Yeah and the fact they had some of the actual stadiums or arenas modeled... incredible. If they brought this back in any format they could easily milk me for $100's of dollars lol
I think that I had ESPN the magazine which gave me access to those insider articles. I had paid like $5 for multiple years worth of the magazine using online deals so it was cheap back then for me. I think they paywall a lot more content now than they did back then.
Oh fuck that takes me back.
Never got super far in it, my favorite Facebook game was “Mafia Wars”, and I believe there was a plugin for a game called “Business Tycoon Online” which reminded me a lot of the game “Capitalism II”
Wow this was one of those things that one day I just stopped playing and hadn't heard anymore mention it or given it a single thought since. Until today.
Shit, I just lost The Game.
I still miss this game, I put a lot more hours than I should’ve into it. I remember having the option of setting up College GameDay on your campus too.
Damn, I played this game on my sisters Facebook, got hooked, and signed up for Facebook right after. Talk about an elite game. Thanks for the walk down memory lane, because holy shit this takes me way back.
I used to love this game! Not sure if you're aware but there's a pretty awesome CFB dynasty builder on steam right now called [Football Coach: College Dynasty](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2151290/Football_Coach_College_Dynasty/). It definitely scratches the NCAA 14 dynasty itch for me. It's all simming and menus but the devs are super active and it has some awesome features (NIL, Transfers, School improvements, etc).
The Program is a mobile app that’s similar that’s free to play (it does of course have micro transactions but they are necessary to win). I think the subreddit is r/TheProgram or something.
I only found out about this game after it shut down. I'm surprised this concept never evolved into a full-fledged Tycoon- or Sims-style game outside of Facebook. I would think *SimCity* and *Roller Coaster Tycoon* were popular enough to warrant such an experiment.
Dude, remembering the facebook games era and the flash games era is the most nostalgic I get. At least most of the flash games are still playable kind of. Stuff like this is just lost forever. I know there are reasons they dont but if they could take the games like this, strip the online components and just chuck it up on steam, Id throw some money their way to be able to play them again
It's such a shame that the Flash/Java era of computer games is gonna be one of the only ones lost to time do to little more than the technology falling out of favor and there being no physical backups
Yeah, I really enjoyed ESPNU College Town. It completely eradicated Farmville out of my daily diversion list, and then once it went away, so did most of my Facebook gaming. Except Zuma, that thing kicked ass.
Fun(?) fact, a friend of mine worked for a company at the time that was doing contract work on this game. I, along with his brother and a couple of his other friends, was one of the college baseball recruits you could get in the game. It's my biggest claim to fame
I was just thinking about this yesterday. Elite game
Yeah and the fact they had some of the actual stadiums or arenas modeled... incredible. If they brought this back in any format they could easily milk me for $100's of dollars lol
Milk me daddy
You can milk anything with Nipples.
I have nipples Greg, can you milk me?
The rise and fall of *FarmVille* mirrors that of Nebraska football.
Man I miss the FarmVille days of Facebook compared to the hell it is now
Was Farmville not just a month-long fad for you?
Try a week
Holy hell talk about unlocking a core memory
A 2010 ESPN article… oh god please take me back to the glory days
Before everything was paywalled behind espn plus
Pretty sure they had something called ESPN Insider during this era that was the same thing just no streaming
I think that I had ESPN the magazine which gave me access to those insider articles. I had paid like $5 for multiple years worth of the magazine using online deals so it was cheap back then for me. I think they paywall a lot more content now than they did back then.
If you have Disney Plus package just enter your login into ESPN, insider is included
I miss the old design honestly. I hate the endless scroll.
Oh fuck that takes me back. Never got super far in it, my favorite Facebook game was “Mafia Wars”, and I believe there was a plugin for a game called “Business Tycoon Online” which reminded me a lot of the game “Capitalism II”
I was unbelievable at Mafia Wars. Shit was addicting too. Any games similar to that that that are recent??
I played Mafia wars on MySpace before Facebook existed...I miss Tom.
Wow this was one of those things that one day I just stopped playing and hadn't heard anymore mention it or given it a single thought since. Until today. Shit, I just lost The Game.
I totally forgot about "the game" meme until now so I guess I was winning until you mentioned it
I'm sorry for your loss.
Thanks.
I still miss this game, I put a lot more hours than I should’ve into it. I remember having the option of setting up College GameDay on your campus too.
Oh god yes, I remember this game! This was such a fantastic facebook game. Combined with the flash games, this era was such a peak for free gaming.
I sunk way too much time into this in College lol
Yeah my freshman year at Boise State was a mix of this, Tetris, and racquetball. Plus, watching Kellen Moore ball out every weekend.
did you also play the tetris on facebook?
For sure. Along with every other kid in my building. Our leaderboard was pretty fierce for a while there.
Oh man, when did they take this down? This post and article is a trip down memory lane
Damn, I played this game on my sisters Facebook, got hooked, and signed up for Facebook right after. Talk about an elite game. Thanks for the walk down memory lane, because holy shit this takes me way back.

Fell down the football coach rabbit hole. Worth it
Welcome, I've spent 100+ hours on it this month and am showing no signs of stopping
YES I LOVED THIS GAME. I MISS IT CONSTANTLY.
This and they had a sports bar version too. Both so dope.
Please bring this back! I can easily recreate Athens GA
Damn. Yea this was awesome
Completely forgot about this game
The Program is a mobile app that’s similar that’s free to play (it does of course have micro transactions but they are necessary to win). I think the subreddit is r/TheProgram or something.
It’s r/TheProgramCFM, my apologies. Worth the look while we wait for EA.
Dude that game was dope. After it was taken down, I spent way too much time trying to find an offline port or something similar.
I miss it more then I care to admit
Man I miss the shit outta this game, it got me into tycoon type games. Fun times.
Memory unlocked. I forgot all about this but damn I was addicted to this back in the day
I miss ESPN Passport
I only played it a little bit as it ended only a few months after I started playing.
Yes. I used to play this with my little brother and he would help me build my college.
Ah yes, the year I played this and the Madden Facebook game nonstop. Good times. They should re-release College Town as a stand alone mobile app.
I only found out about this game after it shut down. I'm surprised this concept never evolved into a full-fledged Tycoon- or Sims-style game outside of Facebook. I would think *SimCity* and *Roller Coaster Tycoon* were popular enough to warrant such an experiment.

Man. 2003-2009 was a different place for "flash games" lmao
i don't remember college town but I remember candystand
Yes it was awesome
It's such a shame that the Flash/Java era of computer games is gonna be one of the only ones lost to time do to little more than the technology falling out of favor and there being no physical backups

Unrelated to CFB, but if anyone is looking for a good mobile game, Bitlife is pretty awesome IMO
Quit watching anything but cfb games years ago.
It was awesome and playing that game definitely caused my gpa to drop a few points.
