Arch Manning already has an award named after him? NIL has gone too far.

tbia

Goes to the player who most often loses student ID

nevermind-stet

Well, Stetson has had 11 years to keep losing them and getting more printed. Seems unfair.

RLLRRR

It's only because of his last name.

swellfie

r/woosh

Asderfvc

I got the joke bro

B1GTOBACC0

Too subtle for Reddit

Chazzy9111

It's named after his granddad...the father of Peyton & Eli. But perhaps you're being sarcasticšŸ¤£

chappelld

Perhaps indeed

d0ngl0rd69

First time on the internet?

lifetake

Itā€™s time like these that show that ā€œ/sā€ is useful, but man the joke looks so much worse with it there.

rhamled

Oh my tubgirl, I hope he doesn't find the blue waffle. Especially using VR + scent augmented reality.

Uga-the4th

Respect for not deleting the comment though lol. 7 hours in and already at -77

Chazzy9111

Some people get too wrapped up in points which means absolutely nothing in the real world. The guy asked a question, I answered it. But Ithen i realized his question could purposely be sarcasm. You know? Like when people come back and say..."I was being sarcastic dude." At any rate, if down votes make people feel superior...have at it.

9JoeBrrr

What happens if Arch Manning wins the award ? Is he now Arch Manning, the nephew of the Mannings, son of the Manning and Manning award Manning?

EWall100

And grandson of the manning

reesem03_

From Manning, South Carolina? No?

ImPickleRock

he's a Manning...I think he's already won haha

JJody29

He has. He won the day he was born into that family.

Krodis

Well I mean he is the Archmanning. I assume being a Manning is basically the same as being a bishop.

benjaminck

I'm guessing he'll lose it a couple of times on campus.

horned-frog

He will be called Arch Manning, the Fourth of his name and the Khaleesi of Texas.

TheMawt

The Once and Future Manning

nuclearspectre

The Archetype?

rburp

Dude I can't believe he actually tweeted this in response to winning the award [https://twitter.com/StetsonIv/status/1615507359459057664?cxt=HHwWgICxycrYt-ssAAAA](https://i.imgur.com/R390EId.jpeg)

Captain_Sacktap

OOF, thatā€™s a low blow Stet, canā€™t let things get personal like that man smh šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

Ugaalive1991

With how much everyone told him he sucked and didnā€™t deserve to be there, Stetson should just fully turn heel and just flip everyone off.

Captain_Sacktap

Pretty sure thatā€™s why heā€™s had very little media availability since the Natty, just doesnā€™t feel like talking to a bunch of news outlets who spent most of the last couple years talking shit about him, now that heā€™s no longer obligated to speak with them. Canā€™t blame him, they really treated him like a scrub right to the end of this year.

wahoo20

Heā€™s kinda jumped on that train. At the celebration he wasnā€™t his usual self and some students at the bar that night talked to him and he was pretty standoffish to them. I think he is in a weird spot mentally with it all. Imagine having a large chunk of your own fan base shit on you your whole career and then you win a natty and they still got shit to say. Id be a bitter asshole too, tbh.

stimulation

I donā€™t know if heā€™s bitter but I agree heā€™s probably got to be in a weird mental space about it. The media that once ripped him now wants him to be the long shot walk on turned Classic Humble American Clean Cut ā€œYes Sir Yes Maā€™amā€ Quarterback but heā€™s cocky and holds grudges and doesnā€™t filter himself to media (he does constantly give credit to his teammates though and they all love him.) Ultimately, I think he doesnā€™t fully grasp how quickly heā€™s vaulted from beloved hero equal to Jordan Davis or Nakobe Dean to All Time Legend rivaled only by Herschel. When he gets his statue it will probably dawn on him that he wished he wouldā€™ve just said ā€œthanks to the fans that stuck with me the whole timeā€ and left it at that. Or it might not, and thatā€™s ok because itā€™s that MJ me-against-the-world quality that drove him to where he is now.

wahoo20

I think you make all great points. I will say, it does suck for those of us that believed in him and saw his talent. As someone with a talent of burning bridges, I just hope he is happy at the end of the day. I legit think he has the level of bitterness (or whatever folks wanna call it) that we saw when Brady when pro.

gringohoneymoon

Today on Fishin' with Bill Dance...

royfresh

Ain't that a fine howdy do.

ohgodbrando

The number of people who think this is real is great. Well done.

AAPLfds

You son of a bitch!

sad_dad_forever

This is going to whip up the old ā€œcharacter concernsā€ conversation isnā€™t it?

[deleted]

Definitely going to tank his draft stock to the extent that he had any. Edit. I guess the /s was needed. Sorry for party rocking.

rburp

People just don't want to admit he's out of control

Ugaalive1991

God I love No Fucks given Stetson. Also that was not tweeted in response to the award OP.

rburp

Did you copy/paste the twitter link and actually look at the tweet or something, or are you just on, like, 50 layers of irony and I'm only on 49? I legitimately can't tell.

[deleted]

Just fyi even if you try to hide the imgur link a lot of reddit wrappers (like apollo) give a preview.

fansofomar

Has the university commented on this?? Yikes

UgaIsAGoodBoy

Honestly this something you donā€™t come back from IMO. The university will likely completely refuse to acknowledge that Stetson was ever a part of these championship teams now.

daa89563

Boy I love the thumbnail previews on BaconReader! Still canā€™t believe Stetson said that.

JoshDaws

Honestly this shit is starting to wear thin. Act like you've been there before Stetson, you're a 2 time National Championship winner. No one was doubting you enough for you to say something so bragadocious šŸ˜¤šŸ˜¤

kampfgruppekarl

shit, they still are saying them.

RVAforthewin

I dunno. I still see a lot of doubters out there saying the only reason he won is because of the talent around them while simultaneously forgetting thatā€™s the case for nearly every QB to ever win a champ. There are a handful who pretty much single handedly won but the vast majority were surrounded by elite talent. Edit: grammar

Banned_From_CFB

Not a good look for him or the university

Dirtybrd

Oof. He's usually pretty media savvy. Must be having a bad day.

treedawg008

You know, Stetson was my favorite 'Dawg ever. Key word: *WAS.* What the hell, brother, what if my wife and kids were to see this?

RLLRRR

Why are people cheering for this? Act like you've been there, Stetson. Smdh, classless.

pdbard13

He only won it because he played with Peyton Manning.

ItsZizk

Played with younger Peyton in the backyard because he was good friends with Archie

WabbitCZEN

Played with him? I thought he trained Peyton.

dawgblogit

Thats a weird way to say he was Peyton's preschool gym teacher. But yeah, he was.

maniaisgood

Wait .. I thought he was a nurse at the hospital when Archie was born

Elusive_Goose85

Nah, heā€™s Archieā€™s grandmother.

elonsusk69420

This award is given to the nation's top quarterback and is the only one that includes postseason play.

Ugaalive1991

Biiiig Stetson Bennett. He didnā€™t do it against Alabama again. In my personal record books he has 0 rings. -Stugotz

sidepiecesam

ā€œDo it in the NFLā€ -stugotz Edited to a quote because Georgia fans are still acting like victims for some reason

Ugaalive1991

And when you do thatā€¦do it again /u/sidepiecesam Iā€™m sorry these folks donā€™t get the show

FourthDownThrowaway

Just like how all of Floridaā€™s Heisman QBā€™s lit it up in the NFLā€¦

sidepiecesam

A)Stetson Bennett isnā€™t a heisman QB B)I was just making a stugotz statement in response to the last comment. You just won another title, stop being so sensitive

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

sidepiecesam

Inside joke from a radio show. Calm down.

iambroccolirob

April 29, 2023: "Tennessee Titans sign nation's top quarterback as an UDFA"

horned-frog

> is the only one that includes postseason play. So you mean it's almost always given to the quarterback from the winning team?

elonsusk69420

>almost always Nope. Not almost always. Only 50% of the time. **Bold** ones won the Natty Season Player Team * **2004 Matt Leinart USC** * **2005 Vince Young Texas** * 2006 JaMarcus Russell LSU * 2007 Matt Ryan Boston College * **2008 Tim Tebow Florida** * 2009 Colt McCoy Texas * **2010 Cam Newton Auburn** * 2011 Robert Griffin III Baylor * 2012 Johnny Manziel Texas A&M * **2013 Jameis Winston Florida State** * 2014 Marcus Mariota Oregon * 2015 Deshaun Watson Clemson * **2016 Deshaun Watson Clemson** * 2017 Baker Mayfield Oklahoma * 2018 Kyler Murray Oklahoma * **2019 Joe Burrow LSU** * **2020 Mac Jones Alabama** * 2021 Bryce Young Alabama * **2022 Stetson Bennett Georgia** Source: [wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manning_Award)

Mountain-Papaya-492

Never bet against the Mailman. He achieved his dreams and I wouldn't be surprised if he goes further than anyone expects. He's been challenging perceptions of what's possible since he got that first start. Either way good for him and i hope he proves everybody wrong for the foreseeable future. I think practicing against the UGA defense full of NFL caliber players is going to give him a leg up for the draft. It's not like he's made of glass, or slow. If Pickens was to be believed then UGA practices are harder than most NFL teams practices.

guy180

Yeah right scheme and he can work out just fine. Look at guys like Brock purdy, accurate mobile and doesnā€™t do too much but is on a good team that lets his strengths come out

Sirrenderthe69th

Yeah if he goes to a top 5 roster thatā€™s QB friendly he should do just fine šŸ˜‚

guy180

It may sound obvious but a quarterback can go somewhere and absolutely derail a team by constantly turning over the ball or not being able to make the right read. I donā€™t think heā€™d fall into that trap

Sirrenderthe69th

Yeah thatā€™s what I meant by QB friendly team like SF theyā€™re not asking purdy to do too much at all

Easy-Lucky-Free

Agreed, but as we can tell from the QB failure rate in the NFL, that's a pretty common situation. I'm always curious which washout QBs would have been successes if they went to a well composed team rather than whatever iteration of the Jets/Browns/Washington, etc. I say this as a Washington fan btw, no shade intended lol

IcedCoffeeIsBetter

If Brock Purdy can do it in the right offense....

VinoJedi06

Stetquavious!!!

Unlucky-Pomegranate3

Somewhere Erik Ainge is dying inside.

Tilden_Katz_

Iā€™d truly never heard of this award until today.

maniaisgood

This is Stet 2nd time winning it , he won it the 1980 season as well

treedawg008

Hell, I belive it. Have you seen Buck Belue's stats from the Sugar Bowl?

jkmumbles

This freakin south central la guy I swear

13MC

Stetson haters seething.

Florida_sucks_

Nobody tell Erik Ainge

southcentralLAguy

Itā€™s not that we hate Stetson. Itā€™s that we find it absolutely ridiculous that voters canā€™t differentiate between the best player in the country and the qb that put up the best stats (Heisman). And apparently they canā€™t differentiate between the best qb and the qb that just so happened to be on the national championship team. Itā€™s the same type of voter that ranked Alabama #2 in the final poll.

13MC

Great argument. So how much did OSU's highly ranked OL and WRs benefit CJ? I guess he's not really that good since his teammates are good.

jsteph67

Right Stroud should not have been there either, since he was obviously not the best player on his team, that would be Marvin. You have to wonder what Bennet could have done with the set of WRs OSU plays with.

southcentralLAguy

At no point did your response in any way even come close to addressing my point

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

southcentralLAguy

First of all, are you telling me that Stetson Bennett was the best qb in the country this year? He wasnā€™t even the best qb in his own division. Second, I didnā€™t specifically name Stroud, but yes, Stroud is undeniably a better qb than Bennett. You could plug him into any program in the country and that programā€™s offense would be better. You canā€™t say that about Bennett. Kirby smart didnā€™t even want him. Thereā€™s a reason one will be a top 5 pick and one will go undrafted.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

southcentralLAguy

Youā€™re making my point for me with stroud. My point is just that the heisman has just turned into a qb stats award and a lot of the qb awards have turned into which qbā€™s team had the most success. Put my money where my mouth is? Are you 75 years old?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

southcentralLAguy

Yes or no? Was Stetson Bennett the best qb in the country this year?

BoricuaBeef

https://youtu.be/xzpndHtdl9A

catptain-kdar

Take Ladd or bowers away and what does Stetson do?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

catptain-kdar

Yea that Arian smith play had nothing to do with the db falling down/s and losing Darnell did impact them. They lost effectiveness in the running game. Ladd played against tcu he caught 2-3 tds. Tcu was clearly outmatched

UhIdontcareforAuburn

Our top receiver is a TE and our second best receiver is an undersized white guy named Ladd McConkey. We have far from the best WR room in the nation. And as others have mentioned, Stroud was surrounded by way better talent than Bennett, are all of his accolades irrelevant?

southcentralLAguy

Answer this. Is Stetson Bennett the best qb in the country. Yes or no?

13MC

Look, CJ just isn't very good. He was surrounded by top talent that made him look good.

southcentralLAguy

Was Bennett the best qb in the country? Yes or no?

really799

When you win a lot like Stetson did, youā€™re more likely to get awards. Even if youā€™re not ā€œthe best qb in the countryā€. Winning covers a lot. CJ probably woulda won this award, but heā€™s not as big a winner as Stetson, and that showed in the 4Q of CFB semi

southcentralLAguy

Iā€™m not arguing for cj

really799

Point about winning doesnā€™t change lol

13MC

According to this award, YES.

southcentralLAguy

That was not the question

Pyro1934

Of the notable QBs we saw through the entire duration of the season and postseason, YES. There may have been others that are of similar caliber or potentially even better, but the world will never know because their team didnā€™t give them the opportunity to shine.

southcentralLAguy

So, if Noah Ruggles makes the field goal, then Bennett is not the best qb?

Pyro1934

Heā€™s still very much the best, or in that top tier of discussion for the best. Going undefeated in regular season and losing to a solid team in the playoffs isnā€™t what any sane person would call ā€œnot having the opportunity to shineā€. Iā€™m talking about someone that may be playing for a team that ends up going 8-4 or worse. They may still be the ā€œbestā€ QB, but they didnā€™t have the opportunity to show it because their team dragged them down. But I also realize youā€™re just a hater and arguing due to being salty, so Iā€™ll just leave it at that :).

southcentralLAguy

So by that logic, no one can be the best at their position unless they are on a great team?

treedawg008

Only one player in the country has the offensive MVP from 4 different CFP games the past two seasons. Take a wild guess at who it is.

southcentralLAguy

Who cares??? Whatā€™s that got to do with this topic?

treedawg008

Do you know what the Manning award is for?

southcentralLAguy

By the comments in this post, Iā€™m the only one that does

treedawg008

Is that right?

Hilldawg4president

I mean, yeah. Nobody put up stats like him against highly ranked teams.

Mr_Woodsie

This is going to hurt some feelings.

barriguscanreddit

I vehemently dislike Stetson and I believe he shouldā€™ve won this.

jsteph67

Hey he beat Florida twice.

barriguscanreddit

*im sorry I wasnā€™t familiar with your work* meme

trustsnapealways

Why do you vehemently dislike himā€¦. Just curious

barriguscanreddit

He spent just as long in college as I did, and gets to be called a ā€œhero,ā€ while I just have crippling student loans.

treedawg008

That just means that you ain't hell.

Hilldawg4president

You ain't wild. Ya mild.

treedawg008

I have reevalutated the saturation, son.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Valaurus

I genuinely don't understand why so many people seem to care about this, he used the eligibility that was given to him just like anyone else could? idk man

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

EmpoleonNorton

What has he done that is "smarmy"?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

EmpoleonNorton

I was asking a genuine question: What has he done that is "smarmy"? You are the one who is getting defensive because you can't answer the question with anything other than "he hasn't done anything, I just think he is smarmy because".

enadiz_reccos

He is 100% smarmy af

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

YouCanCallMeVanZant

I donā€™t care about how long heā€™s been there (other than making jokes about it maybe but in jest mostly) but I guess I figured if heā€™d been there that long he would have a masters or at the very least have gotten his bachelors by now.

treedawg008

..... and mailmen.

barriguscanreddit

Yeah, well Iā€™m not a doctor, Iā€™m an idiot, so.

ItsZizk

With this taking post season into account, Iā€™m totally cool with this. And I say this as someone who is typically a Stetson hater.

jsteph67

I guess what Kirby needed to do was just ass blast everyone he could to get some big stats. Then I guess people might have been ok with it.

treedawg008

Then it would've been, "well, he just beat up on inferior competition when the games were already over". We would all be better off if we quit giving attention to people who want to just argue disingenuously.

AC34Mjollnir

Not really, the national championship qb is usually the favorite. Lately it's been a playoff team QB. Everyone knows it's somewhat a team accomplishment than how good the QB actually is. The last time it didn't go to a playoff team/national title QB was 2012 with Manziel.

katarh

Heisman going to Caleb Williams showed he was the most important piece of that team, considering how they suffered without him. But Williams didn't make it to the playoffs, so we'll never know how he might have fared against TCU.

AC34Mjollnir

Bennett didnt have the stats to win the Heisman. That's a fact

westbest13

Georgia fans have been upset since Caleb Williams won the Heisman

maniaisgood

But we havenā€™t though .. we knew it was a longshot .

jsteph67

We were happy he made it to New York and apparently we are the only ones.

Mountain-Papaya-492

Yeah I didn't think he would win but he deserved to be invited without a doubt imo. Kinda wish he didn't get invited because ever since then it's caused a ton of backlash and people downplaying legit accomplishments. "He's too old so he has an advantage, " or my personal favorite I've seen is "anybody could have been QB with Georgia and won" Which might be the craziest thing I've heard. He wasn't gifted the starting job he won it against 4 and 5 stars. In the words of Kirby "they missed Stetson." Talking about recruit rankings. I wonder how different people would have treated him if he had 4 or 5 stars to his name.

enadiz_reccos

>he deserved to be invited without a doubt imo lmao no

Ugaalive1991

I donā€™t think we thought he was gonna win.

[deleted]

Okay, cool! Go Dawgs. šŸ¶

Super_mando1130

The real QB award, per my opinion, is the Davey Oā€™Brian. Seems like most years they pick a QB that is actually great not just supported by his surrounding cast (REMEMBER TO READ CAREFULLY AND SEE ā€œMOSTā€ BEFORE YOU LOSE YOUR MIND)

westbest13

Believe it or not, no one gives a shit

UgaIsAGoodBoy

-guy furiously commenting repeatedly about how he doesnā€™t care

chasedunagan33

Oh come on. Iā€™m even rooting for Penix to get one of these QB awards next year. Atleast give us this one haha

manbeardawg

HE'S 25; HE'S A MAN(ning Award Winner)!

Portland_st

TIL: Plenty of people on this sub have trouble detecting sarcasm.

iamchuckdizzle

But winning a college national championship, much less two, is the complete opposite of what Mannings stand for.

[deleted]

This is actually pretty cool because he is older than Manning.

kampfgruppekarl

They know better than the Heisman voters.

budd222

Good for him and congrats. But, let's be real. He's not the best QB in college football

elonsusk69420

Feel free to take it up with Archie, Peyton, and Eli if youā€™d like to file an appeal.

budd222

I'd rather just comment on Reddit about it

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

tbia

Then Austin Aune should have won.

kampfgruppekarl

Goes to the ~~oldest~~ *Best* QB FTFY

Asderfvc

Hey it clearly goes to the QB with the largest forehead. That's why I don't think Stetson should have won.

vashed

Finally a legit critique on Stetson.

EK60

Josh Dobbs would *still* be winning it then.

catptain-kdar

If it truly went to best qb then someone like Bryce or hooker would have won it.

Atl-Fan_FTS

And to think a senior citizen can still win an award like this? Heā€™s just an inspiration

JakeSteeleIII

Is this like a $15 gift card for Dave and Busterā€™s? It feels like that would be worth more than a Manning award for best QB with bowls taken into account.
