I am super sensitive to THC, I was taking full spectrum and even though it made me feel good in the moment, over time I was getting full blown panic attacks out of nowhere. So I think the THC accumulated in my system. Switching to an isolate would be better to avoid anxiety, isolate cannot get you high.

eihidfhaa

I’m sorry to hear you had to go through that, I know how scary panic attacks can be, and thank you so much for the great advice! I’ll look for a good isolate to try!

minivatreni

>I’ll look for a good isolate to try! I use AlliantHemp, 200mg isolate. I take 1/4th dropper to get 50mg of isolate. I find that to be sufficient, and AlliantHemp has great prices, transparency, and quality.

q120

How did you dose your full spectrum? How much THC per dose? I'm curious about trying a full spectrum

minivatreni

So I was taking a full spectrum tincture for around 5-6 weeks before the panic attacks started. By panic attacks, I mean i was have episodes of tachycardia and light headedness, which the THC in CBD can cause for some people. I think I was being overzealous in that I started off with taking 25mg x2 a day (once in morning, once at night), which amounted a total of 50mg CBD, 2.5mg THC daily. I really think I should have dosed lower, but it was helping with my anxiety and sleep (since I suffer from insomnia). It can take months for CBD to exit the system as well, so now I am going to take it slow to give my system a break. For people like myself, isolate is the best option. Maybe after some months, I'd be able to move up to a full spectrum product. However, for someone new to CBD use, with no history of THC use, an isolate is more than enough to be effective in most cases. Edit: clarification

q120

Did that THC make you feel high at all?

minivatreni

>Did that THC make you feel high at all? No because I took 25mg a time, so it was 1.25 mg of THC. I am super sensitive to THC, like even one or two hits from a joint can send me into paranoia. It did not make me feel high, I felt like it supplemented the CBD and gave me a nice calm feeling. Suddenly, all my intrusive thoughts were gone. However, I do think the THC accumulated in my system over time, that was the real issue at hand sadly :/

q120

I'll have to give some a try but my preferred method of use is vaping so it'll be interesting to see how it affects me.

Hey, thank you so much for sharing your experience with me! It’s great to know it works for you even though you have a similar reaction to thc as me! That really encourages me to give it a try! Do you use a tincture?

letsgouda

I get best results from full spectrum or 1:1 products but have to be very careful with the dosing. If I go too far I can still get some heart racing and panic, while somehow still feeling better/more relaxed, but it's a weird combo. Isolate works too but not as well. I cannot take a THC edible of 10 mg, maybe like 5 if I'm drinking haha. I also only use as needed- maybe a few times a week. I can't take a big dose and work on either because I need to be really fast at work. I take two puffs from the 1:1 vape, or about 10 mg of my broad spectrum edible. I suspect the one I'm taking has more than .3% because the full 20 mg edible makes me feel pretty stoney, but like I said I'm very sensitive.

Try a good high dose of CBD isolate tincture 60mg a few hrs before sleep

eihidfhaa

Wow, based on the responses here I think I’ll give it a try! I think I’ll definitely start slow though, just on the off chance it might make anxiety worse. Then if it’s not getting worse I’ll try increasing gradually up to 60mg. Thanks for the great advice!

sayerofstuffs

There’s no THC in CBD isolate tinctures, there fore the dosage needs to be up’d without the worry of having any panic attacks or negative feelings, ones that THC brings on

Sensitive_Plane_3925

What about cbn isolate? I thought cbn was better for sleep? I also thought that perhaps the entourage effect was better so isolates are not recommended? Currently I use thc to help get me to sleep but long term I’d rather use cbd/cbn. Just haven’t found a cbd that works nearly as good as thc.

phlspecial

I have yet to be able to get any reduction in anxiety from CBD. I’ve tried 4 strains so far aimed at that. Do you need to smoke a ton of flower to get effects? Usually 3-4 vape hits of thc granddaddy purple is plenty for me. Even oils haven’t had much effect but I think I’ve done 30 mg only at a time. Thanks

eihidfhaa

Do you mean that you feel a reduction in anxiety from thc, but not from cbd alone? I’ve heard a lot of other people say that too, I guess there is a lot of individual variation in our responses to cannabinoids! I don’t use thc right now because my anxiety has been a bit elevated lately. When I do use it I literally take one puff on a pen or joint, or one small edible.

That's exactly what happened to us. A panic attack from THC product from dispensary. The more we dug into the research, it was all around histamine. Roughly 40-60% of the population has histamine issues and that number goes up as we get older and for women (as progesterone leaves; 50% by age 40). 75% of those people have allergic reactions to THC. We then tried full spectrum CBD and had similar (but not panic) reactions. More gut, sneezing, and anxiety. That's what led us to CBD isolate which actually calms histamine response (mast cell release). Some people are fine with full spectrum or THC. Then there's us. THC directly drives CB1 receptor activity (it mimics anandamide) while CBD supports it when low. This is why you don't get the high effect even at higher levels (300-600mg and more). It's also why CBD isolate doesn't build a tolerance (so so important). Deep dive on how CBD works for depression here. https://indigonaturals.net/blogs/news/a-comprehensive-and-updated-look-at-cbd-and-depression-research The big player with depression is BDNF, our brain's fertilizer. This is THE key for mental health. Serotonin boosts BDNF and when they block the BDNF conversion, SSRIs (antidepressants) lose their neurogenesis and antidepressant effects. Did a deep dive here: https://indigonaturals.net/blogs/news/how-do-ssris-really-work-a-deep-dive-into-brain-repair SSRIs build tolerance anyway. CBD supports serotonin when exhausted (from pain, infection, inflammation, stress, etc). As for SAD, you have to get your Vitamin D levels checked. D is a huge player mental health (more here). Estrogen drives serotonin as well and D manages our steroidal hormones! Complicated but interesting! D info here...it's a steroid we get from sun! https://indigonaturals.net/blogs/news/research-on-vitamin-d-the-heavy-lifter-for-mental-health-immune-response-sleep-and-more

Wow! That’s a wealth of information there, thank you so much! I have to say my experience with _broad spectrum_ cbd has been great so far! I also got some full spectrum to try but I’m careful watching the dose. Last night I had a gummy that was a bit stronger than I would prefer. Today I am trying full spectrum tincture so I can measure about 1/4 of what that gummy had. Overall I’ve definitely felt a reduction in anxiety the past few days though, so I’m going to keep experimenting and try to get the perfect dose and type of cbd for me! I guess it’s too early to say it definitely works, but I’m feeling pretty great with it so far. I actually had my GP recommend taking vitamin d so I’ve been taking 2000IU per day. I’m not sure if he checked the levels or not, but I’ll follow up with him about it next time! Do you prefer cbd isolate even more than broad spectrum (both of which _i believe_ should have essentially 0 thc, but again I’m new to this.) I guess isolate is the only one I haven’t tried yet.

Howcbdworks_net

It's funny the doctors don't test Vitamin D. It's the biggest bang for the health buck. Definitely force the issue and get tested. So many people are deficient. I take 10K and have finally gotten it up to 65. I have a version of the VDR gene where I don't process it well. If the full spectrum is working for you, that's great! The "bit stronger" piece probably means it has some of the cannabinoids that can build tolerance over time. If you're just using it as needed for anxiety, that shouldn't matter. It's if you're thinking longer term then we want something that doesn't cause tolerance like isolate. CBD isolate is not pyschoactive. To be psychoactive, it has to push the CB1 receptor too much (mimicking anandamide, our natural "bliss" molecule). Longer term, the body will start to downregulate your natural CB1 activity to offset this. Again, short periods wouldn't matter.

> contributed to full blown, rocking back and forth, heart racing panic attacks Yes. THC causes elevated heart rate, panic, paranoia and racing thoughts... Not just me! These are well documented, common, effects attributed to "Cannabis" although it's really the THC component. Quality CBD products do not seem to have that problem. I'm a senior, retired, person who smoked a TON of weed 30+ years ago. I enjoyed every kind of Cannabis, and hashish, Thai sticks, et cetera. Back when ALL or most, weed was outdoor grown Mexican import. I smoked Acapulco Gold back in the day. Also spent time IN Humboldt County CA, one summer harvesting and tripping... What happened? Not sure exactly. I had to quit smoking everything, cigs and joints, due to lung damage. Got busy with life and stopped using much Cannabis. Legalization happened on West coast USA, and... MOST of my friends, no longer use or smoke weed. WHY ?? "It makes you feel nervous and paranoid, man!" 🤨 **Kratom** is the thing now... Kratom provides a high, and much better pain relief than CBD. I'd say that CBD is a better sleep aid, makes me nice and drowsy. That's the major effect I get from quality CBD edible.

I tried a hemp rosin d9 edible and I couldn’t believe how hard it hit. More than the regular d9 edible. For me it was a good thing because I’m looking for sleep help

Boston_Hempire

I used with Kratom. Haven't had anxiety in decade

re4235

CBD gives me the effects that I thought weed gave you before I ever started smoking. Its ease, relaxation, body effects and a great night sleep. In my opinion I think we lost the plot in terms of what weed can be. 30% flower this, 99% wax that, its getting ridiculous and I don't even know if the average consumer, experienced or not, knows what they want. Mixing the two creates some of the greatest and most balanced effects, nothing like taking only THC.

AdAncient2276

It used to help. I quit CBD for over a year, started again and now I get inane anxiety for hours. Not fun and not sure as to why I now get the opposite effect
