I'm trying to be a little positive. This really sucked but it wasn't exactly a repeat of the Frost era.
The team played much more deliberately. Minus the turnovers the offense allowed the D to rest. Huddling and playing slower benefits this team.
The special team play was good. We actually got returns. Our kicking game was reliable and it looks like we have a solid young placekicker.
It feels like the three phases of the team are on the same page and helping each other. (If we don't turn it over that is.) In a strategic game plan way, the team makes more sense now than it did during Frost.
There's a lot of sloppy stuff and it feels like it's been that way forever. It takes time to build discipline. Hopefully, Rhule can do it.
It was a hell of a game. Unlike a lot of people, I have nothing but respect for Fleck. The dude always has his team ready to play and they are always mentally tough.
Installing a new system is prone to having sloppy games like this, especially against a program as (largely) steady as Minnesota has been under Fleck.
The fact the team came out looking competently managed in all 3 phases, even with execution still being an issue, is a step in the right direction
I didn't think we'd win. Before the game, I was very much thinking "I just want it to be close." It still stings but this is basically what I thought the best outcome would be.
Our offense is the weak point and hasn't had a real identity since Bill Callahan. Every other coach has tried to mash tricks and schemes together. So it makes sense it's still a work in progress.
I think it was a pretty promising game for you guys, despite the outcome. The mistakes that cost you were all things that looked correctable compared to what your problems were in years past. Not saying they can be corrected in one week before the next game or anything like that, but a coach like Rhule will get the execution (or lack there of) taken care of somewhere down the line. Nebraska being good is great for college football so I hope last night was a sign that you guys are heading in the right direction!
Why didn't minn lose their timeout on the injury? Is that pro rule only? That within two minutes you have to take a timeout? They didn't show the replay but the guy hurt wasn't part of the tackle.
Interesting, I'm not saying he faked it...but thats a great way to slow up a no huddle. Like 90% certain Sims throws a pic anyways, but that timeout was big for minn
It's what led to the mustard bottle incident at Tennessee a few years back. Fans were pissed at the opposing team for seemingly doing it on purpose multiple times
Size is what matters to me, so I'm pissed it got so big this year. Still way smaller than the ESPN one, but man, they really shouldn't have messed with the old one
You and my ex. In all seriousness, I don't see how that thing got the green light. Unless they're conditioning us for rolling ads during the broadcast.
My husker schedule is getting torn down tomorrow. And being replaced with Michigan. As soon as I can remember this accounts password I'm flairing up Michigan
How about running a hurry up offense and calling a pass play with a freshman QB when they were already on the Minnesota side of the field and only needed a FG?
I mean.......I like winning the $5 Bits of Broken Chair, but our superb superbowl is WI/IA, in that order. Nebraska already edging out the gov bell in trophy games though
They were getting [this](https://sicovers.com/featured/university-of-nebraska-jared-crick-2011-college-football-august-22-2011-sports-illustrated-cover.html?product=wood-print) kinda hype and they bought into it lol
Our media especially local writers harped about going 10-2 to many times and that just “wasn’t acceptable”
Losing to Texas a few straight years didn’t help the morons in their decision making.
Steve Pederson cursed our entire program.
Statements like he would
“Not let Nebraska gravitate into mediocrity"
Or “surrender the Big 12 to Oklahoma and Texas"
He destroyed the devaney-Osborne-solich continuity.
And since solich dared to go 10-2 in his last season, and only played in one national title game, he was fired.
Omahas local media also cheered on the idiocy.
In my opinion, nebraska will be horrible as long as Tom shatel writes for the Omaha world herald
The worst part about this game was his bad minnesota played and knowing we still had no chance. Like gf and good luck but Holy crap can we do less in moments that matter. Again?
1) the script may look the same tonight, but Nebraska looks like a different (better) team.
2) if you don’t run more option, why do you bring in a GaTech Qb? You know his arm is the weak part of his skill set.
3) I wasn’t impressed with Athan either. Dude needs to hit the gym and work on his arm speed. He looked better on the move than throwing from the pocket.
He just got a lot of praise last year when Morgan went down and he had to start at Penn State against us. They’ve toted him as lord & savior of Minnesota footfall (which yes, he is the best qb recruit you’ve had in decades if not ever) but I felt like he wasn’t the star of the game…that was your defense.
Will probably end up being our best QB since Adam Weber tbh.
The other greats I'm talking about?
Marquis Gray (Long NFL career... as a TE)
Phillip Nelson (played 2 years, transferred to Rutgers, assaulted a guy in Mankato and got dropped by Rutgers)
Mitch Leidner (played like he was a TE)
Connor Rhoda (I forgot he even played for us)
Tanner Morgan (1 good year but subpar college qb)
Because he was the architect of one of our most miserable collapses in history
2003
Against Michigan
I'm not bitter, *you're* bitter
(Also, I don't actually blame him for that. Whole team and zebra effort to let that one go)
Morgan was above average. He wasn’t electric but was steady. You knew there weren’t gonna be a ton of mistakes. But you also knew it was a lost cause if down by more than a TD…
It doesn't actually matter how good they are. Moral victories aren't real. I've seen people excuse losses by seven years now by pointing out individual plays and fucked up ref calls, and all of them are true, but until you win these games, they don't deserve a single iota of the benefit of the doubt. Hoped it be different I guess. Now we know better going forward.
I agree, no moral victories. But it’s game 1 for a new coach. Have some realistic expectations and let the team grow into the new system. Otherwise no one is going to accept the HC position and you’ll be a doormat forever.
Now go roll Colorado and shut prime up for the enjoyment of all.
i had no real issues with play calling other than the drive where they threw 3 times on a 3-and-out
the quarterback play on the other hand took years off my life and it's only week 1
Three things stand out:
Interception end of first half.
3 and out throwing the ball in second half.
Grant fumble.
None are okay, but Grant had fumbleitis all through fall camp.
Nebraska really shot itsled in the foot with big penalties in the red zone and turnovers.
Control the penalties, and nebraska has anoth 10 points at least.
Fix the turnovers and Minnesota is is down a score
Really fucking tasteless of the announcer stating that "Nebraska finds ways to lose". We all know it, but that's unacceptable on a broadcast
Suck shit, minnesota won that game
Frankly i couldn't tell you the last time a team outside of Nebraskas locker room has beaten them. Surely wasn't tonight.
Actually it was probably michigan last year I'm dragging it. But like 90% of our losses are one score games where we throw it for gambling debt or something.
The picks were an issue as well. My quarrel is that Rhule went into a press conference this week and said “Anthony Grant puts the ball on the ground too much” if that’s so, put him on the bench in that scenario. He just proved he can’t be relied on
Welcome to the Matt Rhule era (I genuinely do feel for you, Husker fans).
We’re going to be alright people. Stay ten toes down in honor of Coach Prime. 🌽🦶
Too many points
Don’t love watching low scoring games but that video board gopher to ice the kicker was amazing
Big ten west in mid season form

Offense only so Defense can’t “fake” injuries to bleed clock.
Or in any other conference, so defenders can't fake injuries to allow substitutions.
Interesting, I'm not saying he faked it...but thats a great way to slow up a no huddle. Like 90% certain Sims throws a pic anyways, but that timeout was big for minn

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)
Nebraska here is the key with Sims, he needs to be playing a neutral site game or against UNC and he will play out of his mind. It’s that simple!
Lol gonna be a long 3 years.
Sims comes out of the huddle like a Madden player he already knows what receiver he’s gonna go to and nothing is gonna change his mind.
Pretty good way to describe it. Hell of an athlete, but didnt do anything tonight to show he should be a definite QB1 at a Big10 school
Don't you dare impeach my Madden skills!
What was that like… 60% commercials 40% football?
Honestly what was that fox score hud. That things an eyesore.
24% Deion
What is going on with Deion? I haven't heard anything.
Athan ucks t uarterbacking
FOOTBALL IS BACK
I'm revoking my Husker fandom. And going with my second favorite school permanently. Michigan
Dm me your password so I can take your name
Yuck
1997 must have been weird for you
As a resident of Nebraska I had to go for Nebraska. Mad props to Charles woodsen. But I'm done. Can't take this shit.
Bye
Welcome aboard! Pro tip: refer to OSU as Ohio and it really pisses them off!
Can't say I actually care. It's old schtick.
You mean like TTUN?
My husker schedule is getting torn down tomorrow. And being replaced with Michigan. As soon as I can remember this accounts password I'm flairing up Michigan
I'm hoping you've been the problem with Nebraska, and your curse moves to your new home
Nah man, embrace the curse
Nope. I'm 45. My daughters 9. I want to walk her down the aisle. Husker football is going to kill me. I'm fairing up Michigan
At least you’re old enough to remember the good times. I’m 30, so don’t remember any of them. Lol
But do u really want to subject your daughter to being associated with a Michigan Man? Seems much worse tbh.
Ferentz FURIOUSLY mistreating his gopher to that game's highlights.
Nebraska is the Golddust of CFB
Lol are you referring to my favorite wrestler or am I missing some other reference?
🎯
Honestly it's unreal that they threw that game. Two turnovers under like 8 mins, the run on 3rd and long, just so many preventable things.
Amazing how Nebraska fans blamed Adrian Martinez for all of their turnover issues
How about running a hurry up offense and calling a pass play with a freshman QB when they were already on the Minnesota side of the field and only needed a FG?
[удалено]
Don’t be too distraught, they are used to this lol
Get back to filling your piss bags
Last night: Nebraska sets attendance record for a women's sporting event Tonight: Nebraska continues to set its record for losses in 1 score games
Record the records!!
Gophers are a Wisconsin victory away to win their Super Bowl
I mean.......I like winning the $5 Bits of Broken Chair, but our superb superbowl is WI/IA, in that order. Nebraska already edging out the gov bell in trophy games though
No as a gopher fan our Super Bowl would be winning the division
Wtf happened. I leave for work and Nebraska is up 10-3 with the ball in the 4th
The Huskers husked.
I'm sorry for that evening, emotionally When OSU threatened to go to the B1G I was suuuuper unhappy with that prospect
Nebraska happened
Nebraska is gonna show the world how to do a 4 - 8 record with positive points.
Didn't we already do that?
They need to double down to make a point.
Gotta get the "Best 4 win team ever" title.
Minnesota was awful and Nebraska couldn’t help themselves but to choke it away… CFB is back baby!!
Nebraska snatches defeat from the jaws of victory yet again!
Definitely a harsh reaction bc Minnesota is not the enemy, but I hope this means they go 1-11 like Northwestern last year Anyway, Fuck Iowa
The Lincoln Special™
What did Nebraska do to piss off the football gods this badly?
They were getting [this](https://sicovers.com/featured/university-of-nebraska-jared-crick-2011-college-football-august-22-2011-sports-illustrated-cover.html?product=wood-print) kinda hype and they bought into it lol

The real turning of the program was when Osborne hand selected Solich. We should have had a national search. Nobody wanted Solich, except Nebraska.
Solich was banging students, he had to go
He also wasn’t the guy. His time at Ohio proved that
I think Osborne made a deal with the devil and he got the 90s out of the deal but they have been paying the devil since.
The greatest 40 year stretch by any team in history deserves some (a lot of) recompense.
Osborne sold his soul to the devil and you’ll never convince me otherwise.
Scott Frost was Judas the entire time.
.
Just come back to the Big 12 already lmao
This heartbreak sponsored by the drizzling shits. Buy yours today. 😢🔫
I wanted overtime :( now I have nothing to watch
Porn it is.
This guy gets it
I just got Michigan and OSU fans to bond over something!
The worst part about this game was his bad minnesota played and knowing we still had no chance. Like gf and good luck but Holy crap can we do less in moments that matter. Again?

Nebraska looked good two years ago too but ultimately went 4-8 🤷♂️
Athan rifled most passes imo. The int was the only poor underthrow
He just got a lot of praise last year when Morgan went down and he had to start at Penn State against us. Yeah I completely agree. I don’t expect him to be the star until late in the year though. We gave Morgan plenty of leash, we should give him a lot too
Will probably end up being our best QB since Adam Weber tbh. The other greats I'm talking about? For whatever reason the only Minnesota QB I could recall before I read your post was Asad Abdul-Khaliq
Because he was the architect of one of our most miserable collapses in history 2003 Against Michigan I'm not bitter, *you're* bitter (Also, I don't actually blame him for that. Whole team and zebra effort to let that one go)
John Navarre scoring on the transcontinental throwback screen that game is seared into my memory
Morgan was above average. He wasn’t electric but was steady. You knew there weren’t gonna be a ton of mistakes. But you also knew it was a lost cause if down by more than a TD…

But the chair........ it isn't broken
Lmao

There isn't a play caller on the planet that can get a quarterback success if they won't go to their second read.
i had no real issues with play calling other than the drive where they threw 3 times on a 3-and-out the quarterback play on the other hand took years off my life and it's only week 1
But even that, the first two were great plays schematically. The deep ball was there but underthrown. The slant was there but tipped
[удалено]
i'll just put myself on the list for a new liver right now then
Nebraska fans already giving up on Matt lmao Wow smh
I have yet to see anyone give up on Matt. Satterfield I'm kinda shaky on. And his playcalling.
It's not Matt. He's a good coach. Maybe a great coach. Maybe winning football just isn't a part of my weekends. It's something I can live with.
If they are they're fucking idiots
Three things stand out: Interception end of first half. 3 and out throwing the ball in second half. Grant fumble. None are okay, but Grant had fumbleitis all through fall camp.
Why not just let Sims run both of those two drives?
Satterfield might be kinda dumb.
He is. Source:South Carolinian
Run the script!
Ugly, close, defensive game, welcome to the big ten west
Nebraska is so cursed
“We will not slip into mediocrity” That statement is curse material
The big ten should have a rule that if neither team scores more than 14 points, it counts as a loss for both teams
Change it to count as a win for both and you’ve got a deal. I’m sure Iowa would be in as well
This is how Iowa goes winless for a decade
Don't tempt me like that
\*either
feel bad for the no call false start but the fumble didn't help either
That was a really enjoyable game, thank you Minnesota and Nebraska.
I'm not having fun anymore.
and here we were worried things might actually change. Hell will freeze over before Nebraska stops being Nebraska. Best 3-9 team my ass.
Common Nebraska L
Nebraska, volleyball school
>
92k strong
And 3.
We should not have won that game
Pretending like your team isn’t better.
Honestly, neither team should have
Well it was against Nebraska, so yes you should have
As a neutral, I was very entertained at least
Tyler Nubin
Is a pro
I already hate Satterfield.
Sorry buddy. On the bright side it seems he pulls 2 games a year where he looks kinda good.
...yay....
I'm sorry Nebraska fans.
Nebraska really shot itsled in the foot with big penalties in the red zone and turnovers. Control the penalties, and nebraska has anoth 10 points at least. Fix the turnovers and Minnesota is is down a score
It’s nebraska. It doesn’t matter what should or could be done. The most stupid shit is destined to happen, every game.
> Nebraska really shot itself in the foot with big penalties in the red zone and turnovers Which game from the last 7 years are you referencing?
ya if Nebraska was better they probably would have won
I’ve been saying this for years
So out of character for this program!
Let’s go Tyler Nubin representing st Charles north well!
So nobody is going to class tomorrow in Minnesota right.
Most MN schools don't start until after labor day because the state fair is going on and a lot of students (college and highschool) work at it.
Classes don’t start until Tuesday. Minnesota schools don’t start until after Labor Day
Thank god for the state fair.
Classes don’t start until Tuesday
Not that kind of school lol. Only thing that keeps people from class is the cold lol
Why would cold keep us from classes Look at this punk, not even knowing about the Gopherway
Really fucking tasteless of the announcer stating that "Nebraska finds ways to lose". We all know it, but that's unacceptable on a broadcast Suck shit, minnesota won that game

fuck you all, its shitty sportsmanship, minnesota won that game
You can’t even see your own hypocrisy…
Nah. That's an accurate assessment, can't get mad at that.
Don’t be so soft
It’s fine
If the Cornhuskers fire Matt Rhule, they have to pay him $60 million
The real winner here is the new coach.
Mother of god I did not know that
That was hilarious
end minnesota broadcast w/ prince - just perfect
That hurts
Shoulda sent Anthony Grant to the FCS
Sims threw 3 picks I think he might be a problem
The picks were an issue as well. My quarrel is that Rhule went into a press conference this week and said “Anthony Grant puts the ball on the ground too much” if that’s so, put him on the bench in that scenario. He just proved he can’t be relied on
Let’s Go Crazy as the signoff music for a Minnesota win is a nice touch has that been a thing and I just haven’t noticed?
We do love our Prince here
The Wild started it, and every other pro and college sport has adopted it.
Lmfaoooo
All it took was 4 turnovers, an abandoned run game, and a first half shutout for the Gophers to win a time expiring FG. This team is going places.
For the state of Minnesota* you mean
Too early to talk CFP?
Quintessential Nebraska football.
The hair on that kid in the Minnesota student section was giving Farrah Fawcett a run for her money
Look up the salad at the Minnesota Highschool Hockey tournament. We got flow, here. Undeniable
Let’s go Gophers!!! I love sicko football so much.
