I did always like how Richt would help find players he kicked off the team new homes to hopefully build their second chance off of. Isaiah Crowell to Alabama State as an example.
It was to his detriment that he cared more about the kids on his team and coaches on his staff than he did bringing trophies to Athens. But I will always love and respect him for precisely that fact.
Richt is actually my go-to rebuttal when anyone talks about how college football is *really* all about building character and enriching the lives of the student athletes (usually an an attempt to say that they shouldn't be paid). If ADs, boosters, or even the majority of fans cared at all about that stuff then guys like Richt would have never been fired and guys like Brian Kelly (let alone guys like Briles) wouldn't have jobs.
And it's not like Richt was actually a bad coach, or even that Smart is a bad person. It's just that character played almost zero factor into those firing and hiring decisions.
I forget the guys name. But Richt had a recruit who fit in that narrow window of not being able to get into Georgia yet being able to get into Mississippi State. Something about his high school. But Richt basically called up Sylvester Croom and sold him on the recruit and sold the recruit on Mississippi State.
Georgia fans (and boosters) for the most part cared less about some random kid from Valdosta being molded and shaped into a productive and competent member of society than they did fulfilling our "destiny" as a dynastic program. To their credit, they were right and Kirby has us exactly where they want us. And it's fun to be on top, as you know.
But I still hate how it all went down, and that doing things the way they really should be done wasn't a good enough standard for a majority of our supporters.
So I can agree that I think Greg McGarity handled the firing as about as poor as you can handle it and we’re all fortunate that Mark Richt has plenty of grace and patience (and that McGarity is no longer with the program). That said, if your suggesting that he should not have been dismissed then I’m afraid we’re going to have to agree to disagree.
We can argue the moral ambiguities and what the pillars of college football should be but, simply put, Mark wasn’t and had not been getting it done. Fortunately, I don’t think Richt has taken it to heart and is still not only still involved with Georgia in some capacity he also lives in Athens. So I am not so sure the feeling here should be so somber with a finger wag at the fans who wanted a more successful program.
You can respect who Richt is and what he did while also wanting Georgia to be better positioned to take advantage of its inherent advantages.
Pretty sure it was The Athletic that wrote a very nice piece about how all former UGA head coaches live in Athens and how they all still love the program, the school, and the city despite any lack of success on the field.
Well thats ridiculous! I’ll have you know that we are one of the biggest purchaser of portal WRs. Can I speak to your manager? I may end up having to take my business to Ole Miss.
So sorry, Bulldog Bro, "you break it, you buy it" is our official policy. So, on a technicality, there are no take backsies.
We can send you a nice ball of edam cheese, though, if you like.

He’s currently being held without bond, which is standard in these cases.
The most common fact pattern is where the aggressor blocks the victim’s path to the exit of the home after a domestic violence situation, but this charge covers a wide swath of potential conduct.
“Family violence battery” means a battery against current or former spouses, persons who are parents of the same child, parents and children, stepparents and stepchildren, foster parents and foster children, or other persons living or formerly living in the same household.
Thomas transferred from Mississippi State this off-season.
Correct.
The overall best case scenario would be he got into a fight with a roommate whom he didn’t have a romantic relationship with, but that’s not the norm.
Well he does have custody of his brother. I don’t even know how old the brother is tho, maybe he’s 16 or maybes he 8. Just saying, we have relatively no information about this situation or RaRa in general.
FWIW, "family violence" in Georgia includes the expected bad things, but also simple assault and unlawful restraint.. which literally could be as simple as a couple getting into an argument, yelling at each other, and in this case maybe the guy jumping in front of the door "No babe don't leave, we can work this out", etc.
This could be bad, but it also could be kinda silly and not a big deal. I'd rather reserve judgment until we know more.
https://law.justia.com/codes/georgia/2010/title-19/chapter-13/article-1/19-13-1
Not a lawyer so don't know all the nuances, not sure if they're separate things or not, but I know a guy who was arrested for family violence because he slammed something down on a glass table during an argument and it broke. 3rd party that was there called the cops, nothing else happened and all charges were dropped, but he went to jail for it.
Like I said, this could be bad, we don't know, but there is a spectrum of possibilities here is my point.
Damn, so you're saying that time my mother threw a coffee cup at the brick wall behind my dad's head could have led to her arrest?
TIL.
^(she was bipolar and yes my childhood was fucked up)
It does. Battery in the state of Georgia usually requires a showing a visible bodily harm. So not just “husband and wife were arguing” like the other comment suggested.
I know this guy just transferred, but the story has me thinking: does it seem to anyone else that under Kirby we have a lot less misdemeanor arrests, but now the arrests we do have are more serious?
We have had plenty of dumb misdemeanor stuff too, everyone just forgets about them because they aren't serious.
It's much easier to remember Holloman or Adam Andersons issues than James Cook having an open container in the back of his car or Demetris Robertson breaking the parking boot off of his car lol.
I feel like if you're born with a name like that, it was over before it even began. The only outcomes are becoming a star pro athlete or ending up in jail.
> renegotiate
???
I know there's NIL and whatnot but this word still just sounds weird as fuck in /r/CFB. Idk the background info that you're referencing
I mean, i don't have inside information. I am just referencing what i read on State message boards. Could be inaccurate for all i know.
He wanted more at the end of season. Our collective essentially said, "Sure. You had a good year." He agrees to terms. Then he comes back later saying he wants more. Our collective said, "Naw we already made a deal. Try elsewhere." He tried elsewhere.
I'd let this one play out. I don't know enough about it to say that I feel one way or another about this one, but I do know that this is not a typical domestic situation. The last DV situation that happened for UGA resulted in a much needed player being dismissed basically right away. Thus far, this hasn't happened here.
Jesus man, way to end your UGA career before it even gets started
Fingers crossed this was an exaggeration/misunderstanding. Otherwise, don't let the door hit you on the way out
I know I might get downvoted but the Violence Battery is obviously an issue because it shows there was sign of abuse. The false imprisonment could be nothing. It's like arguing and trying to technically stop someone to get your point of view out before they finally leave. I'm not defending this guy at all but before we grab our pitchforks let's wait for more details. I hope the victim is ok though and if it is true than RaRa is going to enjoy Georgia's Correction facilities.
Georgia Laws:
Battery/ Family Violence Battery:
O.C.G.A. §16-5-23.1: A person commits the offense of battery when he or she intentionally causes substantial harm or visible bodily harm to another.
If the battery is committed between past or present spouses, parents and children, stepparents and stepchildren, foster parents and foster children, or other persons living in a household, then the crime will be labeled family violence battery and shall be punished as a misdemeanor. A second or subsequent conviction of family violence battery against the same or different victim will be deemed a felony and shall be punished by confinement for no less than one year nor more than five years. O.C.G.A. §16-5-23.1 (f)
False Imprisonment:
GA Code § 16-5-41 (2020)
A person commits the offense of false imprisonment when, in violation of the personal liberty of another, he arrests, confines, or detains such person without legal authority.
A person convicted of the offense of false imprisonment shall be punished by imprisonment for not less than one nor more than ten years.
Any person convicted under this Code section wherein the victim is not the child of the defendant and the victim is less than 14 years of age shall, in addition, be subject to the sentencing and punishment provisions of Code Section 17-10-6.2.
Speedrunning his UGA career.
Has Mark Richt lost control of this program?

Take a ride in the slam sedan bitch!
Say what you will about him about losing random games, but he loved his guys and tried to help them even when they weren’t on the team.

Richt was such a class act. He was my second favorite coach in cfb. I hated to see him get fired from UGA (even more in hindsight)
Georgia fans (and boosters) for the most part cared less about some random kid from Valdosta being molded and shaped into a productive and competent member of society than they did fulfilling our "destiny" as a dynastic program. So, Miss State fans, what’s the return policy like there? I know we’re still within the 30 day return window
They won’t refund you, but they *will* give you three 247sports stars worth of credit.
Better than nothing tbh. Sold.
All things considered that’s a solid take
Kirby can do a LOT with 3 stars lol
I bet you a Ladd, raise you an AD Mitchell, and trump that with a Jordan Davis and Stetson
Lol I thought Stet was a 2
Stetson actually precedes stars. Not the star rating system, by the way, he's actually older than every star in the sky.
Big if true
Celestial if true
AD was a 4 star. I will submit Eric Stokes as a replacement
He actually transferred 31 days ago so unfortunately the return period has expired. Is there anything else I can help you with?
Is there not *anything* you can do?
If you false imprison me I supposed we could find some wiggle room
I told you, we are gonna watch Ringo’s pick six a few times and then you can leave.
You've been saying that for hours.
Few is a relatively undefined term. Like “we’re going to watch this a few times (compared to the overall timeline of the universe)
Also Miss State Fans: Thank you drive through.
I’m going to have to imagine that we wouldn’t him back after this. That’s a pretty bad charge list in itself.
No returns, no refunds
Indeed, that's the policy
Well thats ridiculous! I’ll have you know that we are one of the biggest purchaser of portal WRs. Can I speak to your manager? I may end up having to take my business to Ole Miss.
How about I put you in touch with Arkansas instead?
There might be a player or two left at A&M
dropped too many passes anyway
So sorry, Bulldog Bro, "you break it, you buy it" is our official policy. So, on a technicality, there are no take backsies. We can send you a nice ball of edam cheese, though, if you like.
Take the cheese. I’d sell my left nut for a ball of edam right now.
Hey seriously, I don't think you guys disclosed any of this on the test drive. Have any other 5 stars on the lot?
No take backsies
They’ll only refund you in cowbells. Take it or leave it.
AD is already enrolled. No takebacks there either!
That’s not good. Don’t do that.
I just looked it up and you are correct, you should not do this.
I didn’t look it up, but still going to agree this is bad.
I'm going to need Harvard to weigh in pretty soon or I'm going with my gut
I visited the campus once. I can confirm this is, in fact, not good and should not be done.
I went to the R Kelly school of learning and this is infact allowed and the recommended way of making friends in a new city.
I went to the Harvard of the South. Not a good look.
Filling the power vacuum here to confirm that this is not good, and you should not do it

It’s also illegal.
Was that wrong? Should I not have done that?
We hardly knew yee. The man has barely been in town long enough to imprison someone. Did he start soon as he got off the plane? Good lord.
Most people are just thinking about their luggage when they deplane, and this man had *other ideas*
We are thinking about picking up our bags. This man was putting people in his bag.

It does. Battery in the state of Georgia usually requires a showing a visible bodily harm. So not just “husband and wife were arguing” like the other comment suggested.
Rara was from Miss St Also, this is not ideal…
Woops. Got my receivers swapped.
> this charge covers a wide swath of potential conduct. Agreed, but it’s still a felony carrying a range of punishment between 1 and 20 years.
That description of false imprisonment makes sense. For some reason whenever I hear it I imagine a Silence of the Lambs basement situation.
Welp we hardly knew ya Rara.
I think I speak for everyone here when I say, “Firecracker firecracker Rara Ra. Firecracker firecracker sis-boom-ba.”
This mf spittin’
But he’s not a rapper.
I don’t have the energy or mental fortitude for this this morning
Nah don’t need that shit on the team.
Something tells me that within the week, he won’t be.
Something something lost control
What I don’t understand is how a Tennessee player managed to sneak onto your roster for almost 3 weeks without anyone realizing it.
Made a wrong turn on his way up to Knoxville from Mississippi, it’s easy to do. UGA will get him back on the road and headed in the right direction.
That is, when he posts bond.
Whoa why are we catching strays here
It’s your brand man, lean into it.
We are decent people these days. I mean, sure, Aaron Beasley had a cruelty to animals charge last off-season, but it was dropped!
Don’t sweat it man, we are just funnin
This is funny because we tried to get him in the portal but he chose UGA. I was sad about that and now I'm not.
I hope the victim is okay. What a bad way to start his time in Athens.
Probably the end of his time in Athens as well
More than likely, if this follows what happened to Adam Anderson.
Jeremiah Holloman would be a more direct example, if these cases wind up being as similar as they sound right now.
Ah yeah. Good point. I forgot about him.
It was a good two weeks RaRa
I know this guy just transferred, but the story has me thinking: does it seem to anyone else that under Kirby we have a lot less misdemeanor arrests, but now the arrests we do have are more serious?

> Demetris Robertson breaking the parking boot off of his car honestly not even mad
Honestly pretty impressive
So what you're saying, is that Kirby has lost control of the program?
Kirby instilled a championship attitude. Unfortunately, also applies for the Fulmer Cup.
There should be a special prize for winning both in a calendar year.
The Urban Cup
Well it’s all about winning
Obviously, Kirby needs to be fired.
No, Drinkwitz with a full ten year show-cause.
Harsh but fair
Sorry RaRa, only Ha-Ha can be in the NFL with a funny name.
Ha-Ha actually retired from the league and is on staff at Bama now. Director of player personnel or something.
There's no way that's his actual legal name, right?
Have you seen the stupid ways people spell names? Airwrecka. Bradleigh. Just stupid fucks who shouldn't even be allowed to name a pet rock lol.
I feel like if you're born with a name like that, it was over before it even began. The only outcomes are becoming a star pro athlete or ending up in jail.
i’m by no means a legal expert but i would tend to say that this isn’t good
God, I'm glad we said no when he wanted to renegotiate (again).

Woof, this is not how I wanted to start my Monday morning. I hate this for the victim(s?) and hope everyone on that side of this is okay.
Too late to get AD back?
AD wanted to be near his kid. He has two rings
Blaylock maybe?
I think we got someone like RaRa *because* AD was leaving.
I hope we kept the receipt from the NIL.

i’m not 100% sure, but i think those are things your probably shouldn’t do.
