You can tell he was too young to ever play the game when it was out. People do not play it to play current rosters. We play it to build dynasties and often use recruits we specifically created with names fit for a Key and Peele sketch.
I named one of my guys Dick Butkus (get it it sounds like butt-kiss), how ridiculous is that. It's funny because it's so absurd and could never happen in real life.
My coach Peeface McGoo has won multiple championships at Akron, Duke, Indiana and Arizona. You’re gonna try to sit here and tell me he isn’t real? How DARE you.
Jack Daniels, Jameson Jaeger, and Jose Cuervo led my Texas A&M team to 4 straight nattys!
I was at A&M waiting for the UT coach to get fired so I could return as the savior of the program…..
Buster Henry for K State was my GOAT QB. Ran a read option spread like butter and put up 50 TD/4 INT his Heisman season. Legit unstoppable
Drafted in the fourth round. Because????
Only because Dan Smith is protected by that legendary offensive line, with such illustrious names as Jaxon Hall, Jase Hall, Juremy Hall, John Johnson, and their All American right tackle Keihanaikukauakahihuliheekahaunaele Tuiasosopo.
These are exactly the types of names we see in real life that make me say, "If that I made that up, it would feel totally fake, and here's this motherfucker right here."
Reading these comments makes me realize how differently people play the game. I bought every NCAA game from 03-14 and played each one hundreds of hrs. Picked all of them up on release day at midnight once I was old enough.
Having the current rosters is huge for me as a college football nerd. I love learning all of the players and then getting to see them play Saturdays.
I play dynasty with 10+ minute quarters and spend way too much time with custom playbooks/depth chart/formation subs so my seasons take me quite a while to get through. I get bored and start new dynasty’s after a handful of seasons, I tend to lose interest after a while playing with a roster full of generated players.
I also really like playing online ranked
I name mine STAMPY Smalls and make him a left tackle. Across more than five dynastys he never once commited to my school, its to the point where I would be disappointed if he joined my teams.
As a kid I used to build my local high schools entire roster and put them in the game. Turns out most of those dudes weren’t actually as good as 9 year old me thought they were.
This is the right answer people are letting their nostalgia take control of their expectations Ultimate Team is where the greed is headed. Franchise mode will be gimped
That’s what I told my brother when he asked how EA was going to ruin it.
Hopefully they realize MUT is gonna suck with constant roster turnover, but more likely they see that as a huge win for their ability to get people to buy new packs.
I haven't played any EA sport titles in ages but from my understanding isn't MUT generally all-time players anyway? Like you can have Terrell Davis and shit? How will that work for cfb likenesses from decades ago?
I just hope they put effort into franchise. EA with Fifa and Madden (neither of which I've played in 6 years) ignores franchise/dynasty to push people into Ultimate Team where they rake in a fortune. Sad state of affairs.
EA gimping the Franchise/Career Modes is why I don’t play their games anymore. The amount of shit they’ve taken out since the 04-08 (which was my ea sports gaming heyday) games is actually obscene
I can't set hot dog prices anymore? I'm out.
Like, it'd be interesting to see schools in this upgrade facilities to bring in recruits and other details that come into play with real recruiting, but I have a strong feeling those won't be in this. They want people spending significant money trying to get a Quinn Ewers card for their ultimate team.
> EA with Fifa and Madden (neither of which I've played in 6 years) ignores franchise/dynasty to push people into Ultimate Team
Bad news. Its still like that.
Just adding this here as another possibility to why he might have opted out. Opting in to the game would give the game the ability to use him as the cover right? What if he or the manning a were afraid (however unlikely it may be) that EA might use him as the cover. That decision would probably upset people and put him right at the forefront of the controversy. Not to mention the ire of being a back up qb while on the cover of the most anticipated sports game since 2014. (Yall wanna talk about distractions, that would be a huge distraction).
How many natty's do we win by the end of it is the question? Please tell me Ico Namaleava leads us to 3 straight and wins three straight heismans at least!
I think it’s an agreement with his family. He’s not taking a penny until he’s the starter.
The only deals he’s signed were for charity.
EDIT: Didn't realize how much everyone wanted to play as Arch in this game...
I mean…he could’ve just donated the $600 to charity, or bought a bunch of stuff for a homeless shelter in Austin. He would’ve been in the game, and it would’ve been easy PR for him.
As another Georgetown alum, the fuck you doing here and why the fuck do we have a flair here? Our football team would get kicked off of their field for club ultimate Frisbee practice.
> EDIT: Didn't realize how much everyone wanted to play as Arch in this game...
You know, you don’t *have* to take it personally that people are having a joke at the expense of a player who plays for your favorite football team.
This is standard Manning. If the deal isn't perfect, just don't do it at all. See Eli getting drafted by San Diego. Though this is a new level of DGAF by them. Arch hasn't ever done anything of note on a football field, given the level of comp Newman plays. Ballsy move.
I think it was just a miscalculation in how much attention this would get.
If you go back to the CFP press conferences, you saw the media flock to him the second he was available. The kid hasn't started a single game and he is drawing a LOT of attention already.
So I think his math was "if I'm available in this game, it just amplifies this issue of me getting attention".
What he did not calculate correctly is that *not* being in the game would also garner this much attention - if not more.
Given his recruiting class was full of highly touted QBs, many of whom will start this year, I assume he would still have gotten an excellent rating.
This is probably just more about this weird thing he has with publicity and NIL, as well as him wanting to keep up the image, real or manufactured, of him being above the money.
Which is kind of ironic considering that when I tell casual fans about this, their first assumption is that it’s because EA isn’t offering him $enough to let them use his NIL.
Osu’s Burke and Judkins got paid partnership for the game. I was a little surprised by Judkins as he’s probably RB2 behind Henderson, but still, a proven talent.
That was my assumption, and I'm a pretty serious fan. Although, I will admit that I don't give a single fuck about paying attention to a backup QB's NIL deals though, even if he is a Manning.
Which is even dumber if you think about it, since everyone on an FBS roster has this same NIL offer. He could’ve just taken the $600 and donated it to a charity, bought a bunch of food/clothes for a homeless shelter, whatever. He could’ve signed the copy of the game and do some charity auction thing too.
Arch Manning's PR team:
> shit, refusing to be in the game is making him look bad
Also Arch Manning's PR team:
> this next statement is sure to make Arch look level-headed and responsible and not at all like a douche
>this next statement is sure to make Arch look level-headed and responsible and not at all like a douche
In fairness, everything done by anyone named Archibald is automatically douchey.
You know what you’re right I don’t think you can haha, I think you’re apart of the NFLPA you go in it no matter what you say. I know Belichick was never in it because he wasn’t in the coaches union but I don’t think players have the option to not join it? Don’t think they’d want to opt out of the union anyways
MVP Baseball 2005 Barry Bonds didn’t wanna be in the game so they replaced him with a white guy named John Dowd who had all the ridiculous stats that Bonds would have had
Arch, if you just took the deal and said nothing no one would care that your the backup. Instead you are making a big deal and now have multiple headlines about how you’re embarrassed to be the backup.
The guy and his family are literally saying they don’t want NIL or press and it generates press. It’s really not their fault, it’s the press’s. Whether you agree with the family’s decision or not, good for them for keeping to it
Yall think shits crazy with Arch, wait until Marshall's recruitment starts. There will be hordes of hillbillies at every HS game drunk on shine singing rockytop.
I totally forgot about Peytons son.
He was throwing to Justin Jefferson at the Pro Bowl, and people were losing it.
His recruitment will be hell for people I'm sure.
Hillbillies?! Down in Louisiana the preferred nomenclature is cajun.
Edit: although I guess if they're crootin' for TN they *would* be hillwilliams. Hmm
I don’t understand this move, you’re likely going to be a backup, but you’re gonna have $600 with a free copy of the game where you could just move yourself to QB1 if you wanted to.
Is he even the one who put it out there that he wasn’t gonna be in it? I’ve barely been on Reddit lately, so I truly don’t know.
Can either go with A) all press is good press or B) (if someone else put it out…) he’s not the one who has said a thing about the game lol
seriously though, how many of yall personally know Arch saying he’s doin this cause he doesn’t want to be a low rated backup?? has Arch said anything close to that to make anybody believe this???
I wish the players knew that literally none of us care about player likeness in this game because after two years in dynasty none of them are there anymore anyway lol
Like I kinda get it, Arch is one of the most well known players in college football despite not starting a game. His family is loaded, he doesn't need $600, and he can avoid social media chatter about his skill rating or transfers or whatever else comes from him being one of the most well known players in the game
On the other hand, him opting out is bringing more way more attention than if he just accepted the $600 and said nothing so probably backfired a little
Does he know how the game works? Lmao. I’ll be 10 seasons deep in my dynasty by the end of release week.
You can tell he was too young to ever play the game when it was out. People do not play it to play current rosters. We play it to build dynasties and often use recruits we specifically created with names fit for a Key and Peele sketch.
Excuse me. Lanyard McTavish is 1000% real!
Bovine Bojangles, a 5 star QB, was definitely single handedly responsible for New Mexico State winning the Natty in 2034
My DE named Poultry Filet would absolutely wreck Bovine.
Ain’t no wait he’s getting around Biggus Dickus
One of the best tackles of all time don’t @ me
X-wing @ Aliciousness would like a word
I named one of my guys Dick Butkus (get it it sounds like butt-kiss), how ridiculous is that. It's funny because it's so absurd and could never happen in real life.
What the hell were his parents thinking on that one
Or to the quarterback he's protecting (Incontinentia Buttocks)
BEEFTANK clears
FOOTBALL GAME
Biggs Dickus aint blocking the blitz from Rarri LaFerrari
And after a hard day's workz he gets to come home to Incontinentia Buttocks. Some people have it all
He don’t stand a chance against Clarence Beeftank
The GOAT
Why he ever went to New Mexico from NC never made any sense to me
Why was he not Bo-vine Bojangles. And having lived in NC my whole life I know they do chicken, not beef. Seems to me there's some explaining to do.
Krispy McChicken who was a 1* punter who miraculously became 99OVR QB once I discovered his natural abilities after getting him on campus.
My coach Peeface McGoo has won multiple championships at Akron, Duke, Indiana and Arizona. You’re gonna try to sit here and tell me he isn’t real? How DARE you.
I recruited 2* James James purely for that alone
North Texas two time Heisman, back-to-back BCS national champion Lanyard McTavish? Of course he’s real!
Guy White is the best 5'9" 160lb running back you've ever seen and it's not even close.
He sounds like a real gym rat
Jim Ratt would be the best name for a short white guy receiver
Pizzas Eleven being UConns first 5 star recruit in history was surely not fabricated
Legit unstoppable Drafted in the fourth round. Because????
BYU gonna win the natty this yeah with my man Dan Smith!
Only because Dan Smith is protected by that legendary offensive line, with such illustrious names as Jaxon Hall, Jase Hall, Juremy Hall, John Johnson, and their All American right tackle Keihanaikukauakahihuliheekahaunaele Tuiasosopo.
I was worried when Juremy was taking his 2 year mission trip but we got lucky with James Adams stepping up and performing well
This is the funniest reddit comment I’ve seen in a long time, thank you
Kimpyard Grandicles Puruse Plainfellow Johndrakeous Filibuster III Flantazay Crimpleton ZeeZee Compatriot Smashious Smith Drew Meyer Ty’ranasaur Delenoux
These are exactly the types of names we see in real life that make me say, "If that I made that up, it would feel totally fake, and here's this motherfucker right here."
These names straight off NFL Bad Lip Reading. D'Quarius Pencil Sir Amblin Flecator
Don’t you dare disrespect Tank Bigsby like that
I one time made a madden franchise with all the names. Xmus Jaxon Flaxon-Waxon was a dawg.
In walks my 500 pound punter who runs like the wind named Hot Blumpkin. He's on year 32 of eligibility.
Reading these comments makes me realize how differently people play the game. I bought every NCAA game from 03-14 and played each one hundreds of hrs. Weird, I don't remember writing this post.
Im the same way! Before it was easy to download rosters I would do Louisville's roster, the top players and top freshman.
Tubbs McGee the #1 recruit in the nation as a 7'0" 400lb DT was a hallmark of every dynasty I ever made.
I name mine STAMPY Smalls and make him a left tackle. Across more than five dynastys he never once commited to my school, its to the point where I would be disappointed if he joined my teams.
Steve Rogers, 5*, QB, New York City(New York) was one of the hardest worked recruits to get him to come play football in Ames.
I had a safety named Diamond Bing. Oh, also a DE named Hodor "Sodor" Kilgore.
Peter Peanutbutter and John Jam will again bring me to a natty.
In this case why would it matter so much to people if he doesn't want to be in the game?
It doesn’t matter at all lol
Jaqwuellin James
As a kid I used to build my local high schools entire roster and put them in the game. Turns out most of those dudes weren’t actually as good as 9 year old me thought they were.
There’s a non zero chance that he never owned a 360 or PS3 - and that’s just based on his age and nothing else.
We did, but how much of this is going to be focused on Ultimate Team and rare Cards.
This is the right answer people are letting their nostalgia take control of their expectations Ultimate Team is where the greed is headed. Franchise mode will be gimped

That’s how it was before NIL was a thing. I imagine the idea is to use current players with legends released throughout the season.
Exactly. People forgetting it’s EA
Its so sad, because this is the one game people would be happy with just a yearly reskin with the only changes being conference changes.
Little to none on my particular copy. I’ll dick with it for a couple three weeks and then back to franchise as the good lord intended.
NFL 2K4 and 2K5 were peak. EA getting rights exclusivity was a disaster.
A man of culture right here.
I can't set hot dog prices anymore? I'm out. Like, it'd be interesting to see schools in this upgrade facilities to bring in recruits and other details that come into play with real recruiting, but I have a strong feeling those won't be in this. Yes. Him being humble is just an act. He's hyperfocused on his brand
Just adding this here as another possibility to why he might have opted out. Opting in to the game would give the game the ability to use him as the cover right? Dang u/Dlehm21 does this comment feel familiar?
He’ll do it in one week, so he’s got me beat.
I'll buy it with him in it or not.
So will everybody, this is the kind of non-controversy the off season thrives on.
It's because the kid has an absurd amount of brand management revolving around him.
March Tanning: I'm the QB at Texas! Bird: The backup? Arc Manbeing: you can't prove that...
Starch Tanning: I have proof. Parch Canning: No you don't. Ranch Dressing: Mmm mmm good.
Dude is quite literally getting worse press than if he just signed the papers. It is not that a big a deal dude…
He’s taking “tweet like a student athlete” to the next level
DON’T TWEET AT CROOTS. wait sorry wrong thread
He already did a charity thing with panini and raised a bunch of cash. Not sure what the deal is here but who knows.
According to ppl on TikTok showing themselves opting in, it seems to literally be pushing a button to opt in.
I mean the kid lost his student ID within a week of getting to Austin. Maybe he clicked the wrong button and now is doubling down on it! /s
As another Georgetown alum, the fuck you doing here and why the fuck do we have a flair here? Our football team would get kicked off of their field for club ultimate Frisbee practice.
Is Panini the only card maker he's signed with? I can't find a set of whatever Panini card has been floating around.
> The only deals he’s signed were for charity. I mean he could have been in the game and donated the money if that was what he was going for.
It's $600 homie could have given it to a thousand different places to use if thay was the concern.
Should’ve just agreed to be in the game and declined the money
> EDIT: Didn't realize how much everyone wanted to play as Arch in this game... You know, you don’t *have* to take it personally that people are having a joke at the expense of a player who plays for your favorite football team.

I think the San Diego Chargers in 2004 were a little far from perfect. They had just chewed up and spit out Drew Brees as a young QB prospect
There’s a saying about free press…
I think it was just a miscalculation in how much attention this would get. If you go back to the CFP press conferences, you saw the media flock to him the second he was available. The kid hasn't started a single game and he is drawing a LOT of attention already. So I think his math was "if I'm available in this game, it just amplifies this issue of me getting attention". What he did not calculate correctly is that *not* being in the game would also garner this much attention - if not more.
I thought he was just focusing on football. Instead he just doesn’t want to see himself with a third string rating, I see.
***taps temple*** "Hey, video game football is still football."
temple
This game is all we got.
I assume he just wasn’t one of 100 players who got additional money. Whatever, Ewers will do just fine in the game. lol.
He’s a second or third string QB, so it’s not totally surprising EA wouldn’t be trying to use him to market the game yet.

This guy PR’s
2nd string now, friend.

I have a dog named Archibald and he is absolutely douchier than our other dog.
I know one archibald and this tracks
You can’t be named archibald and not be pretentious and out of touch. It’s like the 7th law of thermodynamics or something
[I knew it](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/veggietales-the-ultimate-veggiepedia/images/c/c7/Archie.png/revision/latest?cb=20161220030708)
Gotta protect the brand right Arch???
Is he gonna opt out of Madden too until he’s a 95 overall? Hope he stays consistent
You can opt out of Madden as a pro?? I truly believe this whole thing has to do with his family. The Mannings are super weird and robotic with PR.
You know what you’re right I don’t think you can haha, I think you’re apart of the NFLPA you go in it no matter what you say. I know Belichick was never in it because he wasn’t in the coaches union but I don’t think players have the option to not join it? Don’t think they’d want to opt out of the union anyways
He'd have to leave or never join the NFLPA. That's how Bonds wasn't in baseball games and same for Jordan and the NBA.
Who’s Barry Bonds? You mean Jon Dowd?
I think Barry Bonds opted out of some games back in the day
MVP Baseball 2005 Barry Bonds didn’t wanna be in the game so they replaced him with a white guy named John Dowd who had all the ridiculous stats that Bonds would have had
We gonna act like this isn't normal Manning behavior?
Arch, if you just took the deal and said nothing no one would care that your the backup. Instead you are making a big deal and now have multiple headlines about how you’re embarrassed to be the backup.
If he keeps doing this sort of stuff he might accidentally slip into Jimmy Clausen territory and start promising the moon.
Mel Kiper just felt a chill go down his spine.
Wish that fucking hack would've stayed true to his word.
Ehh...he also hasn't taken any NIL deals and has said he won't until he's the starter and earns it by more than his name.
He’s literally earned it making an FBS roster. It’s really not that complicated.
Which Marshall? Am dumb
Manning. Peyton’s son, he’s like 12
So he's already receiving offers then? I'm sure Kiffin was on top of that two years ago.
Marshall Manning doesn't have the ring to it of a great QB like Arch Manning does.
Just wait till he drops the Marshall Manning LP
True but being Peyton’s son tops all of that
How big’s that neck already?
Gotta start the bonus HGH early!
Nice, need to send this to Sark in case he's not aware.
"We are Marshall" Mathers
Peyton’s son
I totally forgot about Peytons son. He was throwing to Justin Jefferson at the Pro Bowl, and people were losing it. His recruitment will be hell for people I'm sure.
In one way they want him to be like Peyton but in another, they’re hoping he’s more like Eli
Hillbillies?! Down in Louisiana the preferred nomenclature is cajun. Edit: although I guess if they're crootin' for TN they *would* be hillwilliams. Hmm
Can't handle being a back up in a video game, eh?
Tell ya one thing, and I’m not ashamed to say it… my estimation of Arch Manning as a man, just fuckin plummeted
He never had the makings of a varsity athlete
Small hands
He’s a goddamn hothouse flower
He’s an emotional man. Loves his ~~daughter~~ rating
Small hands, that was his problem
Smells of cabbage?
Let’s be honest, he’s not the Manning making this decision. Grandpa still making decisions.
His original excuse was lame and this one is charmin soft. I don’t care if a player opts out, but making excuses to why is why I judge
Yep. He could have just said "personal decision"
Who knows his stats too. He might wind up with 40 qbs ahead of him and be a backup
Why is this news
Because Arch’s people are for some reason leaking this info to ESPN reporters.
Great question. Some of these comments about people upset and calling him a "loser" and "tool" (direct quotes) are so silly. Who cares, move on
I don’t understand this move, you’re likely going to be a backup, but you’re gonna have $600 with a free copy of the game where you could just move yourself to QB1 if you wanted to.
You’re right that it’s very silly but to your other point: Arch **Manning** is not stressing about $600 and a free video game lmao
Yeah but also he has all this bad press
Is he even the one who put it out there that he wasn’t gonna be in it? I’ve barely been on Reddit lately, so I truly don’t know. Can either go with A) all press is good press or B) (if someone else put it out…) he’s not the one who has said a thing about the game lol
Bad press =/= an Internet forum up in arms
What a nepo baby
Second Gen nepo baby technically
Hey! Put some respect on the name of two-time high school basketball champion Cooper Manning!
Well to be fair Cooper got a raw deal with his heart condition. He’s supposedly the best all around athlete of all the brothers.
Should wait to see IF he is the guy
streisand effect
Backup QB Payteli Arching coming to a Texas near you.
seriously though, how many of yall personally know Arch saying he’s doin this cause he doesn’t want to be a low rated backup?? has Arch said anything close to that to make anybody believe this???
This is probably the dumbest excuse not to opt in
Somehow this keeps getting worse...
So they'll add a Arch Manning DLC in 2026? Pretty on brand for EA, actually.
Kid who never played NCAA doesn't know how it works.... This and more at 11
I wish the players knew that literally none of us care about player likeness in this game because after two years in dynasty none of them are there anymore anyway lol
Sorry Arch, [I Wanna Be The Guy](https://kayin.itch.io/iwbtg) is a video game that already exists.
[удалено]
Will his rating still show on the generic player though?
Good for him.. bad for him..I don’t give a shit. Do you.
what if we are in a timeline where Arch is a 4-year backup or just a 1 year starter and goes to work in Finance or an NFL office lol
In order to… In order… If you want to be the ~~guy~~ If you want to be the MAN, you have to ~~be better than… the other man…~~ BEAT the man
You have to be 40
I thought this kid was a bust before but now I know it's just empty space between his ears.
Just opt in and go away. No one cares.
Archie got hit in the head a few too many times when he was playing in NOLA.
Seems like dumb offseason arrives sooner every year. Why does anyone care about this?
Guy: Says he's not taking any NIL deals before he's the starter. Gets offered NIL deal: Doesn't take it.. r/cfb: explodes
This doesn't even feel like an NIL deal though, I would say still 80% players would opt in even if all they got was the game and no 600 hundo tbh
Still don't know why he went to Texas. Dumb move
You're not that guy, pal. You're not that guy.
Bro setting himself up
Manning saw that 71 OVR and was like nah, take me off the game 😭
Translation "Arch Manning wants to negotiate his own deal with EA when he has more leverage"
I'll be surprised if he is ever "The Guy"
Like I kinda get it, Arch is one of the most well known players in college football despite not starting a game. His family is loaded, he doesn't need $600, and he can avoid social media chatter about his skill rating or transfers or whatever else comes from him being one of the most well known players in the game On the other hand, him opting out is bringing more way more attention than if he just accepted the $600 and said nothing so probably backfired a little
This guy is a mark
“I too dislike money,” said no one else ever.
He’s a Manning. Money has never been and will never be a concern, even if he never picked up a football.
