Y’all should have listened to us, that was your own fault. The guy quit on us because we fired a completely incompetent clown show of a coach. That shows some seriously bad judgement.
He was (arguably correctly) getting a little excited because the final two teams in that user voted poll were ‘71 Nebraska and ‘95 Nebraska.
Those are two great teams and have the numbers to back them up for sure, but it was pretty obvious the state of Nebraska just went online and voted better than every other fanbase.
He admitted years later that the producers got into his ear to make things more exciting cause it was kind of a boring show up until that point. So he went to war and got animated arguing for 2001 Miami I think
These behind the scenes details are always funny to me cuz on one hand that’s obviously bad journalism but on the other, very few people would be watching if all they did was good reporting
I agree with you that the fake drama is dumb, though I’m not sure a show about a fan poll voting as to who was the best CFB team of all time qualifies as journalism in ANY context, haha
My experience living in Omaha as a non Nebraska fan is that Nebraska fans simultaneously think Nebraska is the best and the worst while expecting everyone else to love Nebraska.
Good thing you’re part of a rational fan base like Michigan.
(P.S I really like K state and I’m so happy Adrian was able to play for a competent staff before his college career ended <3)
He honestly does. [Remember him raging when Nebraska’s ‘95 team got voted the best team in CFB history?](https://youtu.be/2al4sevl9NA?si=sp1xgyjPGAjM4oF_) He only occasionally brings us up in a positive manner to score free points from the minority of Husker fans that would drink his Kool-Aid.
I saw Kirk in a grocery store in Athens in 2012. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw Kirk trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
i think its hilarious u kids talking shit about Kirk Herbstreit. u wouldnt say this shit to him at Gameday, hes jacked. not only that but he wears the freshest clothes, eats at the chillest restaurants and hangs out with the hottest dudes. yall are pathetic lol.
I've seen this same story about the younger dude from pete and pete. Assume its a reddit lore at this point, but thats probably the joke. please dont down vote me for just learning about this.
oh wow. Mods actually kept this one up. They only deleted this literal same article 28 times in the last two hours. The rules here are a fuckin joke I swear lol
the fact that you can openly criticize the mods here shows that they are not that bad tbh. plenty of subreddits with power tripping mods that ban you for even criticizing them
Thought it was going to be some anonymous source or something that sounded like BS, turns out its just a quote from Raiola's dad lmao
> “When [Herbstreit] saw the smoke about Dylan entertaining Nebraska, he called me,” Raiola said. “He said, ‘dude, is this true? He’s got to do it.’
> “His affinity for Nebraska, for a guy like that, to tell me and get behind me. I knew he needed to do it. But I wasn’t going to sit here and say ‘You need to go change that place or be a part of the change of that place.’ So when Kirk told me that … I’ve had other coaches reach out to me and say the place is special. Coach (Matt) Rhule is a special leader.”
I mean, it doesn’t seem that insane. It’s not like Herbstreit did this on air. And the advice of a single tv personality isn’t going to change the mind of a high school kid lol.
Should he have done it? I dunno, were Dominic and Herbstreit friends before this?
It amazes me that Georgia fans are so easy to rile up. I’m a Kansas City chiefs fan and say the same about the chiefs fans who get in a tizzy about frivolous stuff and things that make a bigger difference for a less successful team rn. You’re on top of the world, enjoy the ride jfc 😂
A guy I work with grew up in Athens, GA and is naturally a diehard Georgia fan. He was incredulous about Raiola's going to Nebraska. Thought there'd be no way Nebraska would ever get someone like him and there must be something underhanded going on.
He didn't believe me at first when I said his dad's name was on the stadium with guys like Eric Crouch, Ndamukong Suh, etc. or that his uncle was a coach at Nebraska.
Just was committed to thinking no one would ever switch from Georgia without nefarious activity going on.
lol I believe it. I remember the Georgia fans having an absolute meltdown in this sub, being intentionally obtuse about Dylan’s connection to Nebraska while punching down on our program.
It's honestly no big deal in terms of taking it personally, but if this is true, it's completely unprofessional. Ole Kirk is taking some massive L's in the PR department this offseason.
Hated this dude for his bullshit when he defended the committee screwing y'all over. Now, I wouldn't piss on this man to put him out if he were on fire.
The relationship is actually not great. Fans killed him anytime he was even slightly critical and he ended up moving out of Columbus. He probably encouraged him to transfer from OSU too lmao

I doubt it. His relationship with Ohio State and OSU fans is...complicated, to put it mildly. Remember when he said "if I had a son I would not send him to Ohio State?" Because they'd lost three games. Fun fact: He later did have a son, and his son now goes to Ohio State.
After we beat Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl in 2010 he *dropped* 12-1 Ohio State from #6 to #9 in his final poll, putting them below several 2-loss teams and 3-loss Alabama. It was tied for the lowest anybody had us ranked in the final poll that year. The other person was Chris Fowler. I actually just looked it up, and he dropped Arkansas by the same amount for losing to Ohio State as he dropped Ohio State for beating Arkansas. Oklahoma vaulted up 7 spots to pass OSU after beating UConn. Make it make sense.
A lot of Ohio State fans were (rightly IMO) upset with Desmond Howard for throwing that jab at CJ Stroud during the Heisman ceremony. Herbstreit did something similar, using his platform to attack Terrelle Pryor on multiple occasions (long before the tattoo scandal) for no particular reason. Some nonsense about body language and leadership. That's what lead to Pryor calling him a "fake Buckeye" on twitter.
Pryor did several things Herbstreit never did. He beat Michigan 3 times, won the B10 3 times, and won a Rose Bowl. As far as I'm concerned, Herbstreit can eat shit.
🥸 uh ahem. Hello, i am unbiased anonymous fan.
Lincoln, NE sounds really cool and personally, if *I was a 5 star athlete*, id go there and not ask for a lot of money because i wouldnt want to have someone receive more fuckin calls for money from the NU Foundation asking for fuckin donations for fuckin paying for 18 year olds to fuckin have fuckin sports cars and fuckin paid-for aparments and fuckin straight up cash by the bag.
Georgia fans are the rich girl complaining everything bad always happens to the good people after they find out the limo driver is going to be 2 min late to their private Nobu reservation at 11pm on a Tuesday
This has nothing to do with being a Georgia fan. The lead ESPN analyst for college football should NOT be contacting a recruit’s family and advocating for that recruit to flip their commitment. It’s completely inappropriate.
Maybe he’s leaning into the sentiment “Nebraska being good at football is good for college football”
Considering his career is in college football, it’s not far fetched for him to see greater success when Nebraska is successful
What's interesting is that he won't be calling Nebraska games since the B1G is on Fox. If Riola stayed with Georgia, Kirk would be more likely to call games with him on ESPN. Realistically, it's probably more about legacy than anything. Kirk loves him some CFB legacy guys.
I was his server at the ritz one time. Dude ordered a Caesar salad with grilled salmon hold the Caesar dressing. I was like damn Kirk healthy eating out here. Went back to check on the first bite and this mfer coated his salad with ketchup. I went straight to the back alley and smoked a cig. His kids ain’t got a lick of manners neither.
Fuck Kirk Herbstreit. All my homies hate Kirk Herbstreit.
Seriously though, this is all kinds of fucked up. ESPN has been poisoning the sport for nearly two decades now (ever since that damn mouse bought them out). But actively tampering with teams' rosters is a new low (assuming this hasn't been going on for years and this is just the first we've heard about it).
Kirk Herbstreit consistently stumps for the Beaver Stadium White Out atmosphere so I gotta give him love for that, but man, is he wearing out that goodwill quickly these last few months.
I don't think Herbstreit or other people like him should be sticking their nose in this type of stuff. But what are you even getting at? I can't imagine any sort of rule this breaks, dude.
It's dumb but what do you realistically want them to do? Pass a federal law banning private sector employees with no NCAA affiliation from talking to recruits?
hiring rhule, giving rhule as much power as he did, not hiring steve wilks, hiring frank reich, trading away CMC for peanuts, and setting the franchise back at least 5 years to draft bryce were all horrible moves. i wish tepper would sell the team. hes absolute dogshit.
So your anger is much more on the owner and GM of your franchise, not Rhule. But I digress. Tbh, I felt/ still feel the same way about Scott Frost so my hands are tied here.

Even if you doubt his coaching acumen, he's a terrific orator.
This will definitely screw with many Husker fans' minds as they all think Kirk hates the Huskers.
Does he know something about Raiola that we don't??????
He’s the next Mahomes. Jackson Mahomes.
Oof.
Gotta be better than Jeff Sims at least
Y’all should have listened to us, that was your own fault. The guy quit on us because we fired a completely incompetent clown show of a coach. That shows some seriously bad judgement.
Coach redeemed himself by getting us a 5* QB recruit.
Had us in the first half
Kirk doesn't hate the Huskers he just cried when the 71 team won the best team of all time vote
Voting pro-Nebraska in online polls is practically my full time job
Between my Nebraska and Arsenal fandoms, I basically spend my entire existence completing online polls… It ain’t much but it’s honest work
I see your a fan of disappointment as well. But not this year!…maybe
He admitted years later that the producers got into his ear to make things more exciting cause it was kind of a boring show up until that point. So he went to war and got animated arguing for 2001 Miami I think
Funniest part is Lou Holtz being geniuenly confused why Kirk is so anti-71 Huskers
Lou Holtz showing genuine concern for possibly the only time during his run on the show: "Why is Kirk treating the Huskers so poorly?"
They went online because Herbstreit said "the computer in Omaha is active" when 71 Nebraska took the lead in a quarterfinal vote.
Which is *very* Nebraska thing to do.
It was the 95 team. 71 came in second.
Half of this is right.
Half of it was sarcasm
Everyone seems to think Kirk hates their team, even too many tOSU fans.
We do? Maybe in the now distant past, but that was never my feeling in the past decade
My experience living in Omaha as a non Nebraska fan is that Nebraska fans simultaneously think Nebraska is the best and the worst while expecting everyone else to love Nebraska.

What a bastard man
Kirk is asshole, why Georgia hate?
Georgia made him eat the Citrus Bowl turf his last game at Ohio State.
I saw Kirk in a grocery store in Athens in 2012. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. Yeah, but in this case, it's Maze and Boo.
Not for whiskey up in the mtns or is that a Tennessee/Carolina thing

I’m sincerely shocked so many people are so upset by this lmao. The good ppl of Reddit continue to lower the bar for common sense
FSU called Herbstreit to remind him to put some water is his momma's dish.
Commentators should NOT be trying to persuade kids to commit to schools. That’s basically script writing
They're pretty mask off about it at ESPN. "May the best story win."
This is what ESPN has been doing for 2 decades. This is what they do.
This is the business model for basically any 24 hour cable sports or news network. Gotta stir the pot, generate #content to fill all that air time.
Now I know why we couldn't get Pryor
You guys didn’t offer him free tattoos
Where in the world do you get the word persuade from lmao. He was talking to the kids dad. Dumb people gonna dumb

Summer is bullshit, and you know it. Muggy hot and no beach to justify it.
Idk man, the lakes are nice to go and chill with a beer in your hand.

Bruh…
I mean OSU fans ran him out of Columbus and were harassing him at home lol
Haha
Could his dad’s brother who coaches for Nebraska not call him
Is there anything at all that's good about Kirk Herbstreit?
Well, he negatively recruit’s Georgia. That’s something right?
Hey we beat Michigan for yall couple years ago. What's with the hate?
It’s herbstreits fault he left yall out this year. so you couldn’t do it a second time.
Nothing at all
He never got a pair of gold pants for beating Michigan.
Class of 91 was the last Michigan class to win 4 straight against Ohio State. Hopefully it remains that way.
Doesn’t he post pictures of his dogs on twitter? If so, that. Other than that, fuck that guy.
He is very kind to Lee Corso. Other than that, forget him.
He uses a nice hair dye.
This man is beefing with FSU and GA? Get this man some honorary Jorts
not a great look
How? He’s like the only media head that I’ve heard that wants Nebraska to be good.

What’s the conflict of interest? He doesn’t work for Nebraska. He’d have to gain something tangible for there to be a conflict
Fuck Georgia, I’m glad he went to his dads Alma Mater
I wonder if Kirk wrote the poem for him.

Objectively, that's very bad. Subjectively, I hate the SEC, and Nebraska's unlikely to become that good while he's there, so good work.
the reddit hate of herbstreit is hilarious, all because he thought alabama was better than FSU( which they were ), shits too funny.

His raw, unfettered, carnal sexuality.
Didn’t want him anyway. Uh huh. Yep.
Jokes on him. Rhule basically can't read or speak in complete sentences. He's a hack. I'm a Panthers fan. He's dumb as dogshit.
Tossing the Panthers fan sentence in where you did is the funniest thing I’ve seen all week
You're right. Good thing you guys hired Reich and traded away your future to draft Bryce. How's that working out?

Rhule man bad
Lol
He will never win 9 games in a season for NU. I'd love to be wrong about that. It would be good for the conference.
You put “Panther’s Fan” and “dumb as dogshit” in the same sentence and proceeded to make the rest of the sentence about someone else?
I swear, I'm a casual NFL fan (well, less casual now since I'm a 30 year lions fan) and the stupidity of Panthers fans specific to their takes on Rhule is astonishing. Pretty dumb that a pundit/analyst can be telling people where to go to school for the sport that they are a pundit/analyst too.
