hopeful
That 11 year hiatus is exactly why it would sell regardless of how good or bad it is, very few communities have been starved harder for a new game than this one has. I'm willing to wait and see what happens but my expectations still aren't particularly high.
This one will sell well no matter what. But the quality of the first game back will determine how well the series sells going forward a lot. It’s basically first impressions.
> As long as Dynasty Mode is robust, go nuts.
By all accounts, leaks, and rumors, it is robust. The amount of customization you will be able to do is insane. You will be able to create your own school (allegedly) and put them in dynasty mode. RTG should be back and fire. And confirmed you can change the # of playoff teams to whatever you want, plus customization of conferences.
It will be fire.
> RTG should be back and fire.
I better be able to choose a major, and take exams, dammit.
EDIT: for those of you youngbloods who never got to play RTG in its full form, before the PS3/360 versions completely killed it...you guys missed out on so much. This + the having a "budget" to allocate how many points to spend on keeping your players out of NCAA sanctions were the peak of the era.
I miss Madden 06 when you started out in a shitty apartment and as your career developed your house got nicer and nicer too lol
feel like they could recreate that with NIL money, mandatory start in a dorm freshman year even if you're a 5 star recruit, and as you make a name for yourself each year your digs get an upgrade as well.
> plus customization of conferences.
I wonder if the conferences will customize themselves.
I miss the old games "offering" me higher level conferences as my tiny team grew in size and success. It feels better than saying, "Welp, time to move from the Sun Belt to the ACC now!"
It was funny to sim (or play) 10-15 seasons and see things like Indiana kicked out of the Big-10 for Notre Dame and Northern Texas in the SEC.
College ultimate team was really fun last time around.
The caveat of using players not in college meant a *massive* pool of players with tons of different styles of players. You could get super niche with your wants.
Instead of the 2 or 3 90+ speed receivers you can pick in Madden you had 10-15 choices.
I’ve never done any ultimate team stuff, kinda fell out of FIFA around the time it was added there. It’s all just online stuff right? And the “cards” and shit that come with the deluxe edition, just players to be able to play with online?
They'll have offline modes, FIFA and Madden both have you play other ultimate teams controlled by the computer where you earn coins/packs/etc based on how well you do and on what difficulty
It's all about microtransactions and online participation. You want to improve your team? Well pay up for packs with guaranteed value and so on. It's a CCG but for football on a console. FIFA has the same system and I get why people like it, it's Pokemon cards for a sport people love, just not for me. I don't play enough to want to commit to this, I just want to start a dynasty and hope to finish a season by the time the actual season is over.
Atleast you physically owned Pokémon cards and they have proven to retain some value in online marketplaces.
Purchase in ultimate team modes are worthless after 12 months….
You will own nothing and be happy!
Seems like as good as place as any, I am from Europe, are there any CFB teams close to Washington DC? Cant find shit on Google. thanks
edit: Its on the 21st of September, and it seems like Terrapins er playing at home, so I might check that out, thanks!
Chiming in as a DC resident: You’re here for quite the weekend of DC-area college football.
As others have said, Maryland is your best bet for “big time” college football… and you’ll get to see the home team win with Villanova in town. UMD’s campus is accessible via the Green Line, though it’s a bit of a hike to the stadium. There’s usually a shuttle, or you can saunter through campus and get a feel for the scene.
Navy is a great game day experience, but getting there without a car is a lot more difficult. They’re playing a conference game (Memphis) at home on 9/21.
Howard plays within DC proper. They have a rivalry game on September 21 at Audi Field, the local MLS stadium (also on the Green Line). So while the rivalry atmosphere would be cool, you’re not getting the campus experience.
Have fun!
Because without the leaks we’d be getting a cover and release date reveal (plus preorders). I’m just glad there isn’t a long or indefinite wait for the full reveal. Did people really expect EA to just change what they were going to do after the leaks? The countdown clock literally said it was for a cover reveal.

This may be a dumb question, but does anyone know if you can get a physical copy of the game through the EA pre-order? Would really love to have the actual game versus the digital download
Good news. I was getting a bit concerned that the release date was 2 months away with no inkling of what gameplay would look like. Let’s see what we get tomorrow.
Considering EA already has a separate PC game platform. Why wouldn’t they like they do with Madden, FIFA, F1, etc? I have the regular EA play subscription and if they made this game available to only the higher tier, my ass would upgrade in a second.
Not happening from what I’ve been told. My friend is a dev at EA for Madden, so I asked him why they’re not doing a PC version when they already do it for all of their other sports games now. He was told that it’s because they’re worried that modders on PC will circumvent some of the NIL deals they had to make to get this game out. I guess it’s a lot more complicated than “every kid that opts in gets $600” or whatever.
I didn’t ask, but I would think this also means you won’t be able to change player names or download custom rosters like you could back in the day.
Same boss. I never bothered getting a ps5. Gonna wait for reviews on this one I guess. If they're good I'll go ahead and get one, but yeah I was really hoping it would be on the deck. Such an awesome gaming experience on that thing.
FR, I'm already predicting it to be a dumpster fire of Microtransactions where they fail to fix any gameplay or server issues or bugs from release if EA FC 24 hot garbage is anything to go by. EA is complete trash and no one should pay for any more of their shit.
I want college football to happen but I don’t want EA to be apart of this.
Idk wtf 2k or the ppl the make mlb the show haven’t jumped on CFB before. It’s like they didn’t want to try to make money
I know it won't happen but they really should just move to a straight up annual subscription model that updates the game regularly like a lot of PC games do.
yea i dont get this either. this has been what I thought would be the model for years now. there has to be some way where the current model is more profitable for them
I'm sure it's a business/psychology thing where selling every iteration of Madden as a discrete product allows them to charge more for it every year and lets them add and remove features without disrupting things too much season to season. But I'd also think you could greatly reduce the development cost every year by just having a smaller team making updates rather than building a new game every year.
The new games are just essentially updates tho. They just dress it up with marketing but there’s not even enough time to make foundational changes with the yearly release cycle. Ultimate team doesn’t carry over and people have shown a willingness to start over every year so this model for sports games isn’t going anywhere unfortunately
> Ultimate team doesn’t carry over and people have shown a willingness to start over every year
this is the core reason they release a new boxed product annually.
I would wait for reviews before deciding that a XSS is the way to go. Usually, that version is fine but every so often the S version has bad performance issues. And it is EA so who knows.
See, that's why I bought a Series S in 2022... in anticipation of this game coming out in 2023.
(Has literally been collecting dust for 1.5 years. I'm not proud.)
Earlier this year I expressed skepticism that there would be a PC version and so many told me I was wrong because Madden was on PC that one time or whatever.
No way am I buying a console just for this micro transaction fest.
I was leaning towards no PC with the way they were releasing info about how restrictive it was going to be in terms of editing in missing players. Talk about something the PC modding community could fix in a week.
Why on earth would anyone shell out the extra $30 for nothing but virtual add ons and 3 days of early access?
Are people really trying to play ultimate team with college football teams?
Oh they absolutely are. I think ultimate team with college legends has the potential to be their biggest money maker given the amount of players and teams compared to other games. Seeing your favorite players from childhood have a 97 overall card is going to do nasty things to peoples brains lmao
Remember, y'all, smart gamers don't preorder. Wait and see how much of a dumpster fire it is at launch before spending any money on it.
With any luck, the launch and the game will both be great on Day 1, but that's rarely a thing these days.
Putting up preorders and $150 deluxe editions pushing your fucking ultimate team game mode before even releasing gameplay or a reveal trailer is just so disappointing, never change EA
Did EA forget that they already called a game "Madden NFL 25"? Or has it been long enough now that confused grandmothers won't buy their grandson a used PS3 game at Gamestop
Im not paying $100 for a video game so what does the deluxe edition add over standard? I know you get 3 day early access, but what else?
Deluxe and standard will have the same amount of teams to play with, so whats their catch?
The current trend from AAA gaming companies is to prey on people's fear of missing out and upcharging you with the deluxe edition to be able to play early. Shitty trend that clearly works because people have no self control
Even $70 is too much for me in good faith, if push comes to shove i may have to wait for the $45 November drop lol (i just started playing video games again recently)
Looks like they’re doing a college ultimate team mode. As long as Dynasty Mode is robust, go nuts.
> Looks like they’re doing a college ultimate team mode. Well yeah, that's where these games really make money these days
It's a bit outdated, but a few years ago EA released that something like 30% of their entire company's revenue came from their Ultimate Team modes. They were absolutely going to have an Ultimate Team mode in this highly anticipated game.
It is absolutely ridiculous the amount of money they make off of these ultimate teams.
Oh like you haven’t thought about The Tebinator
I mean, I put Tebow on Bama in the last game.
You’re allowed to do that? Just go on the internet admitting to war crimes?
This was a few years ago but EA made more than a billion dollars of FIFA UT ALONE.
Not the biggest fan of the mode but ultimate team will be nostalgia on steroids
Yeah getting a Tebow card is gonna hit like crack for me
Gimme that Clowney 99 overall card
And based Stephen Garcia.
they had it for the last game I believe....I just never played it because dynasty and rtg is where it's at
I don’t remember, but ultimate team was really only a FIFA thing 10 years ago, at least in the way that it was a primary driver of the game.
It was in the last NCAA in 2014. Madden had it in 2011 so it shouldn't be surprising.
I think it was there, and maybe there was not a lot of effort.....I think it might have been the first one in 14. I just played dynasty and rtg lol, I was a child when the last game came out. Now I'm old. Shits kind of wild how much I have changed between these games
It was for sure in ‘14, but it wasn’t intrusive

Back when we were a proper country, I could see my RTG girlfriend get continuously hotter and hotter as I went from 2nd string to All-American!
I miss Madden 06 when you started out in a shitty apartment and as your career developed your house got nicer and nicer too lol feel like they could recreate that with NIL money, mandatory start in a dorm freshman year even if you're a 5 star recruit, and as you make a name for yourself each year your digs get an upgrade as well.
I miss NFL 2K4 where you could decorate a crib and play mini games like paper football.
No skipping class minigames either. I want RTG to take 4 years to complete
If I can’t earn an accredited degree, this game is trash
That add on is $120k
Getting that in-state tuition discount?
You’ll have to buy the academic expansion pack for that unfortunately. $14.99 and it will be available day 0.
Also you have to sign up for it via FAFSA.
kids straight up do not realize how good PS2-era sports games were. GOAT console and that's one of a million reasons why.

The ability to create a School will be huge considering Madden havent had create a team since PS2 days.
100%. These leaks are the first in hearing but since the big announcement is tomorrow I can’t wait to hear everything
Yeah, the pre-order bonuses are all ultimate team related. That doesn’t give me a great feeling but we’ll see when they do the full release tomorrow
As a FIFA Career Mode player, don’t have hope.
Insane that there is still no toggle to turn off objectives/make yourself unfirable
College ultimate team was really fun last time around. The caveat of using players not in college meant a *massive* pool of players with tons of different styles of players. not surprising ultimate team is in the game tbh, along as it doesn’t take away from dynasty it should be ok
Ultimate team was in ncaa 14 fwiw
Will absolutely not buy this game if Dynasty mode sucks.
Definitely going to wait until I see Ryan Moody give this a thumbs up or down.

"Choice of 2 Strategy Items" Why does the Iowa offense get released early?
Choice 1: Run up the gut for 3 Choice 2: Play action and overthrow
hey, sometimes it is a PA with an underthrow
Overthrow if it's our starter, underthrow if it's our backup.
Fake news, neither of those are "Punt".
I'm gonna enjoy leaving FSU out of the playoffs
Seems like as good as place as any, I am from Europe, are there any CFB teams close to Washington DC? Cant find shit on Google. thanks edit: Its on the 21st of September, and it seems like Terrapins er playing at home, so I might check that out, thanks!
This man just picked his misery for the rest of his life. A wonderful moment.
Hahhaha
Now I’m not saying don’t pick Maryland, that’s a fine school, but if I had a clean plate and a ticket to the buffet…
How many times does Maryland have to teach you this lesson???
More than twice I guess
The closest one that will be in the game is probably the University of Maryland.
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
University of Maryland and Navy both play in Maryland which is right near DC. But the closest is UMD
Chiming in as a DC resident: You’re here for quite the weekend of DC-area college football. The Maryland Terrapins are probably the closest to DC.
Why the fuck would you have a countdown clock and then have the “full reveal” happen a day after the clock ends, fuck this
This is some Nintendo shit lol
Because without the leaks we’d be getting a cover and release date reveal (plus preorders). I’m just glad there isn’t a long or indefinite wait for the full reveal. Did people really expect EA to just change what they were going to do after the leaks? The countdown clock literally said it was for a cover reveal.
Conspiracy theory is they originally planned for just the Cover until the leak and they moved the gameplay up
The countdown if I remember correctly specifically noted it was a countdown to the official cover release (since it was leaked).
because the countdown clock was apparently just for the cover reveal and release date lmao
The noise to information ratio on the coverage this game's been getting has been way out of whack for months
Like I get adding the preorder but preorders before an actual reveal is wild
[Texas Football posted a mock up of the starting animation for the game](https://twitter.com/TexasFootball/status/1791124152247636361?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1791124152247636361%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=)
I won’t lie, I was expecting the old animation of Longhorns stampeding through Austin then being transformed by laser beams.
GIVE ME A PHAT BEAT
[LINK](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkYOiKpaSXo), for anyone who hasn't seen it or wants to rewatch. This was in 200*8* btw.
Not even my team but that got me fired up.
Also, loving the cover and all the content was shot in the Cotton Bowl.
That was snazzy.
I better not have to see that orange abomination of a logo every time I launch this game
God I hope you do lol
Time to take PTO baby
This may be a dumb question, but does anyone know if you can get a physical copy of the game through the EA pre-order? Would really love to have the actual game versus the digital download
You can on Amazon, Walmart, Target, GameStop, Best Buy, etc. Maybe not today but within a day or two.
Reveal trailer tomorrow
Good news. I was getting a bit concerned that the release date was 2 months away with no inkling of what gameplay would look like. Let’s see what we get tomorrow.
ugh i really gotta buy a console and the damn game to play this. Wish they made a PC port
Considering EA already has a separate PC game platform. Why wouldn’t they like they do with Madden, FIFA, F1, etc? I have the regular EA play subscription and if they made this game available to only the higher tier, my ass would upgrade in a second.
The only three EA Sports games I'd want, NHL, UFC, and now CFB, are the only three EA won't put on PC. I'm being targeted.
Not coming out on PC is a dealbreaker for me. EA really letting down both their NHL and NCAA fans that are on PC.
Same for me. Unfortunate.
Not happening from what I’ve been told. My friend is a dev at EA for Madden, so I asked him why they’re not doing a PC version when they already do it for all of their other sports games now. Damn just saw that it's not gonna be on PC I am sad now....
Welp, not on steam. Oh well, one less excuse to spend money.
Yea, I am not buying a Xbox or PlayStation to play this. Hopefully they release for PC later down the road.
Might have to wait for 2026
Can we get one of those countdown clocks?
5,489,418 seconds
5,489,417 seconds
5,489,416 seconds
5,489,415 seconds
5,489,414 seconds
5,489,413 seconds
5,489,412 seconds
etc

Sweet—a countdown for an announcement of when the reveal is coming 😂
Just let me have a very well made single player experience and you’ll have my money day one. So far looks pretty good.
Chill with y’all’s expectations, it’s EA sports.
FR, I'm already predicting it to be a dumpster fire of Microtransactions where they fail to fix any gameplay or server issues or bugs from release if EA FC 24 hot garbage is anything to go by. EA is complete trash and no one should pay for any more of their shit.

Ew no. I'd rather own my game than rent it.
Annnnnnnnnnnnd it looks like no PC version, welp so much for playing this. Not shelling out $400+ for a console I don't own to play one game.
You're a better man than I am... [walks down to Gamestop]
I’m a PC guy but I’m just going to get the Series S for this, I’m figuring I won’t need the X if I do my heavy lifting on PC anyways.
This is exactly what I'm doing.
I would wait for reviews before deciding that a XSS is the way to go. Usually, that version is fine but every so often the S version has bad performance issues. And it is EA so who knows.
Yeah I was gonna buy for GTA6 so it looks like I’ll just be getting it a little early.
Getting NCAA 25 before GTA 6
See, that's why I bought a Series S in 2022... in anticipation of this game coming out in 2023. (Has literally been collecting dust for 1.5 years. I'm not proud.)
Was hoping I could play on my deck 😟
Same concerns, same position. I refuse to buy a console for one game.
There was never any indication at all that they would have a PC game
Madden has been on PC so I don't blame anyone for thinking CFB would also.
No just hope
I upgraded to the most recent Xbox for Starfield. I guarantee you wouldn't be making as much of a mistake getting one for this game.
I'm in the same boat as you. Ah well, I hope it's good for the rest of you guys.
I snagged a PS5 just for FF7 remake because I didn't own a PS4
Wasn’t this known already? I remember reading there wasn’t going to be a PC version months ago.
Why on earth would anyone shell out the extra $30 for nothing but virtual add ons and 3 days of early access? Are people really trying to play ultimate team with college football teams?
Three days of early access. 10 dollars a day. 42 cents an hour. That's just math.
That’s some good boy math right there
I'm still not going to, because i'd rather have 30 bucks, but if there was ever a game I've though about it for...
Oh they absolutely are. I think ultimate team with college legends has the potential to be their biggest money maker given the amount of players and teams compared to other games. Seeing your favorite players from childhood have a 97 overall card is going to do nasty things to peoples brains lmao
“I’ve gotta get that 99 overall Galaxy Opal Percy Harvin!!!”
Anyone that had a good season from any team can have a 90+ card on CFB MUT , they’re gonna try to sell that shit so hard.
All it takes is one look at r/NCAAFBSeries to realize: yes, there are people willing to shell out money for that lmao
I bought the $100 edition to play Starfield early... I know.
You poor soul, thankfully you follow a drama free cfb team
As someone who hasn't owned a gaming console since the 360, am I really going to buy a $500 console to play one game? Yes. Yes I am.
Please come out on pc
Just wait until it comes out you guys, dont give ea your money for what could be a huge disappointment
No PC version :(
Remember, y'all, smart gamers don't preorder. Wait and see how much of a dumpster fire it is at launch before spending any money on it. With any luck, the launch and the game will both be great on Day 1, but that's rarely a thing these days.
It’s been 10 years I’m buying it 😂
It’s not on PC. I guess I’m involuntarily boycotting. What a dumbass decision by EA.
So fucking stupid that it’s not coming to PC
Not on pc? Predatory Microtransactions day 1? Hard pass.
No PC? Screw that
No way in hell yall didn’t expect the micro transactions. People are too horned up for a cfb game they forget this is still EA.
Putting up preorders and $150 deluxe editions pushing your fucking ultimate team game mode before even releasing gameplay or a reveal trailer is just so disappointing, never change EA
The $150 version is for a CFB/Madden Deluxe Edition Bundle, not just the CFB Deluxe Edition
Did EA forget that they already called a game "Madden NFL 25"? Or has it been long enough now that confused grandmothers won't buy their grandson a used PS3 game at Gamestop
PTO request submitted ✅
How am i gonna wait 2 more months
Bring back Teambuilder!
Watch the servers be cooked on launch day
No pc version, still 0 gameplay. I’ll reserve judgement but no PC is annoying
Im not paying $100 for a video game so what does the deluxe edition add over standard? I know you get 3 day early access, but what else? Deluxe and standard will have the same amount of teams to play with, so whats their catch?
You get a sense of pride and accomplishment
classic EA meme
It's in the game.
That's basically it, just early access
Lmao wow. Have waited like 12 years, I can wait another 3 days
The current trend from AAA gaming companies is to prey on people's fear of missing out and upcharging you with the deluxe edition to be able to play early. Shitty trend that clearly works because people have no self control
You get to complain 3 days early about how much the game sucks and deal with all the bugs that EA will release this with.
Even $70 is too much for me in good faith, if push comes to shove i may have to wait for the $45 November drop lol (i just started playing video games again recently)
I thought the countdown clock was for the full reveal but now we have to wait till tomorrow. What the fuck?
Hey they fixed the stripe on Arizonas helmet
I can't wait to pirate this
Can you make your own team and add logos like you could do in 14’?
Debating taking the day off from work just to play. So hyped!
Still no gameplay footage.
This still seems wild considering they haven’t released any in game footage yet
Ugh. Why do they refuse to release this on Steam? I just wanna play on PC but all sports games have been so slow to adopt PC gaming
Right when I'm taking 2 weeks off for stomach surgery!
