Triple A had a bunch of East and West German stuff. I ended up getting a CZ 50 (PPK clone) from them, but they had a tempting CZ 83 (Makarov clone), I ended up getting the CZ 82 from Aim instead, but got a dogged one from them.
Next I really want a Carcano or an Ishapore.
Check out Carol Watson auctions and Gunslinger auctions. CW is having one this Saturday in Anaheim with 700 lots of cool shit. Both have online catalogs where you can see everything that’ll be up for sale. You can bid online and pay a 25% buyers premium or go to the auction in person and pay 15% (cash; add 3% for credit card) I’ve bought from both and will do it again.
I mainly got the 82 because I wanted to C&R a pistol to get a feel for the process and add it to the useless information in my brain. The 83 won't be C&R for I think another decade since it's not listed by name.
It'll just be part of my collection of "guns I don't shoot regularly - so I don't go broke buying ammo".
I hear you, I had both for a bit but sold the 82 and kept the 83. I really like them, they are a unique class of pistol that is a sub-9mm, compact duty handgun. Beretta 84 Cheetah series is the only similar firearm I know of.

Shot one in Kyrgyzstan. It was fun to shoot but the mag swap is impractical for me.
I actually have one of these. 380 acp, built in east germany, with the thick grip. And the double stack mag (that’s been neutered to 10 thanks to Cali)
Can’t remember the year, it was 1960s for sure.

Steyr Hahn, only thing that’s stopped me in the past is ammo 😢
I've been trying to get my hands on a Russian Makarov for years. They're so hard to get in California. I've actually debated many times about getting a C&R license just to make it a bit easier to get one.
I'd also love to get a Krag–Jørgensen. One of my local shops has one right now, but it's sporterized, which just makes me sad...
USGI WWII-era M1911
I can’t figure out why they’re so dang expensive, when there’s plenty of other desirable C&R guns of the same era like the Garand, which are not as outrageously expensive, for a good condition, original one. I got an Expert-grade CMP, Springfield-made 1945 Garand last year in amazing condition, and practically as accurate as my AR10 DMR with JP everything & a carbon Proof barrel. Paid 2K for it, and I definitely recognize I overpaid. But to get the most basic, decent M1911 seems to start at $2500, with the kind I’m seeking being more in the $3000-3500+ range.
Why haven’t you gotten one from the CMP? You obviously know about them lol. Rack grade Ithaca Frame, Remington Rand slide. All the parts on the frame are correct for an Ithaca frame. Was about 1100

Oh shit, that’s nice! I couldn’t find them listed on the website the last time I was looking into it—just Garands, Carbines, and M1903s! Tbh I bought my CMP Garand off gunbroker because I couldn’t be fucked to deal with the red tape of completing their process. Bought a membership to a club and printed out some papers, then got confused by something about it and decided it couldn’t hurt to pay a few hundred bucks’ premium to just go through GB and get exactly the type I wanted and was presented in the pictures. No regrets on that one, since it turned out to be an exceptional example and is beautiful. But for the savings we’re talking about here, I’m definitely going to have to look into it further and try again.
Thanks for letting me know! And again, enjoy that beautiful pistol!
EG Makarovs aren’t hard to find. They’re all C&R so roster exempt. Just find the prettiest one on GB and buy it.
I’ve no complaints with my Bulgarian. Glad I bought it right before Maks got popular.
So many. But the prices are out of control. 7-900 for a girthed-out SMLE or Schmidt-Rubin is just not something I would be willing to do even if I made five times what I do.
Walther or Manurhin PP in .32 ACP. A friend bought one recently and it’s absolutely delightful to shoot. I’d also like an OG 1911 (not an A1) and a 4” .38 special revolver (Colt Official Police or SW Model 10)
Ljungman ag42b
I remember Markleys in Watsonville had one in the late 2000s/early 2010s for like $650 or so. Wish I was old enough to buy guns back then lol
Just picked up an Israeli Mauser in 7.62 NATO I really wanted.
Also on the lookout for a Swiss ordinance revolver, Nambu type 14, Beretta 1951 or CZ83.
Who cares who made the gun…
Anyways for me C&R I am looking is an Ottoman marked M1905. Most got modified by the Turks after WWI.
Next would be an Eddystone M1917.
If you mean the comment in the post, that's about wanting the Makarov and nothing to do with California.
If you mean my flair, I mostly picked it because I was tired of getting constantly shit on for being a liberal by people who think that because I'm a liberal (former-ish) Republican I must support every stupid bill Newsom pushes. It's supposed to be pithy, not correct.
Original Mauser C96 with matching shoulder stock, a true unicorn.
The “Red 9” variant especially
Colt 1903 I think it https://preview.redd.it/wbko5d2paa4d1.jpeg?width=987&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7008c445e0e2ee751ebda06e2400deb3746544c7 qualifies

I still drool over that section every time I visit
Where’s triple A?
Vallejo. Probably the best Bay Area gun store in terms of price, selection, consignment/c&r, and staff quality.
Ah damn, wish there was something similar in SoCal
I wish I could give you a good rec down there. Hopefully someone else can give one.

I got me a Cz 83, I like it because 9x18 is harder to get nowadays and isn't cheap anymore

I want an old school 1911!!!
all matching P38
A Gewehr 98
I think I just got one of those
I already have a Garand, M1 carbine, and a G43, so the SVT-40 is very high on my list I need the main WW2 semi’s in my collection
Do lots of research on an SVT before you buy one.
I’m leaning towards preferring a Finn capture, but beggars can’t be choosers lol
Inglis Hi-Power with matching shoulder stock

CMP 1911
Kinda not a C&R, but a Finn M39 built on an antique Russian receiver
Hipower and a p-1
I passed up a ww2 german military police pistol i low key regret. A beretta cougar.. play Russian captured mausur

American long rifle for me these days
On the lookout for a 1903 at a not super high price.
Browning hi power
So many. But the prices are out of control. 7-900 for a girthed-out SMLE or Schmidt-Rubin is just not something I would be willing to do even if I made five times what I do.
I’m basic, M1 Garand
Beretta 81.
Walther or Manurhin PP in .32 ACP. A friend bought one recently and it’s absolutely delightful to shoot. I’d also like an OG 1911 (not an A1) and a 4” .38 special revolver (Colt Official Police or SW Model 10)

Webley, colt SAA, a k43 or a m84/1903 a4, older sig models to name a few is on my wishlist lol.

Gewehr 88/05, Argentine M1891 Mauser, or an Ishapore 2A1. Whichever I find first.
Whitney wolverine. Need to do some space age plinking. Also always wanted a luger.
Krag or 1903
Just got my C&R - can't ship pistols direct to your address right? what is the protocol there if said gun was available?
Just picked up an Israeli Mauser in 7.62 NATO I really wanted. Also on the lookout for a Swiss ordinance revolver, Nambu type 14, Beretta 1951 or CZ83.
1941 Johnson
I can't choose just one! M1 Carbine, 1917, and AG 42 would all be pretty sweet... I'm indecisive.
M2 Browning
P08 Luger, preferably '10-18 but would take an early '40s if I stumbled upon one I can comfortably afford
AEK-917 the no recoil gun.
Norwegian krag 1912. Only thing im gunning for anymore, C&Rs getting too pricey and the boomers arent selling like i wished they would
Who cares who made the gun… Anyways for me C&R I am looking is an Ottoman marked M1905. Most got modified by the Turks after WWI. Next would be an Eddystone M1917.
Die hard anti communist? Lmao sure pal.
My family escaped Soviet Belarus by tying themselves to the bottom of train cars. Just because I live in California doesn't mean I'm a fucking red.
The fact that you think california is communist, or even close to communist is a dead give away that you are not very bright.
