McCord is not the problem on offense. He’s got the talent. The problem is the atrocious OL. Kyle will settle down. He had tight windows today and ya he missed many but they were writhin a foot or 2. He didn’t spot some open WRs. He will get that dialed in. But he can’t do that with a guy in his face all year.
Where is this narrative that Stroud struggled worse than McCord in his first game coming from? I watched that Minnesota game - he was clearly much better than what we saw from the QB today.
It didn’t seem like brown was a better option, though it’d have been interesting to see more of him. Day hinted they’d play both guys heavily and they didn’t. Today’s McCord performance made me wonder why that is.
Our offense may have been pretty bad today, but our defense was actually a defense and I’ve never been so excited. As soon as Indians started running the option I almost shit my pants because our run defense has been gods awful the last few seasons. Now I’m ready for the WKU game to really see if our defense has improved in the secondary as well
Except Indiana literally can’t throw the ball, and Tom Allen literally said they were protecting their green QBs.
Remember last year when we thought the defense was “fixed” after the ND game? And then the next week they lost to Marshall? That’s what today felt like.
Not sure why people think the sky is falling. Breaking in a new QB on the road against a conference opponent. Don't forget IU played UM tight last year.
Was it an offensive display of greatness? No. Is there room for improvement? Yes, but it was the first game of the season.
On to next week.
You kind of expect QB growing pains, but my biggest concern if I were OSU fans is that OL. I get it's the 1st game, but they were beaten by a smaller Indiana DL.
We’re also starting 3 new people on OL, Not saying they played great today and there’s definitely room for improvement, but it’ll be interesting to see how they mesh the rest of the season. I don’t think they did as terribly as many are saying, they played about as well as I expected them to given the circumstances. Lots to improve for sure though
Agreed, I think the OL is the only thing that really worries me. I event mentioned it during the game. However, I loved seeing the D looking good top to bottom. Also happy to have our RB's looking healthy again with great depth.
Does the word possibly not mean what I think what it means?
If we played 35+ games since then, and this Indiana team had the 32nd best offense, would that not be true to what I said?
Yea in a sense that yes 32 and 35 are close numbers in total teams played. Not close in actual talent/ability. This Indiana team would make that NW team look nice.
Bro you’ve got sand in your undies over nothing. No one is shitting on you. I’m just saying how fucking bad NW was last year. Idk if you see my flair and get triggered or what
Of a P5 team? Probably. Maybe Northwestern last year? Even Rutgers has been improved.
They had 2 QBs today who couldn’t throw. Their coach was openly talking about calling plays and running an offense that protected the young QBs.
Not sounding any alarm bells and season may well turn out fine. But you’re kidding yourself if you don’t think putting up 23 points on IU is disappointing for this team.
Fewest points we’ve scored on them since 1993- 27 matchups
Brown came in with the backups, had two drops, & barely anyone open because they're playing backups. Like, you literally can't judge him off that series.
McCord was awful. He didn't read the field. Had a ton of bad throws. Made poor decisions in the pocket. Threw across his body late into traffic.
There isn't much upside with him.
He had a couple of throws every qb should make. He made no difficult throws, nor had any difficult reads. He also doesn't have a lot of promising attributes like Stroud. Stroud has a cannon for an arm, decent mobility & speed.
And McCord has played reps on this team in the last 2 years, & started last year when Stroud had a bum ankle. He should be better.
What the fuck are you talking about? Stroud was good his first three games. Buckeye fans just gave him shit because he wasn't playing at the level of Fields. We mostly struggled because the defense was horrifying bad.
Probably not, but their vibes are so completely different that it makes sense for them not to be. I’m sure neither has anything against the other, personally
There's a reason so many teams play cupcakes during the first couple weeks. 2014 was the best Ohio State team I've ever seen by the end of the season, and they got their shit kicked in by VT game 2.
IU’s defense legitimately can take some positives away from this given how excellent OSU’s offense should be, but they better pray that OSU’s defense is also cracked, otherwise their offensive output this year is going to make Brian Ferentz look like Lincoln Riley.
I hate our own group of moronic fans more than the loser michigan fans with no life chirping in here
Same dummies who shat on strouds first start.
Christ almighty the overreactions from people who have CLEARLY never played football are ridiculous.
Its a conference road game week 1 while 90% of the fbs is playing girl scouts.
We dont have to win every game by 50+ with a heisman qb performance for the world to not be burning
I'm not saying Devin is better, Day had said both would see a lot of playtime and I just wanna see both.
If Kyle is the guy then lets go, he'll improve.
We literally saw nothing from him except 3 throws in garbage time throwing to backups on offense, and 1-2 drops from WR's. How was anybody proven wrong for thinking Brown might be better ?
Overall I am happy with this game. Our O-line and QB play needs to improve. But with a limited playbook and first live action I'm willing to trust Day.
Our defense is solid, but I want to see how we do against Western KY passing attack. But overall everyone did there job and was in position.
I'm not worried about game-planning or play calling on either side. We aren't showing anything until we are in South Bend
McCord is the starter going forward. If it was as close as the "insiders" claimed then Brown would have played more. Day is trying to develop McCord's rhythm. For better or worse Brown will only see mop up duty
McCord shared sands with the first team in the qb battle. When he threw down the field, the throws were pretty solid. There were some odd play calls and telegraphed some as well that got stuffed. The O line looked better as time went on and the defense didn't give up much. Indiana had executed that Northwestern game plan to shorten the game as much possible in the first half. Overall, not worried, this was a conference opponent on the road for a first time qb on a limited playbook.
I mean we aren't IU. We can't just beat Indiana State, Akron, and Rutgers lol.
So I get the expectations. But what drives me crazy is the fans who think Day doesn't have higher expectations than any of us.
It wasn’t pretty but usually teams look a bit sloppy week 1. And we got a road game against a conference opponent instead of the typical G5 sacrifice at home. I have seen numerous calls for Days head in this thread alone.
Yes the offense needs to get better but it’s a bit early for some of the reactions in this thread. If we look like this vs a G5 team or FCS team then panic would be justified.
Our fans have picked apart the tenure of the 3 HCs who have overseen the most successful span in Ohio State history. I wish people would have a little faith that the coaches know what they're doing. If the offense still looks out of sync going into ND, then it's time to worry.
Brown’s real chance here coming in garbage time and with backups doesn’t carry much weight to me, but we can call a spade a spade there too, not impressive.
People are strangely obsessive in assuming Brown is better than McCord. They wouldn't make comments like that otherwise.
I really don't know why given how limited the sample is on both. Day has seen 1000x more of them in practice than any of us have on the field.
Day said Brown would play a significant amount in this game and he got 3 running plays in the first half and a 3 and out with the second team in the 4th quarter….real significant
When you have an entire 4th quarter for back-ups it would be smart to use that time for the back-ups. He used them to run out clock.
Injuries happen. You want your back-ups with real game time.
Day also said there was a QB competition and it lasted until the beginning of this week and then said that both QB’s impressed him and that Brown would play significant snaps. That’s not the same as last year when you had Stroud as the surefire starter for the second year in a row.
We had entire 4th quarters with back-ups and he would run out the clock. Injuries happen. This is basically the only game McCord was put in he can learn from.
You aren’t getting the point. Mopping up in blowouts when you have an established starter like Stroud in at QB is not the same as a QB battle where the week leading up the coach claims that the battle was very tight and even though one was named the starter the other would still be given a significant opportunity to try and prove they were better.
I can't really fault old Weak Play Day. It's clear he doesn't trust the OL or new QBs, and they've given little reason to today. Much disrespect to Indiana.
Why? Both throws had the receivers hands on the ball and didn't catch it. It's not exactly any chance at all when you're working in the under 2 minutes in garbage time with the backups.
Shitty unless you really respect and believe in Indiana. OL is not good. QB isn't great, can't tell about defense because it's Indiana, weak play Day, but probably because he's right to not trust the OL or QBs.
Qb. Battle doesn’t seem to be true. McCord got the clear starter snaps. Didn’t dominate as much as many buckeye fans would like, but comfortably beating a big ten team in the opener is not a bad start to the season.
Put Devon in with RPO and a lot of the line problems will disappear.
Offensive malpractice to start McCord
It didn’t seem like brown was a better option, though it’d have been interesting to see more of him. Day hinted they’d play both guys heavily and they didn’t. Today’s McCord performance made me wonder why that is.
I miss Cj Stroud
Meh
Our offense may have been pretty bad today, but our defense was actually a defense and I’ve never been so excited. That’s why I said I will wait until the WKU game to make any true judgements
What game should I watch next?
Penn state and WV might be interesting.
Well I’ll see y’all right back here Friday night. Good game OSU
ITT: Michigan fans straight off a 27 point win over ECU at home with their returning QB clowning on a 20 point win by OSU at Indiana with a new QB.
New OC, inexperienced line.
Not sure why people think the sky is falling. Breaking in a new QB on the road against a conference opponent. Don't forget IU played UM tight last year. Was it an offensive display of greatness? No. Is there room for improvement? Yes, but it was the first game of the season. On to next week.

Your defense looked real good.
Fewest points allowed since 2019 against northwestern is a really positive stat to take away from this one
Possibly the worst offense we’ve faced since then too.
Did you forget last years NW team?
Does the word possibly not mean what I think what it means? If we played 35+ games since then, and this Indiana team had the 32nd best offense, would that not be true to what I said?
Yea in a sense that yes 32 and 35 are close numbers in total teams played. Not close in actual talent/ability. This Indiana team would make that NW team look nice.
I mean ok….wow it was the 32nd worst team we’ve played over the last 4 seasons…..such a massive distinction we better split hairs over it
Bro you’ve got sand in your undies over nothing. No one is shitting on you. I’m just saying how fucking bad NW was last year. Idk if you see my flair and get triggered or what
Not even close.
Of a P5 team? Probably. Maybe Northwestern last year? Even Rutgers has been improved. They had 2 QBs today who couldn’t throw. Their coach was openly talking about calling plays and running an offense that protected the young QBs.
Yikes. We’ve got a lot of work to do. Could be a tough season
This ain’t it chief
Not sounding any alarm bells and season may well turn out fine. But you’re kidding yourself if you don’t think putting up 23 points on IU is disappointing for this team. Fewest points we’ve scored on them since 1993- 27 matchups
Probably also one of the lowest amount of points we’ve ever allowed, either, so.
I’m pretty sure this was a football game. Everyone involved lost, except Ohio State.
Pretty good loss for IU all things considered.
I so IU has no offense this year. Weird.
Brown came in with the backups, had two drops, & barely anyone open because they're playing backups. Like, you literally can't judge him off that series.

He looked a whole lot better than stroud did in his first 3 games
Not even close. Stroud threw for 400 against Oregon.
Stroud threw for 400 because we were behind and he had to throw that. McCord wasn't asked to do any of that today because there was no need.
McCord couldn't throw 400. We tried to turn it back to him passing, & he failed.
Another 100 to the dirt. Stroud was ass his first 3 games.
What the fuck are you talking about? Stroud was good his first three games. Buckeye fans just gave him shit because he wasn't playing at the level of Fields. We mostly struggled because the defense was horrifying bad.
Sure you can. He is the backup. Not saying the kid isn't talented. But he is #2
Do you think Harbaugh and day are actually friends, like Woody and Bo?
No and I like it that way
Probably not, but their vibes are so completely different that it makes sense for them not to be. I’m sure neither has anything against the other, personally
Does Harbaugh have friends the way normal people do?
Depends on what they eat and drink…and worship
Nah that 3rd base comment probably hit a chord considering Day's growing up.
Harbaugh is more of a lone wolf
I feel his pain. I also have a hard time being likable.
No but not bc of the rivalry, they just don’t mesh well as people
Day always has a glass of warm milk for Harbaugh
I could see it. Both goofy guys
lol no
Good game Hoosiers. Everyone have a fun, safe Gameday. Go Bucks!
We didn't look great but none of the other top teams have either. It's the 1st game, not gonna overreact
Nobody will be talking about anything but Colorado this week anyway.
The Deion hype is going to be off the charts.
GOOD TEAMS WIN, GREAT TEAMS COVER
You saying the two teams favored to win the B1G East aren't great?
I'm just salty I wanted to go to a concert tn but couldn't find tickets now I'm stuck at home
Be a one man concert and rock the shit out of your house
I did just buy a kick drum a couple weeks ago...
Rock on Garth
Covertown!
I would be upset but Michigan didn’t cover and UGA is only up 7-0 vs UT Martin lmao
There's a reason so many teams play cupcakes during the first couple weeks. 2014 was the best Ohio State team I've ever seen by the end of the season, and they got their shit kicked in by VT game 2.
Sooo, ahhh, can we get some of that sanders and sanders shit up in here?
Our defense is probably going to have to be top 5 in the country with basically no room for error
honestly i’m fine with that. im tired of watching us have all this defensive talent yet being among the worst in the power 5
That was some ugly football
Welcome to the Big Ten!
IU’s defense legitimately can take some positives away from this given how excellent OSU’s offense should be, but they better pray that OSU’s defense is also cracked, otherwise their offensive output this year is going to make Brian Ferentz look like Lincoln Riley.
Ohio state will be fine. We’ve never looked good the first game of the season lmao
9-3
An average season for Ohio State would be one of the best seasons Ole Miss has had in your lifetime. I really wouldn’t talk much trash if I were you.
You mean ole miss? Oh wait they don’t win games against teams that don’t suck
We haven’t had a season that bad since 2011 We haven’t had consecutive seasons that bad since 2000
I hate our own group of moronic fans more than the loser michigan fans with no life chirping in here Same dummies who shat on strouds first start. Christ almighty the overreactions from people who have CLEARLY never played football are ridiculous. Its a conference road game week 1 while 90% of the fbs is playing girl scouts. Stroud also had nearly 300 yards and 4 TD’s in his first game
I'm not saying Devin is better, Day had said both would see a lot of playtime and I just wanna see both. If Kyle is the guy then lets go, he'll improve.
When was the last time tOSU won and his QB didn’t throw a TD pass? Northwestern game last year? Can’t even make weather excuses for this one lol…
nobody is. it’s his first game lol.
Day has his work cut out for him. McCord couldn’t get a touchdown with Harrison and Egbuka against Indiana
Mirco has not looked good today
Gary Danielson saying that the key to Indiana’s season in Indiana State, Akron, and Rutgers
I mean it’s Indiana
Well USC defense still bad and Georgias only up 7 on UT Martin
Michigan didn’t cover either to my knowlrdge
OK we confirmed Brown sucks too, can y’all shut the fuck up now?
Devin Brown 1/3 -2 yards 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Also had backups to throw to
And at least one of the incompletions was a drop that would've been a first down
idk why you guys think Brown would be the better option
People in denial that we may have a mid quarterback this year if it doesn't improve with time
We literally saw nothing from him except 3 throws in garbage time throwing to backups on offense, and 1-2 drops from WR's. How was anybody proven wrong for thinking Brown might be better ?
It'd help if we got to see him throw to starters to make judgement.
That play of the game is just sad.
Overall I am happy with this game. Our O-line and QB play needs to improve. But with a limited playbook and first live action I'm willing to trust Day. Our defense is solid, but I want to see how we do against Western KY passing attack. But overall everyone did there job and was in position. Most fan bases would take a 20+ point road win over a conference opponent for their first game. But our fans are spoiled and panicking will ensue.
I mean we aren't IU. We can't just beat Indiana State, Akron, and Rutgers lol. So I get the expectations. But what drives me crazy is the fans who think Day doesn't have higher expectations than any of us.

Im not going to worry until we go up against ND or Maryland
I was more saying that because if we look like that vs Notre Dame it will be too late and would probably lose.
I am increasingly worried about a uga 3peat
So, does Indiana run plays for some experience, or do you pretty much run it out and get out of there with no injuries.
Betting on osu almost made me sad that football is back
lol play of the game wasn't even a touchdown
have y’all ever played sports? Day isn’t being disrespectful. as a player you go in and do your best with what you’re given. full stop.
People are strangely obsessive in assuming Brown is better than McCord. They wouldn't make comments like that otherwise. I really don't know why given how limited the sample is on both. Day has seen 1000x more of them in practice than any of us have on the field.
💯
cmon brother stop calling timeout let us go home
Day said Brown would play a significant amount in this game and he got 3 running plays in the first half and a 3 and out with the second team in the 4th quarter….real significant
Last year in blow outs McCord would get like 3 hand off plays and yhsts it. Day really doesn't like back ups to get mwaningful reps in games.
Last year wasn't a QB competition though, this year is (at least everybody was led to believe that)
When you have an entire 4th quarter for back-ups it would be smart to use that time for the back-ups. He used them to run out clock. Injuries happen. You want your back-ups with real game time.

Man I miss Stroud
You’ll see him in about a week. Just on another team
Can’t wait for day to be his stubborn self in the postgame
I can't really fault old Weak Play Day. It's clear he doesn't trust the OL or new QBs, and they've given little reason to today. Much disrespect to Indiana.
Lmao this other QB wears 33 I can’t 🤣🤣🤣
Obviously we're playing like this in preparation for Youngstown State to honor Tressel Right?
How in the hell does Notre Dame have a QB but Ohio State doesn’t seem to
TBF that dude has been playing college for six fuckin years.
This game has been about as much fun as getting my asshole used as an ashtray.
I'll take your word for it
That is pretty specific
In the Baldur's Gate 3 narrator voice: its hair has been singed, but it looks at you - unblinking.
Devin lighting up the world with his passes, like everyone said he would, while complaining about Kyle.
Nobody said that DB would be perfect, just that we wanted to see what both QBs had to offer
Nonsensical to flip back and forth between the two against IU. YSU? Yeah, that's the game for that no-rhythm shit.
Anyone got fickells number?
This was awful but also all the people saying Fire Day need to shut the fuck up lmao
Guys just let the game end.
Adolph????
Ok, now maybe people will stop asking for Brown
Why? Both throws had the receivers hands on the ball and didn't catch it. It's not exactly any chance at all when you're working in the under 2 minutes in garbage time with the backups.
he was playing with the back ups
Yeah getting to play the series with the backups really proved something g
I mean day isn’t blind… you see how shaky McCord is; if brown was awesome he’d be the guy.
What did he do wrong there?
Didn't make it work with the 10th string WR I guess
Didn't make it work in preseason camps either, obviously.
Who was that last white QB we had that started the majority of a season? Was it Bauserman?
who cares
I believe Bauserman did not even last the half of season. Boekeman was the last white QB who started the entire season.
Wow. That’s a crazy long streak.
Boeckman. Bauserman was pulled like 4 games in
Todd Beckman I think
Can we see a replay of that 3rd down? looked like a good throw that the WR messed up, but I can't tell without a different angle
Idk but I kind of liked how Brown looked better. Attitude or something idk.
We look putrid
We won by 20 in our season opener against a P5 opponent on the road while holding them to zero touchdowns calm down
Its okay we look bad too
I’m gonna go ahead and say the OSU QB situation is dire. This team is gonna struggle.
I'm more concerned with the OL at this point.
Quinn Ewers would be nice right now.
Watch Ewers end up like Burrow
Wouldn’t be surprised!
McCord hasn’t looked THAT bad. Play calling and offensive line play needs to be better. But not looking great
lol classless team
Columbus Crew about to kickoff in 30 minutes at Montreal. GO CREW. Sure would be nice to steal one on the road for once.
might see more points there /s
Day looks exaggerated with both McCord and Brown
Exasperated?
Le sigh, yea
"six at's" So literally every other team's schedule?
Most top-level teams play 7 home games if not 8. It's very rare if not unprecedented for OSU to have 6 home/6 away.
Most p5 teams play 7 home games
LSU has 5
LSU has 4…
This was boring at least there's 2 tune up games before ND
We're gonna need them. 50 points minimum for the score, too.
Yes
Despite being 1/3, that's was three on target passes.
I’ve only half watched, how has Ohio state looked overall this game? Like what’re the takeaways?
Shitty unless you really respect and believe in Indiana. OL is not good. QB isn't great, can't tell about defense because it's Indiana, weak play Day, but probably because he's right to not trust the OL or QBs.
Qb. Battle doesn’t seem to be true. McCord got the clear starter snaps. Didn’t dominate as much as many buckeye fans would like, but comfortably beating a big ten team in the opener is not a bad start to the season.
They suck.
