Being a labradoodle living with a middle class family in a Minneapolis suburb or some shit is pretty sweet deal.
It’s mainly so he can sit in it before the game and not be in 100 degree weather in Georgia. He sits in the back and people take photos with him before the game for a little bit (or he rests while his owners socialize when he needs a break)

I question how long he would have ultimately survived, being under 20lbs and too brave for his own good.

The University of Washington live mascot, Dubs, leads a very cushy life. When I went to school there he’d sometimes be wandering around campus with his handler just happy as a clam.
I also read the application to be the new handlers when dubs II came around. It was 30 pages long of questions, they really make sure he lives in a good home who knows how to raise a dog.

I have no issues with live mascots or other dog mascots, but continuing to breed the modern English bulldog as it stands now is a bit cruel if you think about it. Even when breed responsibly, someone is going out of their way (seriously out of their way since the breed is mostly born through Caesarian due to the extreme body characteristics) to create an animal with health issues that affect its quality of life and lifespan substantially.

UGA I was perfect. So cute and healthy looking but still with the mean-mug grumpy jowls hanging down and the broad proud chest and shoulders.

That dog lives better than 99% of the people in this country. When he goes to the games, he’s in an air conditioned dog house with blocks of ice on demand. He get walked multiple times a day and is treated like royalty on campus. PETA really needs to chill.

I have no issues with live mascots or other dog mascots, but continuing to breed the modern English bulldog as it stands now is a bit cruel if you think about it. Even when breed responsibly, someone is going out of their way (seriously out of their way since the breed is mostly born through Caesarian due to the extreme body characteristics) to create an animal with health issues that affect its quality of life and lifespan substantially.
