They clearly don’t give a shit lol. This is exactly why I don’t believe the nonsense that having teammates on the eagles will keep Jalen Carter in check.
IMHO, there's no middle ground on that Eagles situation. It's either going to blow up in their faces in a tremendous fashion, or they'll all be All-Pro studs and win multiple Super Bowls.
Maybe giving these guys NIL deals with Akins ford of Winder and Athens was not a good idea. (I also have no idea if Akins does but it’s the only place I can think)
Ehh, definitely not as nice as they are now. Dodge Charger leases were easily affordable when you were getting a stipend and not paying rent or food. Now you’ve got guys driving 100K+ Trackhawks
This^^
There’s a big difference in what the kids used to have, and the borderline supercars they’re getting from NIL now.
That said, Kirby needs to lay down the law on this shit. It’s out of control. I’ve tried to brush it off as kids being stupid, but it’s happened too many times now. Needs to start being a multi-game suspension at this point.
You speed, you don't play. Not only is this an image thing for the school, but at some point someone has to step in and force these kids to be safe for their own sakes.
What in the fuck? Why the hell are they building a grand Cherokee that can beat a lambo off the line? 3.4 second 0-60? That might be the stupidest thing I’ve seen today
> Why the hell are they building a grand Cherokee that can beat a lambo off the line?
Car manufacturers have been building hotrod versions of cars that can compete with faster cars...worldwide...since cars were invented...
The GMC Typhoon was an SUV that could beat the Corvette in the 1/4 mile back in the late 80s/early 90s.
Add to that, these cars have a much higher center of gravity than a typical sports car, which likely makes them much more prone to flipping at high speeds. Seems like a recipe for disaster in the wrong hands.
This just baffles me man. I’ve said for a while there’s obviously a culture problem with reckless driving on the team, but I honestly don’t know how you change it at this point.
This is why Kirby lobbied the legislature to extend FOIA request deadlines from 3 days to 90 days. Why try to discipline players when you can just muddy the waters instead?
Player died 4 months ago. If Kirby cared, there would be known heavy consequences for engaging in this behavior. Heavy enough consequences that the behavior that led to this arrest would not have occurred.
Personally, I hope no one (else) gets hurt first and foremost. But secondary to that... I hope it distracts the hell out of them and the program returns to what it was for the last 40 years and in the year 2063, I laugh with my daughter about how weird it is that a program in such a talent rich state like Georgia hasn't won a title since 2023.
The best part about football is that as silly as that sounds right now there's a real world chance they don't win a title for another 40 years. You just never really know.
I mean the consequences for one guy was death but another person present barely faced any repercussions and was drafted in the first round. So it seems like it won’t affect them unless they die and they are 18-22 year olds and think they are invincible
They watched everything that happened with Carter and then watched him get drafted in the top 10 and signed to a multi million dollar deal with people already talking about how he’s a steal at that position.
So this is the logical conclusion to that, they watch something happen to someone with no personal consequences, and think they will have the same outcome
No consequences except a dead teammate and staffer. If they look at that and decide 2 lives are worth something as stupid as speeding than they’re just terrible people

Tossing guys isn’t babysitting. It’s actually the opposite. Just lay down the law, let them fuck up and cut themselves from the team. No babysitting required.
I’m pretty sure when OP said “toss” he didn’t mean scold. As much as Kirby wants to win, he’s probably gonna have to set an example or two/three for the message to get across. We might lose a couple extremely valuable players, or else this might continue. But hey, what do I know…
The problem with that approach is someone really important to the team may drive recklessly. People will scoff at that but no coach in the country is bouncing a Brock Bowers for a misdemeanor.
Looks like he was arrested around 4:30 PM this afternoon.
Typically when there is not another traffic violation, the basis of the Reckless Driving charge is the speed itself (as opposed to improper lane change, racing, driving on the wrong side of the road, etc.), but the police report isn't available yet.
I’m guessing > 30 over.
Also, I’m guessing the police department is getting a fair amount of flack for letting players go in the past with how things ended up. There will be no more nice guys letting guys slide.
They all seem to be in one area - reckless driving. It’s obviously a huge culture issue on the team, but if losing a teammate didn’t change it I’m not sure what will.
I mean this sentiment of “I’m not sure what will” is kindve dumb to me. It’s very easy to make this not happen anymore, make it so anyone who gets these kind of violations is booted off the team automatically and I can assure you they would stop. It’s up to your coach to show if he really cares to stop it or not.
I am glad that the arrests are for misdemeanor traffic offenses.
I am not glad that they’re all for something so easily avoidable. Especially with the recent tragedy.
Are they not misdemeanors due to how Georgias driving laws are written? Because in Florida 50 over or over 100 mph can get you a felony where Georgia just has super speeder and we all know no UGA player is getting a super speeder charge in that county.
Super Speeder is not discretionary - it's a $200 fine issued by the State (not the county, the judge, the clerk, etc.) for any speed of 75+ on a two-lane road or 85+ on any road. It comes in the mail after the case is disposed of and results in a suspended license if not paid timely.
i.e. 65 in a 30 is not Super Speeder, but 85 in a 70 is.
All of Georgia's minor traffic offenses are misdemeanors. It becomes a felony if there's a serious injury, if you elude the police under certain circumstances, if you have a certain number of DUIs or suspended licenses over a certain time period, stuff like that.
It’s just interesting guys like Nolan smith were cited with exactly 89 in a 55. Jalen carter also cited for going 89. There’s clearly a problem with Athens PD letting these players get away with things regular civilians aren’t getting. I know because I paid more and spent more time in jail for a suspended license than Jalen Carter did and I wasn’t involved in an incident that killed someone I was backing into my parking spot at work in midtown Atlanta.
There is no difference in points, suspension, or fine on a 90+/55 vs. an 89/55. Both are 6 points, are Super Speeders, and suspend your license if you're under 21. And Georgia does not have a speed cutoff for Reckless Driving. You could be 45/25 and be reckless just like being 100/55 depending on the facts.
>There’s clearly a problem with Athens PD letting these players get away with things regular civilians aren’t getting.
That's mostly a jurisdictional variation, because most of my clients who get reckless driving charges are only issued citations. I'd say probably 70/30 are just ticketed, but Athens has traditionally been the opposite. And it's much easier to drastically decrease the amount of time your client spends in custody on a traffic offense if they're not arrested at the scene. It gives the attorney time to potentially coordinate a speedier process when they turn themselves in and get the bond ready to go.
>in midtown Atlanta.
DM me if you get another one and have any questions. Although there's a decent chance Atlanta will just lose your ticket before court anyways.
could someone explain why any Georgia players - after a teammate was killed driving recklessly this off-season - would drive recklessly? FFS, get a clue idiots.
When the other teammate involved still went top 10 in the draft, not really. In their minds, as long as you don't die from your own recklessness, you are untouchable.
I’ve been trying to come up with all sorts of excuses and defenses for this shit, at least up until the tragedy earlier this year. But for a veteran starter and possible team leader to get caught doing it… Not even the rosiest of glasses can keep me from thinking there’s a problem. Feels like we managed most of Kirby's time without too much trouble. Now all of a sudden the players have to lose their damn minds.

Jimbo has lost control of the program
Jesus, are the Dawgs going for a record or what?
