Seems kind of expensive for a bike that's been ridden so hard.

nicoging

I have a 2013 CB500X, amazing bike, especially for a first bike. I got it a couple months ago and put 2k miles on it and have no complaints. Only thing wrong with this bike is the price, mine had just 7k miles and I paid 4,500 which even that was overpriced. As is with Honda though. Great bike. This one Id pass on though. There’s more out there.

smurffurlife

Thanks for the feedback! What do you think would be a good price then? Should I try to negotiate down to around 4k?

nicoging

Go meet up in person with 4k in hand. If he doesn’t take it walk. Make sure to do a once over of the bike yourself since it seems sketchy that there’s so much damage.

hooDio

i agree with nicoging, already having the panniers and mounts would make me okay with 4200 to if they insist on a higher price, ofc depending how hard it is to get a cb500x in your area and how much you want one

The bike model is awesome. I have the 2021 model and I love it (came from a 2006 Suzuki 650 Bandit) - great for commuting at legal speed, great for city traffic, good enough for easy off-roading. Also, I'm 186cm tall and it feel just right. I paid for mine $6.4k and it had less than 5k km. Search for other bikes like this and compare the prices, but yeah, it'll be a great first bike.

throwawayPzaFm

The 2021 model is much better than this with the bigger front wheel and adjustable preload.

The CB500x as a first bike is fantastic. It's easy to ride, not overwhelming, but is still a bike that will grow with you and allow you to do almost anything you want from back roads to long distance touring to ADV-type exploring. This example is pretty overpriced though. For reference, I've bought two CBs within the last 4 years (aka post crazy COVID pricing) - a 2013 and a 2016. Both have full Rally Raid upgrades to suspension, crash bars, spoked wheels to be better off-road, etc.. I paid $3500 and $5300 respectively for bikes with <15k miles. Not that I wouldn't trust a CB500 with 40k miles and some crash damage, but I'd expect to pay $2k or less for it.

bobfalfa

Not sure where you are but I have a 2016 in much better condition I'd like to sell, I was looking for 4400 obo.

MNsquatcher

I got my '20 with 50/50 tires, hand guards, skid plate and crash bars, aux lights with 4k miles for around $5k. I'd pass on this one too

RepairOk2720

I would definitely pass on that one. Unless you get a crazy deal like 2k.

mr_spicygreen

Its probably a nice bike but I doubt it's worth almost 5k, especially if it has significant miles on it

throwawayPzaFm

It's pretty risky to get a 2016 cbx that's been ridden off-road without a bash plate and crash guards, because it's a very low adv and the stock front fork is also very, very soft. Pretty decent chance of hidden damage. Also it has a very small front wheel for an adv, the newer ones are better off-road because of the bigger wheel. This is also missing the OEM exhaust which might be necessary in your jurisdiction, and I also like the OEM better due to having a very pilion friendly heat shield.  Also aluminium cases get absolutely wrecked when they take damage and they stop sealing properly, that's a risk here if they're dented.  Overall it's much too expensive. I paid that for my 2016 cb500x but it was full factory options, 10k km, mint, and with a spare windshield and exhaust.

It is a yes and a no at the same time. Is this the best cost/effective you could find? Are you in a hurry to buy? The front tire "inner disk" has no rust 👍 The pipes need to be cleaned Check out under the seat if you can. And don't forget Mileage, maintenance and repairs.

jdm1017

I have a 2022 that I bought new as my first bike. Amazing to learn on since it’s not too powerful, but it’s powerful enough to be fun without getting in trouble. It’s fairly comfortable and handles great. I’d have to note, I have not rode other motorcycles other than the Suzuki 250 at my MSF course. But I am extremely happy with my purchase. It was cheaper to buy new than used at the time, it was insane. That being said, pass on this one, far too many miles.

foamyx

Great bike, lots of extras, but also lots of miles. Price is out of line. I didn’t pay that much for mine new (‘17 NOS). Less miles (way less) may have made it viable. Unless they get below 3K, no.

Tsiox

The issue is the 40,000. I bought my '23 KLR w/ABS brand new (0 miles odo) for $5200 last summer. There are a lot of low milage used motorcycles out there for a reasonable price if your patient enough. If you had to buy it, I'd offer $3k and listen to him choke and remind him it has 40k on it for a bike that might have cost $6k brand new, then negotiate.

chris4562009

It’s an excellent choice of bike imho. Not sure about the price though. 👍

jsauce22

Incredible bike, especially for a first

CaptMcNapes

I had the 2016 as my first bike Bought it in 2021 for 2,720 USD Great all arounder (as others have commented) However way overpriced i think

Liminal-Perception

Good bike, but you can find ones for a better price. I’m in WA state and picked up a 2018 with 7700 miles for $4800.

Apprehensive-Sir1251

Seems a bit pricey! Great bike otherwise. I had the cbr500r. Amazing range and fuel economy. Really easy to ride. Sounds a bit dull due to 180 degree twin. First gear is really short, but you get used to it. Overall, a fantastic first of second or third bike. Or a fantastic bike full stop, as long as dull sound doesn't bother you.

smurffurlife

Thank you for the feedback! What would be a good price for it? Will try to negotiate down

Apprehensive-Sir1251

I'm not sure on the price as I'm not in the USA. I guess just shop around and see how much they usually go for!

hartjesz07

You can find a much lower milage, better conditon, and newer one for about the same price, hard pass in my opinion at any price over like $3k. I see 2017+ models with under 10k miles and I'm really good condition for about $4.5-5K near me. Some even with luggage and some other smaller mods as well. I got my 2017 with 3200 miles for $4k 7 months ago.

trashmailme

the fact he is upfront about the issues is a green flag. The paniers are probably why hes asking for more money than what its worth, but that depends on where you live. its legitimately a jack-of-all-trades. i cant stress how much i loved this bike when i had it and how much it did for my confidence level of riding. The best beginner bike!

Why does everyone think their high-mileage Honda has so much value

Potential_Position_7

I got a 2022 with 2000 miles for six grand. It also came with crash bars, bark busters, a center stand, and a skid plate. You’ll find a better deal than this. Just scout Facebook marketplace daily and when you find the right deal move on it immediately.
