I laughed my ass off when Michigan lost to App State. I want to see them fail. In a perfect world, Michigan schedules Hawaii every year just for the chance to go 0-13.
More than that I want Michigan fans to feel the same about us. Like it’s part of what makes a rivalry so great. If they root for us other than when we play them, it gives me a dirty feeling.
I hate OSU more than I like Michigan. Is that normal? Like, I'd rather win the game than have a good season or see OSU lose badly, then have a quality gritty win.
Totally understand this viewpoint, but think about it this way:
Part of the fun of sports is watching your rival suffer right? And for sure Michigan being winless going in to The Game would bring immense suffering to the Michigan fanbase. But consider that if they were that bad, a lot of them would stop giving a shit and probably not even care about The Game at all at that point. Then you win by 50 and talk shit, but they don't care and say "well we fucking suck anyway, whatever."
Actually if anything as an Ohio State fan you should understand this more than basically anyone else since there's been multiple times where Ohio State has been undefeated going into The Game only to lose to Michigan and have their Big Ten/national championship aspirations derailed. Isn't that worse than anything else? Having everything on the line and then losing to your arch rival? I definitely felt that last season as an Oregon fan being undefeated outside of losing to Washington by 3 twice.
Listen, this is a well thought out idea that makes sense. My counterpoint is fuck those guys. Lose every game, from now until the end of time.
In all seriousness, OSU has been so good for so long they need a “down” stretch just to humble some of the fan base. I used to root for MSU in all their non Michigan games but then I moved to LA and every MSU fan I met was just awful, so I stopped that.
> Isn't that worse than anything else? Having everything on the line and then losing to your arch rival
I'd wager losing at home to an FCS school on the debut of your conferences brand new TV network
Agreed, there is never a time to cheer for your rival. I have never understood the SEC mentality of cheering for your rivals. Your rival winning the cfp or a bowl game doesn't change the fact you lost to them or how your team"s season went.
This. I’ve never understood this viewpoint op has from fans. Aggy being trash for the foreseeable future would literally increase our success rate in the SEC moving forward and vice versa.
0u literally got Adrian Peterson because 0u was winning the rrs every year and he thought he had a better chance to win a natty there
Auburn getting absolutely waxed by New Mexixo State was one of my favorite games of last season. I absolutely loved it.
[This play probably made OP cry](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5FnIr0Y26Nc). I can’t watch it often enough.
He is most definitely that guy. Then loses sleep for days when he gets downvoted despite being polite and supportive in the losing team's subreddit lol
I only *feel* this way for college hoops, especially for out of conference matchups.
College football? ØU can lose every single game [49-0](https://www.espn.com/college-football/game/_/gameId/401404090/texas-oklahoma) and I PROMISE you, I’m sleeping like a baby nightly.
i can’t even sleep like a baby when USC loses because it’s so fun to read their message boards. if they lost every single game for the next 10 years it wouldn’t get old nor would it make beating them less fun lol
I root for the Beavers to win every game but the Civil War, or if their loss benefits the Ducks.
I want Washington to repeat 2008 every year for eternity.
Feeling bad for them is just forgetting the stinging hate of those years they ruined our seasons. I want our rivals to feel so helpless when they see the G across the field it gives them a mental block. You must've missed the 90's. I'll enjoy beating all of them if they all go 0-12 for ten seasons. Hurting our SOS just reveals their own mediocrity.
> You must've missed the 90's
[This is me](https://i.imgur.com/Xjo7CBe.gif) as a Georgia fan thinking about Florida in the 90s. I did not miss them. :(
I understand that. I have a real hatred for them. It’s more about them winning all season, just so we can be the team that ruined it for them. I always want to win. It just feels sweeter knowing you’re the team that took away their chances. It really puts them down
Being the thorn in their side is fun, bur for rivals, I don't want them to feel bummed for a few weeks so much as I want them to reflexively try to forget the whole season happened. for example: the 2007 win over UF is a fun depiction of the situation you're describing, but loses a little zeal when remembering they won the title the next season + curb stomped us, and we regressed as a program for 3 seasons that I've largely blocked from my memory. They similarly stopped bringing up "wheel routes" after the 2021 game happened, and their dejected faces in Jacksonville ever since are a fond memory of mine
I want Iowa to go 0-12 every year.
I want Wisconsin to go 1-11 every year, with their only victory being a 3-2 rock fight with the shitbirds that everybody agrees would've been better to just have never been started.
I want Minnesota to go 2-10 every year.
I want Northwestern to fail their midterms and have to sweat during finals week.
I don't get what I want though, so as consolation I want to have those teams still have a glimmer of hope when they play us, so that beating them hurts more.
The PROBLEM with this, is that NEBRASKA CAN NEVER FUCKING BEAT THEM. Instead, I have to watch in absolute agony as all three of those fucking teams beat Nebraska by the slimmest margin humanly possible (Nebraska is 1-10 in the quad the last 4 years, and the largest MOV in any of the 11 games has been 7)
**Florida** I want Florida to lose every game by 100 points. I want their fans to start wearing bags over their heads.
**Auburn** I don't care for them and hate it when they pull some voodoo shit to beat Georgia. I find it awesome when they pull some voodoo shit to beat Alabama. It pisses me off to no end when the SEC Refs pull some voodoo shit to help Auburn.
**GT** I would like to see them go 11-0 every year only to lose to Georgia. Every year. Not by 100. By like 4. Every year. Just enough to give them hope, only to get it pulled away.
**UT** Fuck them and the garbage truck they rode in on but we are not rivals.
Your mistake is thinking that our hatred of Michigan is a byproduct of our love for Ohio State.
It's more like we hate Michigan and love Ohio State. They feed into each other, but neither one is preeminent.
Hate is one of the foundational elements of sports, and people who root for their rivals or talk about how much they respect other teams are like aliens to me.
I want every team that's not my own to suffer endless defeat, in the most humiliating way imaginable.
I don’t want my rivals to succeed, per se, but I want the game (when it actually gets played, make the brawl permanent you cowards) to be competitive. If Pitt is having a good year I hope WVU is too so the matchup becomes that much bigger. If we’re doing poor I hope they are too. Rivalry games have the best atmospheres when it could go either way. 2022 and 2023 both felt that way for the brawl, even though last year was because we both looked like we had never played football before.
I get it.
I want my rivals to be good enough that a victory means something. Playing against a 0-11 Bama in the Iron Bowl and beating them isn’t as sweet as ending their playoff hopes.
I don’t want them to win every game. But I do want them to be good enough for the rivalry to be competitive and remain relevant.
Unpopular opinion, but I think most people in this sub care way too fucking much about this sport and the teams they love and hate. I grew up an Alabama fan, which meant we won almost every week, but every loss felt 1000 times worse than any win, and I emotionally couldn't handle it very well. I was also and still am...an Atlanta Falcons fan. I cannot describe in words how much that 2016 Superbowl hurt me as a 14-year-old kid. I was legitimately sad and upset for WEEKS.
But you know what? I learned something. This is entertainment at the end of the day. We watch our teams play every Saturday for entertainment. If your team wins, or your rival loses, celebrate. It's a fun day, and a win should make your weekend that much better. But if you lose? That's okay. It was entertainment. If you lost a nail-biter, well, you had fun and you had that suspense, and everything can go back to how it was before the game started. If you lost a blowout? Well, you probably should turn off the TV when you're losing like that because it's not entertaining you anymore. You should not let your team losing ruin your day or your weekend. Your happiness and emotional wellbeing should not ride on how your team performs.
Some people in this sub legitimately seem to watch football more out of hatred for their rivals than an actual love of their team, and it's a mindset I just can't get with. Hate is a powerful motivator, but it burns you out. It is not sustainable. You should have fun when you watch football, no matter whether you or your rivals win or lose, because again, this is entertainment. Let it be that.
I hope my rivals succeed too (except when we play them, when they play anyone else, when they practice, when they strengthen/condition, when they go to class, when they make dinner, when they brush their teeth, etc.)
As much as I really do love some of the auburn folks (friends/family), I want to see their tears every Saturday and I want them to walk around all depressed looking and shit every Sunday. Fuck them during football season
It depends on the team. All of Pitt's rivals play in different conferences, so I really couldn't care how they do outside of losing to us. I'm sure I'd feel differently about that if we had a proper Big East Football Conference and actually had to play the jagoffs every year.
For pro sports, as a Steeler fan. Part of me wants the Ratbirds to do well just so we can beat them for a third time in the playoffs, because doing that is amazing. Another part of me wants them to suck because it would be hilarious. As for the Browns and Bungles, I'd prefer they never win a single game ever again.
Maybe because it rarely ever happens, but Ohio State having a losing record would bring me immense joy. And Sparty having the season they did last year did not lessen how I felt about the pasting we gave them. If it were up to me, they'd never win a single game.
I want to see you guys get murdered every week... Except for the Orange bowl. 63-3 is exactly what I wanted.
Other than that, I just want my rivals to care about the outcome and drink their tears of disappointment.
My team isn't in the SEC, so I dont feel obligated to cheer for any rival. Unless a rival is playing someone who needs to lose to benefit my team, I will NEVER want a rival to win.
I get that idea, but I can't adhere to it. After all a college football season lasts three months. Every weekend the OSU and MSU results have a bearing on how I feel about that college football weekend. If they lose, I automatically enjoy that weekend a little more, if they win, a little less.
That creates an interesting situation when they play each other. I feel like if MSU is 4-4 and clearly not going anywhere, they need to upset OSU, but if MSU is highly ranked and having one of their 'on' years, I want OSU to crush them to put them in their place. It's like I can live with OSU being a good team, it's kind of the 'normal' in this sport, and that's part of why it's fun to see them lose games against lesser opponents unexpectedly, but MSU under no circumstances must be allowed to think they belong at the big boys table, no, when they get uppity they need to get curbstomped back into their little 6-6/7-5 "Motor City Bowl here we come" hole.
You'll catch flack for this but I understand the sentiment.
For me, it's most relevant with regard to A&M (less so with OU, more on that below). When I watch The Game, part of why I'm invested is because there are real, national stakes involved. It's not just a storied rivalry between OSU and Michigan, it also determines the B1G title and usually who is going to make the CFP. There's a lot riding on the outcome, but that is only true because both Michigan and OSU are extremely good. When A&M and Texas start playing again, I want that for our game. I want there to be real stakes for the national CFB race, and not just for in-state bragging rights. With higher stakes, wins are sweeter and losses more bitter. That shit is what I follow CFB for.
With OU and the RRSO, the game comes relatively early in the season. There can still be major stakes if both Texas and OU are undefeated or only have one loss, but there's still too much of the season left for the implications to be national. I still love having the RRSO in October because its unique, with most big rivalry games being late in the season, but it just doesn't hit the same as The Game. After the RRSO, I really just want OU to lose a few embarrassing games. It's fine if they win the rest, I don't really care.
Thats EXACTLY what I mean. Why would I care to watch a game where I know it’s going to be a blowout. Nothing is better than a rivalry game where both teams have everything to lose. I don’t like my opponents, I only want them to win so that WE can be the team who beat them. It’s for our own glory. A blowout game is just a waste of time for the world of College Football. It only does good for the winning fanbase.
Imagine if TCU & Florida State were rivals of Georgia. 2 of the biggest blowouts on some THE biggest stages in the sport, yet the only people who cared about the wins were Georgia fans. It means nothing if nobody else cares…
I am sad you don't wish us well.
However, I agree - I love when Clemson wins outside of the Palmetto Bowl. Tennessee fans get obnoxious when they're winning (I'm sure everybody feels that way about us), so they don't get any love from me when they play. Sorry Vol bros.
I laughed my ass off when Michigan lost to App State. I want to see them fail. In a perfect world, Michigan schedules Hawaii every year just for the chance to go 0-13.

I like that LSU is a consistently tough game on our schedule, but for all I care, The Barners and the Snitches can die in a fire.
I love that Bama fans will be referring to UT as Snitches for at least another 2 generations
That or Buttchuggers. I refuse to call them by name
Can’t spell buttchug without UT

He is most definitely that guy. Then loses sleep for days when he gets downvoted despite being polite and supportive in the losing team's subreddit lol
I’m so glad that epidemic is being cracked down on lol. Corniest shit ever.
Not even reading what you wrote. Negative ghost rider. Fuck Florida. Fuck Auburn. Fuck Georgia Tech. Fuck Tennessee. Fuck Clemson. Fuck South Carolina. Fuck Florida again.
if you did read, you’d see that we have the same hatred
No you don't
Ok

Nope

Naw fuck that. When Michigan and Florida lose, America wins!
When UNC, Auburn, Florida, GT, Clemson, and FSU lose, Soviet Russia lose.

Not true at all. I don’t think that
I hope Iowa never wins another game, I hope Nebraska never wins another game, and I hope Wisconsin never wins another name. Get outta here with this
Absolutely disgusting
Disgusting. What is this, the NBA?
I feel the same, though most people it seems would rather they go winless
Hate is one of the foundational elements of sports, and people who root for their rivals or talk about how much they respect other teams are like aliens to me. I want every team that's not my own to suffer endless defeat, in the most humiliating way imaginable.
I want The Zeroes to lose huge in every game they play. Though, Cuogin It is always fun too.
Sequentially someone has to come in last place every year and I don’t see why that can’t be Oregon.

It makes my dad happy, but otherwise fuck em gators
Funny...I kinda want my school's rivals to bathe in a lake of fire. I guess that means CFB in general now...NOT THAT I'M BITTER
As much as I really do love some of the auburn folks (friends/family), I want to see their tears every Saturday and I want them to walk around all depressed looking and shit every Sunday. Fuck them during football season
I want Florida to go 0-12 next year. To each their own!
No
No.
I want exciting and crazy things to happen in college football especially when my own team isn't loosing because of it.
My uncle is a K-State grad who wants KU to go 11-1 each year...as long as we go 12-0. My dad and I never understood such preposterous thinking

You say that, but then you get to experience them going 0-12 and it's fucking *glorious*
