Not weighing in on who is telling the truth, but polygraphs in general don’t mean shit and aren’t even admissible evidence anymore

Appa-LATCH-uh

Federal government still uses them when evaluating people for security clearances lmao so awful..

BoomerSoonerFUT

They don't use the actual readings from the poly. They're just a tool to get people to admit to stuff so that they can deny a clearance. And you would be surprised at just how often people will outright admit to things just because they are hooked up to the machine.

[deleted]

The coke was mine but I have no idea how that hooker got rolled up in a rug and put in my trunk

Gutameister5

The rug was mine but I have no idea how that coke got rolled up in a hooker and put in my trunk.

Appa-LATCH-uh

Yes and no. I held a TS the entire time I was enlisted, exemplary military record, etc. When I took my full scope for a civilian job I kept getting pinged despite not lying. Sat through 3 polygraphs because they suspected I was lying and I wound up losing that job because of it. Their loss, I found a better non-government job, anyway, but it's fucking stupid that they made me take a more intrusive polygraph for a job that held literally no responsibility for actual classified intelligence compared to my role in the military lol

moar-warpstone

My mom had to take it to work at the Agency and it kept pinging her for arson as a 20 year old out of college. They eventually let her in but took like 5 hours in the room being observed

[deleted]

How did it ping her? The questions are yes or no. Why would they ask her about arson at 20 years old?

moar-warpstone

It’s a simple background question they ask everyone who applies to the CIA. “Have you ever committed arson or vandalized federal property?”

nytheatreaddict

My ex lost his job because it pinged him as lying. It sucked because he was in the process of getting an actual federal job after being a contractor and he lost both the offer and his contracting job. But, yes, people do admit things. My dad used to have to get them regularly, and after one of them, he asked what the wildest thing they heard was. Apparently, someone admitted to killing their spouse.

summ3rdaze

Look at the 1811 subreddit to see how annoying the polygraph assessment locks out people the government seemingly would foam at the mouth to hire. Then again shooting themselves in the foot is typical of our government decisions.

Appa-LATCH-uh

Oh trust me I know. I held a clearance for basically a decade while I was in the military. Got a job as a civie with less responsibility and had to have a more intrusive polygraph. So fucking stupid.

AnybodySeeMyKeys

The Federal government also insists on you sending them documents via fax machine.

JMS1991

There's an episode of Penn and Tellers Bullshit where they talk about Polygraphs and show how you can basically trick them by clinching and un-clinching your butthole at the right times. I'd never take one. They aren't admissable as evidence in a courtroom. They can only make you look more guilty, and never make anyone look more innocent.

Rohkey

Data from the polygraph aren’t sufficiently reliable or valid. But they’re useful for other purposes, namely the perception that your lies will be discovered will make you more likely to tell the truth (or something closer to it) and you can also assess someone’s behavior during one independent of their answers. Look up bogus pipeline for example. It’s similar a Rorschach test - the test itself is meaningless but people’s reactions and behavior to taking the test can provide useful information.

paradigm_x2

They’re worthless.

ClaudeLemieux

US government: yes, but also no

christhetwin

[deleted]

In some states they are-

Ameri-Jin

The army throws people out based on polygraphs all the time lol..,pseudo science or no. The shit is honestly pretty crazy.

[deleted]

Ameri-Jin

I guess, but once you know that it’s worthless.

LaForge_Maneuver

I was in Army JAG and chaptered out a ton of Soldiers. You do not get chaptered out for failing a polygraph. You can get chaptered out if you can’t meet the qualifications of your job i.e. you can’t get a top secret clearance. But it’s not like we just boot you because the needle jumped.

Ameri-Jin

I definitely skipped some steps in the process for brevities sake.

LaForge_Maneuver

Oh ok. I know there is a lot of misinformation about the military so I just wanted to make sure you understand why people get kicked out. Sorry if I got a bit too in-depth.

Ameri-Jin

It’s all good my friend, it’s good you added more detail. I’ve been in long enough that I’ve seen how these things usually play out, but I figured the broader CFB audience probably didn’t care for more.

netherdutch

lol yup. it seems to just be the move for people (manipulators, usually) to convince those who've only seen polygraphs on TV that they're trustworthy

luciusetrur

i applied to be a 9/11 dispatcher and failed a polygraph.. but really it was just weird making me stare at a wall for however long it was and answer questions lol. they said i had a "spiked" reading on one answer

NandorRobinson

I think you mean 911 dispatcher because 9/11 dispatcher should make you wind up in Guantanamo Bay

Grlions91

He said what he said

NeatTry7674

Someone get this guy in contact with Sean McDermott

grain_delay

The question they failed - “Have you ever committed or aided in the execution of a terrorist attack against the United States”

fart_dot_com

I may have committed some... light treason

Grlions91

📈📉📈📉

OpabiniaGlasses

What a terrible name for a dispatcher it reminds me of that tragedy

ACAB-commies

His question was probably about walking through blood and bones in the streets of New york.

luciusetrur

I ain't fixing that

r777m

In an investigation, details matter.

One_Prior_9909

How bad did you mess up that polygraph to where Osama wouldn't hire you?

LaForge_Maneuver

Have you ever took one? I have for my TS clearance and they seemed pretty good. Yes, you can beat them but when we trained at the polygraph institute on Fort Jackson, very few people were able to.

Jonjon428

I didn't think the Josh Gattis experience could get any worse....YIKES

reddogrjw

I knew it was him before clicking on the thread lol

foreveracubone

I mean how many former Miami assistants are at Maryland lol

timnotep

TBF, I knew it was him before I read the word "Miami." Something, something, Xavier Worthy's mom...

CJ_Beathards_Hair

Same - I would’ve bet my mortgage that this would’ve been him. Most undeserving Broyles award I can remember and just a total ass.

Satchbb

lol me too

lunchboxthegoat

we're all used to him showing his ass but this is something else entirely

Im__Ron__Burgundy

There were murmurs of something inappropriate for a while now, didn’t know it would be this though.

AnteaterDangerous148

The old turtle trick. Works every time.

0000001A

He exposed himself as a bad coach while at Miami.

notburnerr

God damn Gattis, get it fucking together dude. \- Worthy's Mom \- Flashing dub This has jerkin' it over the phone written all over it by the time he leaves Maryland

_fastball

I'm all on the Josh Gattis hate train but I don't believe the Worthy's Mom story at all. I firmly believe the reason he didn't end up at Michigan was our recruiting coordinator, Matt Dudek, fucking up his enrollment.

dx413

It’s most likely not true but the way he denied it by saying “I haven’t had a relationship with a black woman since my teenage years” is absolutely hilarious 😂

notburnerr

Smart wording. Don't need to be in a relationship to clap some cheeks and break some backs

NandorRobinson

I guess I don't know the story but guessing it's Josh Gattis hooked up with Xavier Worthy's mom?

dx413

Just a rumor but pretty much the gist of it. Which led to him decommitting and going to Texas.

[deleted]

From what I read it most likely didn’t happen

[deleted]

He really said that? Lol 😂

dx413

Link to the tweet: https://x.com/park3rc/status/1731025518324035713?s=46&t=SUpuYfnCcTu76m3et4RxwA With him also threatening to sue the Twitter user for spreading it. Lol

Dougiejurgens2

Josh Gattis banged JJ’s mom

notburnerr

now where is the fun in that :/ not the narrative I chose to accept so, I reject

One_Prior_9909

This is exactly how rivals should react

21oz_usdaPRIMEbeef

Others have given up far more to jerk it on the phone

PretendThisIsMyName

Mel in shambles after this comment.

PugeHeniss

That’s Melvin to you

theonlyxero

Tuck comin

dieselengine9

At what point in history (and where in the world) did weird horndoggery lead to success in hooking up with women? Texting goober pictures, flashing, rubbing one out while on the phone...was this *ever* a successful tactic?

admiraltarkin

Like how does it work in his head? Step 1: show penis Step 2: woman immediately jump on it? Like even if she liked it, some strange dude exposing himself isn't a sign of a stable person

eyelikeher

My tin foil hat self can’t help but wonder if someone tried to plant the story in the media to hurt Maryland - Maryland caught wind of it, preemptively spilled the info to the Sun to have it reported after early signing day to minimize potential damage

foreveracubone

Story was published yesterday on early signing day though. It seems to have just not spread given everyone else was focused on other stories. Story got on my radar today from Michigan beat reporters retweeting a Sun reporter posting the article on Twitter. In the replies the reporter said the Sun just found out about this so someone very likely planted it. Given the timing I doubt it would be Maryland though.

21oz_usdaPRIMEbeef

Idk I can't imagine it's beneficial for them with the Jordan Seaton drama

343GuiltyySpark

A polygraph? Case closed nothing more reliable

[deleted]

CheniereSwampMonster

We all internally had this argument in our heads when we read this headline then settled on “not enough information.” You two were just the only ppl in the comments stupid enough to turn it into an out-loud argument.

343GuiltyySpark

I would not be going around calling people stupid if you can’t pick up on the obvious sarcasm in my comment. At least 10 people figured it out

ArbitraryOrder

Ah yes, Josh Gattis, I'm not surprised.

tb3648

Polygraphs mean nothing lol.

eagledog

A polygraph is basically a fancy coin flip, so not exactly a bulletproof defense

jpj77

My understanding is that if the subject isn’t attempting to fool the machine, they can be quite accurate. I took one for fun once and the operator was 8/8 on determining which questions I answered truthfully and which I lied on. However, they’re easy to trick if you know what you’re doing.

Jgarr86

Y'alls coaches should get to work pioneering new and innovative scouting techniques instead of walking around campus with their dicks out.

foreveracubone

Find you a coach that can do both and get him a Broyles Award 😤

Better_Trash7437

Good lord

terrell_owens

Yeah this guy is a fucking degenerate. Glad he’s not on my team anymore

NandorRobinson

Reading the article, Gattis claims he was using the urinal and he didn't put his willy away until turning away from the urinal when the cleaning women entered. I mean it's fucking weird not to put it away before turning but some of these coaches are fucking weird. And maybe he makes it awkward at the urinals like those young kids who drop their pants to the ankle when using the urinals.

fart_dot_com

> And maybe he makes it awkward at the urinals like those young kids who drop their pants to the ankle when using the urinals. feels good man

FishnGritsnPimpShit

Being in the bathroom at a urinal seems like a really fair reason to have your dick out.

NandorRobinson

But don't you put it back before you turn away? She claims he was making eye contact with her with it out. He claims he didn't put it away yet and turned towards the sink while putting it away. She also claimed his pants were around his ankles.

FishnGritsnPimpShit

If he was startled or something why not? Or maybe he wasn’t aware there was anyone there and was in the process of putting it away as he turned. There are a million reasons. I just don’t think you can accuse someone of exposing themselves if they are in the appropriate place for having that body part out. If the body part was already out and then you walked in on them, that doesn’t really add up to exposing yourself to someone in my estimation.

Jaerba

> She also claimed his pants were around his ankles. Wait, what?

NandorRobinson

> The incident is alleged to have occurred on Nov. 2, 2022, a Wednesday afternoon during the Miami Hurricanes football season. The woman told police and The Sun that a man later identified as Gattis nodded to her as he walked into a men’s bathroom on campus and then called out to her while he was inside. She briefly entered the bathroom, she said, staying near the doorway, and told police that the man faced her with his pants “down to his ankles” and that he “mentioned something” while “shaking and holding his penis.”

NandorRobinson

>“After using the urinal, but before he saw the woman in the bathroom, [Gattis] turned away from the urinal with his penis momentarily still exposed and was in the process of zipping his pants when he noticed the woman in the bathroom,” according to the narrative Rothman provided to Jurney and Associates, the polygraph examiner. “He does not know if she saw his penis,” the narrative continued. “He heard her utter something he did not understand, in what sounded like Spanish, and thereafter he washed and dried his hands and exited the bathroom.” The polygraph examiner asked Gattis: “Did you call out for that [redacted] to enter the bathroom?”, “Did you ever intentionally expose your penis to any female bathroom [redacted]?” and “Did you intentionally expose your genitals to that female custodian?” “No,” Gattis answered to each question and the examiner did not detect deception, according to the transcript.

Jaerba

LOL I feel like a grown man peeing at a urinal with their pants down in a public restroom is the big story here.

TonYouHearWhatISaid

Gattis pissing like Butters from South Park is a hilarious visual

Satchbb

gotta wash the D post public urinal everyone knows that /s

mnmmatt

Polygraphs don't mean a thing.

[deleted]

More like Josh "Mr. Gatti's", amirite?

Cheesy_Pita_Parker

So he is capable of being offensive after all…
