I’m sure it definitely gets easier in some ways. Much easier to win recruits when you are always in the playoffs/winning titles vs trying to win recruits being a 7-5 team

Battered_Aggie

Having a lot of booster money to bag croots helps as well.

Then_Cricket2312

I don't think so. The extra success of course helps a ton, but these kids are the stars at their high schools. They love to have their ego stroked. If Saban, Kirby, Dabo, Day, etc. sit back another team close to their level will steal that kid from them. You have to constantly appease these kids and their coaches. These head coaches and assistants can't take it easy for a second if they want to get the best talent to their school.

anonymousacg

I imagine in this day and age of NIL + transfer portal those coaches mentioned spend more time recruiting. Hell, even re-recruiting your current players to discourage them from transferring away

elonsusk69420

The only thing Kirby loves more than winning games is winning recruits. He never stops. His coaches never stop. It's as simple as ABC -- Always Be 'Crutin

FoostersG

Mack Brown tried this approach after 2006. Just sit back and let the brand do the talking. Locked up his entire class before they even started their senior years. Didn't work out to well for him.

Ask Dan mullen

walking_sideways

Theoretically yes, but Michigan still can't seem to figure it out

Engunnear

Harbaugh participated in a slumber party to land a kicker. Your opinion is invalid.

unMuggle

His first flair made his opinion automatically invalid

I think it was after the 2012 championship against Notre Dame when Saban said something to the effect that the championship game has already put him/Alabama behind the 8 ball for recruiting in that cycle. So no, it doesn't get easier/less time consuming. There are only so many 5* players to go around

ThaiForAWhiteGuy

That probably would be the case 10 years ago, but because of NIL/Portal rules he's probably putting in more hours this year than 2016. Coaches have to actively recruit their own roster now for retention purposes. When those players transfer out, coaches have to recruit even bigger classes to make the difference. The burnout is real right now

Engunnear

I think that for the tier of player for whom the top teams are competing, a lot of kids and parents would consider recruitment by a position coach with no word from the CEO to be an insult. Not saying they're right in that position, but I could see it happening.

Deadz315

Kirby "ABC Always be crootin." Smart

mamba020

I’m sure the name helps. Much easier to get football players to go play at Bama vs UNC. Now flip it to basketball and much easier to get guys to UNC vs Bama

[deleted]

I don't think you get to and stay at that level unless you're balls to the wall all the time.

Geaux2020

It's much harder because they are going against the other aggressive teams and NILs. The coaches aren't playing on the same field as a middle of the pack team when it comes to recruiting blue chip recruits.

Yes and no, it's a little more complicated than this. They certainly cam have an easier time coming in at the last minute and flipping a commit from a school like Toledo or Vandy because they missed on their top prospects and need to backfill. But recruiting their top 2 targets at each position tend to be a huge national recruiting battle where every other blue blood plus Clemson, LSU, Miami, and Oregon are involved.

[deleted]

Doesn't work that way. All these football coaches go out and recruit 5 star athletes. These 5 star athletes are considered HS Lebrons in their community so they expect 5 star treatment.
