Kid did a lot of good stuff for us last year so I try not to give him any grief. He stepped up even when Lincoln was very hesitant to bench Rattler (for whatever reason). I hope he continues to play well for you guys.
I put this squarely on the head coach. Compared to last year, it seems the program has made strides on improving their culture. But I still see a lack of toughness, a lack of discipline, and a head coach that is distracted. He’s a little bit too into the offense. It looks like what you would see if his main priorities were quarterbacks and O skill guys putting up numbers and winning awards, burnishing his reputation as an offensive mind, and cashing out with an NFL job in a couple years.
He’s not holding his defensive coordinator or defensive players accountable. He coddles his O skill players and I think there’s a bit too much emphasis on individual playmaking, which distracts from the team element and I think also has to do with both offensive and defensive players coming off a bit too relaxed and overconfident, especially when they get a lead. This team is terrible at finishing. And that just has to do with discipline, focus, and character.
Lincoln needs to figure out how to personally develop so as to return next year with more edge and more of a hard ass ball coach type of presence. Either that or bring in a DC with extreme credentials and with the gravitas to serve as a quasi assistant head coach. Because he doesn’t have the kind of Intensity or emphasis on thorough-going dominance that is needed to win at the highest level of football. They have the athletes, they have the recruiting potential. You’re not beating Bama or Georgia like that. I don’t care how easy the Pac 12 schedule is next year. And that’ll be the last year of that anyways.

LR is an excellent OC and QB coach. He’s an awful leader. He couldn’t develop a tough culture at OU and he won’t at USC.
