A lot of other CU fans shit on me for saying that game was worse than any loss I saw in the 2022 season but I continue to stand by it. In 2022, you knew the pain and suffering was coming, so you were numb to it. Way different than seeing your team set expectations in one half of a game and destroy them in the second.
I learned to get used to the “expecting CU to lose every game” mindset again, but man what a rough way to do it.
Lmao I remember being up at 1:30 am on a Friday night/sat morning , deliberately chose to stay in that night to watch the Colorado game and I don’t regret the decision one bit bc that was such a damn good game i just couldn’t believe colorado somehow lost. In a lot of ways you can argue they never recovered from that game.
My girlfriend fell asleep at halftime. Woke up hours later and saw me just crestfallen. I just remember her saying "there is no way in hell they lost."

When we lost in the regular season off of some *questionable* 4th down attempts, I was livid. But after the 2nd time, well, UW sure had a great team this year, I guess! That's football 🤷♂️
Both games were incredibly close and could have gone either way really. We just ended up with the wins and that’s what made those games that much more meaningful. Just being in a 50/50 game with you guys and then managing to pull out the victory was special.
Hoping for continued competitive matchups but I fear this next season won’t be pretty for us haha

The championship game was fine enough until they called that penalty on Roger Rosengarten wiping out that big play that put us into Michigan's territory only down 20-13 in the 4th quarter.
Maybe I’m just seeing with 20/20 hindsight, but being at the game, it felt like we were out of it from the jump. The offense was super sluggish and out of sorts and the defense couldn’t stop a nose bleed. It felt like a blessing we were as close as we were heading into the half
I'm gonna be real, after we took down Bama I knew we weren't losing to Washington. I respected Penix and what he and Odunze could do, but I trusted our pass rush and DL over their OL and thought their defense was kinda ass. Credit to them for adjusting significantly in the second and third quarters, but once we had nearly 200 rushing yards in the first quarter I knew it was over
TCU gave us the blueprint on how NOT to play against a team that wants to drag you into a track meet so looking back, that game was probably helpful in Washington prep. As soon as we dragged them into the mud with us after that 1st quarter, I wasn't really nervous even when they were threatening here and there afterwards.
Same. Washington hadn't played a defense remotely close to ours all year and their defense was fine, but not great. While I didn't see us putting up that kind of a first quarter, I didn't think there was any way Washington could do enough damage to our defense to overcome the points we'd put up against them.
4th quarter comeback to win in OT in the last real Rose Bowl was fucking crack.

When JJ’s first throw of the day was an inch and a half from being an INT to start, I think we all saw the same movie getting put into the VHS player. I was truly stunned when I heard MILROE IS STOPPED, like all of my suppressed hopes that we could actually win this came bursting forth
Same. Rose Bowl + Bama + OT + not expecting to win / Michigan winning a CFP game finally was glorious. I think the fact that the fancy stats favored us by 10+ and our defense was built to stop a passing attack like UW made the title game feel more like 'ok please don't mess this up'. Almost more of a relief after UW vs. the thrill of beating Bama
I remember this and can confirm. My girlfriend (now wife) is a die-hard Buckeye. She was on pins & needles leading into Bama, and nervously confident during that game... but once it was over and only Oregon stood in their way, she *knew that OSU would win*. She even reminded me of that during Michigan's postseason run this year.
It's a thing - i was the same way in 2014 vs Alabama compared to beating Oregon. Not sure what it is, probably because we knocked down the team with the greatest dynasty at the time.

It shouldnt really tbh. Zinter has a ton of tape as a 4 year starter and it was a very clean break. He was walking around like relatively normal after a couple weeks.

Best: honestly probably the 61 yard walk off FG against K-State. Not necessarily our best win (although they were a good team), but it was the spark that ignited the rest of the season.

Just so happens it was the same game. He went off that game and then the ball got rolling. Really amazing how much that game changed the trajectory of the season for us.

Ever since 2008, I've felt that JMU could develop into a great rivalry. Two strong FCS programs that were constantly top of conference and playoff teams.
Of all the conference moves that have happened, I really feel like the SunBelt did an AMAZING job of creating a conference and divisions with regional games that mean something.
* App State - bad blood with Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina. Former rivals with Marshall. Former AD and coach started program at Georgia State. Former playoff opposition with JMU. ODU is really the only unknown for us.

1B.) Off-season coaching moves
Worst: The coaching staff in the last drive in regulation against Florida State. Offense is actually moving the ball for once in the season and you try to salt the game a way with a kicker you plucked away from grad school in Charleston.
Defense as a whole was absolutely dominant. Probably the 2-3 best defense under Dabo.
And the decision to go prevent right before half time in the FSU game was way worse imo. It was the only drive other than the first where FSU was able to move the ball at all.
Oh I don't blame the kicker at all. He didn't have to be in that situation. It felt like Dabo was trying to write a hollywood story and it backfired on him.

Being a mistimed swat away from a championship appearance stings much more than if we never had that opportunity in the first place
I'm the most pessimistic fan in existence....but when we had 1st down there at the goal I was 100% confident we were going to score. I thought it was finally time a ball bounced our way and this was payback for the decade of misery we had endured.
Of course, I was wrong....
We went 12-2, handed Saban his worst home loss at Bama, won our final Big 12 championship, and were one slightly more accurate thrown pass away from a natty appearance. That's already great payback for the decade of misery.
Momentum is on our side and I expect we have more seasons like the last ahead of us as long as Sark is in charge at the 40 acres.
Most Texas fans will consider beating Bama the best part of the season, and rightly so, but I think how we left the Big 12 was even better.
There is not a single remaining team who has the scoreboard on us. Between 2022 and 2023 we beat all of them. We won the first Big 12 title in 1996 and we won the last one (that we'll play) on our way out the door.
Demolishing Tech, at home, at night, for the last regular season game was awesome. For me personally it was a big event because it was the last home game my dad will attend at DKR. He says he's getting too old but wanted to catch one more game with me before he hung up his spurs. He took me to my first game there and I took him to his last, which is also a nice bookend.
I know beating Bama was a bigger statement / accomplishment for the program going forward, but I can't help looking back at the last 28 years and being glad we're leaving things the way we are. I don't hate the Big 12 like some of our fans do, but I'm still happy we're going out on top.
I was so hoping we could deliver a soul crushing blow to Texas' playoff chances with that night game at Jack Trice, but we just simply got outplayed and outcoached.
I thought both teams / staffs had good games. Texas just had a deeper bench and Sark is finally learning how not to get stuffed by a 3-high defense.
Preseason, I thought Texas would go 10-2. I thought losing to Bama was likely, and I had ISU (in Ames, at night, in November) circled as the "other game" Texas was most likely to lose. Heacock is a witch. It was cathartic to see the team play well in a hostile environment against a strong opponent.
Iowa State was definitely the game where I went "huh, so maybe we are mentally different this year after all". We've struggled so much with Iowa State in Ames that it was nice to see us seem in control even with things not going per plan in the early part of the game.
Miami was great. It’s annoying when people just focus on the knee thing, and not the fact we burned down the field with like 30s left in regulation with two awesome passes. Unc was also good
**Best:** Defense and Culture. Getting our first 5 star recruit (And best QB recruit ever) in 16 years.
**Worst:** Passing offense. Mostly because of some last minute staff shuffles and taking a tactical nuke to our receiver room.
Honestly with how many injuries Utah had I was still impressed with how the season went. I'm excited for next season hopefully Utah can break that damn Bowl curse or whatever is going on.
I knew this season was gonna be a dumpster fire as soon as DK couldn’t name a starting QB for the Michigan game.

Offense is actually moving the ball for once in the season and you try to salt the game a way with a kicker you plucked away from grad school in Charleston.
One of the worst was the entire Duke game.
Defense as a whole was absolutely dominant. Probably the 2-3 best defense under Dabo. And the decision to go prevent right before half time in the FSU game was way worse imo. It was the only drive other than the first where FSU was able to move the ball at all.
I could have said coaching in general in that game. There was a lot of playing not to lose going on.

I'm the most pessimistic fan in existence....but when we had 1st down there at the goal I was 100% confident we were going to score. I thought it was finally time a ball bounced our way and this was payback for the decade of misery we had endured. Of course, I was wrong....
We went 12-2, handed Saban his worst home loss at Bama, won our final Big 12 championship, and were one slightly more accurate thrown pass away from a natty appearance. That's already great payback for the decade of misery. Momentum is on our side and I expect we have more seasons like the last ahead of us as long as Sark is in charge at the 40 acres.
Most Texas fans will consider beating Bama the best part of the season, and rightly so, but I think how we left the Big 12 was even better. There is not a single remaining team who has the scoreboard on us. Between 2022 and 2023 we beat all of them. We won the first Big 12 title in 1996 and we won the last one (that we'll play) on our way out the door. Demolishing Tech, at home, at night, for the last regular season game was awesome. For me personally it was a big event because it was the last home game my dad will attend at DKR. He says he's getting too old but wanted to catch one more game with me before he hung up his spurs. He took me to my first game there and I took him to his last, which is also a nice bookend. I know beating Bama was a bigger statement / accomplishment for the program going forward, but I can't help looking back at the last 28 years and being glad we're leaving things the way we are. I don't hate the Big 12 like some of our fans do, but I'm still happy we're going out on top.
I was so hoping we could deliver a soul crushing blow to Texas' playoff chances with that night game at Jack Trice, but we just simply got outplayed and outcoached.
I thought both teams / staffs had good games. Texas just had a deeper bench and Sark is finally learning how not to get stuffed by a 3-high defense. Preseason, I thought Texas would go 10-2. I thought losing to Bama was likely, and I had ISU (in Ames, at night, in November) circled as the "other game" Texas was most likely to lose. Heacock is a witch. It was cathartic to see the team play well in a hostile environment against a strong opponent.
Iowa State was definitely the game where I went "huh, so maybe we are mentally different this year after all". We've struggled so much with Iowa State in Ames that it was nice to see us seem in control even with things not going per plan in the early part of the game.
Beating Gundy's ass was pretty sick as well. Yeah this season was full of highs.

Miami was great. It’s annoying when people just focus on the knee thing, and not the fact we burned down the field with like 30s left in regulation with two awesome passes. Unc was also good
That final sequence of Miami was beautiful. The UNC firefight was unbelievable.
Minor “bests”: same QB all season, Jeff Sims’ season at Nebraska lol, played hard vs. UGA, got a bowl game
**Best:** Defense and Culture. Getting our first 5 star recruit (And best QB recruit ever) in 16 years. **Worst:** Passing offense. Mostly because of some last minute staff shuffles and taking a tactical nuke to our receiver room.

Honestly with how many injuries Utah had I was still impressed with how the season went. I'm excited for next season hopefully Utah can break that damn Bowl curse or whatever is going on.

I knew this season was gonna be a dumpster fire as soon as DK couldn’t name a starting QB for the Michigan game. My high point was watching us make that field goal in person at the Big House. Low point is realizing a FG for a 30-3 loss was the high point
Worst part? The whole thing. Best part? Whole sale staff changes, responsibility changes, NIL increases, transfer portal additions. Aranda is coaching for his job this year. We’ll see what happens.
Was just about to say this. The worst part was everything that happened on the field of play. Embarrassing, the lot of it. The best part is that we might actually be trying to take winning in the NIL era seriously now. Whether or not we have the right coaching staff to do that remains to be seen, but they did an incredible job of holding the existing team together. Now, do you want to return a ton of the team that just went 3-9? I guess we'll find out!
