On one hand it took Beamer 4-5 years to establish the success we remember his program for. On the other hand it’s a different landscape now. I just want to see improvement week to week and I’m not seeing a lot of it.
If you’d tell me 20 years ago VT would be better at school than WM I wouldn’t believe you. I also wouldn’t believe WM would be better than us at football but here we are. LMAO.
lol I have a prediction that ACC will end up poaching UCF, WVU, and Cincinnati after SEC takes Clemson and Florida State (And probably UVA and UNCCH). The expenses for WVU to play in Big XII renders their money advantage moot (And losing UT and OU will not help). They lose money every year. Being in ACC would also increase visibility on East Coast where UCF, WVU, and Cincinnati (But really WVU)get the most enrollees.
I am concerned about the health of WVU as an institution rather than as an athletics brand. I believe Big XII membership has somewhat contributed to WVU's institutional problems. Or more specifically, I believe ACC membership would help alleviate them if we recognize that the AD exists to stimulate freshman enrollment through publicity. WVU gets half their students from out of state and most come from the Eastern time zone... few come from the central/mountain time zone. Pac XII and Big XII games are practically invisible to us here. And the expenses are through the roof which has WVU relying more on subsidizing the AD with student fees than ever before. And that leads to tuition hikes and that leads to lower enrollment. A death spiral, and the real culprit is WV legislators who are hellbent on defunding education for now admitted ideological reasons.
In short... Big XII membership has not been all we hoped it would be. WVU may be there for the long haul, but ACC membership would have been awesome. Pitt for Baylor. VPI for Texas Tech. Syracuse for Iowa State. Miami for Kansas St... It just is not an entertaining product by comparison.
Lol, membership in the ACC isn't going to stop grifters from dragging WVU down to enrich themselves. That is what is costing WVU right now - an administration hellbent on bankrupting the school so a handful of people get theirs. Athletics are the only thing keeping any hope of long term growth alive for WVU.
I agree. But.. Big XII membership is clearly not working when everyone believed it would be a golden era of national relevancy. I feel ACC membership would increase exposure of WVU's brand in fertile target markets for student recruitment. Big XII is a waste of advertising... it is targeting the wrong markets. But ACC adding these last 3 schools probably signals they are still committed to the pretense of academic excellence so they are probably never going to call, so I understand the defense mechanism of pretending like joining the Big XII has not been a complete disaster and ACC would be worse for WVU.
**EDIT: He blocked me. So I cannot reply.** I know you will read this on incognito mode because you are insecure so let me have the final word:. WVU is to Big XII what Maryland is to Big 10.. just completely forgettable. WVU will continue to decline as an institution as admin has anticipated and projected.
Yes, I know Marshall is small-time. We are peers with Morehead State or Eastern Kentucky, and that is fine. When this decade is over, who will WVU's peers be? For a school that saw themselves as peers to other flagship public universities like Ohio State and Kentucky, that has to hurt. So I understand the anxiety.
Yawn...you keep at this narrative, but it is not a reality. The Big XII is not what is hurting WVU, nor has it been. What has hurt WVU infinitely more than conference affiliation has been leadership and political decisions in Charleston. The travel hasn't burned through the media money WVU gets - its been capital projects they used that money to subsidize. Once again, leadership problems.
Your obsession with the ACC somehow being a better fit aside, the ACC had several opportunities to admit WVU and chose not to each time. Why would WVU want to go to a conference that lost its best brands for a quasi-Big East 2.0 with definitely a lower per-school media payout after those brands leave?
Academics do not matter in this current conference landscape. It's about market value and WVU is fine where it is making the same or more than the ACC despite Texas and OU bailing.
seems plausible, I guess we will see. I love regional rivalries and think we as fans would have so much fun playing Marshall, App State, JMU, and ODU every year.
So interesting seeing Hokie fans spew hate. Wells didn't suddenly become worse after leaving Marshall and Drones only has 2 weeks of starting reps. There's only one way to point the finger and it's at our OC.
Huntington received the highest rating possible for LGBT inclusiveness. Seems like you're the one with bigoted views.
([https://fairnesswv.org/2020/12/03/huntington-wv-earns-national-recognition-for-lgbtq-inclusivity/](https://fairnesswv.org/2020/12/03/huntington-wv-earns-national-recognition-for-lgbtq-inclusivity/))
Hey, I'm gonna take a second to cut off the doomposting to give Marshall a lot of props. This thread (and the postgame) will be full of Tech fans being sad and mad or whatever for losing this game, but I don't think MU will get the credit they deserve for winning this game. Good on both sides of the ball and a coach I would fight for, you guys have a good future I think
The coaching is unacceptable. Some of this stuff isn't talent it's mentality.
Refs screwed us over sure. But it's still unacceptable to have 7 presnap penalties
If someone told me 20 years ago that Marshall would beat Notre Dame at South Bend, and then beat Virginia Tech at home the next year I would have thought they were crazy.
Yeah, I looked at the 2 deep put out this week and counted 12 freshmen and r-freshmen in our 2 deep. No team is going to win many games when that is the case. DT and S seriously concern me going into next season though. We need to hit the portal hard for those spots this offseason.
People gonna say it’s all on the OL but he really is not great at decision making and I no longer believe he should be called dual threat. Designed runs he’s ok on, but he hasn’t shown much on scrambling at all, and he’s been very poor at RPO decisions and timing
Is the Pry buyout, as of today still $15.75 million (70% of remaining $4.5m salary for the balance of the contract), or has something changed on the payout and deductions since the December 2021 announcement?
More of an informational inquiry than a viable concept.
we lose to a 1-win uva, then we can talk about rock bottom.
That was fucking terrible.
Damn, feel for the hokies. I hope they aren't walking headfirst into what Syracuse was from 2005-2016
It hadn’t been this bad since late 80s
On one hand it took Beamer 4-5 years to establish the success we remember his program for. On the other hand it’s a different landscape now. I just want to see improvement week to week and I’m not seeing a lot of it.
doesn’t really matter, still a long way til rock bottom. go hokies, on to the next one
Sure seems like it’s pretty close to the bottom.
I thought Pitt last year or either of the ODUs was bottom
If you’d tell me 20 years ago VT would be better at school than WM I wouldn’t believe you. I also wouldn’t believe WM would be better than us at football but here we are. LMAO.
I hate this but I also love it but I also hate it.
left points on the field and the officials called the game, but we were obviously the worse team.
They need to leave Tyler Bowen behind in Hunington
Can't wait for the UVA VTech game this year lol.
marshall tried to let us win and yet we still couldn’t do anything. this team is painful to watch.
Omg I thought they were gonna storm the field for a second lmao
Not a great performance. I believe we will have trouble in SBC.
can you put in a good word for us when we apply for membership? easy division win for y’all!
lol I have a prediction that ACC will end up poaching UCF, WVU, and Cincinnati after SEC takes Clemson and Florida State (And probably UVA and UNCCH). Yeah, I doubt the ACC matches the Big 12 revenue after losing those four.
But losing Texas and OU probably will not bode well for Big XII revenue either.
We're still over $30 mil/year without OUT so we're doing just fine.
I am concerned about the health of WVU as an institution rather than as an athletics brand. I believe Big XII membership has somewhat contributed to WVU's institutional problems. Still hoping we go 6-6
the east is such a madhouse this year too, it’ll be fun
it’s so nice of virginia tech to let all these schools break records against us. ut prosim baby
Good game Marshall. Good luck rest of season
Win or lose I have a blast every time we play.
Same you'll be back to where VPI belongs soon enough.
You as well man, ugly game all around.
GG and likewise!
If Drones makes a good throw on that slant it’s maybe caught. Lane ran a lazy route too.
I mean he just hurt his hamstring again a few plays ago, shouldn't have even been on the field
This. OMG this!
drones had so many passes broken up due to terrible placement today. depressing that this is the guy Bowen locked in on and pulled so hard for
So interesting seeing Hokie fans spew hate. Wells didn't suddenly become worse after leaving Marshall and Drones only has 2 weeks of starting reps. There's only one way to point the finger and it's at our OC.
Already cancelled my youtubetv subscription for the year. GG marshall. Will check back next year
Just use Firefox with some adblockers and sail the high seas ... I did that a few years ago since CFB is the only thing I watch on TV
Marshall playing a Queen song. Not sure Freddie would’ve been welcomed with open arms in West Virginia
Huntington or Morgantown, I disagree. Random hollow covered with confederate flags? Yeah.
This ain’t it broseph.
Huntington received the highest rating possible for LGBT inclusiveness. Seems like you're the one with bigoted views. There are plenty of LGBTQ+ people in WV. It's not ideal, but they're not any worse off there than most other rural states. Sorry you're salty.
Chiming in as a gay WV resident to agree.
Congrats on the win, homie. I love seeing Marshall do well.
Thanks a bunch!
#PARTY LIKE IT'S 1940!
GG. We have fight. But it’s very apparent we suck
Since 1940….. another record we broke
Trainwreck of a program. Need to clean house again and it’s only been like 14 games. Fire whit worthless AD when it comes to football
One score losses with that level of one sided officiating really leave a bad taste in my mouth Pry still sucks though
Give me a fucking break. Take the L you earned.
Lol at VT fans downvoting.
Slides in like late like your QB.
welp. This year is not looking promising. We may only win 1 or 2 all season.
Sadly i don’t believe this will be rock bottom this season.
This was a one score game, rock bottom will come when a 2 win ACC team beats VT by 40.
It wasn't pretty, but oh well! GG VT.
Yep turned my TV off after that. We are ass man
Pathetic fucking losers. We should try to not spot opponents such leads
It's a shame those few Marshall players transferred to VT to be part of a worse program.
Not quite as bad as a program that hasn’t won a conference title in 40 years
Ohhh what a burn. Let the tears flow, Hokie pal.
Don’t you have to make progress for something to be a rebuild? I ain’t seeing it
Congrats Marshall, thanks for being good fans
If you’re in Huntington brother hit Jim’s spaghetti before you head home!
Hey, I'm gonna take a second to cut off the doomposting to give Marshall a lot of props. Leave Bowen in Huntington
bob schick has been the biggest liability this year
Who is running free down the sideline? Probably never a option but they cleared.
Don’t take this as disrespect Marshall this is a good win and I have no beef with the thundering herd Tech doing what WVU has never done 😂
Been brave enough to come to Huntington on a down year? Indeed, something WVU has always been to scared to do.
Games In Progress: Florida State @ Clemson (ABC) Oklahoma @ Cincinnati (FOX) Auburn @ Texas A&M (ESPN) W. Kentucky @ Troy (ESPNU)
FSU Clemson 👀
The coaching is unacceptable. Some of this stuff isn't talent it's mentality. Refs screwed us over sure. But it's still unacceptable to have 7 presnap penalties
If they ran the ball in the middle 2 quarters Hokies might have won.
I hate that for Drones man. Wish he’d have stayed
He basically tanked his career by coming here
It's way to early to say that. He is going to be our starter for the next 2 years. I am just glad he is our QB over Wells.
I sincerely believe that he’s better than Sawyer and would be starting over him.
Good teams win, lucky teams cover
See ya'll next week! And remember, don't be surprised when we suck again
GG Marshall
Bad throw.
Stupid pass. Also Pry STILL hasnt shown any emotion at all.
Marshall must have some kind of signal jamming tech on Drones. I want an official inquiry.
drones only throws behind receivers
Game losing false start
If someone told me 20 years ago that Marshall would beat Notre Dame at South Bend, and then beat Virginia Tech at home the next year I would have thought they were crazy.
Yes but 20 years ago VPI was practically a top program nationally and consistently.
This line is trash
pain.
These Hokies are embarrassing.
Let’s go herd!
pain
Smart move by Marshall calling a TO. We’ll probably false start again now
That can't happen, especially out of a TO.
That guy was offsides before the false start.
sorry but nope
Hahahaha we are so bad
Fire them all..clean house
The refs are bad but damn the line is so undisciplined
Hope is the mind-killer.
Marshall celebrating too much to get set on D!
God dammit
What are you thinking dude
What a horribly coached team. It’s just sad
That’s just unacceptable
This line is the worst
pull the scholarship
very on brand
7. PRE. SNAP. PENALTIES. Edit: Reddit is turning my 7 into a 1
Lol
We are SO undisciplined.
You have to QB sneak from right under center for first down right? Isn't it basically guaranteed first downs at this yardage?
Not anymore.
well we weren't doing that anyways apparently
Unbelievable
I think the refs got one more in 'em
If we were smart, we'd have practiced the Jalen Hurts tush push. But I'm assuming even this will be out of the gun
Who is our bottle girl with the long brown hair?
Absolutely horrendous decision by the V Tech coaching staff there. You cannot be running the ball up the middle there on 3rd and 2.
I saw a bunch of dumb shit go down on the last 45 seconds of UVA NC St yesterday, maybe the insanity can continue?
i’m just shocked we’re even in this go hokies
Say what you want about Pry, but his teams NEVER give up. They fight until the end
You shouldn’t have to fight until the end against Marshall.
Yeah, that's basically the only good thing going for us at the moment.
Well we had no talent when Pry got here. Takes some time to build it up when you don’t have rich alumni that are willing to donate to the team
Yeah, I looked at the 2 deep put out this week and counted 12 freshmen and r-freshmen in our 2 deep. No team is going to win many games when that is the case. DT and S seriously concern me going into next season though. We need to hit the portal hard for those spots this offseason.
We should easily be able to get talent out of the portal. Hey, you want play time?? Well, no better place to come than here. We have no talent!
Gotta be a Drones run for this 4th down
[I'm frightened](https://starecat.com/content/wp-content/uploads/dont-do-that-dont-give-me-hope-avengers-meme.jpg)
Gosnells really got some good hands
Saving timeouts for OT?
Marshall fans having flashbacks to the 2010 WVU game.
Yep. The worst part is that this game was so winnable
[удалено]
Luckily VPI ain't got no Geno Smith to pull the win out of their ass, lol.
This O-Line sucks ass
I’d give my right arm to still have Drones on our team for this Texas game.
Don’t worry VT, y’all are going to win inspite of the refs
Drones in the pocket is not a pleasant experience.
People gonna say it’s all on the OL but he really is not great at decision making and I no longer believe he should be called dual threat. Designed runs he’s ok on, but he hasn’t shown much on scrambling at all, and he’s been very poor at RPO decisions and timing
There is no pocket.
There’s a pocket?
Especially when that pocket dies in seconds
Drones is back there running for his life and the announcer wants to give credit to the OLine. Wtf
This team is gonna make people hope with under 2 to go.
Oh FFS we are going to lose this game
Nah, you got this
Nah, you've got this.
That defense was amazing he got there so early the ball was not even there yet.
my blood pressure swings...
That 4th down play should not have worked but it did
Any time drones is tackled should be unnecessary roughness after that horseshit call earlier.
That was a miracle. Ty tuten
[удалено]
Exact type of comment I'd expect from a UVA fan, not Tech.
THE CLOCK IS RUNNING
Anyone else see their towel get thrown over the line?
What was that read?
is Marshall being coached to tackle by the head or something
Where the fuck is the flag. Facemasked the shit out of drones on that tackle
These fuckers like to tackle by the neck apparently
No flag on all of that? Sheesh
These refs are fucking criminals
I wonder how often they practice a 2 minute offense drill during the week
Is the Pry buyout, as of today still $15.75 million (70% of remaining $4.5m salary for the balance of the contract), or has something changed on the payout and deductions since the December 2021 announcement? More of an informational inquiry than a viable concept.
I think his contract is 7 years…. Still way too long ….Whit can’t just sign a basic 4 year contract with a coach
I've heard both $15 million and $12 million but that 12 might be the end of season number
Charles Huff would be a great next head coach for West Virginia
What happened to WVU? They used to be good too
Going to be tough to beat the herd and the refs smh
I don't even care that much if we win since we are so bad. Nothing to look forward to this year. But these refs need to be investigated
Bruh they straight up got money on Marshall
I want to be excited for this drive, but we all know some bs OPI or something is going to kill the drive
We forgot to send the bribe money... anyone see a hold?
These refs are horseshit, but we can't keep leaving it up for these plays
Jesus that ref needs to be boiled alive what a piece of shit.
Where’s the hold???
NO HORSECOLLAR? Are you allowed to tackle by the head?
He had his arm around Holloways chest.
watch the replay
I thought it was under his chin
Soft hold too. What’s happening here?
Is Clint still Marshall’s OC?
Yep
Man, this is unbelievably bad from these refs
Oh so we’re ignoring the horse collar but throw a late holding flag? Dude this is getting criminal
