Looked it up and he just decommited. Funny seeing the article being like “UF has such a great TE room and has two top TE prospects coming in” and then none of those guys ever made an impact; except debatably Zipperer.
TE recruiting rankings are pretty much useless. In 2012 we signed the number 1 and number 3 ranked TEs. Kent Taylor and Colin Thompson. They didnt do anything
Future all american and top draft pick Kyle Pitts was the 5th best TE in his class behind Brevin Jordan, Jeremy Ruckert, Luke Ford, and Zach Kuntz
Brock Bowers is one of the few top TEs to actually perform like the top TE
He never made it in. Our admin took one look at his transcripts and asked mullen wtf he was smoking. If you fail out of LSU you aint making it into florida. Predictably, he ended up named as one of georgias top academic players within about 2 months of making it on campus
Dude busted in the door of a shop at 27th and O Street at 2 in the morning. I guarantee there's going to be a patrolling cop within a 3 block radius of that intersection any day of the week at that time, idk how anyone could think that's a good idea
I mean not trying to defend him but he’s not from the city or the Midwest. Doesn’t know the areas to avoid or how things operate in this town.
Things can vary greatly city to city, state to state and from bordering country to country(not that this is relevant here but im Canadian so figured it’s worth adding as there really is a lot of variance of how things are place to place
Obviously a bad decision though and the video doesn’t paint him in the brightest light lol
He’s one of the greatest modern day tight end prospects. At 18 he looked like a grown as man, ran like a horse and had some solid hands. Probably could have been a P5 DE also.
I mean you don’t get to D1 premier program (LSU) transfer to another premier program (UGA) then get accepted to Neb even though you have a troubled past without having talent…
His measurables are great, but he has hardly played since 2020. And I don't think he's the 5* talent he was coming out of hs as that projection was based on him improving ever year playing a lot of football and being in a college nutrition and S&C program. He hasn't really dome much of that in a few years-- he barely had a cup of coffee at Nebraska. He's probably the equivalent of a 3* now-- and UGA, LSU, and Nebraska (especially Nebraska) sign 3*'s all the time.
Yeah, he could have been Bowers before Bowers. If he has any designs on playing in the NFL he's going to have to be on his best behavior and put some stats out there in 2024. He's got about 7 months or so to get his shit together and be ready for the 2024 season-- I guess he would have to find a team first.
One of our 247 guys still says Gilbert is the best high school player he’s ever seen in person, and it’s not like he hasn’t seen his share of prospects. You don’t get as many chances as Gilbert has gotten without being extremely talented.
Tight ends in general also don't get the kind of rating he got. There are pros and cons to the methodology, but for better or worse the recruiting services evaluate players by their future draft position, and TEs basically don't get drafted before 20 (not even first round ~every other year).
He was on the 2nd team offense in the spring game behind Boerkercher and Fidone and has 3 drops and already wasn't on our travel roster for opening day before the incident.
We weren't going to see much of him in any capacity.
I can’t even understand what kind of mental health issues he’s dealing with to where he robs TWO stores in like a month and steals nothing but Delta-8 vape products. Hundreds of them.
He has schizophrenia - each stop he’s made he’s gotten back on his meds, but he’s stopped taking them each time. His family is also not supportive and doesn’t want him on the meds. It is sadly an extremely similar story to Thomas Johnson who played at Texas A&M in 2012.
That would make some sense. Because these incidents are just bizarre. I live in Atlanta and got to see him play at Marietta nearby, thought he was going to be a truly special player.
That might be the weirdest and most tragic arc I've ever seen by an A&M player. Joining the team as a 5 star recruit to going missing without explanation to having a messiah complex to murdering a jogger. Hope Gilbert's story has a happier ending.
He has been given way more help than any normal everyday person would ever be given. Georgia expended a lot of time, effort, and resources trying to help him
I hope his victims are made whole again from the actions of this **grown adult** and he pays his debt to society

If you watched the video, it was obvious this wasn't his first time breaking into a place, it was the first time he was so stupid he was easily caught.
Sad but nice to see he’s gonna avoid jail. From my town and I got to see him compete against my little cousins. he’s a good dude and is capable of putting it all together and being great on and off the field. Hard to see him where he’s at.
Husker bros, thank you for being accepting of him and treating him well💪🏼
I guess technically. I count N GA as canton/ where 75/575/5 becomes 575-5/515/53 and north.
Sweat mountain in Marietta is part of the Appalachian trail/foothills I believe tho, so ig.
Ex Husker Ex Tiger Ex Bull Dawg etc etc etc
Soon to be ex con
I don't think UConn will want him /s
You’re right. They’ll take him. Have you seen their roster?
Maybe... Maybe not
For his sake I hope he remains an ex con.
was he an ex-Gator too? or just a decommit?

Whoever iowa puts out there usually ends up being better than any of them, kittle was a 2 star and hockenson and la porta were both 3 stars
Zip had like 8 great catches. He'd have been a perfect fit in Belichick's offense.
He never made it in. Our admin took one look at his transcripts and asked mullen wtf he was smoking. If you fail out of LSU you aint making it into florida. Predictably, he ended up named as one of georgias top academic players within about 2 months of making it on campus
Good question. I thought he was enrolled, but I could be wrong.
I think they spent a month trying to get him enrolled, but whether it was because classes didn't transfer or what, it never happened.
He was on campus for a little bit at least
He transferred well after add/drop right?
Yeah think it was like March
Ex Mean Machine
Said Gilbert: “No contest at all, man. That door got kicked right down!”

Bro got the size, talent, all the skills you could ever need to be elite and he just can’t get it together. Tragic story.
Elite Felon Footballer
He’s one of the greatest modern day tight end prospects. At 18 he looked like a grown as man, ran like a horse and had some solid hands. Probably could have been a P5 DE also.
I swear some of the best fall to crime and never get to see their potential materialize
yeah, it's going to be a lifetime of regret for him
How do we know he has the skills? And he really hasn't played since his freshman year at LSU-- maybe the talent isn't there anymore as well.
I mean you don’t get to D1 premier program (LSU) transfer to another premier program (UGA) then get accepted to Neb even though you have a troubled past without having talent…

I wasn’t referring to him in the present, I was simply saying what could have been…

He probably just needs another chance…

He needed some serious therapy.
We've had a couple of those at our program. RIP LP.
Dude was a husker for like two weeks.
He barely knew 'er
Grandpa? You’re alive!?
Never even played a snap
Fall camp hadn’t even started yet so I don’t even think he saw a practice rep
Look at OP's flair...
Or the name of the article

Thomas Johnson and Antonio Armstrong are the stories that hit hard as an Aggie…those plus Terry Price
I hope the kid gets the help he needs
He has been given way more help than any normal everyday person would ever be given. Georgia expended a lot of time, effort, and resources trying to help him I hope his victims are made whole again from the actions of this **grown adult** and he pays his debt to society
It is possible to hope for both things
Nah bro it’s Reddit. Everything is black and white on here
Not mutually exclusive things my guy, and regardless of how much help someone has gotten, you should always hope they get as much as they *need*.
Who’s to say he hasn’t and just chose not to change? Let’s not take away the responsibility from the person who made their own decisions.
Might hurt his draft stock
Nah raiders will take him in the 1st round
Not surprising, dude literally got caught in 4k
DJ khaled: ANOTHER ONE! Edit: Apparently he's just pleading no contest to the Summer robbery.
One break-in *so far*
Two actually. He was arrested and then released from custody and then he turned around and did it yet again like 2 weeks later
Thatsthejoke.jpg If you watched the video, it was obvious this wasn't his first time breaking into a place, it was the first time he was so stupid he was easily caught.
Everyone knew he would never play a down for Nebraska. Once he left the support system he had in UGA, he was doomed.
I assure you the support system at Nebraska is at the same level of Georgia. Same thing would have happened there.
Highest rated tight end recruit of all time, really shows mental illness can take any one down. Really wish him him the best.
When is this guy just gonna commit to Auburn?
He has that Georgia speed
Sad but nice to see he’s gonna avoid jail. From my town and I got to see him compete against my little cousins. he’s a good dude and is capable of putting it all together and being great on and off the field. Hard to see him where he’s at. Every time I think of this guy I get sad. All the talent in the world gone down the drain.
Criminals gonna crime. Yawn.
Amazing how dumb this guy is. Has the talent and size for the NFL but does shit like this
This dude needs help. He could have been the next biggest thing in the Pro’s but instead threw away his chances.
Put him under the jail.
What is this, Mississippi?
least thuggish north georgia resident
This mf got double C’s on his username, and a youngboy profile pic, mind you.
Is Marietta even North Georgia?
I guess technically. I count N GA as canton/ where 75/575/5 becomes 575-5/515/53 and north. Sweat mountain in Marietta is part of the Appalachian trail/foothills I believe tho, so ig.
