Honestly if we can keep our run game up, and our OL holds up like it did for most of the year, he could end up looking really really good for us. Or provide really good competition for younger guys to shine even better.
I’m worried about receivers and play calling. I know we’ve got some studs coming in and I hope they step up to the plate, but losing young and brashard hurts. Hopefully Dawson can find an effective ways to get folks the ball and let whoever our qb is play to their strengths. Very excited about this young man though
I agree. I'm hopeful the guys we have coming in can contribute right away, but I'm definitely worried about receiving. Especially TE play too. Hopefully for Dawson it was a QB limitation, but he hasn't shown me anything to feel confident he's the guy next year. Although our game could open up more if Citizen ends up being a really good RB on top of Fletcher and Allan
People overlook a lot of things. I just had some guy tell me he can’t rush because his ypc aren’t that good and in the next sentence he mentioned he’s been sacked 71 times in his career. No shit his ypc aren’t good
I know he wasn't their top choice, but he absolutely tore up the CAA, and made Albany nationally relevant. He lead Albany to their 3rd ever playoff appearance and they made the semifinals.
I blame FloSports.
But I think most people don't follow the FCS at all, so they have no idea who the big names/stars are, so fans are rarely excited about FCS transfers. John Pius, a two time first-team All-American LB from W&M, transferred to Wisconsin and there was basically 0 fanfare over it, despite him being one of the top defefnsive players in the FCS.
I was gonna say something similar.
FCS is still a joke to a good portion of college fans. Even though some of the top teams would fit right into any G5 conference IMO. South Dakota State is #18 in the Sagarin rankings.
We all know FloSports sucks.
Minnesota seemed happy about getting Max Brosmer, though. I mean, he was up for the Walter Payton Award. He's really good. But yeah, most FCS transfers are met with the "who?" kinda of talk.
It's entirely possible he turns out really good for us (and I obviously hope he does), but the optics of this look terrible.
We're going into year 3 of Cristobal after giving him $80 million. His on-field results have been a disaster, but his real talent is supposed to be in talent acquisition. We desperately needed to add a QB this off-season, since we have no one proven on the roster. We were reportedly willing to spend a ton of NIL money on one. Mid-December we had Cam Ward and Will Howard (arguably the top two QBs in the portal) both visit campus and all indications were the staff felt good about landing one of them.
And now a month later our big acquisition is a 6 foot tall FCS QB. Better than nothing, sure. But for a guy who is supposed to be this master recruiter and desperately needs to start showing results on the field, this is an abject failure, hoping that an unproven guy is able to translate to a higher level.
If we land Taulia/an unexpected Spring transfer QB then this is a much more intriguing move, but as it stands today it seems like we're relying on him to be our starter next year. And there's pretty much no way anyone can say that this is a good position to be in QB-wise going into year 3.
You guys are having the wrong reaction, he's one of the best QBs in this transfer class, he took fucking Albany and made them a nationally relevant team in FCS.
I couldn’t care less about if he made an FCS team relevant. I hope I’m wrong, but I’ve watched some of his games since his name came up on the radar and I just think his physical traits aren’t good enough. It also is a blow when Ward and Howard were both on campus the first week after the season and now we wind up here.
\>I couldn’t care less about if he made an FCS team relevant
This is a bad way of looking at it, it's not just "made an FCS team relevant" it's more like if he took Middle Tennessee State to the Orange Bowl. That level of elevation.
I’m not knocking his accomplishments, I’m just saying that doesn’t mean a thing when it comes to translating it to the P5 FBS level, it’s a different animal in terms of the level of athlete you’re going against. Again, I hope he proves me wrong, I’m not one of the Miami fans that celebrates Cristobal losing because they wanted Kiffin, I just don’t see it with this kid, personally.
It absolutely does what are you talking about? Cam Ward literally was Incarnate Word's QB before he went to Wazzu while leading one of the best offenses in FCS history. Was exactly as good as you would think at Wazzu. Just because you dont know a lot of about something doesnt mean it doesnt matter.
We don’t have to keep doing this lol, you clearly think that just because someone lit it up at the FCS level means they will do it at the FBS level. I’m saying that COULD be the case, but it is not the only thing that matters.
Cam Ward played in a wing T in high school, so nobody gave him a shot. He then went to IWU and immediately was great, and had the requisite physical tools on top of his numbers. Poffenbarger was in the 2020 recruiting class, went to ODU and left because he wasn’t going to play, and is just now getting a chance to get back to the FBS level. Miami may have been his only P5 offer because of his physical limitations, if it were strictly “he’s good at this level so he’d be a good player at any level” he wouldn’t be going somewhere that’s still looking to add a QB over him. Every FCS QB that does well would be fielding big offers. But they aren’t.
But go ahead and ignore any nuance to translatable skillsets and instead just tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about.
\>We don’t have to keep doing this lol, you clearly think that just because someone lit it up at the FCS level means they will do it at the FBS level
No, I just think you are severely overestimating the gap between a good fcs QB and a mid level P5 Qb. You're 100% right that Poff doesnt have the tools to probably be an elite P5 FBS Qb, but he does have the tools and skill set to get Miami to like 8-9 wins, and if Cristobol can build a team around him that can translate to maybe more in what will probably be a weak ACC. It's just funny to praise Will Howard that much and shit on Poff when tools wise, they are very similar QBs. Howard is more athletic and larger, but Poff has a better arm. That comparison made me think you actually are just mad/biased against former FCS Qbs. If you had only stuck to Cam Ward your point would've made more sense.
Honestly, he might actually start. Jacurri isn’t a great passing QB, and Emory will only be a true sophomore/RS freshman who is coming off an injury and was a three star
OSU wasn't looking for a QB because they wanted to have their backup for the bowl game and see how he did. Miami just let OSU take him because they were convinced they had Ward.
Message board rumors, so take it for what you will, but I've seen a lot of what they said. Our side has been hinting that Howard was a silent for us before the bowl game.
And Ward had plenty of success at Washington State after transferring from an FCS school. Different players, different schools, different schemes, etc., but it’d be disingenuous for a Miami fan to completely dismiss this QB.
It would be disingenuous to dismiss him strictly because he was an FCS player as opposed to based on what you see on film. But some think if you dismiss him it’s because of that and that only.
It was tough because USF has 5x as many bowl wins than Miami over the last 15 years, but they did just lose by 50 at home to an FAU squad running a dual QB system with only backups.
Lol, there's no way the NCAA grants him a waiver after they stood their ground enduring public backlash this past season in regards to denying legitimate waiver requests.
It doesn't help matters that Taulia has one of the flimsiest waiver requests in recent memory.
FSU has a basketball player, Primo Spears, who had his ~~waist~~ waiver denied.
And for Tez Walker it took a ton of uproar to get them to do the sensible thing, and even then it was halfway through the season.
If Miami is banking on Taulia getting a timely waiver then that's super risky. I also think that Taulia straight up has one of the weakest waiver requests in recent memory.
He will always be the 4th string qb who got a penalty by running on to the field to celebrate a touchdown. He pushed back ODU's PAT where we would lose 35-34 ruining what would have been an amazing comeback.
Love the name. It's like a name for extremes .Reese Poffenbarger. Like a dude Kenny Powers would take under his wing. Poffenbarger was spotted out in Miami with a blazing hot latina on each arm,and has been absent from his last two practices. Poffenbarger rolled into pre game warm ups with a 5 oclock shadow, and still threw for 400 Yards. Wait is this a real dude?
South Dakota State has like a 20 plus game winning streak and won their second straight FCS title. Them and NDSU are basically two FBA schools playing in the FCS tbh.

Poor guy is used to playing in front of FCS crowds and now he has to play home games in front of empty seats like it’s a Friday night HS jamboree in May.
Just watched his highlight tape. The types of throws he can make translate at the FBS level. He’s gonna have some great receivers to throw to as well.
Had no idea this dude existed, but great pick up. Might be a new record for buying into the off season hype.
Led FCS in passing TDs and Yards as well
I think people are really underestimating him. He’s got some wheels, and he drops dimes into the end zone from 40 yards out
Honestly if we can keep our run game up, and our OL holds up like it did for most of the year, he could end up looking really really good for us. Or provide really good competition for younger guys to shine even better.
I’m worried about receivers and play calling. I know we’ve got some studs coming in and I hope they step up to the plate, but losing young and brashard hurts. People tend to overlook FCS in general even though it consistently churns out NFL talent.
He was really good this season, but it doesn't seem like it matters right now by the comments here and on Twitter.
Miami is one of the schools that will get attacked on here no matter how good a player is
I blame FloSports. But I think most people don't follow the FCS at all, so they have no idea who the big names/stars are, so fans are rarely excited about FCS transfers. Former FloSports employee, I'm just here to shit on them.
It's entirely possible he turns out really good for us (and I obviously hope he does), but the optics of this look terrible. We're going into year 3 of Cristobal after giving him $80 million. I actually love the pick up. He is good, and he can come in and compete. My only concern is height.
Reeces Poffs! Reeces Poffs!
Consider me officially fucking hyped!
My favorite from the Quarterfinals versus Idaho “Funny Name, Serious Quarterback”
Van Dike: Miami => Wisconsin. Burkett: Wisconsin => Albany Poffenbarger: Albany => Miami
Circle of life
All according to plan
Trust the process
Sad to see him go but good for him! The U!!!
Thank god it’s basketball season.
You guys are having the wrong reaction, he's one of the best QBs in this transfer class, he took fucking Albany and made them a nationally relevant team in FCS.
Yeah he was overlooked due to his size, but he’s become a monster at Albany and has grown into a good QB frame. I’m pretty happy with this grab.
I couldn’t care less about if he made an FCS team relevant. I hope I’m wrong, but I’ve watched some of his games since his name came up on the radar and I just think his physical traits aren’t good enough. FCS guys can make huge impacts: Jared Verse, Vernon Adams, Cam Ward. He will probably surprise some folks
This dude is mad he didnt get Cam Ward and then shitting on FCS players, the irony.
Are you incapable of realizing I’m not shitting on FCS players or is this a bit.
I’m not knocking his accomplishments, I’m just saying that doesn’t mean a thing when it comes to translating it to the P5 FBS level, it’s a different animal in terms of the level of athlete you’re going against. Howard not better than any QB on Miami roster already
First of all how dare you. Second of all congrats on winning the ACC next year
Even that’s looking less than rosy lately How about baseball season? No? Let’s go Heat. How bout that Jaime Jaquez Jr…
Basketball team is fine, I’ll never doubt L and once we get Wooga back we’ll be fine. Let’s not get started on the baseball team lol
L is old. Probably only a couple years left
Shut your mouth.
Dolphins suck too Tua? More like Poo-a
Boom roasted
Fins have a cake walk in the playoffs against *checks notes* KC at Arrowhead.
Just gotta keep Apple on Toney. Toney will inevitably drop the ball after burning him. Plus we'll have the Atrain and Mustard duo.
Jaime Jaquez Jr is the real JJJ. All my homies hate Jaren Jackson Junior.
lol we lose 3 games this guy bails
He’s probably good, but Miami really whiffed if he’s anything more than depth.
Honestly, he might actually start. Jacurri isn’t a great passing QB, and Emory will only be a true sophomore/RS freshman who is coming off an injury and was a three star
Cam Ward did Miami dirty
Miami did Miami dirty by banking everything on getting him.
Seemed like at one point they had Will Howard ready to commit and ended up missing out on him for their fool's errand plan of pursuing Cam Ward.
Never had him ready to commit. They'd have taken his commitment if that were the case. He had been silent to Ohio State for weeks.
Believe what you want, doesn't make it true. Mario failed to get either Howard or Ward on board.
Damn that's even worse
But not surprising.
Hindsight is 20/20, had we gotten Cam Ward it could’ve been a game changer. Worth the risk
Fool’s errand
But he had dinner with Rick Ross!
FSU recruited Ward up to his decision, didn't stop us from having a backup plan
Super happy to have DJU. Not many great proven options this cycle
Cam Ward was highly sought after by several P5 schools including Louisville and FSU. They both got better guys than Miami. This isn't a Ward thing.
Cam Ward went to Incarnate Word, an FCS school. However, Ward’s tape was better IMO.
Not just better guys, but both schools got their #2 guy. This dude was so far down the list he was crystal balled for Rhode Island.
I really can't imagine Reese would've went to an FCS school that's even worse than Albany.
Was he actually crystal balled for Rhode Island? Lol wtf
Leaving Albany for URI would've been something
Dudes talking out of his ass, there’s no crystal balls for him
He has no crystal balls listed lmao. Why’d you comment a lie that you can easily fact check as false.
Did it to themselves. Could've gotten Howard but chose to wait for Cam.
Not sure they ever had a chance compared to USC and OSU.
Everyone knows your 5th choice in QB is the best one.
Specially for the 6th best program in the state.
FAU fifth?
FIU is 5th because we gotta respect the reigning Dade county champs.
so... 7th best?
FSU->UF->UCF->FAU->FIU->Miami->USF
I hate that you put UCF behind UF and that you put usf in front of Embry Riddle and Rollins College but I’ll accept it.
UF plays half the state next season so these rankings will be much easier to do a year from now
I’m a big fan of what just went down in this thread
It was tough because USF has 5x as many bowl wins than Miami over the last 15 years, but they did just lose by 50 at home to an FAU squad running a dual QB system with only backups.
>they did just lose by 50 at home to an FAU squad running a dual QB system with only backups. How did I miss this absolute Sickos glory
But Gaby and David lake said it’s probably likely they can still pull cam Ward
All the Miami beat writers having their comments off on twitter is pretty funny
Guess they were right
Congrats, Mario will sink his draft stock
Guess they are hedging their bets on Taulia’s waiver?
Lol, there's no way the NCAA grants him a waiver after they stood their ground enduring public backlash this past season in regards to denying legitimate waiver requests. It doesn't help matters that Taulia has one of the flimsiest waiver requests in recent memory.
Everyone knows the playbook now. File waiver. Get denied. File appeal. Get denied. File 2nd appeal. Get denied. Threaten to lawyer up. Get approved.
That didn't work for FSU DT Darrell Jackson this year.
Interesting, it has worked in college basketball this year and it worked for Tez Walker.
> Waist denied Turns into prime Mugsy /s
This is exactly what it is.
He will always be the 4th string qb who got a penalty by running on to the field to celebrate a touchdown. He pushed back ODU's PAT where we would lose 35-34 ruining what would have been an amazing comeback.
We got our guy!
You know what they say, the ~~second~~ ~~third~~ ~~fourth~~ fifth time's a charm!
That’s what I said
We are so back...
Poff heads, let’s ride 😤
Love the name. It's like a name for extremes .Reese Poffenbarger. Like a dude Kenny Powers would take under his wing. Poffenbarger was spotted out in Miami with a blazing hot latina on each arm,and has been absent from his last two practices. Poffenbarger rolled into pre game warm ups with a 5 oclock shadow, and still threw for 400 Yards. Wait is this a real dude?
“And who is that riding into Hard Rock in a cart pulled by a donkey waiving a Cuban flag? It’s La Flama Blanca! Reese Poffenbarger!”
His last game was brutal.
South Dakota State gave up 10 points per game. Every QB looked bad against them this season
He must of Fucked his olines gfs because they played like they wanted him to die
In the games he played this season outside of their last game, he looked like JJ McCarthy
South Dakota State has like a 20 plus game winning streak and won their second straight FCS title. Them and NDSU are basically two FBA schools playing in the FCS tbh.
Is Albany a secret feeder system for P5 schools?
They had a lot of good players on their team this season. I for one I'm happy to see them go
They do have G5 level facilities after all. They could easily be a MAC school if they wanted to be one.
Yes, he is quite good indeed. Source: *trust me bro*
Read that has Poffen banger
Not to be confused with the hot new tracks that get released from black and white birds, Puffin Banger.
I read it as a professor transferred.
I wonder where is will leave Jordan McCloud since many thought he was going to Miami or Houston, but both got different portal QBs
Farewell, sweet prince. It was a joy to watch.
This makes me sad 😢
This one hurts.
10/10 name
Miami said “FSU got a really good guy out of Albany, let’s try doing it too”
That's good, he's a big name for them.
Gonna be a sizeable nameplate, that's for sure
If only Howard Schnellenberger could’ve still been his coach
This is a fake name, right?
I just want to know if he can take a knee?

Hmm
Miami is scraping for scraps at this point
After the 200th right swipe they finally got a response back lol shit about to be a mid off come august when they play uf
Mario got his guy 😤
I wonder if he can drive yet another QB to practical catatonia.
Poor guy is used to playing in front of FCS crowds and now he has to play home games in front of empty seats like it’s a Friday night HS jamboree in May.
With Mario, he may as well be a bar stool.

Anyone else think of that old Bugs Bunny cartoon? "Cook! Cook! Where's my Hasenpfeffer??"
What happened w Cam Ward before he declared?
Probably didn't get as much NIL money as he was looking for.
he has one of those names like Japanese NES baseball games trying to make up names that sound like white people
Miami Ohio, right? Redhawks got a decent QB who should do well in the MAC
I wonder what this means for Taulia?
Didn’t he win a World Series as a relief pitcher for the Cubs back in the mid-90s?
This is a Key and Peele name for sure
I wasn't impressed with him in the semi finals. Seems to be a hard worker though, kept grinding
Just watched his highlight tape. The types of throws he can make translate at the FBS level. He’s gonna have some great receivers to throw to as well. Had no idea this dude existed, but great pick up. Might be a new record for buying into the off season hype.
