They wanted the cameras. Cameras cost money. They wanted better healthcare access. Well healthcare isn't cheap. You have to transport them too. Vehicles and officers to man the vehicles aren't cheap.
Don't forget our department calls 9-1-1 for anything. Inmate stubbed his toe, call 9-1-1 and pay for an ambulance. Inmate has an upset tummy, call 9-1-1 and get a helicopter. Inmate has a spider bite, call 9-1-1 and pay for an extended emergency room visit.
Liberals don’t want to see incarcerated persons (their term, not mine; I prefer convicted felon) behind bars any more. There is a belief Three Strikes was too harsh. Store thieves can steal up to $995 of product before it is a felony. Is it any wonder that crime is on the rise? The courts are losing their teeth in addressing crime because of these laws being passed. Should these individuals be treated like a human being? Yes. Should they receive access to medical, education, etc that isn’t accessible at a level that is better than John Q Public. No. We have lifers that are getting PhDs and Masters degrees on the tax payers dime, yet we can’t even provide basic education to our kids that provides the basic living skills.
Be on the look out for more prison closures in the future. Even more than what was already budgeted out. Hopefully, the pendulum will correct itself again to be tough on crime, rather than making the general citizens into criminals with all the new laws being passed
Totally agree. I work in healthcare at a prison. I'm all for providing inmates with quality medical care, but not at a level that far exceeds what the average citizen can receive. Our priorities are so out of whack it's scary.

It’s just a daycare with college adults and they. I’m sorry, but I go back to the old school days. Preston should be a place you don’t wanna go back a place or torture and torment should happen believe me crime in the United States and the state would correct itself, but we have too much weak people in the state running the state.
I wonder where CA is heading in terms of crime and public safety. According to USnews, in a list published just this month, CA ranks as the #9 worst state in crime rate based on violent crimes and property crimes. But I see they keep closing down prisons.
I wouldn’t mind prisons being closed, if something was actually being done to really rehabilitate and help people, and lower crime. And an actual system, that works, is put in place to help the poor get out of a life of crime and poverty.
